Now that I’ve properly based my giant, I don’t know what I want to do with him before he gets primed so I can paint him.

The goal is to have him hold some resemblance to Polyphemus, or at least reference to him. I might cover up the other eye with greenstuff, and install a ball bearing into the forehead (which would be an eye), but beyond that I’m out of ideas.

Each of the colours/schools of magic is basically just to bring models of the classic wizard archetypes into the game. White wizards are clerics, grey wizards are Gandalf, gold wizards are alchemists, etc. It's a bit strange that death magic and necromancy are distinct though.

As for magic acting like an actual colour wheel? Not really. The different winds do mix together to form spells, but it's not like any lore is "between" two others, or a mix of them.

Give it to me straight: how is ToW doing sales wise? I love Warhammer Fantasy and really want to see it do well
>>
>>94834119
We don't know the exact numbers, but we can extrapolate that it's doing quite well. It's being played at my LGS and that's the only real metric that I care about.
You shouldn't worry about sales. Paint some models, play some games and contribute instead.
>>
>>94834119
In the US, very well. Locally, my LGS has multiple TOW nights per week and has run a couple tournaments, meanwhile they made a throne out of the unsold Skaventide boxes as a gag and stopped buying new AoS stock because it just doesn't sell here. Supposedly AoS sells much better in the UK, probably in the faggier US cities as well.
>>
>>94834119
None of the boxes have sold out after dwarves in the US (most likely because they upped production for plastic), but aside from that we dont really know any figures. We can only really compare it to other side games like horus heresy and necrocum.
>>
Bret characters are still sold out, what, 8 months later? My shipment from Chang will probably arrive by the time they restock.

I don't know why AoS doesn't hit these beats for me but WF reminds me so much of the older fantasy fiction I read as a kid, especially the Conan the Barbarian books in regards to the way it alludes to antediluvian places and names, that I can't help but love it. I'm sad I missed out on its heyday, but my LGS owner and I are both happy we found someone else who likes WF, at least. I really do believe GE made a mistake making things more "MMO-like" with sigmar, there's a certain classical fantasy tone here that hits so well that I haven't felt at all in the newer stuff. AoS reminds me of Kingdoms of Amalur or something, and that's not a good thing.

>>
>>94833783
You can usually find new-old stock or basically-new copies of stuff on ebay for only a bit above RRP if you're a little patient, but yeah it's a pain in the arse innit. It's even better now where they do occasionally do reprints but they're always FOMO editions they only do one print run of and if you happen to have more in your life than obsessively monitoring GW's socials to plan what to buy next you might miss the second or third book in a series coming out. I doubt we'll get reprints of old Fantasy stuff now anyway, that ludicrous TOW novel they published clearly shows they intend to "update the IP for modern audiences" so things like heroic white males and women who do anything except save the day while exchanging quips with their black transfemme girlfiend or whatever will be as welcome as a fart at a dinner party.
>>
>>94834101
As a fellow autist I'll give you a tip anon, look for an overtly, performatively freaky one. In the same way that often quiet and shy-seeming chicks are actually legitimate psychofreaks in bed, a lot of the "I AM WOMAN BEND OVER AND HEAR ME ROAR" femdom types would really prefer a more typical modern equal-terms relationship and the leather & whip stuff is just a mask for her anxiety. The advantage of them is they tend to be a lot more comfortable being the one who makes moves and prompts you to give them what they want, rather than sitting there like a fucking Sphynx and expecting you to telepathically divine their wants and desires and then just walking away when you can't.

You just have to play up the 'tism to hold off on sex until after she's past the phase where she'll try to peg you lol.

>play up the 'tism to hold off on sex
No problems there, I like to take things slow. I'm 90% sure that's what cost me that last qt I mentioned. If I wasn't a low self esteem sexual hangup cunt and just invited her back to my place she would've come.

>relationship advice from little toy soldier enthusiasts
>>
>>94834552
I wouldn't take advice from Anons but personally I'm in a successful relationship in 12 years and counting.
It always baffles me how Anons are hell-bent on hiding their hobbies and acting like miniature wargaming is handicapping them. Most women were either mildly interested or at least friendly neutral towards my hobbies finding them oddly childish for someone of my type but generally harmless or even superior to watching games or playing vidya. Many were actually impressed when shown my armies in person since people that are not into wargaming have a hard time to imagine the scale.
Crafty bitches seem to be naturally positive towards this kind of hobbies tho. I have a female co-worker that is into casual sculpting, 3D printing and jewellery-craft. She visited our place once and letting her into my hobby zone was like giving a fat kid a key to a candy shop. I think I could grab her by her chin and spit into her mouth and she wouldn't mind, she was totally bewitched.

