He actually developed Capgrass Syndrome after suffering a head injury in battle and the entire thing is a delusion. He's already killed several friends, family members and coworkers and is wanted by the authorities.

This one dude I made a while ago was just a shepherd who was good at bonking with a stick. He was so good that a traveling merchant saw him bonking wolves and hired him with the other party members in that large town. He refused to use metals because he didn't think he was worth it, so after a while, he was rewarded a super bat from a Dryid demi-god from a magical tree. He used it to Bonk a evil dragon. An older Gnome NPC used his network of contacts and experience in the industry to handle the information gathering / bartering portion of the job, while my guy - a big bulky Lizardfolk - acted as an enforcer for him, and more often than not was the one doing the actual salvaging while the Gnome was handling the boat.To cut it short, one day the boat got sank and his boss died, so while that avenue of work was pretty much cut off, exploring and looting ruins sounded similar enough and profitable enough that he set out that way.
