I'm the guy who made this cyoa. I'm working on a much more complex cyoa where you choose 5 abilities out of 100 or so potential abilities to make a character. What archtypes do you want to make sure are in the game? Think in gameplay terms, like "Evasion Tank", "1HKO sniper" or "Monster-Summoner".
>>96462834Can I roll? The alternative is that I need to read through 100 abilities and I might lack the will to do so.>"Evasion Tank", "1HKO sniper"Fuck no, video game terminology is a mood killer. Nothing wrong with the idea, just rephrase it.>"Monster-Summoner"Too broad, surely many interesting options come from association with different kinds of monsters (demons, elementals, angels)
>>96462834I want to see, I want never to be seen, and I want to live foreverA trap guy would be cool, but the traps should be magic, and magical laws and geas's are cool
>>96462848>Fuck no, video game terminology is a mood killer. Nothing wrong with the idea, just rephrase it.I don't mean that the cyoa will use videogame terminology, I just mean use it here so I understand what you want.
>>96462855>traps should be magicTake the landmine pill.
>>96462834Character creators in vacuum leave me cold, so I'd want a setting, but I guess that's not what you're going for
>>96462858But anon, all snipers are 1hko snipers, and evasion tanks cannot exist as evasion runs counter to blockingOutside of gamified systems these words are meaningless
>>96462848>>96462855How about I list the basic categories. Is there anything I'm missing?>Melee combat abilities>Ranged combat abilities>Tank abilities>Stealth/Ambush abilities>Mobility abilities>Building abilities>Transformation abilities>Summoning abilities>Status-effect abilities>Support abilitiesI'm working on about ten of each.
>>96462874>evasion tanks cannot exist Have you never played an MMO?
>>96462897You mean a video game?Yes, I have played video gamesI have also been outsideYou can't dodge a ranged projectile on someone else's behalf
>>96462834Healing of othersAbility to somehow readily distinguish good men from bad, be that soulsight, mindreading, etc.Flight, whether winged or unassistedCharisma, and/or attractivenessCombat ability that lends itself to disabling rather than killingIn general I hope it's not purely combat-oriented, it's good to flesh out that one has a certain capacity for attack or self-defense, but when it feels like you're just designing someone to fight in an arena it's a drag and almost inevitably becomes video-gamey.>>96462677Hell if I know, I don't entirely get the appeal. Maybe having the big opponents fleshed out so people want to take them down.
>>96462905>I have also been outsideYou can't dodge a ranged projectile on someone else's behalfDraw aggro and the enemies that are shooting at you won't be shooting at your friends, same concept with any other type of tank.
>>96462923>Distinguish good from badThis sort of dnd bullshit should never happenIt makes everything outside of combat meaningless
>>96462923>I hope it's not purely combat-oriented, it's good to flesh out that one has a certain capacity for attack or self-defense, but when it feels like you're just designing someone to fight in an arena it's a drag and almost inevitably becomes video-gameyThanks for the feedback, I'll make sure to add some non-combat abilities.
>>96462935Anon what the fuck are you saying
>>96462935NTA but then it's more of a mind control ability? So mind control + evasion? I think you can just keep them separate.
>>96462943>>96462951The ability to draw aggro has been a staple of RPGs since the 90s.https://torment.fandom.com/wiki/Litany_of_Curses
>>96462968Note how this ability does not increase his evasion rate. I'm not seeing a reason to combine mind control with evasion, is what I'm saying. The player can do that themselves.
>>96462974>Note how this ability does not increase his evasion rateIt decreases your enemy's hit rate.
>>96462968YES ANONWITHIN VIDEO GAMES EVASION TANKS ARE REAL
>>96462834I'd like to see attrition, either healing or damage-over-time. Best of luck on your work.
>>96462991That's different imo;"I affect the enemy's mind, so he becomes enraged at me (and due to his anger he will also be less composed and accurate)" is fine, but "I affect the enemy's mind, so he becomes enraged at me, and COMPLETELY SEPARATELY FROM ALL THAT I'm also always good at dodging in general" feels like a videogamey mold
>>96462834>SummoningEspecially if one option has preparing the specific individual summons beforehand, I really like that type of limitation.>Stacking status effectsEasily portrayed as curses or something similar. By this I mean weaker but longer-duration debuffs that are meant to be applied repeatedly to the same target. It plays hard into the limitations and strengths of debuffs in general.>Status effect removalPretty obvious.
>>96462993An evasion tank can1) Dodge enemy attacks2) Compel enemies to attack them instead of their friendsI don't see what upsets you about this archtype.
>>96463064You have autismI am telling you that the term evasion tank does not make sense outside of the context of a video-gamey systemI have no doubts that evasion tanks are things in video games. I have played video games with evasion tanks in them, and even used them myself

