Hello.

It’s a new year, with new shit happening, and I wanted to connect with /tg/ regarding the 1d6chan wiki.

There have been several major developments in the new Miraheze wiki, and for starters: we have expanded the mod team to eight. There’s me, I’m the Archwizard, then new person TimeTrx, who is the Dumpist, responsible for making site rips and backups. Below us are the six Wranglers, who are: Colonel Klink, Forever DM, Ow My Sanity, Saarlacfunkel, Ophiuchus and the new guy, Gilten.
The transition has worked as well as I had hoped, and I’m quite satisfied with the continuation of service. Right now, the more active moderators and users are focused on deleting seventeen years of cruft, like: images that aren’t linked to pages, redirects that are redundant or oversaturated, and WIP pages that haven’t seen any progress since the Noughties.

The site’s regular activity has levelled off, which is perfect, and we now regularly see upwards of four hundred edits per day.

The wiki pages that have seen the most traffic by far are the Tactics pages and the Space Marine Legions pages, at least for the past month or so.

Miraheze has been an excellent host, and hasn’t exerted any editorial control over us, and we intend to never give them a reason.

The Story, Campaign, Setting, and Project namespaces are up and running, so people can now feel free to add their homebrew whenever they want.

Anything people want to ask?
>>
>>94857110
>images that aren’t linked to pages
They fixed this? I could finally go back then. Images not loading was one of the biggest problems that made me stay away.
>>
>>94857161
No, I mean there were literally thousands of files on the database that weren't on any page. They were just there, taking up space and bandwidth on our backups, not linked nor ref'ed anywhere. Useless. Some people just used 1d4 as a file server.
>>
>>94857110
Did you put the removed content back in, or are you still moralfagging?
>Miraheze has been an excellent host, and hasn’t exerted any editorial control over us, and we intend to never give them a reason.
Oh, never mind.
>>
>>94857110
>Anything people want to ask?
Ever been to the Star Wars Wookiepedia? On some articles they have a legends and canon option.
If possible it would be nice to see if the website can have an "original 1d4chan version page" and a "post 1d4chan now 1d6chan version page" of the same articles.
Obviously with better naming conventions.
If possible could something like that happen?

Essentially the idea is for the old website data to be kept in tact for archival purposes (I know the internet archive exists) but also to allow for future edits to be made without damaging the old stuff. A sort of "meet in the middle" compromise if you will.

Lastly can there be a guideline page to writing articles with obvious rules stated on them like no personal information, no spamming, and no e-begging?
I haven't visited 1d4chan in a long time and so I never saw or recall such a page and it has been a while since I visited 1d6chan.

I don't recall fan theory essay autism articles being a thing for the wiki. Maybe that's covered under writefaggotry, but I never bothered writing one because I felt that it would either get deleted in the name of preserving the archive's authenticity and/or it would be posted in the wrong place.
>>
>>94857833
They probably understand that if they don't take some stuff out there is very good chance 1d4chan will get taken down. I get that people want all the stuff the original site had but sometimes you have to pick between not having everything and having nothing.
>>
>>94857874
Well now that you mention it that is true given how laws are more restricting these days than they were in the days of yore.

Could OP basically confirm this is the case, please?
>>
>>94857833
>Canon vs Legends
What? We didn't restart the /tg/ continuity, we just moved to a new host. It's fine. We aren't interested in splitting the worldlines.

>Guidelines
We have a rules page, and it covers things well.

>'Tism
We've had massive pages on topics since the Bush administration. There's nothing new there.

>>94857883
Laws? No, nothing of the kind. The largest wiki on our host is the Drawn Feet Archive, with the most trafficked being the Monster Girl Encyclopedia. We just don't want the community that hate pages, doxxing, and loli draw.
>>
>>94857177
Anything that'd get the attention of the feds or just random shit?
>>
>>94857969
Overwhelmingly just random shit. A lot of it MIGHT have been meant for some page or other but never tagged to the right page so they were just purged to clean up space.
>>
>>94857969
There was very little that was outright illegal, but I won't say there was nothing. There were also a few disturbing images of technically legal but not host-compatible loli which we deleted, and also a hundred images of Holo from Spice and Wolf naked because somebody wanted to recreate Gelbooru on our image server. Honestly, though, it wasn't a lot. There were over 46,000 images on the server, and we deleted a bit over 200. The vast majority of images weren't deleted when we moved.