The HE battalion box seems pointless, again. Spearmen and regular archers don't seen good to me. I'd rather just spend the points on Lothern Sea Guard who are a bit better and are more expensive in points which lets me fill out Core easier.
>>
>>94834689
Battallion Box is not meant to give you a meta troop. Its meant to give you lots of basic infantry and something special for a good deal.
>>
>>94833715
Yes, you are right. I wouldn't blame NATO tho' - the whole eastern bloc narrative came from Soviet Union (us against them) - and NATO just accepted it for some reason. I guess it was a way to cope with guilt for selling half of Europe to Soviets against the will of those countries basically for trinkets and false promise of peace.

Seconding this. Plenty of women can appreciate wargames stuff for the same reason nerds get bullied; crafting and painting tiny little things is a sterotypically feminine pursuit, and the subject being tanks and guns or whatnot doesn't change the underlying skills being used. Some don't like that, but plenty do.
Here's my WIP pile; my wife's fit to tell me that she knows I'm just grinding through the Chaos Knights to get them done but that I really like the Marauder Giant, because she can tell which paintjob's being done with more care and attention.
>>
>>94834762
Thirding. My girlfriend isnt into nerd stuff at all but she likes my Warhammer, she appreciates the arts and crafts side of it (and thinks the art in the army books is sick). Being an artist herself she often gives me tips with regards to shading and colour mixing and whatnot. I even watch battle reports in her presence which she says she finds calming, like having a soap on in the background.

The stigma around Warhammer only exists if you yourself are an insecure beta faggot.

>It's a bit strange that death magic and necromancy are distinct though.
death/shyish magic IS technically necromancy as its spells allow the wizard to commune with dead spirits
it's not ultraevil necromancy because it doesn't involve enslaving souls to your will and raising undead, they could do that but it's taboo in their order
all other winds of magic probably have a similarly extreme version that's mixed with dark magic and achieves their taboos
>dark azyr: tzeentch-like forceful rewriting of fate
>dark ghyran: nurgle-like swarm magic
>dark ghur: actual mutations and beastmen
>dark aqshy: letting oneself become a living meltdown wizard
>dark chamon: using living beings in alchemical exchanges and creating artificial life
>dark ulgu: straight up mind control
>dark hysh: magical intelligences reaching singularity and forming a hive mind with wizards? I'm grasping at straws here

no middenheim doesn't make much sense if you stop and think about how much food must go through those causeways every day just to feed the city, doesn't help that the city it is rather inconsistently portrayed sometimes it's on top of plateau sometimes it's the side of a mountain
>>
>>94834954
It would just result in a huge market sprawl popping up outside the city.
>>
>>94834814
You can use lots of core if you want, the fact is that even for core there are better options for each faction than what the battalion boxes give you. For HElves you have Silver Helms, Ellyrian Reavers and Lothern Sea Guard as core to compete against regular spearmen and archers.
>>
>>94834964
you would still need porters to transport it back up the mountain, those Causeways are miles long and merchants in the city would probably depend on the graf import a severe hike in taxes for people selling goods alongside the causeway without a licence or something
>>
>>94834954
Middenheim has some kind of rope elevator system and even ropeway that is used to transport goods and people actually.
>>
>>94834978
It would be hell either way.

>>94834981
Unlikely that a rope elevator can handle the necessary logistics to feed what, 30k people? Nevermind actually providing any other goods to them.
>>
>>94834988
You are forgetting that there are also mages that can teleport shit into the city and levitate huge loadouts.

