I don't know why I'm playing with you if you are not going to let me play! His exact words before he scooped his cards up, retreated over to another table and proceeded to cry about it to his friends for the rest of the night. Last time I played at an lgs and with random people. I really don't understand the mindset of people in edh. If everyone gets "to play" then who wins? If I had let the grismold player "play" he would have won within a few rounds.
My friends constantly nope out of games because they don't run enough removal to deal with my board. They won't even play against my shitty control deck because they can't bother to run more than 1 single target artifact removal.
I want the game to be fun for the whole table

>>96444461>TQ Yeah did a tournament at a lgs a few towns over. Nothing special 5 dollar entry and winner got the promo darksteel colossus and a pack. Played in a pod with 2 tards, one was playing and upgraded Lathril and the other a way undertuned yuriko. I beat them both in a total of 6 turns over 2 games, yurikofag got assblasted and yelled he might as well set his 5 dollars on fire and refused to play against that deck again. Funny enough I won with worldfire in one of those games kek
Are there any decks you guys run where you just don't slot in board wipes? I have plenty of interaction in my deck, counter spells, single target creature removal, fight cards, enchantment hate, ect but I'm really tempted to slot out my single board wipe in Settle the Wreckage and instead put in a Tibalt's Trickery to try and nip issues in the bud that way and it seems kinda more fun to pilot since I know I don't have a catchup like Farewell so I really have to be smart on what to put down when
>>96444543nope even in creature heavy decks i usually still end up running 1 or 2 theres just way too many decks that vomit out their library in one turn for me not to
>>96444461>TQ: Have you ever made someone rage quit or just throw a fit at the table?Only in standard, never edh. Back in zendikar/alara type 2 I beat someone's $1200 jund pile with a monogreen nissa deck full of Nissa's chosen, nissa and eldrazi monument. The guy flipped out because he said his deck was designed to beat mine then he showed me all the cards he could have drawn that would have beat me. Then he bitched to himself while flipping through his deck and left the store even though it was only round 2.

Dude mentioned it in our group chat as soon as he got home, complaining about board wipes being nonsense that kill the vibe of the game, occasionally dropped a snide remark alluding to it over the next few weeks. Fag actually just wants to sit there playing solitaire filling up his board with do nothing synergy pieces until he digs out the one fucking card he has in his deck that actually lets him win and refuses to pack anywhere near enough interaction to defend his board or fuck with others. He rarely scoops but if you mess with his plan a few times during games he'll just shut down and stop bothering to try.>>96444543All that being said, if my deck is aggro and supposed to shit out a bunch of creatures I run little to no board wipes unless they're cost effective and asymmetrical. I've never ever been happy to pull a wipe in those decks and it's never actually helped me win when I can just flood my opponents with more creatures than they can block anyways. I do replace wipes with protection/spot removal in those decks instead though.

