CAMPAIGN 3 IS FINALLY ENDING THANK FUCK EDITIONAfter 120 episodes this disaster of a campaign which caused /crg/ to die off, the show's popularity to dwindle and CR's own subreddit turn against it, finally drawing to a close let's have a thread to witness the (likely) finale and discuss the future of the showQuick recap of the last story arc:>the party goes to the moon to stop a guy trying to release a god-eater>campaign goes full memberberries mode as PC parties from previous campaigns join up with them to fight the BBEG>the BBEG, a 1000 years old ultra-powerful wizard who's been scheming for centuries, dies like a bitch in an epic 1v9 fight after casting a mildly threatening level 9 spell and wasting all of his legendary resistances on concentration saves for said spell>the party stands alone in front of an eldritch being that wants to eat all of the gods>even now, after 120 episodes, the party has no idea what to actually do and a prolonged discussion ensues whether or not to actually release it>keep in that mind the BBEG's plan was to release it and the party seemingly had no objections to that plan, they simply disliked the guy>matt grows so tired of the party's fence-sitting he railroads laura's main character (sorry liam) to go forward and merge with itWith Matt's patience growing thin will the party finally face consequences after more than 3 years of dodging plot hooks and chaotic stupidity? Will he nuke his own setting? Will the characters from previous campaigns show up to save the day? Will the most powerful being in the universe be action-economied to death? >>94823138They're gonna talk-no-jutsu through this encounter won't they?
The only real play I kinda follow is Adventures in Lollygagging, but on podcast format where I can slowly go through it whenever. I particularly like how they make 3-10 episodes and switch among small games like Die or Orbital Blues.I always knew CR was the big hitter that made the format popular but never got into it. Now that I've accepted the format should I watch CR? What's the main appeal? Can someone sell me on it?
>>94823152Yes, but they're also going to do a slog combat for 3 hours. Episode is 4 hrs and 23 mins long, break is at 3 hr and 9 mins

>>94823331>Matt, I would like to roll for a half chub
>>94823291The entire campaign was like a rudderless ship, the characters did not particularly care nor engaged with the main conflict of the season (allowing Predathos to eat all of the gods vs. "Hey, maybe that wouldn't be so good actually"). There were multiple callbacks to previous campaigns, full episodes of them playing as their previous characters and a whole story arc of splitting the partyThe party was completely aversed to danger, utterly spineless and tried to uh and uhm its way to some sort of a finaleAlso the one moment of something happening (3 PCs dying during a single encounter with only 2 possible ressurections) ended up being a scripted mini-arc of the party doing stuff to make the dead PC come back. This disregard of any consequences on top of abysmal pacing is what made most people drop the show I reckon

>>94823431https://daggerheart.org/rules
if they end up not even really fighting predathos because it’s imogen that’s going to be so frustratingly anticlimactic that it would be the perfect ending to this shitshow of a campaign
>>94823431It's going for a more narrative based gameplay. The impression it gave me was that it was kinda trying to be a rules heavy Dungeonworld. It also comes with a bunch of printable power cards, so it has some 4e vibes as well.

>>94823752>oh and btw, this easy as piss boss fight is now even easier and your friends get temporary HPholy fucking shit matt
>>94823759He just described it after she asked to reach for Laudna's thread
>>94823752That has always been Matt's problem. He nudges his players towards things he wants them to do, but always entertains the random stuff they come up with which leads to constant meandering
>>94823759>Did he prompt her or did he describe for her how she ate it?She said she wanted to look for the webs of fate that connected her to her friends. Matt asked her what she wanted to do with them, since she was too distant from her friends to be able to communicate with them. She says she's gonna try to pull 'em, Matt asks her how she tries to do it, she explains and then he goes on to describe how she absorbs the god.It just felt railroady as shit, she clearly wasnt trying to do that.
It doesn't matter that it's not a game. What matters is the players are having fun. And you've never seen players have this much fun for 10 years. So Matt has succeeded at the only thing that matters for a dm.
I'm not into CR. I once saw Matt in a Dimension20 4-parter and he seemed fun, always ready and quick to react even when it went against what he wanted without being overbearing. Is he always this boring when he DMs or only in important fights?