Since then, our diligent new moderator, Gilten, has been looking through the list of unlinked images - that is, images that aren't on any pages in the whole wiki. If he finds one that has no immediately obvious page to be deposited on, he might delete it if nobody on the Discord has any particular use for it.
I do still have the original 1d4chan master image archive on a solid state drive in my place, so if it came to it, I could restore the images if I had to, but I haven't had to yet.
>>
>>94857996
>There was very little that was outright illegal
A better question would be what was actually illegal. As far as I'm aware the wiki never had any CSAM.
>>
What's the rubric for adding a new page to the wiki? As in stuff that wasn't in 1d4chan
>>
>>94857897
>What? We didn't restart the /tg/ continuity, we just moved to a new host. It's fine. We aren't interested in splitting the worldlines.
Sorry I must have botched my explanations.
I meant a pre-1d6 version of the more popular articles and a post-1d6 version of the articles.
But I did put some thought into it and I feel that the task may be too monumental with too many articles. Don't know how the Star Wars community did it with their wookiepedia article.
The whole reason I suggested such a change is just in case 2d4chan goes down or this site gets in hot water and the internet archive removes the 1d4chan archived pages.
>Laws? No, nothing of the kind.
Thanks for being transparent. I hate it when community representatives be they mods, admins, operators, or staff in general act so vague.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I'm probably not gonna try for an article at the moment, but I'll try my best to make sure it follows the rules if I ever decide to.

The 1d6chan discord jannies are open to guide a newcomer in properly linking pages to appropriate articles and categorizing them, yes?
I haven't been to the 1d6chan wiki, but I imagine that they might get a lot of those.
For this sort of thing is the golden rule just to have obvious well intentions to keep things organized?
>>
>>94858172
The Discord is packed with people who can help. Honestly, it's pretty self-explanatory.
>>
>>94858216

>Honestly, it's pretty self-explanatory.
The only reason I asked is because the website is from an old format and I fear my zoomer brain is too used to "userfriendly formats." But I'll try my best if I decide on being a wiki article writer in my spare time as there are just days where I don't want to paint my miniatures in my spare time.
>>
The problem with 1d4chan and its clones is that it's 90% Warhammer and 10% everything else. Even pages that have nothing to do with Warhammer reference Warhammer in some form. Of course /tg/ has the same problem but that doesn't make it not a problem.
>>
>>94858911

It was done by a group of people, anon, and a large one at that. I think it was a couple of dozen of people. No one really spoke out against it, they either did not care or they thought it didn't need to be there (especially due to where the servers are based which is in the UK where loli is actually illegal). If you're that concerned I am certain someone somewhere might be willing to share a copy of the OG archives if you actually take the time and effort to look but all you're doing is just boo-hooing over a fraction of a percent of the total number of images that were on a few pages being removed (many of which were removed before 1d4chan even went down because even root, the creator of 1d4chan, thought they didn't belong on the site but which were caught up in the archiving process).

>>

Guy running 1d4 gave up on maintaining it, but refused to hand over admin access to anybody else, some grifters smelled opportunity, cloned 1d4 into 1d6 (some with light censorship and revisionism) and put themsleves in charge.
>>
Whatever happened to the 'Post Cold War' page as part of the historical reference section? I'm sure it was an endless source of skub given it covered contemporary topics that are bitterly divisive, but if people want to run games set after the cold war and and are looking for interesting tips and advice on how the world has unfolded since the Soviet Union fell, there's nothing on there that can be used as a handy reference. Its removal also makes it feel like the cold war was the 'end of history', which is a load of bullshit. Much as some might like it to, the world didn't end in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell and we're not living in Fukuyama's utopia.

As one of the mods for the new site basically
>root, the owner of 1d4chan, never had any mods on the site and only one other admin

