It's pretty funny since the hobby has become even less accessible for kids.
Kinda crazy seeing a lot of flgs going from daycares around the 2000-2010's to manchildren debating area's now.
>>
Just ran into a video interview with Gav Thorpe where he said in the past, there were two edicts in GW. The first was that there would never be a HH game. The reasoning behind it is that people are already buying enough Space Marines in 40K; why would they want to buy more? The second edict was that there wouldn't be any Primarchs in 40K. Since the thinking at the time is that they don't fit into 40K and the theme of "paradise lost". In 40K, the Primarchs no longer had a role and no part to play in the unfolding story of humanity's slow death. They were meant to be just figures of myth.

DRUK bros....they're actually going to do it aren't they?
>Dark Eldar Combat Patrol gone from website
>No preview show announced in the near future
>0 leaks or rumors outside of the Lady Malys mini
They're going to unceremoniously dump out a new Dark Eldar Codex with only a hero model, a new god awful Homoculus or Wych Combat Patrol box, and several nerfs to push those shitty boxes, and then fuck off for another 2 years aren't they?

The only potential curve ball they could throw is that unreleased Kill Team that hasn't been leaked turns out to be Grotesques or Beast Pack but I doubt it.

Greed as always makes it all about itself, everything is turned to serve it.
Why make a good products that sells when we can sell less for more?

All the creative talent, who created the story, the setting, the model sculpts and aesthetic direction, the gameplay design choices, ie. the CREATORS of Warhammer 40k were all slowly pushed out and replaced by talentless corporate millennials. Not a single soul working at Games Workshop had a hand in its creation and they have less understanding of the game and setting than the fans do. Their primary objective is money and business.

It's funny when nuGW pushes put something like Femstodes and the true fans say "that's NOT lore accurate," but then the nu40kiddies fans say "it's the OFFICIAL lore, because it was released by Games workshop!" They don't realize that modern Games Workshop is not the creator of Warhammer, it's just wearing the skin suit of the Warhammer creators. It's like the modern Ashkenazi Israelis masquerading around as Biblical Judeans/Israelites, they are NOT the same people despite adopting their religion and living on their historical land. It's just LARPING under the same name.

I agree with KT being a little too complicated. This can make for some crazy games if both people understand the rules but it’s otherwise a headache. If they’d gone for a Warcry approach to team-sized engagements instead it would have been a lot less complicated, albeit still imbalanced.

I think the artwork is still holding fairly solid even if I despise a couple of the artists working there, specially those with the whole background color blur thing it's disgusting, but it's not all of them! I think models are higher quality than ever even if I hate monopose slop, it's more a tech thing than a creative thing though im sure if older GW had the tools they have now they could do better. The aesthetic direction is shit because we are moving into herohammer sloppa, specially the writing seems to be at an all time low. Dan Abnett got sucked off too much by the fanbase and fellow writers so now he's just doing whatever the fuck he wants no matter how absurd it all is.
>>96460058
It will be out before the year ends and trust me it's gonna be something fancy I believe, probably the best refresh this edition! GW leaks are always manufactured by insiders to try and build up hype and that's why they ring true so often, unless it's like some spanish store owner leaking boxes he got earlier. If they aren't leaking anything to youtubers it's cause they wanna make a big time surprise, drukhari are probably the most requested faction refresh as of late. It will be all monopose slop though and I fear it might be a Emp's Children type scenario.

Fair enough. Plenty of official GW artists still give a fuck though because they're aware the artwork and the aesthetics are a major selling point for the setting. Hell some of Kopinski's works are what got me interested in it to begin with after hearing one of my siblings go on and on about it. If they could just hire cheap asshats for everything they would, but they can't. While there are definitly more mediocre artists now than back in the day there are also tons of very great pieces being made. That and codexes still using art from 2003 to this day.
>Artistically, no
Fair enough, Emperor's Children situation was truly absolutely a blast to the nuts, lost potential of a legion. It seems the only ones getting decent models these days are xenos factions and even than the eldar update was still kinda dissapointing. I liked the IG stuff though and if we can call Admech as nu-gw it's absolurely a army I adore but don't have the skills to paint.

Get some greenstuff and mix it with the miliput, it'll make your life much easier and you can still file. Also pick up some clay shapers from amazon, the light blue ones with the white rubber tips -- they're about 5 quid, they come in a pack of five different shapes with alternate metal tips for more precise work where a firmer tool is needed for shaping, and they are absolute game changers. Also, you will be surprised how little greenstuff you need for most tasks. Less is more is a golden rule with sculpting. I recommend getting a few tubs of petroleum jelly to sculpt with, but you'll need to wash your minis after they cure, as it can sometimes give your paints trouble. I've never had an issue with it but I've been told so and wash them accordingly. Some people advocate water, but I find that a pain because of constantly having to reapply the water, and it also makes it difficult to feel what I'm doing, so I don't recommend it personally. Others insist upon moisturising cream such as Nivea or E45 or whatever it's called, but for me a bit of lip balm, vaseline, or something, really makes the difference. Sometimes it makes your pieces less sticky though so it's best to apply it first... Just keep going, you'll surprise yourself with what you're capable of doing.