Brand new to Magic, bought the Explorers of the Deep Merfolk Precon and am looking to go to Friday night Magic at LGS this week. Cards are in sleeves, I have a plain black play mat and some d6 I think to use for +1/+1 counters. Done some gold fishing to get used to the deck and play and know the basics from Arena. What else do I need to bring with me?
>>96444525This is how I find out Koma can tap lands, I've never thought of doing something so evil.
>>96444461Yeah, though only once or twice. The only time that stands out was with a guy playing 3Dog. I attacked him twice after he got Authority of the Consuls out on a table with everyone playing something that wants to attack. I swung at him twice with my Coram over the course of two turns for a total of five damage, the mills were bad, and he got frustrated and just scooped claiming he was being targeted unfairly. No one removed any of this things and I only swung at him with Coram. His life total was still well over his starting life even after I attacked him.
Bracket 1: GBracket 2: PGBracket 3: PG-13Bracket 4: RBracket 5: NC-17
>>96445030Aeve as he allows you to play on of my favorite cards
>>96445081You've got a deck, a mat, dice for counters which you will likely need in that precon, and you know the starters of what you are doing. You should be fine. Just let the people you're playing with know you're new and you'll be fine.
>>96445124That implies there's something risque and fun to see at CEDH tables beyond fat guy ass cracks
>>96445081That's more than most regulars I see bring. Because you're playing merfolk counters, bring a few more d6 than you think you'll need, cuz that shit gets out of hand very fast. >>96445158It means Bracket 1 is for literal children and bracket 4 and 5 are for adults.
>>96445158No, it (accurately) implies that the bracket 5 table will call you a slur.
>>96445173
>>96445072I can't see any world where anything past like 6 is needed even in the most battlecruiser of battlecruiser decks
>>96444887I used to play rocks in pretty much every deck but I've been changing up how much ramp I include quite a bit and honestly, unless they're absolute bangers, I don't include much ramp anymore let alone rocks. The average curve of good creatures has fallen by damn near 2-3 points over the last 10 years, a 2.00-3.99 curve isn't just for aggro decks anymore. The need to have 11+ sources in each deck no longer exists unless you're a mega degenerate playing good stuff, and nothing feels worse top decking some shitty rock turn 5+ when you (should) have all the mana you need to play anything in your deck anyways. Mana rock design has languished because they refused to make cards that are unequivocally for Commander only, so we've been stuck with mediocre 3 mana rocks as new design for years because 1-2cmc good mana rocks would fuck with other formats, but the Soul Stone broke the streak so we might start seeing more rocks worth playing again soon, but as is they're mostly just wastes of space in 90% of decks and could be mostly removed with proper deck building.
>>96444543I usually try to run a max of two. I've found that specific targeted removal at the right time can hurt a board just enough to take someone out usually and it doesn't come with it the same ire that a board wipe may from the whole table.

>>96446732Fun fact:Youre retarded because AC wasn't even designed that way. It was made, then last minute it became a small set. So no they were very much so not designed with the same mindset. Literally the exact opposite it would seem.

>>96446628Is this the only card that removes shroud?
>>96446729IIRC all the old gods besides hazoret are completely dead. I guess you could have lazotep versions of the bolas gods, but they will probably just give us more new ones.It feels like they didn't really know what to do on a proper return to amonkhet, so they just shoved the rough draft into aetherdrift.
>>96446792No im not saying that at all nor is that shown anywhere anon.
>>96446822If you're saying the set was originally not even going to be a booster-supported set, then yes it is similar to Spiderman in that way.Companies being afraid to release a small, well-designed product is why we're ending up with so many 3+ hour movies. At least some of those movies make money though, while Assassin's Creed is still languishing on the shelves of my LGSes while every other UB product sold out.
>>96446493>Neither fully revealed so we can discount thatthe revealed stuff already is obscenely underwhelming and mostly just "remember mechanic? now this time painted slightly green!", so we can discount these sets alreadyplus they are extremly scalped already, so fuck that shit
>>96446859Actually, minor correction: all of the Dr. Who decks besides Timey Wimey are also languishing on the shelves.
>>96446859What im saying isnt confusing there is no question about it. Stop being retarded.
>>96446724while picrels effect is very straighforward and relatively harmless, we now have about 11 effects like this

>>96446748you know that other formats exist, right?these things are a limited staple, and as far as removal goes, as fair as it could possibly get. complaining about this is the most braindead thing ive read in a while.

>>96447106>2 or 3 good cards among a gigantic pile of mediocrityYeah cool argument
Avatar cards spoiled so far are not good at all. It's all magical christmasland bullshit that is only good in casual edh but horrible in any competitive environment

>>96447160No, I'm a spikey player and the cards all seem super finnicky and hard to make work. Airbending is bad blink, firebending is narrow, etc. You need to have firebending for X with exactly the right payoffs at the right time and be able to profitably attack Aang seems like he would be a good commander in a deck with a lot of bending but only because he draws a million cards but he wouldn't transform very often. I'd say Toph is an exception. Her effect seems both strong and unique.

