I'm into /k/ stuff, military, not necessarily futuristic but modern stuff. I used to play GURPS with friends, but life got in the way and we pretty much stopped or moved away from.

Any /k/ related game I could play with friends that's not so convoluted like miniature games that require the miniatures and a huge setup, like a tabletop Advance Wars clone?
I've heard about War Chest, but it lacks the terrain tactics and maneuvers I want.

there's The Veil Riders RPG, it's literally made by a /k/unt

Well if it's an RPG you are looking for, then you might want to check out Modern War by Zozer Games. The Mechanics are based on Mongoose Traveller 1E / Cepheus Engine. It's a squad level game set in "Modern" times but there are expansions for WW 1, Aircraft, and even a couple of campaigns.

I'm a /k/ommando as well. You should look into Twilight 2k. Plenty of Cold War autism to sate you. There's also a new edition that seems pretty cool.
You're kind of pigeonholing yourself, though. If you don't want miniatures, you can play an RPG or hex and chit game. However, if you don't want it to be convoluted, you are ruling out some awesome games. Complexity is a spectrum, and some things that seem to be very confusing are actually pretty intuitive. You should check out the /hwg/ thread.
What era are you interested in? What scale do you want to play? (fireteam, squad, platoon, battalion etc.) There's a lot to choose from.

Probably squad/platoon at most. I want something I can bring my friends in, since they latched on the "tabletop" craze of the last few years. Hard to do with printed character sheets and whatnot.
Something with some eyecandy is nice, but I don't want to break the bank with miniatures.

If you're not entirely opposed to miniatures, I'd look at something in 15mm scale. Force on Force is great for modern warfare stuff at a squad level and the rules are incredibly simple. 15mm miniatures are also incredibly cheap. Picrel is ten dollars for a pack of 20, and they're really fast to paint. Some games have you base them multiple figures to one base to represent larger elements, and some games like Force on Force have you base them individually. I use pennies for 15mm infantry. Vehicles are similarly cheap and terrain can be done for pennies if you want to go that route.
Like I said, though, if you don't want to deal with miniatures at all games like Twilight 2K which are RPGs first and foremost also make for decent wargames and don't require any miniatures.
I'd recommend also checking out Littlewars.tv and their youtube channel. They play a ton of different systems and eras, and one of their battle reports will probably appeal to you.

The Firelock 198X guys run their games on tabletop simulator if you want to do a wargame without minis.

You might look into osprey publishing’s game line. Some are miniature based but they don’t care what kind you have, others are rpgs

Savage worlds has some modern firearms supplements, and as a setting it supports tons of stuff without going too convoluted unless you want it to.