So any of you have purchase plans before the price increase? It actually is about 5% per kit with characters and troops getting the biggest increases while Combat Patrols see pretty much no increase. Vallejo duraluminum. The best silver on the market by a mile and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
>>96461204
It's honestly an unfortunate flight stand, at least by my standards. It's a piece that glues into the model during the early stages of assembly and can't just be slotted in at the bottom after everything else, so you have a part of your base always attached to the model, meaning you can't easily paint the base separately. You have to set up your base so that you can glue the rock down in the center of it after making the terrain.
Additionally, it's height makes the hover pads nearly touch the base themselves, so if you're like me and want the illusion of your hover vehicle, I don't know, hovering above rocky terrain? You have to build another rock for it to sit on so it'll actually fly above them.

I use Vallejo Metal Color Steel and I find it a bit speckled, sadly my hobby store won't stock anything until October or so. When not using with an airbrush it also separate a lot on the palette a lot, but the coverage is so good.

Tell us what you dislike about the current model. Nobody wants to play 20 questions with you shitting on every suggestion without providing any context

Don't use it on a wet palette, it'll just become too watery as it's already thinned for airbrush use. I bought a little painters cup sheet just for duraluminum (and mixing shades) because it's wet enough as is.
>>
>>96461261
I find all the metal colours separate very quickly, but just having a stir stick on the side means you can quickly stir it when it starts to split

>>
>>96461326
How is gw going to stop you from playing games with your choice of terrain? Is it really a good thing to prevent beginners from being able to play on their kitchen tables with books and pop cans as terrain? If you want to play with cool terrain then you need to build cool terrain and bring it with you to your games, otherwise you can't expect to have the same standards or like the same style of table as you. If you look at paintball there's like 3 different archetypes of fields. Speedball fields are like 40k tourney tables, milsim is super realistic buildings, and scenery, and woodsball is somewhere in between. People generally gravitate towards one or two archetypes and don't have much interest in the remaining one. 40k is the same thing. Some people want the game to be super balanced, and don't care for narrative/thematic tables and terrain. Some people want a purely narrative experience and could care less about balance.

I hate how cucked real humans are in 40k. You don't even get to choose what evil you serve.
Tau Auxiliaries aren't even in the game at all, Chaos Cultists aren't an army, just little subjects of a middle manager trans "human" servants.
Gene-stealer cults are barely human, but for them VICTORY means complete genocide, they can't even award your loyal service.
I am a human, the writers are human, why is humanity portrayed like this?

From the latest lore about Gue'vesa, they are given gear identical to fire warriors + Devilfish and Hammerheads.
Basically, everything except suits which so far only one Gue'vesa was allowed to pilot.
So what would be the point of making Gue'vesa models? Just convert guardsmen into fire warriors count-as.

But you can have competition and balance without shit tables. I used to play infinity and one of the best things about tournaments was playing on unique tables.

>>96461387
They can't stop me from playing on any sort of terrain, but everyone else in my lgs and every lgs around me play on these terrain and the specific GW terrain layouts. It's become the standard way to play here even if people aren't going to tournaments. This includes narrative crusade campaigns as well. Everyone is playing on the same fucking table. Have I asked my friends to play on a different table? Yes, and we have played on cool tables. But more than not, I'm in the minority and playing on the GW terrain layout.

>>96461465
You say that. But GW has proven that they're able to adjust their predatory behavior and be consumer friendly. Last edition, people had to buy countless Chapter Approved books that balance/break their game every 2-3 months. This edition all army updates have been free pdfs. This terrain/table setup thing is also a new thing is a 10th edition addition that was initially started by 3rd party tournament organization. So GW CAN adapt, whether it's for the better or not is unclear. It's just bizarre. Because GW doesn't do thing unless there's something to sell, and they still haven't made terrain for the "footprints". I think this only proves how rushed out 10th was.

I promise you this never goes away, you just slowly get better at everything without noticing but still feel like you're mostly retarded. I think it's worth it to try both slapchop and traditional styles as a beginner, and to pick the one you find the most fun, NOT the one you're best at right off the bat. You will get better, but while you are learning you may as well enjoy yourself. Brush control takes a long time to polish, but you can get good brush control doing traditional or slapchop stuff

You shouldn't have bought contrasts to begin with
Ditch GW paints entirely and buy valejo
Do this. Do this no matter what. The only thing worth getting from GW is maybe, MAYBE the shades. And that you can do on your own.
Don't fall for the scam. The pots are designed to get paint caked on the inner rim of the lid and dry out faster.

And if you need practice, don't buy more models. Buy the purple engine degreaser from walmart and repaint your armies until you're satisfied. The degreaser strips paint clean off and doesn't react at all with model plastic.
>>
>>96461782
as someone that started with slapchop, my advice would be to avoid the idea of "painting correctly", and instead think of slapchop as a tool you have the option to use when its appropriate. this is then true for every technique you practice with. that said, i would have started before you began slapchopping, as in, I would not actually recommend starting with slapchop. so, I would switch to acrylic layering right away, or maybe try highlighting and shading your existing slapchop minis.
as for brush handling, there's no big secret. choke up on it, rest your hands properly, and practice.

