>One of the coolest settings ever>Nobody talks about it Why? Also how does the new edition compare to the original?
>>94798980>>Nobody talks about itbecause frankly I don't care much for urban fantasy except for occasional white wolf interest flare-ups.
>>94799043white wolf games are trash compared to kult, maybe kult should have added vampires
>>94798980Cool setting, more or less a one-shot as a game. once you played through it once you never want to do it again. At least the original system.
>>94798980I can't talk about the recent editions, but the original was a hit in Europe thanks to his mature themes beyond teenage angst and had amazing art.AFAIK the second edition art changes and a bit of evident self-censorship to appease stupid americans killed its momentum and it never recovered. It was like a mix of Call of Cthulu and World of Darkness, but lacked the big list of classic books of the first to ease people into it, and wasn't really about the power/freakshit fantasies of the later, so the theater kids didn't last.A shame, because the setting is fucking amazing, but it requires players invested into it and doesn't work with randos or pick up games.
>>94798980>>94799180I knew people who were playing it in the mid-noughties, but it was part of my university RPG society and they only ever ran kult for oneshots, and I typically played other stuff.I don't know a thing about the 2018 edition but my guess is that, like everything else that was born in the 90s edginess boom, a late-2010s-onwards reboot will have sanded down all the edge.
>>94799390I played it in the 90s and Kult was definitely edgy, but it had depth. It wasn't only about living in a Hellraiser meets Dark City setting with lots of body and psychological horror. But going beyond doing that was difficult and required a good GM to avoid gaming sessions becoming a series of deathly and gory encounters.
>>94799180care to talk about what kind of campaigns you ran with this game?
>>94799643I didn't play any campaigns, just a few connected sessions that never became more. They nwere nothing special but I saw the potential. I loved it, and I wished I had the opportunity to GM it.Is that type of TTRPG that is worth to buy to just to read it even if you don't really plan to play. At last that was my impression of the 1st ed, published in my country. Also chicks loved the poster in pic related that I had in my room :)
>>94798980I mean, it's fine. It's never had an edition with fun mechanics though so it's held back by that.
>>94799683Kek, nice anon.
>>94798980Can you tell me why it matters whether or not people talk about it, or are you going to pitch a fit and deflect like the last fag I asked that question?
>>94798980>how does the new edition compare to the original?https://kultrpg428229752.wordpress.com/2018/10/09/kult-divinity-lost-review/
>>94800020>it's PbtAoh.
>>94798980I've wanted to play the CCG for a while
>Want to play Kult for Seven-style scenarios>Uncomfortable with the idea of playing Seven-style scenarios with my friends>Uncomfortable with the idea of playing Seven-style scenarios with strangers>Friends want action and mystery, and not razorbladed dildos >Don't play Kult>tfw already in Elysium
Ignoring what you don't want to address is also a sign of petulance.
>>94799045Isn't Kult about Humans acktchualily being Turbo Antediluvian Tzimisces and shit already?
What was that game kind of like this but set on a lawless island or something?
>>947989804e was ruined because they made it PbtA garbage
>>94798980>Why?Popularity completely died out post the original fame. Sadly, only heard stories about it, never did ttrpgs until recently. >Also how does the new edition compare to the original?Eventually, got to play both versions. 3rd edition is really cute, loved it, despite a few questionable mechanics.4e is weird, imho. It sure keeps a bunch of concepts from the original, so it's more or less the same kinds of story (even managed to play old adventures in the new system), but PbtA inclusion is hit or miss. Compared to other PbtA it is good with not a lot of bullshit thrown in, but it would be better, using other kind of system (ffs, even storypath). But in general it suffers from the same problems Unknown Armies does: world is different, than in late 90s and it feels.
>>94801881It's basically edgelord fedora Gnosticism.
>>94802099Over the Edge?
>>94798980Well, I, for one, have never heard of it before.
>>94798980>new editionIt got the fashion magazine treatment so you have to squint your eyes to read font on top of image backgrounds.
