>>94916774Anybody know if army painter has any plans to sell the paints in the blanche sets individually after a while? There's a single paint that I badly want from it but I'm not buying a 50 dollar kit for one bottle that I'd want to have multiple pots of
>>94916968Good question, I can't seem to find any mention. Given it is a branded set which involves some licensing it is unlikely they would be selling individually anytime soon if ever. Though that doesn't discount the possibility of them releasing the same paints under a different name in the future as part of their respective lines. Alternatively if they do start selling them individually it might only be via direct sale from them. Maybe just email them and ask them and report the results here.
>>94916968>>94917030They said on YouTube that they'll release them individually later in the year and that the Master Class series will be part of their regular range.
>>94916831>why wouldn't you? Most Space Marine heads are modeled in such a way that you can swap them out and interchange them within reason. Consequently, the part where the meets the armour at the neck is very accommodating on almost every model. You can easily paint the entire head separately - finish the whole thing - and just glue it in last. This makes it easy to paint the head very well without fear of getting the head paint on the rest of the body (especially for Blood Angels, where the helmet is frequently some other colour than red!). Conversely, you can paint the body without messing up the head. This becomes a bigger deal with Mk VIII and Mk X armour where the gorget extends further to protect the neck and progenoid gland.

My zombie that I've been using to experiment techniques and things while I paint the rest of the warband for the last month is done. There's a lot I could do better with him but I think he turned out pretty good.
Details will get cleaned up, but this is representative of the colors. Should I go with black bases drybrushed for urban rubble, or brown dirt bases?
>>94917437Probably browner so it is distinguished from the black boots .
can someone explain this color theory thing to me and why suddenly everything has to have some violet/purple accent color or whatever it is called in itthis has been going on for few years now i think

>>94917402Kino taste. Enjoy.>>94917437I would go with mud, that doesn't really look like urban rubble.>>94917479It's a meme except when it's not. Mixing in a complimentary color is a good way to shade an area, and having a triad color scheme will probably help you somewhat. It gets a little excessive where you see models where the shadow is a completely different color or stuff like that. A lot of those techniques were developed for 2d and look overcooked in 3d.
Skin is coming along well. I think I need to get some better references for ork faces though, it's not quite giving what I want yet.
>>94917076>especially for Blood Angels, where the helmet is frequently some other colour than redIt's funny this comes up because I was just working on some BA with minis from the Leviathan box. I didn't want to cut the heads, and I primed red, so painting the blue helmets was a bitch.Masking would have been the smart thing to do, but instead I went in with a brush and my most opaque blue. It looks decent but I'm not really happy with it.
>>94917479think it's more useful for undershading before speedpaints and the like so the filtering creates richer shadows
>>94917479It relates to how colours work together with other certain colours to be visually appealing. Conceptually it is a guide to help you know what spectrum of colours to use in a scheme so they don't clash, or you get the best contrast with etc. You don't need to worry about it too much for shadows if you are just using black since that is a neutral colour. The reason people might use a different colour in their shading is to compliment the scheme, or to try and give off specific lighting implications. Colour theory isn't something that is mandatory to know, but it is definitely helpful in the long run since it can help take the guess work out of what works with what when deciding on a scheme.
>>94917529personally I think the colored heads look dumb except for gold
>>94917479It became something of a meme but it does work most of the time. It's to be complimentary to a (usually) warm lighting color, and the basics being 'warm highlights, cool shadows. Cool highlights, warm shadows'. That's not always true, but it often works. Purple is a really dark value color so it's good for keeping some saturation while also darkening the shades areas.
Tragedy
>>94917076Sure, but then you have to be careful with priming, so you don't prime the connection points, which is more of a hassle.
some tiny knight
>>94917766He's just like me, fr fr
>>94917803no?just put putty on the point or scrape the primer off
>>94917479It's a real thing that been around forever. It's just had the surface level points memed to death by pseudo intellectuals. Basically yeah some colors work together. There's a lot of nuance to it, which is what usually gets lost by the pseuds.
>>94917803nta, honestly the fear is overblown. it's easy enough to stick a tiny ball of blue tack in there, but even if you prime the joints plastic cement will still hold a joint like that together, it'll just melt the paint. The head isn't some crazy load bearing joint, it's fine.
>>94917822That's already more hassle than being a bit careful when painting a helmet.
>>94917841not compared to trying to reach an eye with your brush when a marine's head pose has them staring to one side

Finally finished my Necromancer apart from basing. Had a go at NMM and it was a bit poopy, but wasn't a disaster. Hey guys, I am currently painting this guy and want him to have a grey shirt & pants, so I painted it so (Skavenblight Dinge by Citadel). However it looks like I did not even paint it at all, you'd think I just left it primed. Is there any way I can make it look better, like a shirt or make it pop more or is rhat the nature of grey clothes? I have 0 ideas how you'd paint that shirt at this point without getting paint on the belt & the jacket...Basically... Paint the rest of the model. See if the gray still bothers you. If it does, smash some dry brush onto the shirt, wash it, repeat until you're happy with it. Then repaint the belt (inside areas first!) and then the jacket.