>>96459503>Sand Wizard>Sexy Lich>Transport WizardSand Magic! Being able to just build enourmous structures out of sandstone and glass sounds cool. But it also just appeals to me on a fundamental level, and not just because of my cringe tween Naruto phase where I thought Gaara was the coolest shit ever.Though Gaara could do things like sand clones and sand eyes, and I see no reason why 'all the sand magic' shouldn't cover that sort of shit. Sand magic covers defense well, and sand magic is also glass magic which sounds fucking terrifying as an attack.Next lich is an obvious choice for immortality. At that point though im basically a mummy cosplayer. From there deciding between transport and demiplanes was the issue. Worldhopping is a big deal and hiding my phylactery in a pocket dimension sounds neat, but flying around in a giant pyramid like Stargate sounds fun too. I'm more a 'find a nice fantasy world and settle down as their benevolent god king type' so im sure i can find another wizard who is willing to give me a lift.I think I'd like to use sand magic to build a giant glass underwater wizard city and transport magic gates to let people in and out.

Will become a partial undead by giving my Drakonid side Undeath to help improve my connection with undeath and nightmare. The growing nightmare is an issue so I’ll help reduce it by coming up with a method to infuse nightmare into my eggs, which are hundreds at a time and cultivating unique monstrous broods with them. Due to thoroughbreeding they should be quite powerful. Using the perverse remnants of True Dragons corruption in such a way is a rather ironic way to deal with it that certainly will not cause any major disasters in the future. Rhucuphre chan is honestly just misunderstood so I’ll help her tap into the three pillars and transcend.I should be able to avoid any manner of detection afterwards with my own abilities hiding me well and my ascended Rhucuphre helping me from on high, leaving me free to do as I please. As long as other Tiders don’t bother me too much, I am content to experiment and slowly work towards my ultimate goal of rebirthing JNPL through a mass infusion of the entire Old Throne nightmare into a huge egg assimilated from several clutches and fused as one, I will probably need to sneak in and steal blood off her defaced Pillar to do so.If anyone wants to lend their Thoroughbreeding genes to the cause that would be great.

>>96465866>Potential to create a comfortable life if you don't want to join in the warThat's absolutely a trap option. The only argument for why you can hope for this in OR (singleplayer) is that you're the one writing the story. Now that's an infinitely strong argument, in some sense, but also besides the point - everything's clearly set up for Charlie invading Doria sometime within the next few decades, and probably wrapping it up in way less than the 100 years it takes for 12th outsider to arrive. Humilitas is a lie

In Peil's Space Hell, you can try to settle down and live a comfortable life for 30 seconds before someone blasts your brains out and takes your stuff - but since you're not mindcontrolled into not doing that, it can be said "you had a choice". But that's not what the sentence would normally be understood to mean.

>>96466016Something I see rarely considered is how important the choice of race is for [JNPL] mother builds. Whatever race you choose will be commended/demonised as the chosen people of the chief Elder Goddess of the world. The societal consequences of such choice are extremely far ranging. It could lead to wars, genocides, a jew-like ethnic religion sprouting or even people joining the Eucumene because they felt betrayed by [JNPL] for choosing their enemies over them. >>96461391If undeath is the state of being too attached to the world to let go when your story ends, and empyreality is the state of being so separated from the world that destruction of the physical is meaningless, undead empyreality must be a state where one is not a part of the world but refuses to let it go anyways. The obvious analogy, then, is a member of the audience who, for whatever reason, cannot move on after a story ends. They keep re-reading the same book over and over again until they no longer find joy in it, in vain hope that it can return them to a past that is past. From the point of view of the world, the empyrean becomes trapped in a dream of their own making, no longer able to interact with the world but also unable to leave it and begin anew.