>>96447339Yeah she’s interesting because of her unique and powerful effect, you are right lol
>>96447335>>96447347Neither of the EOE precons are that impressive. Id put them on the same level as the tyranid one
>>96447350>powerful
>>96447355Making an artifact immune to removal and doubling up on any ETB/LTBs it has is indeed powerful.
>>96447355There’s like a billion combos you can do with this. Making things into lands is an inherently powerful effect. Even the simplest stuff like making each land a basic forest or swamp in addition to its other types would be powerful with Toph’s ability. So yeah ignore the stuff about creature and earthbending or whatever, you make infinite mana and kill your opponent(s) immediately after playing Toph
>>96447355>Not only your lands, but also your artifacts you build your deck around trigger landfall stupidity yeah, you are fucking stupid

>>96447447Yes, objectively so. I’m said I’m a spikey player and being better at winning the game is what makes a card strong. The fact that competitive commander is so unfun is one of the reasons the format is garbage, but that’s what a strong card is by definition
>>96446909could make a whole deck outta these!
>>96446934This. it's all KOS or lose anyway at this point so no point crying over another one that they can't even fit in the deck.
If you were to start playing right now, what are staple cards you would buy right away?Besides obvious stuff like uncommon mana rocks of course.
>>96447456Don't feed the shitbaiter, but Toph not having blue is putting big breaks on her as a commander design - not that I think blue would fit her personality whatsoever. I still think in Naya there is enough bullshit going in to make her a monster in casual, possibly even cEDH
>>96447456Toph landfall seems like one of those decks that folds to commander removalWhat are a bunch of cheap artifacts going to do if Toph gets Yue'd? What will your landfall pieces do when your artifacts aren't lands?

Artifacts have always been the most degenerate card type. The more you’ve played formats like Legacy or Vintage the more you know how easily they break the game Colorless artifacts were a mistake

Because he played rhystic on turn 3, so I destroyed it and that was the only other valid target. also, it's a fungus meme deck, I have a few bangers in it because I don't play green often. That's two strikes, so now whenever I play with this guy, I have to pull out a 4
>>96447583NTA but Wizards actually said they created colored artifacts because being colorless was too powerful for many artifacts they wanted to print. Mana is the way cards are balanced in magic, which is why multicolor cards are allowed to be more powerful for the same mana cost. We're 3-4 years out from a 2 mana Teferi's protection.
>>96447620oh nevermind apparently I dimension hopped from one where I distinctly remember there being an article where it happened and I was mad that roiling vortex no longer punished freecast bullshit and I sold 'em to some spike later
>>96447631We're talking about a Toph landfall deck, which uses artifacts for landfall triggers. Artifacts landfall is just garbage like eggs, myr battlesphere, or treasure spam. Without Toph around, those cards are a waste of space, and toph herself has no direct value, she just allows one half of your deck to function with the other half at all. You're better off playing a real landfall commander, like omn4th, and only using powerful landfall cards while also having a value engine in the command zone.

Mono red decks are boring because it's literally the same 150 or so cards recycled over and over again.
>>96450666Mono red was the most annoying for me to build because its card draw fuckin blows. I hate impulse draw so much and there's not a lot of other draw sources
>>96450666>>96450641Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It'll be the last color of the 5 I'll build for. >>96450666To be fairThe list I posted was a shoebox deck so it was always going to be a pile of generic cards

>>96450662Yeah, he's probably a tard grandpa from Missouri who posts on online MLB Facebook groups. First of all, fuck baseball because it's gay and boring af. We're a city of shameless bandwagoners and if the Angels suddenly started being good and the Dodgers became shit, all the hard-core Dodgers fans you see everywhere now would shamelessly switch to being Angels fans.
>>96450721This but unironically

pic related is criminally underplayed. I love it in Nelly, because I get to pick what stays and just choose to keep all the Suspected and Goated shit alive. Gets around protection too and punishes mana rock believers by letting them keep their shitty signet over their One Rings or Mystic Forges.
>>96450794it should say land, battle, and tribal too
>>96450761I don't really care or blame people, just telling you what I observe. Where as New Yorkers are gay fags loyal to their little boroughs and neighborhoods and sports ball teams, in LA we're shameless glory chasers and if the team is successful and branded as "LA", people will flock to them, and they'll abandon that team as soon as they turn bad. It happens with the Lakers and Clippers too, and USC and UCLA.
>>96450794Agreed, I was super hyped for it when it came out and it turned out just as good as I thought. Same with evolutionary leap, I actually really liked origins as a set.
Is a deck that runs IsoRev combo+ brain freeze and polymorph with the only targets being Tidespout Tyrant and Hullbreaker Horror bracket 3 and above by default or it it possible to be bracket 2? IsoRev requires several pieces to work and generally doesn't come down early.
>>96450834Which do you feel? Brackets are partly feel based
>>96450834Seems vulnerable enough to be bracket 3 but if it dominates consistently its probably better off in 4. Polymorph for one of two targets is definitely a borderline deck-building idea.

