Post miscellaneous ideas you had for spells and other magical effects.I think a nefarious idea for a high level spell would be "Inflict MAJOR food allergy" on someone unexpecting. Then out of nowhere the next time the target eats shellfish or something they go into anaphylactic shock and die. Makes it seem like he died from just a latent unknown food allergy, hard to track back to foul play, very subtle.Or even if they do see it, you can target their favorite food. that's a way to inflict major moral damage to the enemy. You can even try to throw that food at them next turn/action and try to get them to bust into hives, or get your servile creatures to do that for you.Other ideas?
>>94828193that idea fucking sucks
>>94828287why? Allergic reactions are a great way to cover up murder.
>>94828381If magic exists that can give people allergies, magic probably exists that can cure them too. Unless you're doing that retarded D&D style worldbuilding where magic is just haphardly tacked onto the setting and nobody except the players uses it or know how it works. In a non-retarded/non-DnD setting, any noble or ruler of note are going to have personal mages in their entourage to make sure random shitters can't just cast spells on their employers. Hell, in a non-retarded/non-DnD setting, every noble is probably educated enough in magic to know when they've been cursed, charmed, or otherwise magically attacked.
>>94828428How would you know they are now allergic to crawfish?latent curses arent exactly a rarity in fantasy. Sounds like you are anal retentively trying to find flaws in something pretty basic as far magic is often concerned.A powerful mage making you allergic to peanuts isnt some inordinately out of bounds thing to do across fantasy. A High level wizard in BECMI could definitely make something like this if they were inclined to spend the money and time on it, It would definetly be possible for a mage in the Elder scrolls, it would be possible in warhammer fantasy for a life mage. I could see a dark mage cursing conan with the liquid shits if he ate kiwis and now conan is trying to kill that mage to undo it.THe premise isnt exactly mind shattering.
>>94828534Most settings have shit like DETECT MAGIC you can cast on someone to see if they're under any magical effects. Also, it's not exactly easy or covert if the spell requires you to stand near someone and, y'know, cast a spell.
>>94828669Didnt say it has to be foolproof or the standard way to go for magical offence, just A spell. Someone who is paranoid enough can solve a lot of things.>Also, it's not exactly easy or covert if the spell requires you to stand near someone and, y'know, cast a spell.fuck, its really too bad we've never seen covert ways to impart curses. you've really rattled my APPLES, anon.
>>94828534>wizard holds up his staff>yells "BIBBLEDIBOO NO SEAFOOD FOR YOU!" across the dining tableTruly the most subtle of murder methods. How would anyone ever find him out?
>>94828909He cant be a suspect because he is the one who warned the victim about his late onset food allergy in the first place. its the perfect murder.
>>94828428>In a non-retarded/non-DnD setting, any noble or ruler of note are going to have personal mages in their entourage to make sure random shitters can't just cast spells on their employers.Food tasters didn't stop all manners of poisoning, and the demographics may simply not support everyone of importance having a court wizard. Such demographics naturally lend themselves to those who don't rarely being threatened, just as food tasters had prevalence far in excess of those actually at risk of being poisoned, but once somebody who lacks the wealth or status for that safeguard IS threatened...>Hell, in a non-retarded/non-DnD setting, every noble is probably educated enough in magic to know when they've been cursed, charmed, or otherwise magically attacked.Take a look at the history of medical diagnoses and tell me with a straight face that similar ineffectual nonsense wouldn't proliferate for magic. To say nothing of the disparity between dabbling for self-defense against life-long dedication.>>94828669Detect Magic is usually quite general in categorization and poor at separating effects on a person, while identifying specific spells by watching the final casting tends to be difficult.>>94828909Verbal components are rarely descriptive and material components are often moon-logic or anachronism. Hence why identifying spells upon their casting is non-trivial.Countermeasures will certainly be attempted, but it will almost certainly not be foolproof. Because for all people may try to be optimal, they nearly always fail, and blanket "It Just Works" defenses tend to be incredibly rare.