>>94823789I was gonna ask why didn't they play PbtA or something like that instead, but he wouldn't get to railroad people this hard in a game where the players decide story beats. It would never progress neither with this players.
>>94823781He's this boring only with his players because he needs to treat them with kiddy gloves
>>94823781he used to be pretty good in C1, at least IMO. He's good at doing voices, setting up the scene, doing descriptions, but ever since C2 his campaigns are just the shits.Everything is scripted and boring as fuck,it doesn't help it that 90% of the players are borderline retarded.
>>94823796Candela Obscura was pretty much rules light PbtA gay Cthulhu. Don't know how that went
>>94823792I think I'm biased because I only watched D20 when I was at my peak of D&D interest and I found the people playing funny in sketches and game shows. But I feel Brendan was so much better at making combat entertaining, like, it's night and day. I wanted to learn from him, I'd never want a session to go like this one.
>it's an Ashley turn episode
>>94823816At least she's not Melty>I roll an attack, hit, deal 3 different types of damage, apply 5 different buffs and debuffs with said attack half of which I'll forget and will only remind the DM much later to make both him and the player currently playing their turn confused

Dimension 20 gets some great scenes out of nothing, but everyone has decades of experience writing scenes with this people. AiL is much more amateur, so they play games that limit your options and work in limited genres. Normal people just need to be funny once in 4 hours, maybe once every 2-3 sessions, and everyone will be happy. This people work best went prompted to hell and basically told what to do.

>>94825194The white woman seethes
>>94825177she’s a redhead and not skinny anymore. but also he’s older now and he’s the type who goes to burning man and his wife is a known pothead so he’s almost certainly a drug user as well which won’t exactly help him age well
>>94825218nah, the white man isn't free of the curseI don't even know when I started having a belly, I barely eat.
>>94825238You drink too muchSolvedYour body doesn't become immune to the laws of thermodynamics when you turn 30.
>>94825092>>94825099>>94825109thanks anon. did they say anything interesting?

