trying to make a mechanicum+militia list

for bots I got 2x thanatars and 4x castellax
I also have 3 allied leman russes

now, this techno-arcana allows the techpriests to give BS buffs to the allied russes, and combined with the cyberthurgy that allows it to be done at 12" range

but how much is too much of that cyberthurgy?
I have the archmagos, 2 dominus and 2 enginseers running it

What's the average kill-count of your standard line-legionary? Some novels have mentioned Kharn's running kill-tally thing in his helmet but it wasn't even past 999 so I thought it was comically low considering who he is. Any other sources? It seems like it would be one of those things that would be severely underestimated by the writers because the alternative is absurdly large numbers to account for the fact that they conquered the galaxy, similar to the rate at which planets were brought under compliance (sort of this thing we aren't meant to think about too literally).

Well you can play non loyalist Space Wolves and Imperial Fists. I don't have all the horus heresy rule books, and Valdor went rogue after the heresy, but in a strange way as he already had a force, ships etc to go anti imperial. As if he was prepared for it in advance, and this means he and some of his custodes would have to had started, before the Emperor was entombed on his throne. But again I am mostly a kill team/w40k player, that is why I am asking.
I have a custodes army, but I also like how Emperors Children stuff looks like.

Burgeoning SoH anon here again. Going to start building and painting despoliers tomorrow. What are some fun ways to run them?
I was thinking of 20 inside of a spartan w/ chaplain, but I’m considering 2 smaller units of 10 inductii instead. Should I put them in transports? Do they need a delivery system? I’ve also decided to increase my 2 tactical squads to 16 man each (inspired by display armies in the core rulebook). God I love infantry spam.

Would strongly recommend just footslogging despoilers. With fixed run move distance it has become quite easy to get into charge range turn 2 with units that are running on foot. Never put despoilers in a spartan, because for less points than a spartan you can field an entire second 20 man despoiler squad with apothecary. And target saturation beats transports, especially when everybody expects to run into a flare shield spartan and builds their list accordingly.
Field one big unit of 20 myself. With the full compliment of power weapons, plus apothecary. Don't usually put a chaplain with them, because he goes with the elite melee squad.

It does. Specially when there's also two or more dreadnoughts and your big elite melee deathstar shoved right in the enemy army's face. Outside maybe plasma myrmidons spam, no army has enough firepower to clear all that in a single turn. And once turn 2 starts everything is locked in combat all the time, so nothing can get shot.

Tried using snipers to get the spite of the legion bonus, but nobody ever fails their pinning tests. A librarian with telepathy would probably work better, with the huge modifier it applies to the leadership test.

spite of the legion can also be triggered if there's no characters in the squad. so it surprisingly always work on dreads

Depends on what you want from your despoilers. If you purely want to go after MEQ then I'd go power spears over mauls. Sure, the mauls wound easier, but with spears they attack at initiative 5, reducing the models attacking back.
Can take power axes to have them be a bit more flexible, and also be able to hurt 2+ armour save units. Do attack at initiative 1, but in a unit of 20 there should be enough ablative wounds to keep them alive until they attack.
Charnabal sabres are also surprisingly decent, though I would maybe give the sergeant another melee weapon too that does more heavy lifting outside of challenges.
And don't forget to give the apothecary a power weapon too, that's basically another sergeant worth of attacks.

Personally not a fan of rotor cannons, too reliant on enemy units failing a pinning test to earn their value.
Don't worry too much about needing to trigger spite of the legion, my despoiler squads almost never get it but still do alright. Just make sure that when a more elite melee unit catches them you got a dreadnought or elite melee unit of your own nearby to help out your despoilers.

3 russes would only gain any real benefit if they don't have Blast weapons and yes BS5 co-ax autocannon/vanquisher cannons is a good thing - 5/6 to hit with the autocannon and if you do, 97/100 to hit with the vanquishers

if it's Cyber-augmetics+Industrial Stronghold then why stop at 3 russes? go for six, that's 12 vanquisher shots at BS5 per turn, you will kill a primarch with that

but at the end of the day they're only Third-line so even krak missiles can penetrate them from the front, you're giving up shooting on a toaster who can get some very nice weapons itself and if they're your firebase you'll probably spend most of that Battlesmithing trying to stop them exploding and probably want to do a lot of it in person since the Techpriests can Battlesmith too

Custodes are super loyal to Emperor and you can play them only as loyalists, but here comes tricky part. I've got a SoH army which is well painted and I want to sell it.i have a potential buyer but no idea of value.

Realistically, how common would Artificer armour on Tactical marine sergeants be in 30k?
It dawned on me that everyone in my friend group takes Artificer at every possible opportunity, as well as power weapons on sergeants. I'm not complaining about Artificer armour and I understand it's point as a +1 save bump to help with duels vs power weapon enemies, but would legionaries be given the suits so freely?
If the game was to be played in a historical recreation type game, would every squad leader get it? Or is it only for the most exceptional warriors/those who supplied their own gear (salamanders or legionaries who are good friends with tech marines, etc)?