>>94829919>Verbal components are rarely descriptive and material Shouting out some gibberish in latin and scattering a few peanut shells into the air in the middle of dinner, and then a noble suddenly dies of a food allergy? People are blaming the wizard even if he didn't actually do anything.
>>94828193What are some cool elemental spell ideas? One I’ve been considering is a fire spell that allows a fire mage to use their body heat as an emergency source of energy to power a blast of flame, which is also perfect for staying cool in hot environments, or draining heat from others to freeze them, but that’s a lot harder to pull off. There’s also a lightning spell that supercharges your muscles briefly, but the caster has to focus on strength vs speed, or an ice spell that stops your heart temporarily, allowing you to act without emotion if needed. Would love to hear what you think!
>>94831251i cast "kill yourself bumpfag"
>>94829919>Verbal components are rarely descriptiveFortanu!FOR DIGIMON!Vermithrax, pejorative, icta, icta, klaatu
>>94828193In Stars without Number there is an entire psychic power dedicated to giving someone cancer
>>94831760anon, thats just called shiving someone with a uranium rod.
>>94828193For a while now I had this idea in my head for a high level fuck-necromancy spell. It would turn any undead and any corpses in the spell radius into useless plants.
>>94828193I had an idea for an alchemist that wanted to speed run his way into being richThe plan? Embellishment embalming, a complex and resource intensive spell that requires the subject to be buried in a specialized casket filled with earth with a complex solution of various noble metals and minerals injected into the body, under the span of a week, the natural degradation of the body is fossilized and the various tissues are replaced by the previously used rich metals and minerals, the liver becomes an oppal like gem, major veins become a shiny ruby like metal and so on.
You see a lot of threads ruined because OP didn't give any examples, this is a case of an interesting topic ruined by OP's example.
>>94832457Whats wrong with inflicting allergies? I thought it was inventive.
>>94831842>useless plantwhat does that mean? like weeds instead of grapes? Also sounds like a good way to piss off communities who have burial cultures.
>>94833621>>94832457honestly I think it's a fun idea, but the world "allergy" just takes away from the "fantasy setting with wizards and elves" feel.not sure what could be a better wording though.
>>94833630>burial cultures>in a setting with necromancycome on
>>94833635I thought it sounded nice and terry Pratchett. Discworld kinda goofy but still you can find yourself in mortal peril kind of stuff. Might not work in a super serious setting. I Like the old Mystara d&D gazetteres and something like it would definitely fit in Glantri (Wizard ruled country full of feuding wiard nobles with a metric assload of wizard backstabbing and realpolitiks.)
>>94833662>Discworldah, could beI hated those novels, so I can't really judge
>>94833646tbf anon, where do all the necromancers get thier dead? in most common settings its usual that it is burial culture so you CAN get a night of the living dead seen of zombies rising from graves and shit. And you are supposed to either handwave or give some half thought out lore reason why people still bury after a few thosand years of mad rogue necromancers.
>>94833662>>94833666Ive never pasted the first chapter of one either. my entire knowledge comes from browsing TV tropes 10 years ago I think.
>>94833671>tbf anon, where do all the necromancers get thier dead? it really depends on how much awareness of necromancy is in the settingin a setting where it's known that necromancers are a thing, people wouldn't have a burial culture, unless they were fine with necromancy for whatever reason. In settings where buried dead aren't a thing, necromancers would have to get dead from battlefields, or from shady dealings.
>>94833709>in a setting where it's known that necromancers are a thing, people wouldn't have a burial cultureI mean, if the God/s still want burial, it could still happen. In Warhammer fantasy, I think the god of the dead, Moor prefers the dead unmangled when put to rest.
>>94828193What game?
>>94834011All of them
>>94828428>if bullets exist, every noble would be wearing full kevlarThe stupidity of so called non-retarded worldbuilders make me extremely thankful that I'm retarded