Rate this episode out of 10
>>948253830/10 >noped out on Ashley's turn.
>>948253831/10 only because of how much (temporary) fun it was watching marisha bitch about not having her special mask that she arbitrarily decided was for her. it was then also fun to realize that the mask wasn’t a boon for the wearer but just brought them to talk with rq and she didn’t get anything special from it
Man I don't understand Matt's approach here. He must've spent hours designing this encounter with tons of mechanical depth but he forgot to make it challengingThe boss was constantly switching between gods he was drawing power from but all this amounted to were different flavors of mildly damaging abilitiesThe boss was able to absorb healing, but then he was never dealing enough damage to faciliate healingOne of the players spent the entire fight to weaken the boss from the insight, but once again none of the various powers were threatening so in practice that player's part was pointlessThe boss had abilities to move players around the battlefield but it was rarely used in an interesting wayOne can wonder why Matt bothers to put so much effort into encounters that he should know his players will just steamroll through due to sheer number of bodies and powerful magical items
>>94825436Also the way the mask worked completely destroyed the episode's pacing >Just take a 30 minute timeout when the boss has a handful of hit points left lmao>Also you getting those boons now will confirm a second phase is coming so no surprise bucko
>>94825441It's not actual "depth", anon. This is meant to be "cinematic", to facilitate specific things. It's meant to make them able to say that "WOAAAH PREDATHOS IS USING THE POWER OF ALL THE GODS", what it amounts to isn't relevant.
>>94825441It has something to do with them being fucking garbage and having like 100hp at 15.
>>94825256Man, the CICO thing is junk science. Don't drag that cult stuff into here. I want to shitpost about has-beens failing at games on camera.
>>94825504>what it amounts to isn't relevant. That's why I don't like the praise people give Mercer. He's average tier at best.An actually good DM would actually put the stakes of having these world changing things happen at a threat level.Or at least a mechanical relevant level. He just is about the fancy descriptions for the cutscenes he's imagining.
>>94823360There it is, the 'pretend to laugh along in order to touch Laura' maneuver
>>94822947Will the critical role cast finally switch to ad&d 1e as promised earlier last year?
>>94823495>>94823388>restraining order thrown out of court by judge for being frivolous and "to gain upper hand in litigation">the lawsuit by several women including Ashley for alleged harassment was dismissed.>Ashley's lawyer (who had to settle in his own rape case) was allegedly even harassing Brian's dying mother.CR and their circle are all horrible people. Don't be conned.
>>94823331Add Patrick Rothfuss there too. That fuck has been scamming his audience for over a decade and his "charity"'s tax declarations read like something by Capone.
>>94826526At least she's vaguely attractive...is that a wheelchair?
>>94826677I hadn't noticed it until you mentioned
>>94826526>the purple afro'ed black woman who smugly rewrites the very fabric of magic>but also carts herself around in a unwieldy medieval wooden wheelchairI wanna ascribe them some spite in these kinda people seemingly still trying to force that lame wooden wheelchair of all things, but the sad thing is, that at the core there is no genuine agency in that thing's continuous existence other than it being the most efficient symbol to show that this box has been ticked. How is their retarded audience to know how progressive and moral this is at a glance if she floated, was carried by a summon or had a magitech exo-skeleton, etc.?
>>94827139Riding a sick as fuck tarantula golem just doesn't scream 'disability'
>>948232697 15-level dudes sounds like a Nightmare for any DM, proportional to the amount of casters in the party
>>94827139>>94827154These retards have even made being crippled lame.I used to minmax paraplegic gurps characters in sick cyborg exoskeletons because I thought robocop was cool.
>>94827738it’s actually 8. don’t forget the mystery meat guest who they don’t seem to have the balls to make any sort of public announcement that he has officially joined the cast full time or anything, but at the same time they seem to act like it’s a given that he is indeed a full on member of the group now just like the OGs. for example, in the most recent oneshot they did, it was him liam and matt with three guests.
The PCs' outcomes have always been dictated (consensual/scripted deaths) along with the rigged campaigns. Of course they're still incompetent after a decade. When did you guys realize CR was storytelling rather than an honest game?
>>94825256It's not just calories.Your muscle needs change and maintaining them becomes trickier, your organs get bloated and process stuff worse, your skin gets softer. You can't stop aging, but you can accept it and find joy fucking people your own age.
>>94826089An actually good DM would create a feedback loop with the players. But he can't, the format won't allow it. >>94827154The issue is that I'd do that and my legs work pretty well, tons of people would. So it doesn't register as paralytic.>>94831438That's absurd, the storytelling would be decent and they wouldn't take ages to do stuff if it was all scripted.
Before the thread dies I unclench my fists.
>>94823407WAIT I THOUGHT DAGGERHEART WAS ANIMAL PEOPLE. WHY IS THERE A BLACK WOMAN IN THE ART.
>>94832748(You)
Kinda late for this, but does anyone have the greentext were that Orion in Review anon analyzed the Kraken incident with Marisha?
>>94833230Yeah I got ithttps://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/82555382/#82586751
>>94822947>campaign goes full memberberries mode as PC parties from previous campaigns join up with them to fight the BBEGThat sounds fucking awesome, but I can't be bothered to go and watch all that to see it, and I'm guessing if I would jump into the point where that happens, it won't feel earned and I won't know wtf is going on so I guess I'll never watch this campaign. Dropped it when they met that fey changeling, it just didn't have any speed to it and they had just been in a tpk encounter where everyone was allowed to live and then needed to go save a PC in order to get her to live as well. Wasn't feeling it at that point especially since the setting is so weird and hard to get excited about.
>>94822947Oh shit nigga this thing still happening?
>>94833547>casting lvl2 spells as a bonus action is a reassonable rule for higher levels2021 /tg/ had really shitty 5e takes