Thats not the question, the question how much of a herculean task it would be to get functional logistics to a place like that means everything would be twice as expensive as in Altdorf for example, which basically explains why Altdorf is a metropolis and Middenheim is a salty rock full of bitter Magnates.
>>
>>94835033
Since Empire is in anarchy, many things just flow by under the radar or are deliberately overlooked. But I really doubt there are many necromancers in cities where templar knights or witchhunters have their headquarters. On the other hands, "enlightened" cities like Nuln probably allow them to pratice - for the same reason Sweden allows mass immigration.
>>
>>94835021

>>
>>94835050
Nuln along with Altdorf irconically seems to be one of the few cities in the Empire that doesn't have some form of magic school at this point, Middenheim, Talabheim, and even Marianburg(going by the AJ) all have places where people learn magic in them during TOW time period
>>
>>94835054
NZ had them 12 hours ago so you should have had the chance to ordered them earlier as well
>>
>>94835050
Nuln is the homebase of Morrs fanboys, I doubt they would appreciate Necromancers.

It's more likely a Necromancer slinks around in Marienburg or Ostland where people got bigger trouble or characters of all sorts frequent anyhow.
>>
>>94835061
isn't Morr cult based in Luccini a Tilean city?
>>
>>94835044
Middenheim is a capital and provides security. Money, food and other goods naturally flow to it, either as taxes or just import. Sure, there will be things that will be more expensive than in Altdorf - but that's normal. Prices do differ between the cities, otherwise trade for profit wouldn't be possible. Plus I'm pretty sure there are mines in Faushlag, where middenheimers (dwarfs mostly) dig out gold, metal and precious stones.
>>
>>94835060

Yes, but it's also suggested that dwarfs still mine stuff there and because of that they keep the cadre of tunnel warriors. Plus it's different age, hundreds of years before Karl Franz, skaven are busy fighting each other, chaos is in the process of chosing new champion etc.

>>94835033
A few main reasons reasons
>Magic's illegal anyway and people most people don't see the difference between hedge magic and dark magic anyway. People are either going to kill you for being a witch or look the other way if they need magic help
>Necromancy in old world refers to any use of death magic, including the completely normal use of Shyish, basically some of the Necromancers are effectively just amethyst wizards
>A lot of wizards think they're priests using divine magic, so there's probably a few of these Necromancers who both view themselves and are viewed by the populace as Priests of Morr
>>

These >>94834870 are IoB clan rats.
>>
>>94835082
But there's University of Nuln - and in such places there's more intelectual freedom than elsewhere - and I can totally imagine that there's a bunch of necromancers studying dark arts under the protective wings of the university in the name of knowledge, scientific freedom and other ideals such as those.
>>
>>94834933
>IoB re-re-release.
they have no reason to bring back IoB for the skaven side, skaven already had a multi kit for the clanrats on that style, so no need of the etb ones, and they don't really need to bring back the rat ogres since TOW revels in groggery of the old plastic sculpts and they may as well offer the even older metal ones
the only real loss from not using IoB would be the mortar weapon team, but that's one small unit that the skaven range has lived without and can live without

No they are not. Old IoB-era Clanrats got updated with the Skaventide release last year. All you have to do is to check the GW store.
>>94835225
>they have no reason to bring back IoB for the skaven side
Yes they have. It would be a good way of introducing a cheap 2-player set with next to not cost on GW side since IoB moulds paid themselves 120 times already.
>>
>>94835355
>It would be a good way of introducing a cheap 2-player set
which they evidently don't want to do compared to army sets meant for one army where they also sell you moulds that have paid themselves 240 times over and at an inferior overall discount
>>
>>94835351
it'd be hilarious if HE got delayed twice because of the resculpted ellyrian reavers
>>
>>94835351
I doubt it, they don't do things logically like that at GW, if one thing gets delayed they just push everything back even though it would probably be easier to just swap round release dates. Like when Imperialis got delayed they didn't swap its release with Old World they just pushed Old World back.

Yeah I really don't understand
>>
>>94835508
the island of blood ones were locked in the island of blood sprues

taking them out requires a new mould, and since they're doing that might as well add extra poses and the full command group, which is what they did
>>
>>94835508
Weren't the IoB reavers only five miniatures with no command?
That might be why they did so they could include those in a box
they did the same to the Swordmasters
>>
>>94835522
the different colour scheme might be tricking people on the actual amount of differences
>>
>>94835543
also GW saying they were completely resculpted as well
>>
>>94833961
Slight contradiction; each colour is Superior to it's anticlockwise partner, and Inferior to its clockwise. IIRC there used to be dispel bonuses and penalties accordingly, and I think in Man O War the magic became its own little minigame of only being able to dispel magic cards with the appropriate colour; I am probably misremembering here though, likely it was similar dice roll adjustments. High and Dark were weird as I think they were simultaneously superior and inferior to all the others but I can't recall how that played out in-game.
>>
>>94835522
They did have full command but yes, it was only 5 monopose miniatures
>>
>>94835522
>swordmasters
I didn't see that in the first time, seems like there's an alternate banner, trumpet and champion's weapon. That's neat
>>

