Sure, but I trust in earth caste technology to keep that in check well enough. Tau have advanced cloning and biotech, and what they lack they can likely source from one of their many slave auxiliary races. Shadowsun can also just be engrammed and decanted into fresh bodies from time to time to maintain peak physical condition.

I like Nemeton, seems comfy. It's a planet that stays in the equivalent of the Iron Age by choice, and it's a nearly tropical ocean archipelago world that is almost entirely forests and mountains on the little land it has that usually quietly rains. It's extremely well defended for some reason and the imperium allows it to stay this way for some undisclosed reason. It's the home of an ultramarine successor chapter so they probably opted to keep it this way for recruiting.

Reminder that Eldar and Human are the same species.
>old ones need soldiers for the War in Heaven
>grab DNA from small furry creature on Terra
>hyper-evolve it into the Eldar

this is the ONLY thing that explains their close appearance to us, even more so than some abhumans. additionally their psychic abilities are nearly identical to advanced psykers of humanity.
>their DNA is also compatible with our own

No infantey the xenos factions normally field can actually go toe to toe with Custodes in lore.
That thing with the Harlequins was literally a error by the author who had mistaken Custodes' strength with normal Guardsmen. War of the Beast really wasn't a good series, especially as tine went on.
>>
>>94760502
>who had mistaken Custodes' strength with normal Guardsmen
fucking how?
>>
>>94760148
Given that Tau are constantly undergoing minor genetic conditioning every generation and are undergoing generally rapid advancement in every field this might be a feature rather than a bug.

Outside of the absolute pinnacle of talent there's a generally reasonable presumption that you'd want your population to gradually phase out 'obsolete,' people in favour of better genetics, better taught, up-to-date people over time without resorting to genocide against old people.

Anon this is the same series where the entire Imperial Fists Chapter, all of it, got killed by a normal WAAAGH!!! of Orks. The modern Imperial Fists aren't actually the Imperial Fists, they're successors who were re-assigned because the High Lords recognized how disastruous it would be for a First Founding chapter to be wiped out wholesale in one engagement.
>>
>>94760509
Shit happens. The fist chapter of Eisenhorn begins with him and his retinue raiding a burial complex guarded by custodians. People misunderstood those to be custodes and wondered how an inquisitorial retinue could kill them that easily.
>>
>>94760531
stasis complex, not burial.
>>
>>94760516
New people bring new ideas and new capacities for development. Tau do preserve certain individuals if they have attained mastery in crucial fields of expertise, however, like commander puretide.
>>
>>94760502
I've never actually seen a source for this but I've seen it repeated everywhere and while I won't blame you for believing what you've heard this has honestly always sounded like cope. Well, GW continues to fuck up Imperial Guard. Very cool. Very cool. Though, I will say it's interesting to see some sort of "platoon" back, it doesn't make up for the /only/ Death Korps™ of Krieg™, Catachan™ Jungle Fighters, and Cadian™ Shock Troops. This game is somehow mixing the bullshit from that Star Wars™ game where everything is fixed even more now. You're just told, even more, what "/your dudes/" will take. I'm sure in future editions that special weaponry will go the way of combi-weapons and get consolidated into a single profile, which will fuck it up even more. Don't even say it can't happen because who would have thought they would do it to combi-weapons?

I get it. I really do. GW wants to Streamline™ and Simplify™, but the lack of granularity is insulting to anyone with even a semi-functioning brain.

What they should have done, and from reading sort of did with 8th edition for Guard was to kind of allow you to make your own regiment? You'd choose two (lol) doctrines that would give you a +1/-1 to [whatever], right? A far cry from the old IG Doctrine system where you selected from, what, 20 or so doctrines that you actually felt really created a regiment. Grenadiers, mechanized, drop troops, etc. They should have brought something like that back. A return to more "generic" squads would do so much to actually cut down on Datasheets™ (also a problem with Space Marines, but that's for later) and leave it open for the player to choose what they want to do. I know people think platoons were a tax for troops, but you didn't have to take platoons if you did a different doctrine, like mechanized where, if I remember correctly, was Armoured Fist Squads. Or the long gone Veterans were troops (I guess we'd say Battleline now?) and could be taken instead. Or hell, you didn't even need infantry if you did an armored army.