I got a pair of armigers. Does anyone have some conversion ideas for the weapons? These guys are gonna be freeblades so I though having an alternative gun would be cool but my bits are a bit limited.

Progress on my fetish doll marines continues. Hunting for unpainted parts on the model before they get a gloss coat for their waterslides and panel lining.

I posted the two vex carriers previously asking for opinions on what colors to paint the vexillas, but it got derailed pretty quickly on account of them being fetish dolls. So I’m asking again.

These guys are tactical marines, but given the lore from Malevolence we know that the BA have a strong NCO corps to keep the regular legionaries in line and stop them from eating people, so for my tactical marines I’ve painted up 3 guys in veteran colors to show how they’re the ones who take command if the sergeant gets fragged, and they can also lead smaller fire teams if the squad has to break down.

I’m thinking of using red and yellow on the banners like the classic BA banners but I’m also afraid of the ketchup mustard look, but ketchup and mustard does look good. Also considering black and white, and purple.

the palace coup was an armed resistance by a surviving band of TW to put Capatain-General Valdor on trial for the massacre of TW on Mt. Ararat anon. It is true Emps never wanted to use the TW to conquer the galaxy, thanks to BL we have TW stating that their numbers were never replenished during the Unification, and Mt. Ararat occurred by his decree. Yet, at the same time aged mortals were given proper medical care and could retire peacefully after unification if they desired or accompany the fleets if they wished.
Why is the not the case of the TW? They are the most human of Emps gene altered creations after all, just like mortals they were affected by psychosis, degeneration, organ failure, and they aged just ignore they fact they were combat ready longer than the normal lifespan of mortal men. Why were they alone singled out by Emps to be hunted down if they survived by the DA with such agency?

We saw it with the TW and we saw the forced retirement of members of the 19th after the Jovian cleanse. Thanks to Path of Heaven we saw his ideas about the Nav houses. You can argue he doesn't, but it's not one that holds water.

I think what people seem to forget because it's cool to hate the Emperor is that the tools he discarded were ones that were usually broken or dangerous. Thunder Warriors were turning into soup on the battlefield and couldn't operate in the larger galaxy without his direct supervision, or the Navigator houses were like a cartel wielding a disproprotionate amount of power in the Imperium +mutants+getting rid of the Warp was always his plan anyway, how do you think the powerful Navigator houses would react if they get wiff of the Webway project (which ma very well be something that's mentioned in PoH, I didn't read that one. Do you recommend?

...then supervise them? 40k Wulfen and Death Company are exactly the same, yet they are offered a warrior's death before putting them down behind a Costco like the Thunder Warriors were.

Well the Wulfen and Death Company aren't exactly known things in the wider Imperium, and the Emperor isn't around to make a decision on them, they are being given a warrior's death by their own chapters not a larger Imperial authority. And this is getting really far from the original point which was that the Emperor still has no reason to do this to the astartes legions in general even if it was pretty likely he would have wiped out the Night Lords and World Eaters at the end there. But then in those situations its basically the same story, those two legions were actually a danger to his plans, an uncontrollable tool, compared to the other model legions

Are you actually putting forth the idea Angron and Konrad were not broken or dangerous? Emps gets rid of tools when he's finished with them. Whether you think that's okay or not is a personal choice that reflects you ideas about Emps himself, but all of his tools are "Dangerous". The real question is if he's done with them or not.
With this in mind remember that the topic was about marine rights and how they were being phased out of leadership positions in the IoM as the GC came to the close with some anon saying that Emps would never kill them because reasons
Marines were a tool to conquer the Galaxy anon and we have seen how Emps treats his tools.

But so much of the lore says that at the point of the Heresy they were basically about to purge the NL and WE, and the NL were a renegade legion in all but name. His tools are dangerous but not to him per se.

I unironically believe that the Emperor was justified with all of his decisions with the sole exception of not just helping Angron, and even in that case, he probably remembered the last time he helped fight one of his son's battles for him (Mortarion), and look how that was repaid.

Oh no, i was only referring to the culling of Thunder Warriors being unnecessary. Like, it could've even been possible to set up a Veteran Affairs office to care for them as retirees if you want to. It's not like they had long to live either way right?
Whoever doesn't want to retire (AKA none) gets to serve still and hopefully die with honour in combat.
But setting up a VA office means it's no longer YOUR fault: you agreed to fund it, it's them who don't want your help. And it declares that which should have never been a secret to begin with:

Marines are SLAVES who are for conquering through extreme violence. And they do it FOR FREE.
They are given meals, gear and ammo, but no actual money and wouldn't know what to do with it except trade it for raw materials for more meals, gear and ammo.

The Emperor undoubtedly could have created space marines in a way that they did not need to recruit from regular humans. But he made sure that marines need humans to sustain their numbers, because space marines are created to serve and protect humanity.