The new ones seem to have less detail. At least in the heads. But the legs make it look like the rider and horse are still a single piece and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of pose variation to them
Idk, feels like they could have made a couple extra guys and just packed them with the IoB ones instead of remaking the unit like they've done with the swordmasters

Yeah I'd argue the Shyish mages who don't go deep into dark magic/necro have favourable relations with the Morr cult. I'd say this is implied given that the Knightly Orders AoI the Knights of Morr (along with Blazing Sun) can include mages in their army.
So while the Sigmarites and Ulricans don't like Magic, the fact the Empire is divided means there's no single authority that can relaibly string all the mages up, so you have areas more remote from Altdorf and Middenheim where mages have more leeway. We'd probably see something similar with the Taal/Rhya cult and Life/Beast mages in Talabecland. I'd argue Wissenland is also more liberal, partly because of proximity to Tilea where I don't know if there is a prejudice against magic, and also the Emperor who legalises and organised magic in the Empire (Magnus) comes from Nuln iirc.
>>
>>94835563
These are a pretty weird choice too. They made a new banner, music instrument and champion sword but they go on the same old command group?
It looks neat but it's kinda weird that they only did it for this one unit
>>
>>94835033
Guess it depends on multiple things

More on this point, when Teclis and his buddies when on their 'magic user scouting/hunting' through the Empire iirc they would leave alone the Priests who didn't know they were actually practicing magic, instead of pressganging them against their will. So there's clearly some precedent in the lore that some priests didn't know they were actually doing magic.
That's an interesting part of the Altdorf colleges, it sets down a man(elf)made ruling on how magic works and what magic actually is, but ultimately it's a simplification (a necessary one) of how the Helves use magic that's not going to be a perfect representation of how magic REALLY works. And owing to that, post the Altdorf colleges people probably got it in their head there was a sharp division between Magic and Divine influence because they're already conditioned to see Magic as falling in the prescribed colours.

I am 99% certain I am right about the Teclis scouting leaving alone miracle workers but I don't remember what book it's mentioned in.
>>
>>94835033
normal necromancy is consulting the dead, not controlling the dead
a necromancer would also be useful when dealing with ghosts to placate it or drive it away, which might be why this model has morr iconography: if you have necromantic talent and are not an asshole you do get further in touch with your god of the underworld
perhaps the religious institution of the cult of morr itself ended up sheltering the good ones

not sure about that, the east and the west are way less connected, navally speaking, than they were in real life
it's one thing for them to control the eastern sea, reach the southlands or lustria, it's another to reach the old world, especially with the high elves having an effective monopoly and the sour sea being so far from the old world and its seas

unless there's a convenient undersea route accessible in there or someone connected the sour sea to the blight river

most cities don't have chokepoints that go for literal miles on precarious heights with no railings or other safety features.
let's take Edinburgh as an example since a lot of the writers have taken that as an example of inspiration for Middenheim.
the Old Town of Edinburgh is mostly on the Castle Rock but its market was the Grassmarket and the Cowgate which is a lower valley this was the main area for trade due to ease of access to the rest of the city even though it was still in the wall(Flodden wall), Middenheim doesn't have a location like that

I'm don't understand your question, perhaps you are having a stroke.
I assume that you mean people should simply rebase their minis and play TOW. I suspect that if you sign up for a non-RnF game that requires 50-60 minis, then switching to a rank-and-file game that requires 100-150 models is hardly a tempting solution. Considering that most Warhammer players refuse to believe that for every GW game that exists there are at least 10 better alternatives, selling your collection and starting a new army or dropping the hobby altogether is a valid choice.

outside of the Stirland map or the map in Nights Dark Masters, and the original Blood in the Streets for WFB2e very few things cover that area in any detail so it's a rather forgotten part of the empire both in-universe and out it's stands to reason some cartographer would just forget that land is owned Stirland and assume it was owned by the Moot.