My build doesn't mesh thematically with Icon of Icons. I do have enough points to take it. Am I a sellout if I take it, or a wuss if I don't?
>>96467820You don't need a second death slot to add Zhivete, which has the same wording as the "Special:" section. It's just an additional encounter that you can take on a mentor who also has a primary one.
>>96467831If your build doesn't mesh thematically from it, you're not going to benefit from it. Icon of Icons is for rulers or friendmakers, if you're not going to rule and you don't want to make friends it's a waste of points.

>>96467820It's just an "add on", so far as I can tell. It says it's supposed to be added as a a second encounter. It doesn't say you only get one encounter per companion/mentor, it says you need to pick one for each.

>>96468255General gist of it is: If I as a regular person decide to do good, I do so for reasons. I get gratification, or social standing, admiration, whatever. It is impossible to do good for good itself without being aware of these positive byfactors, and therefor it is impossible to do a good deed. This usually trips people up in philosophy 101 and is heavily drenched in christian or at least platonic thought. This is in ethics though. If you mess around with neurobiology a bit and then export it to all social relationships (the very basis of human life so I am not saying those are bad), you may conclude that it's all transactional and therefor that friendship "for friendships sake" is not a platonic ideal either, it is transactional and thus if you have more to give (ie power) others will see it and cannot ever be said to have ignored it in their choice of friends. True friendship in the romantic sense isn't real, though much desirable. Just like all other good things in life.Hope that clears it up

Much of friendship-related behavior can be described as habitual or instinctive; if you really want you might formulate some "transactions" there but it's rather contrived; you'll be nearing the point where one billiard ball bouncing off another is "transactional", or maybe Sun and Earth orbiting are "transactional"? It seems to me there's merely a cultural convention of describing interactions between pieces of biological machinery as "transactional" but not interactions between billiard balls or Earth and Sun, and this distinction doesn't demonstrate anything of substance.

>>96470579You would need a deep understanding to do so. So either knowing the meaning of the spell the majin is made with or knowing about Drakonids in depth. Majin are probably easier due to Daemonhunt knowledge.
>>96470584Agree with that, counting on untimeskipped mentor Dei and Maou to start with some broad daemonhost and Majin Letter knowledge from birth, Eirina as a mentor and contact for that daemonhunt knowledge, Jisilbert for deeper perspective on the Godscript in general, and Eirina for the potential of adding numbers for extra esoteric abilities. Was pondering over Kashtanka, but I neither have the points nor do I think she'd help much with racial Inborn Gifts anyway.
Protip for daemonhost Outsiders for a maneuveur I didn't manage to fit in myself: get mentor Tenyota and Omega as a companion, Omega has the same Inborn Gifts as Charlie so Icon of Icons, convince her to turn it into a discipline and you now have the broken combo of daemonhost and Icon of Icons-lite to turn the world into your oyster.