>>94921558I never washed my plastic minis before priming, unless there was a lot of kitbashing involved and they were covered in dust and stuffnever had any issues whatsoever
>>94921834they'd probably need to be dusted off anyway since I assembled in the middle of winter
>>94921834Rattlecan will probably eat whatever was on the mini, but for less harsh primers they need washing. If you got Vallejo surface primer to stick without washing you're just a wizard.
>>94921567If you look it up that's on you, they're not flexing the price or showing they got it on sale.
>>94921834>>94921558You should clean the models regardless. Most of the time a spray can primer will cover whatever demolding agent is left. But you are paying someone monthly wage for some models, a little bit of soap and water wont kill you.
>>94921861I haven't been painting minis that long, but I've never washed any plastic minis, and have been brushing on Vallejo's surface primer without issue. Is it just when using an airbrush that I'll run into issues? As rattlecan primer doesn't seem to be an issue either.

Anyone got opinions on lacquer paint ranges? After trying Mr surfacer for priming I'm now considering swapping from acrylics for airbrushing. Currently looking at Tamiya LP, Ak real colour or Mr color.
>>94922085>tfw he doesn't want the meat sleeve>>94922169I wouldn't use lacquers without PPE, and I ain't doin that crap. The Tamiya acrylics are FANTASTIC for airbrushing though, I actually dislike airbrushing with any normal acrylics. You need to thin them prior to use, but the cleanup is night and day difference. I just run some iso through my brush and viola.
>>94922169Any of them.Seriously.You don't have the same issues with quality between ranges, or quality between individual paints and certain pigments. Every bottle of hobby lacquer paint you buy will just be good.

God damn, AoS, maybe just newer kits in general, their layering of details and parts is nice from a model detail standpoint, but they do it in such a way painting interior details is very difficult while also not being simple subassemblies because the 'subassembly' would be like half of a cape that's connected to an arm that also needs to be gap-filled when put on.

>>94922988>>94922750also just don't use enamels. They react badly with plastic anyway and make your models brittle and prone to breaking.

>>94923050This is a fudd lore that is more related to user error than enamels. I.e: retarded redditors using them as washes. Just make sure enamels are not pooling anywhere and get rid of any excess. These underworlds OGs are basically done, just missing a few highlights and I want to redo the weapon handle on the big hammer. I talked to a guy at the lgs about varnish, as this is the first time I've finished something I actually took time on and I don't want the paint to chip or get worn out from being handled during games. The whole topic was a bit more complicated than I realized, and I'm not sure if I want to do it now. Anyone care to share insights on the pros and cons of varnishing your minis?
>>94924137>>94924156>>94924105>>94924174Stupid question, but what happens if I spray properly thinned acrylics out of an airbrush at max psi, or at a PSI that is too high?
>>94926004>prosMakes them more durable safer to handle without paint coming off. >consIf you apply too much varnish in worse case scenario it clogs up detail. Also can affect the colors/tones of your miniature, for example desaturating slightly. Usually doesn't happen if you know what you're doing. Also just like with paint some varnish has a matte finish and some satin or gloss finish, most people tend to varnish matte, since especially gloss varnish makes the miniature shiny.
>>94926029It just blasts it and blows straight off the mini or away from the point of contact.

Asked in /40kg/ and figured I'd ask here as well.I've got the third edition version of Cadians (according to Lexicanum) and I want to paint the winged eagle a nice bone white. However whenever I try to do it, I get a chunky result. >>94926305Strip and paint again, sorry anon. >paint too thiccProbably just putting paint on too soon without bottom layer drying, so it tears and gets lumpy. Good colorings though, keep it up.
>>94926118>chunky bone paintEither you have actual chunks in the paint, you are putting it on to thickly, or you are not waiting long enough for the paint to dry. Thin your paint out on your palette and visually inspect it for aggregations, white or off white paint tends to do this (part of the chemistry). If it is, you need to make sure not to get any of those chunks on your brush.

>>94926847I use a magnifying glass for all my painting. It's just way easier to aim that way, and reduces eye strain from squinting at minis.

>>94926118What colour are you priming with?If I wanted to do a bone-y white, I'd paint the part white pr ivory first, and then go over it with Skeleton Horde Contrast Paint. If I felt it needed it, at the end, I might add some pure white highlights. This is the method I use to do purity seals. If your white is getting chunky... I might ask what white you're using, too. Citadel's White Scar is just plain awful; thinning like you would your other paints isn't going to help a whole lot, either. You'll get a better result from Reaper's Pure White or VMC Ivory.
Should i used purple wash on her stomach for stronger shading?

>>94929184The psychological damage I suffer every day from not having a cute anime gf who is very proud of the miniatures she paints is becoming unbearable.
>>94929157>>94929191>using grey primerHow's Rustoleum's flat gray primer? I am assuming it is not as idiot proof as the flat black primer. Referring to the one that isn't paint+primer. >>94929199>AP Fanatic matte white has been sold out at a nearby storeIt is sold out at my LGS while the Citadel and Vallejo model and game color whites are still sitting there completely stocked.