Rant over, I think. I don't know why they keep finding ways to completely fuck up opportunities to do something interesting.

>>94760736
Utilizing simulated fights;
>Troupe w/ Shadowseer vs Custodian Guard
Harlies deal 4-5 damage, killing one Custodes. Custodians do 7 damage back if armed with Swords, 14 total if with Spears. If using Spears the full Troupe is lost, if Swords then the Shadowseer survives then does no damage on the second swing.
>Solitaire vs Custodians
Solitaire, with Blitz, does 6 damage killing one Custodes if Shields, two if Spears. Custodes then deal 3 damage back (6 if Spears) to kill the Solitaire after three failed saves.

They're not necessarily the absolute best and match really elite Aspects but yes, most of it comes from Eldar just having a much higher physical, mental and psychic ceiling than Humans though, so they actually get a big advantage from devoting themselves to something for centuries instead of plateauing after a few decades like we do.

So it looks like the new lore for the Tau is that the base Tau castes are actually naturally xenophobic and distrustful of other species (and don't particularly care for other castes either), and it's actually the Ethereals that are the ones encouraging xenophilia in the Empire and being the ones most open to having humans and other non-Tau be given high ranking positions under them.

Basically it's reversed from the usual understanding of things. The Ethereals aren't the secret grimdark side of the Tau, they're the people keeping the Tau relatively tolerant, and without them the Tau would be just another genocidal empire like the Imperium.

Anon I don't want to burst your bubble but random Eldar civilians have had roughly equal stats to Sisters of Battle since they both existed and the lore constantly portrays Eldar clowning on Humans - Marines tend to fuck them up but we're talking about Lelith who fights Hive Tyrants with the Eldar equivalent of pocket knives for sport here.
>>
>>94760962
The biggest consistency in 40k is genuinely that Eldar are a bunch of losers who are incapable of winning. Even fights where they have a massive advantage will typically end as a costly victory for them.

Wych Covens vary but I'm pretty sure Lelith at least fights things at full strength, she's completely uninterested in easy victories so hard she gimps herself harder than other Succubi just to feel something.

The T'au absolutely have storied Edification Corps for the rogue elements of society that break away due to whatever trauma but the entire point of Tau society is to create an environment where you would give fuck all about the other castes because why would you ever know anything about the particulars of their existence outside of the fleeting interaction they may have with your work group.

>Imperium
Rare, frowned on by Commissars not for mistreatment but rather for wasting time. Would occur only in very fringe cases. An Inquisitor might get a kick out of doing it though.
>Chaos
Depends on the God they're following. Khorne would frown on it for being a waste of time. Tzeentch likely wouldn't care. Nurgle and Slaanesh would likely encourage it. Random renegades or Undivided groups would do so happily.
>Orks
They might butcher a prisoner on the spot or otherwise torture them for amusement. Naturally rape isn't among their concepta of torture.
>Eldar
They never win, so they're never able to take prisoners
>Dark Eldar
Depends on the situation. Most will wait until they're back in Commoragh. If the PDF has broken and there's no help in-bound for the prisoners, they might do some right then and there.

Strict rules against mistreatment of prisoners.

>Nids

>>
>>94760148
IIRC the Tau actually have a cultural aversion to life-extension technology. They'll do it a little bit, but they don't want immortal heroes, their collectivist mindset makes them not particularly fond of singular persons that are elevated above the group.
>>
>>94761295
>Generally frowned on among most dynasties though.
Harvests are actually standard practice when a dynasty wakes up: send the troops, kill as much as possible, capture everything else, dissect and study whatever the fuck is occupying your turf, then by the time the rest of the dynasty wakes up they're up to date on what to do and who they're dealing with

So many people are angry (rightfully so) at ol' Abby that they refuse to take him as seriously as the authors already do.

Remember the golden rule, if [faction/character I like] does something retardedly OP then it's cool and makes me like them, if [faction/character I don't like] does something retardedly OP then it's bad writing and makes me hate them more.

Nothing. It's not that Abaddon isn't a serious threat (on paper), it's that the power balance of the setting requires Abbadon to perpetually be close to victory.
The problem is that this causes stories in the setting to have to write around the multiple existential threats the Imperium faces (Chaos, Nids, Necrons) in order to tell another story.
Honestly they should've done more to write Abaddon as a victim of his own success post- 13th Black Crusade; he had no plan to divide up raiding territories and corrupted worlds between the Black Legion's warbands after breaking the Cadian Gate. Since Chaos Lords are universally power-hungry opprotunists, it would make sense that Abaddon's armada of traitors would break up to take whatever is unclaimed.