I wouldn't call it building an army if you're playing tts. Just pick whatever sounds cool since the models dont matter to you and ask your opponents whether they want to play 1k, 2k, or 3k.
>>
>>96461944
Never met a hot midget?
>>
>>96462068
Well you still gotta build a list, I guess.
Do most people just play the same list? Is there a single head to head game free of netdecking at every level?
>>
>>96462034
I don't run them so much now in normal games but they can use their once per battle to easily pop a rhino or chunk something that another unit can clean up
They also work with SAG mek and convey their +1 hit and wound to him AND their once per battle, which gives Orks an option to potentially fight over firing lanes which was huge and I took 2x until the points hike. Like you say they can easily threaten terminator profiles from the safety of a trukk and they become a lot more useful in crusade where it's easier to get the +1 to bs/hit
>>
>>96462072
Most people play completely different lists based mostly on the models they think are cool. The only people netlisting are tourney players

I missed that assuming that surely Devastator would have Autocannons.

While this is unrealistic I'd love to see James spend an edition doing more ancient model interpretations from this era instead of bloating out new units. Eleventh Edition with a new kill team enhanced unit update sprue and two to three RT-3e sculpt reimaginings per faction instead of the bloat would be neat.

It's for gemstones traditionally, it's just a contrast paint with a shit ton of gel medium. Very similar working properties to blood for the blood god. Pic related isn't mine but is a good reference of what it does over various undercoats
>>
>>96462332
Just lose then, you're fighting one of the stronger melee armies, and he's supplementing it with high damage shooting. You're going to have to be better than him on movement and threat assessment or he's going to bend you over the table and make you bounce and moan on it.
>>
>>96462276
Yeah, both Fantasy and 40k abandoned highly individualized, properly-Chaosy Chaos Warrios/Chaos Marines early on. Can understand the reasoning, sort of (at least for 40k, not for fantasy), but still unfortunate.

I wont pretend the initial investment isnt highish because it it, but you're best of just buying a squad and a small paintset and seeing if you like the painting part first anyway
after that if you do then build your army. GW prices are too high but even that aside honestly this hobby is decent at a $$$ to time spent ratio if you enjoy it
>>
>>96462412
Tbh I just offer to teach people with my shit. I don't have a lot (1k of 2 armies, more or less), but throwing dice is army agnostic and may be enough for people to see if investing is wise.

As much of a slur as it is here, maybe TTS? The entry barrier for GW is retardedly high.
>>
>>96462124
Yeah this is a modeling hobby. The game just exists to give you something to do with your cool guys. If you want some mathematically solved hyper technical game then go play chess, or go!, or shogi, or mahjong. The game is fun, but it's fun because it's a cool cinematic experience not because it's a perfectly balanced game, or hyper competitive, or built with the concept of keeping individual strats and armies viable long term. Everything changes every 3 months or so, so what was good in the fall generally won't be good in the winter, and what was good in the winter generally won't be good in the spring, and so on and so forth. And generally at any given time there is one list that is way too strong. This is not too much of a bad thing because it takes a while to build and paint an army, and by the time you paint up 2kpts you usually only have a couple months before it gets rebranded by the dataslate. My schizo theory is that gw know this serves two purposes
1. Waacfags will buy a new army every 3 months if it means they can win, and will just build and paint it like shit to get it done
>everyone else gets the luxury of running whatever they want, and only occasionally will they end up having a handful of broken units, and only for a short time. Which means they can work on their dudes slowly and carefully without getting bummed out that their friends don't want to play against them
This keeps people buying stuff, but this also has the benefit of allowing you to run the guys you think are cool, without having to spend the rest of your life being called a waacfag by your friends
>>
>>96462448
mahjong isn't mathematically solvable

Lad just go slow its not a race. Just pay attention to the things in your list, if they go oop make sure you start downloading the legends datasheets once an edition or so just to have them on hand. If it takes you ages to paint then it takes you ages. As long as you're having fun painting that's all that matters. If you feel the need to learn about the game right fucking now then go online and watch some battle reports, or play with some gay grey shit for a few games while you're working on stuff

Interesting if true, but also the only people it's priced out are the people who don't need more expenses to make their lives harder. This hobby is pretty reasonable provided you make a wage that keeps you secure. We will absolutely see a decrease in players from the lower classes. But this has been a premium hobby for a long time. If you are stressing out at the price of eggs, or milk right now, you do not make enough for it to be a smart idea to participate in this hobby. Every hobby sees a dip in hobbyists during recessions with the exceptions of hobbies that help take the load off your bank account like small scale farming, baking, cooking, etc. This does fucking suck, for everyone, but this is the reality of an economy that ebbs and flows. This is what being an adult is. Realizing that unless you set yourself up right, everything is not tuned for you to afford it is part of growing up.
>>

I suddenly don't care about legends anymore. I want to try this.

No clue what the rest can be filled with. Flamers preferably. Centurion assault squad sucks hard dicks. "Oh you get a few flamers among bolters" isn't good enough. I'm thinking melee to fill the rest out, which is roughly 500 points.