>>96452157Out of curiosity why the dorks if your average cmc is so high? Wouldn't you be better served by something less vulnerable or more impactful?
>>96447117Yeah completely turning off counters and stifles for 2 mana is fucking brain dead asshole design when rdw and inset are running over everything. That and the fucking cast spell get mana guy.

>>96452459Possibly. I have had Nature's Lore and Three Visits in those spots before. I'm only running 3 dorks and they're solid ones but maybe rampant growth and cultivate would be better.

>>96452483He has a cool name and was a card I loved when I first started the game, and he reminded me of Trogdor the Burninator so I tried to make him work but he just isn't that good. Being able to see opponents hands is OK, but 3 mana+ attack damage, it's too expensive and hardly even worth it. Still, respect for going with such a based commander even though he's not very good. I used to think Vaevictis was jank too but he's a solid late game beanstalk, and people underrate him, he's won me a ton of games since I switched him in as commander and I like that he's an OG elder dragon.

How many decks do you softcocks have in the works at the moment?>Vorsh, The HunterRebuilding my super strong control deck with tons of ramp and consistency thanks to all the tutor and draw options in UBG. Watching a member of the RC say Mana Drain isn't good because it "only" makes 3 mana on average.

>>96453372>According to Plutarch, the 300 hand-picked men were chosen by Gorgidas purely for ability and merit, regardless of social class.[20] It was composed of 150 male couples,[1] each pair consisting of an older erastes (ἐραστής, 'lover') and a younger eromenos (ἐρώμενος, 'beloved').[21] Athenaeus of Naucratis also records the Sacred Band as being composed of "lovers and their favorites, thus indicating the dignity of the god Eros in that they embrace a glorious death in preference to a dishonorable and reprehensible life",[11] while Polyaenus describes the Sacred Band as being composed of men "devoted to each other by mutual obligations of love".[9] The origin of the "sacred" appellation of the Sacred Band is unexplained by Dinarchus and other historians. But Plutarch claims that it was due to an exchange of sacred vows between lover and beloved at the shrine of Iolaus (one of the lovers of Heracles) at Thebes. He also tangentially mentions Plato's characterization of the lover as a "friend inspired of God".[20][21]Even the #1 Greek hero Herakles was a homo

>>96453384I say dragons are real and are all gay men. All my sources for this are passages from books I know you're not going to read anyway.
>>96453379>roach jewtuber copevs>reading the primary sources yourself and seeing how rampant bisexuality was the norm for ancient Greek menlol, lmao evenNow, I'm not saying they were all fruity faggots prancing around dressed in women's clothing (Achilles was though), they were more of the "enjoying the company of other men" type of gay.
>>96453452In ancient Greece it wasn't considered gay if you were the one doing the buttfucking, it was only gay if you're the butt getting fucked. And no matter how you try and spin things, Achilles was an extremely flamboyant cross dressing faggot who fucked his younger male cousin.
>>96453497Only in the modern day have we invented entire Olympic events to justify what is and isn't gay. The Greeks on the other hand just invented Olympic events where they just ran naked covered in oil and didn't give a shit about such stupid things.Really the only gay shit (derogatory) going on here is people not talking about the fucking card game. >>96453807all will be one+quest for pure flame
I want an old stickfingers but he puts all the revealed cards into the graveyard
>>96453872propably something with an immediate etb effect. it deters removal since you can then recast the commander and get the enters trigger again. if you want to stay on lotr cards or amass, the 8 mana sauron is a choicethat or the commander has to have some kind of protection. anything that just wants to sit there without it is doomed to die. it's like daring the other players to let you untap, they won'tthe cheaper sauron has ward but is even more KOS so I wouldn't recommend him unless you want to play 3v1 which I gather you didn't.
Baking.