>root stopped maintaining it which led to a lot of edit wars
>finally got a 1d4chan server, root even joined but still refused to interact or do anything the vast majority of the time
>site goes down, people panic
>people scrape the site when it comes back up "just in case"
>site goes down again, a few mirrors go up but those close when the site goes back up
>1d4chan AGAIN goes down, this time for even longer
>people in the 1d4chan discord server finally say "fuck it, if root doesn't care then we'll handle it"
>make 1d6chan but remove unused files (not attached to any page, just kind of sitting there taking up space) and a few porn pics that even root had started deleting back when the site was up
>find a host for the server, it goes online
>post that the site is up, that it's effectively the same as 1d4chan but with a few pages locked (ones that always had edit wars going on) and some of the loli pics deleted (only the overtly pornagraphic ones) and some thing reworded but still present
>most people go "meh" some go "cool" and one anon constantly has absolute shitfit meltdowns because his precious loli porn was deleted
>>
>>94862242
1d4 is kill, there was a 2d4 for a while then it died, 1d6 was made and is hosted on a service that doesn't really fit well as a place to archive 4chan culture.
1d6 doesn't feel like a proper archive since they are willing to remove things. it doesn't matter if it was something unused or unpopular or redundant, changing or removing things makes it not an archive of the original anymore and just a clone that continues down a different path. So at this point there does not exist a online archive of 1d4, just a knock off.

root was a neglectful cunt, but the people in charge of 1d6 vary between simply incompetent, through bunch of pussies and ending with openly abusive faggots, that are trying to "show everyone their place", missing the memo they are running a repository and archive of old shit.
Which wouldn't be half bad if they actually had both the balls and will to enforce their wills, but it's a bunch of idea guys that start something and then abandon it after few initial steps, so everything looks like a construction site non-stop, except nobody is working.

The point is that 1d4 existed as an archive. And unless the host company explicitly asks about any kind of content being outside their policies, removing any part of the site is not just wrong, it's a sign of a truly stupid behavior - trying to please people that don't even register your existence. If the host company flags some content, then fine, go with it. But if they didn't and you still censor the page (while using the host as an excuse for it), you are a moron, plain and simple
>>
>>94863859
A wiki is not an archive, an archive is an archive.
>>
1d4chan/1d6chan were never supposed to be strictly archival. It's ludicrous to suggest otherwise; A) we already have Sup/tg/, and B) it's a *wiki*, which is specifically designed to be editable.

Pages of a certain age may go un-edited for years, which is fine, but it's not locked in amber. Also, aside from two pedos having a psychobilly freakout, nobody seems to have many questions, so we're good.
>>
>>94863916

>>
>>94863612
Always possible some schizo will just put it under a long term DDoS attack. Other than that you're probably right.
>>
>>94863980
The collective "we" as in the community. If you want an archive, it is right there. 1d6chan is a wiki. If you demand things be one way or the other, then join the discord or in the talk page of the article and (in a civilized manner) make your case but know that the loli porn is not coming back, but since you seem so concerned about other topics then you can argue for them on the discord or in the talk page.
>>
>>94863989
It's on Miraheze, so long-term DDoS is not really gonna work, while their page traffic is too low for anyone even noticing a day or two of disruption.
>>
>>94864053
There's no point in arguing with this dude. He uses the same rhetoric every thread he makes, hoping /tg/ has forgotten, and ignores when called out. Wasting your time.
>>
>>94863916
People are not saying they want a wiki as an archive of /tg/, they are saying they want an archive of 1d4chan as, even if it was a wiki, it served as a repository of /tg/'s culture and history in a way that thread archives do not replicate. That does not seem to be what you want to provide, but the use of 1d4chan's existing content and the timing of the creation of 1d6 had made people think that was what would be provided which is why people are unhappy with the current situation.
What many of the users of /tg/ would prefer would at this point be more of a 3d4chan, since 2d4 has already come and gone, that is simply the content of 1d4chan on the day it died without any further modifications whatsoever, and likely without the ability for anyone to make modifications to it and its pages while having a separate wiki that tries to keep up with new things. Basically one place for everything old to remain untouched, and a second place for new things and further development.

Several. Wayback has a fairly recent one, for instance. We got our own from a backup off of 2d4chan, which has since collapsed.

I feel like while no one really wants 1d4chan replaced, no one who was around back then actually cares enough to genuinely replace it. And really, who's the audience? A handful of bitter oldfags who want a little sip of nostalgia? There's a huge cultural disconnect that started in 2011 with you-know-who and only got worse in the decade+ to come.
>>
well this is just a whole lot of pointless bickering

Different guy. I don't support censoring 1d4chan's archive. I also don't think anyone actually really cares about it any more enough to truly restore it, because while no one wants some redditized copy, no one's stepping up to rebuild it in proper form, either.
>>94864382
It's amazing how brightly you glow. Where do you guys actually come from? GitP? RPGnet?
>>
>>94864397
It's twice as funny when you read the full, uncensored version. This thread is in reality close to a sage limit.
>>
>>94864451
I'm going to assume that you're a different anon than the manchild that's been throwing a temper tantrum about not being allowed to goon to CSAM:

Why not just readd it? It's a public wiki, you could just put the stuff back up right now. I'm looking at the discussion page, and unless you're complaining about the removal of trademarked material (the rules, which GW has sued people for hosting) I don't see any evidence to suggest that there's some massive purge, and even then the edit history goes back to 2008, so you could just migrate it from there, you wouldn't even have to go on archive.org or whatever.
>>
>>94864498
Why are you not replying to
>How do you know a third of it was cut? Do you have proof or are you just pulling this right out your ass?
>>
>>94864747
Why have you still not said what was removed? You keep saying that 1/3 of the Space Hulk content was removed.

What specifically was removed? How do you know content was removed, and how much? And if it is such a big deal that it was removed, why don't you host the content you care so much about yourself?

Seriously Anon, in ten months you could have found your own copy, built your own fucking server, and made your own 1d4chan knock off if it was that important to you to maintain it with no edits.
>>

I assume that you mean "mid-to-late-March of 2023" as nothing happened in the spring of 2024. The 2023-03-04 revision's only difference from the current one in the addition of one line of text and the fixing of links. So, I also checked the 2023-05-30 edit, and that just involved some changes to the Categories, not actual content changes. I checked every edit after that, and none of them remove anything. So I checked a bunch of stuff before that, and it's just 8 years or so of people arguing about whether or not Space Hulk is still playable and/or purchasable and how to do that. For about 8 years (late 2008 to 2016) the article was more or less the same. The article has been the same since 2016 in terms of content, it's just gained and lost backend formatting, images, and a random dropdown about Ork units in 40k (for whatever fucking reason).

So, when exactly did this take place? Because if anything, it's during 1d6chan's tenure that the article has actually gained content.
>>
>>94864391
Well, it's nice that even though we disagree, we can agree on "fuck that other guy."
>>
>>94864777
That's odd, not only does that post not say what you're claiming it does, but you also haven't said when this supposed heinous crime occurred.

Not him but you do know how to use a wiki right? You can check that sort of thing very easily.
>>
>>94864811
Sure I can. I can also see that there are no significant differences when comparing the revisions you showed, and what differences there are, lean towards the newer versions having significantly more content than the "classic" versions.

So again, what has been removed?

A few images, not half. Small price to pay for 99.5% of the site being preserved. You can find the loli stuff in a separate archive, big deal. I'd love to have 100.0% preserved but life is full of little compromises.

+1 RAGE, faggot

I'm not the guy arguing, I just picked two arbitrary revisions to take a screenshot of because I don't care about any 40k content either way. And if you are the one I replied to then why were you asking a question that you already know the answer to? You could have saved both yourself and the person you are arguing with time by not asking a pointless question.
>>
>>94865015
>why were you asking a question that you already know the answer to?
Because he hasn't told us what's been removed and when. See >>94864798. At no point was a third of the article deleted.
>>
>>94865015
I'm trying to find out exactly what the nerd raging Anon is sperging out about.
>>
>>94865080
That isn't a particularly good reason for including extra questions outside of what you actually want to know. Him not answering "what" doesn't connect to asking "how" when you already know the answer to "how".
>>

Troll
>>
>>94865116
You're acting like he's a 60-IQed retard. If that's the case, then this entire discussion is pointless and he's wrong for being a retard. He's spent fucking hours in this thread ranting and raving about some incident, but cannot provide any information about it when asked. So, he should either put up or shut up.

So you are upset that English copyrighted material got removed from a site that is hosted in England to keep the site from getting taken down?
>>
>>94865714
Yes, actually, clearly hosting it in England isn't adequate.
>>
>>94865733
So make your own server. That was always an option.
>>
>>94857110
Why does the Always Chaotic Evil page act like everyone turned against the concept? Only a few projecting tumblrina weirdos, who want all villains to be straight white christian men, get autistic if you suggest some fantasy species may be morally incompatible with humans

Hey now, that Xvart or Gibberling could have gone on to become a Cleric or Paladin!

My fucking sides.
Oh look, 15 minutes and the ban is no longer in effect, while you look even dumber than before, squatting over self-created ruin. Your powers don't even cover for "your" site, and you want to play ball on /tg/? Good luck with that