>>96471473So, this build contains Aat Trick, the Keter Trick, the Dobrava-Nil Trick, and the Old Northern-Palatiner-Salian Trick. Aat Trick is picking Aat from Adoption. Nearly all Gifts are taken, and there are four other Siblings with the same amount of Gifts (and should count for Palatiner because they get taught Palatiner by Thaumiel). For Mentors, I just picked the two with no death slots to save my A-slot and C-slot letters and Rhucuphre because this build is very Pandaemonium-adjacent due to Malice. For companions, Blazhko is setup as a singing Causality lich and Gunter-Dobrava to setup Empyrean-Undead Nilmatrix. He's also Everlasting By Design because he doesn't actually have any gold 'No Encounters' and I need more A-slot letters. Dobrava is also set to find the cure for Bitter Sickness and prevent the Exarchate's Civil War. Deaths, I practically just filled in the slots as I see fit, notably a setup for revived Savmak before Valar becomes an adult.Actual plans, you have the trinary of Thaumiel, Aat, and Rhucuphre handling five superpowered kids. I learn nightmare genesis from Thaumiel, sneakmurderkill from Rhucuphre, and miscellaneous stuff from Aat. Early years are spent helping the three handle the four. Then, I sign up to Daemonhunt for their education, and while there, plot and do Pandaemonic stuff to exploit the Malice'd deaths. Along the way, Kilyn gets carried forever for my Mitigating Grip grind and also to teach me puns. Spako appears out of nowhere at some point for plotting help. Adult, Blazhko and Gunter enters the story from Ready, Aim, Fire. Guessing that the story is going to revolve around the Twilight Empire fighting Ecumene militarily, with Valar roped in. Karyon is probably set up to replace Thaumiel as ruler of Dis. Menesis, Thelas, and Nolos could go anywhere, and I'm hoping atleast one of them becomes a stupid bard just to help spread the gifts around. I'm probably going to push one of them into joining me in the war.
>>96471430>bulletproof skinIt’s worthless because it activates too late. Basically all your defenses must be penetrated for it to activate. >>96471611And you will have neither once you die early.Your only hope is go get pegged in the toybox.
Yeah, Tides probably need to be capped so the rest of the worlds aren't so lonely. Which cap is optimal, anons?
>>96471619>y-you will die earlyNone of those three outsiders even died early. They were just too retarded to train wisdom on their own.
>>96471610Reddit builds are all good goyim who'll help you save the world if ask them nicely though. And men wanting to be women.

>>96464199Should I drop Blazhko for Savmak so I can fit into a more populated world? Savmak sword can also become a strong undead so it fits my theming better than generic teacher Blazhko.
>>96471600>you can train for wisdom, it's wasted points
>>96471621My money on 5. Enough for plurality in arguments, impair number to avoid stalemates, enough people to handle multiples plotlines yet not too much so you lose track.
>>96471632notes on empyreans
>>96471621I would do it like this:1. Roll a first build2. Roll another, compare against existing in order 3. If compatible, add. Otherwise new world4. Worlds are always supposed to be at the same amount. So any world with less than another gets pulled ahead for comparison, rather than the first world always getting first choice-> Ideally, all worlds tend towards the same amount without a fixed cap
>>96471628Go back into the sword
>>96471621A more functional cap would be on the number of contacts you take, but that would drastically alter people's builds
>>96471600Nice to see you can still post from Chervonolin, Erginter.
>>96471633Stay in your lane.

>>96471621I don't think we need a cap. 5 seems to be the natural cap for a world. Az only has 9 builds because 4/9 of their builds are unnotable one builds with barely any mentors or companions.
>>96471600How do you even train wisdom? Get mentored by Rekt into making a bunch of mistakes?
>>96471654Yeah, it's a hypothetical. I am too late and ielziasehing captain hindsight. But it's a good algorithm no?
>>96471658Now compare for how many years they managed to stay alive in a world where the gods tink death is a good thing.
>>96471664It usually comes on its own with experience and old age.Ergo if you experience many things you will become more wise. Failure is one part of that.

>>96471621If we are going for fewer worlds let’s just set the count at 6 and go for the fewest overlapsSo if you were overlapping with all 6 we would send you to the world you had fewest overlaps with and increment their overlap counter by one

>>96471621There shouldn't be one. If anything, anons should specify if they want to be in a different tide they don't overlap with.

put keter in any scenario without 0^0 and she does pretty wellstop downplaying her
>>96471672Wisdom is a lot less linear than something like Strength of even Intelligence. A lot of what may appear as Wisdom is just jadedness, which isn't a good thing at all.Right after graduating, people are often enthusiastic about doing good work in their first real workplace, but as years pass they adapt to the environment where results barely matter. You can say they learned new things about how the world works, and adapted to it, and that's Wisdom. But they're lesser people compared to how they were before.