The Icarus Expansion, formerly known as the 6th sphere of expansion, is one of the greatest tragedies to strike the T'au Empire and has also been suggested as the catalyst of the Earth Caste Uprising.
With the main leaders of the Ultramarines currently off crusading, the Ethereals set their sights on the Ultramar sector. Intended to be the T'au's big entrance onto the galactic stage, the preparations were focused on overwhelming firepower and the superiority of T'au technology. While the young empire has had many encounters with the Astartes, they did not quite understand the significance of the Ultramar system. Over 15 Ultramarine successor chapters brought the full brunt of their chapter's fleets, along with a significant Imperial Navy contingent. Such things were anticipated by the Ethereals, but they did not foresee the complex politics of the local sectors. The Aeldari, nominally allies of the T'au, sabotaged their fleet and inflicted great damage in return for a significant number of the Imperium's captured Soulstones. While the front was reinforced, this left the T'au's supply lines woefully unprepared for Drukhari raiders, who were free to take billions of captives from under defended worlds. Worse yet, the timing of the expansion coincided with a chaos incursion, lead by the Emperor's Children, against the forces of Ultramar, and the T'au were in the way, one of their newly conquered worlds turning into a malevolent Daemon World mere weeks after invasion. Sustaining heavy losses on all sides, despite the destruction of two Fortress Monasteries, the T'au were pushed further and further back. Such rampant fighting attracted the ever-curious Orks, their arrival a poor omen.

The very public failure of the 6th sphere, followed by the Ethereals blaming failures in battlesuits, led to the Earth Caste Uprising. Several prominent T'au scientists left for the Farsight Enclaves and the loss in agricultural productivity starved billions.

Ridiculously effective, a single array of Pylons was enough to implicitly reduce the size of the Eye of Terror a little. The ones the Necrons are building now are much less effective but are still plunging entire systems into psychic voids where people's conciousness turns to mush and it's almost impossible to use any Warpstuff. The Imperium's miracle juice ala relics and Sister powers seem to be immune to it for some reason but it's handedly thrashing anything else that relies on the Warp.

Or did until Vashtorr flipped the switch.

I want to do a new army after a long time away from Space Marines.

Was thinking a cursed founding Blood Angels successor where they tried mixing a touch of Night Lords genetic data into the Blood Angels matrix. I know the Lamentors are the famous cursed founding Blood Angels successors but ifaik it was never stated anywhere they were the only ones.

Idea would be to blend blood angels and night lords models to get a heavy Von Carsteins in SPAAAAAACE type vibe and their cursed founding attribute is they are essentially full on vampires without the angel aspect anymore. Renegade chapter, but Imperial aligned, like the old Relictors. Hopefully build the models in such a way that most of the units can run as a CSM force or a regular BA successor.

Are these archaic, hooded style jump units from a kit somewhere or are they all STLs? Either is fine, just trying to source them. Already found a bunch of STLs for the winged helmets and fang iconography and all that.
>>
>>94760389

Definitely knights. It's quite literally just a stat check army with no actual strategy required to play against them. You either have the stats to table them and win or you don't and lose. Neither experience is fun.
I made a post a few days ago about how taking a knight down to 1 wound barely does anything to the knight's effectiveness, where with any infantry squad being taken down to 1 wound renders that unit almost entirely useless. It's completely retarded how they're implemented in their current state.

Strategy for Orks is starting the game by staging a "go turn" (your Waaagh! turn, if you will) by trying your best to get board control while remaining relatively safe, and then on your "go turn" you throw all caution to the wind and run everything directly at the enemy hoping to kill as much as possible and then stay stuck in with whatever is left alive. It all depends on that "go turn". If it works out you'll get a fun game and hopefully a win, but if you biff it then you've lost.
Regardless Orks are probably one of the most fun factions in the game and I've not met a single person, online or otherwise, who dislikes playing against them.

Knights, Chaos Knights and Agents should have never been their own armies. If they were, it should have had forced infantry mixing (Agents are mainly deathwatch but get very cheap access to inquisitors, assassins and the like. Knights get squire infantry. Chaos Knights get cultists)

The way that the Grotmas detachment made Knights work should be how they were designed in the first place. I'm honestly not against Knights being nerfed into a 30% winrate army and being enouraged to attach to real armies more

ish?

they have a lot of different units, probably one of the most full rosters in 40k, with a lot of different unit types from melee horde to melee elite, infantry and cavalry and bikes and copters, ranged infantry, artillery tanks trucks and airplanes, buggies and speeders and trikes and walkers. they have basically every unit type in the game meaning you can employ all sorts of strategies with them if you buy the right things.

buuuuuuuuuuuuut

their internal balance is, and always has been, absolutely fucking TERRIBLE, some of the worst out of any army in the game, with some units completely useless, others strong, and you have a lot of redundancy where one unit is just a straight up better version of another unit that does more or less the same thing.

also more often than not their best strategy just involves seeing how many green jungle booty boys you can cram down the opponents throat as quickly as possible. also their shooting is pretty much perpetually hamstrung by the ever present 5+ to hit that GW feels absolutely must be a part of their identity.

so eh, yes and no

I would agree. Cursed foundings don't *have* to follow that mold (Like the Minotaurs don't, although their connection with Mars is probably heretical in it's extent) but the 21st founding was explicitly stated by the designers as facilitating using loyalist/chaos/renegade rules for a single chapter.

necrons are not foreshadowed as being in control of the situation, caught between different enemy forces and a brewing civil conflict, unfortunately

unless GW wants to give them some new cool models representing the advancements they had in studying human pariahs, which may justify a pushback, but nothing is on the horizon on that front, unfortunately

chances are the warzone will be resolved anticlimatically with something like

>somehow doesn't spill on anything

>everyone says no one after another
>10 mins go by and he's almost done his sub
>asks all 6 of us AGAIN if he can see our models while reaching for them
>everyone says no again

You know, if I didn't know what these were supposed to be I don't think I would completely hate these models. Take it in a vacuum They're pretty cool if generic looking design. They're just not very exciting and look more like a battle line unit than an elite strike Force

>>

I genuinely don't understand how eldarfags think these look good
is it just because they're faithful to the original sculpts? It's not like the original designs are anything good either

it's not gw's disinterest

It's a pity those Sanguinary Guard look like such dogshit.

I member how they were afraid to put a close-up picture of that model. It came from pic related box and every model had a close-up photo on GW store but this one. I even sent a question to GW regarding that. I got a generic "Sorry but we don't have any pictures" response.

>>
>>94763025
NTA and the "doesn't let anyone touch them" part is probably a gross exaggeration, but the Eldar are 100% Jes Goodwin's darling babies, and I'd say it's more than a little coincidental that the favoured creation of one of GW's senior oldheads remains virtually unchanged 30 years later while almost literally everything else in the game has had fairly substantial changes over the years.

2e Guard was effectively uniform with the fatigues and all, and it was mostly weapons and pieces of wargear that changed. Like Tallarn and Steel Legion had tunics. Mordians and Praetorians had epaulets and different hats. Catachans took of the jackets. Stuff like that. In 3e they went all over the place from naked grandmas and Mad Max rejects to half-skitarii and near space marines (OG Elysians were just converted SM scouts).

I think GW has given up on trying to make IG another SM where there's a core design with upgrade kits and regimental boxes, and instead they're just gonna be releasing full lineups for different regiments on a rotations, clearing old ones from the roster for new ones. Still better than 30k Army being stick with one regiment for everything and shitty token PDF rules that they don't even want to acknowledge half the time.

probably, but he's counter to what a typical guard army wants. 12" move, giant base, can't go in transports. He's got three orders but his only other benefit is a vaguely useful combat profile and a pre-game redeploy.

If I were to ever get horrible brain damage and want him in my army I'd have to convert some kind of little staff command car to even remotely fit with what I want in my army, since I have no rough riders to make the most of his actual stats.

Im not sure a single person in all of 40k has ever actually run him with rough riders

A big part of what made him great (and got him nerfed) was that he was the only model in the codex that could order certain units like baneblades and ogryns.

So you always ran him with a command squad so you could use the command squad's radio.
