Why hasn't GW released Genestealer Marines, not that I want them to do this, but it seems like money for them.
>>
>>96469456
>hello can someone give me a qrd of the new squats codex?
GW got rid of judgement tokens and gave them yield points they gain for taking and holding objectives that they can spend on various buffs and abilities. They start the game with +1 to hit on enemies who are standing on an objective (and re-roll charges) and then once they go over 7 yield points they switch to +1 to hit if you're standing on an objective (and the whole "-1 to wound if STR > toughness" thing)
>did they get any new vehicles that don't look like lego shit?
They got one new dual-kit vehicle. It looks like a sagitaur with hover pads and a gun on top - if that's lego shit to you then it is what it is.
>are their railguns still 18" range?
The handheld rail rifles are still 18" range but vehicle mounted ones are 24-36" depending on the platform.

Most people don't have fun painting minis. I wish it wasn't true, and I wish there was some way to intro new people to all the info and techniques in a way that cultivates joy and minimizes fear/apprehension/and feelings of inferiority.
>>

damn I looked up the new stuff and it all has the obnoxious age of smegmar naming. did they not get the jetpack guys from the kill team as a unit? I sort of like the idea behind the faction and even some of the aesthetic, but everything about their execution seems half baked.

Everything has the obnoxious Sigmar naming conventions now. Just how it goes with GW unfortunately. Personally I love most of the Votann stuff minus the cthonian units not having proper beards, but that was an easy enough fix. That being said they definitely do need more, but then again so do like half the armies in the game. GW went on a massive push these last few years to make a bunch of new armies and then gave them fuck all and told people to wait on a second wave. It's so shitty.

maybe I'm just being bitter but it seems to me like the faction is being cockblocked from achieving the obvious identity it should have because they don't want to upstage marinebabies. in fantasy dwarfs are known for having good armor and advanced technology, but votann have worse power armor than marines and their technology doesn't seem any better than primaris shit. I know their original codex was busted and had to be nerfed before it was even released, but now they just feel like a castrated faction trying to find a new niche.

Thanks but yeah this was my first model of my first army. Maybe he doesn't look that bad but he was a mistake after mistake which I desperately tried to fix. I think I screwed up every single color I used on him and had to correct it. The leg does look bad I probably should touch it up. I finished him right before the deadline fot the collage so I missed some things. I had a lot of fun though. Those guys are next and then the Daemon Prince from the Combat Patrol.
>>
>>96469625
>he was a mistake after mistake
Yeah that's what first models are. But every mistake you made and had to fix is something you're now aware of and can touch on in the future.
>The leg does look bad I probably should touch it up
I don't think it's bad enough to bother touching up, like it's slightly noticeable in a picture but wouldn't be in person unless I was looking at him from 6 inches away, let alone table top length.

I think I'd rather have the box imo, I hate the sleeves. They get so fucked up over the span of an edition. The other criticisms you raised are totally fair though.

Hear me out anons, what about xenos worshipping space marines? Half of them fall to chaos so it's not a stretch for a few chapters to fall/ get mindbroken into worshipping some stange and powerful xenos
>>
>>96469900
He only has gunships, not the transporter
>>
>>96469852
Foam cases if they're fairly round minis like marines, magnet trays for sharp pokey models like deldar. Labeled office printer paper boxes for sprues, organized by army. Labeled ziplocs for loose bits. Stanley flat tool cases with foam glued in for washes/contrasts to hold them secure. Gw hobby cases for paints. Raspberry jam jars for basing grit, freezer ziplocs for cork and cedar bark. Brush wallet for brushes. 3 ring binder for instruction manuals. Duotang layered with baking paper for transfers. And that's about it. I'm thinking of chopping up all my codexes and core books and throwing the rules pages in a binder that I can swap in errata sheets and faqs as well, and then rebinding all the lore pages for each edition into one giant fluff bible
>>
>>96469923

>>
>>96469905
It really depends on the model from my experience. I bought a bunch of stuff from them recently (2 sagitaurs and a land fort for my Votann and a norn emissary and zoanthropes for my wife's nids) and while the nid stuff came out pristine, the votann vehicles were a little shoddy and needed some cleanup. It looks like there was definitely a mold slip on the vehicles in some spots that didn't exist on the nids at all, and it took a decent amount of scraping away at them to get them back down. The nid stuff on the other hand is basically indistinguishable from the original kits.
>>
>>96469923
>>96469939
no because the writers are too busy furiously masturbating to chaos to write something like that
>>
>>96469934

>>
>>96469889
Cheap shit wins games. You still at least have the other mainstays in most lists like Nurgle vehicles, Chosen, bikers, et cetera with other new things like the new Noise Marines and Vashtorr being an easy pick for armies with 6+ vehicles of any sort.
>>

>>
>>96469949
It's not ruining them if I'm happy with it. You could say the same about converting stuff, you could just print a completely new model or scan rather than cut one up. Also it would cost me an arm and a leg to print out all the pages on high gloss when I've got the books already. There's nothing the book does for me together that it also can't do split up, and functionally for me it makes more sense to split them up. Also you didn't read, I can manually add erratas even if I split the books, that's the whole point

I had a legit one from FW back when I still had my DG. Sold it all because of covid, the mid 9e rules change, and the "current models" rule. I used it ever since late 7th. I didn't chaosify it, either. I made it look like a DG relic. I focused back on my original BT army once I got on my feet again after lockdowns, but the game changed so much in such a little amount of time. I'm just trying to get rid of all this for an engagement ring, and I hold no love for 40k anymore, and i know if i tell myself to paint them, theyre just going to collect more dust. I might keep my last OG crusader squad and OG grimaldus and box dread and just use them in my nerd display stuff. Had those since the original Armageddon set when I was 7.

Chaos wank is in full motion.
But the real reason is that space marines have hatred against xenos hard coded in. They were made to kill aliens. Chaos was not part of the plan, basically, so half of space marines got "blindsided" and fell to chaos anyway.
Chaos space marines may be traitors, but they still despise aliens as much.

CSM will basically always spam cultists when it's available. Point for point they're just better than legionaries for their intended purpose (sitting on an objective, screening, or blocking bullets for someone more important). Legionaries in my experience do put some work in if you kit them out for melee though, especially in pactbound zealots where you can give them mark of Khorne to really let them swing above their weight class.

You can look up the guy that did just that with a tau manta.
But the main diffference is that with a resin cast is that once you have the moulds you don't have to worry about much beyond making sure the resin cures properly and the mould dosent slip, compared to a polystyrene creation that would have to take many manhours to make and would probably still costing more than $300 in labour alone.

Polishing home roolz for our HRz Bible, working on Craftworld Eldars rn.

- What's special about specific craftwords? Does anyone have some fun rules, be it official or fanmade that adds to player Eldars (even against Eldars)?

Currently the way Eldar subfactions work here:
Pick a single Craftworld. Your Craftworld allows you access to unique Units/Wargear, and if they have an associated aspect shrine they can take these as troops (We're using the oldschool percentages: 25% min as troops, 50% max as characters, 50% max as support/elite.).

Eldar also lose double points for losses: if a model costs 50 pts, it's 100 pts for losses, meaning if both armies get wiped in a 1k game, the eldar player has 1k points, while the opposing player has 2k. I think people can guess why we made that rule a thing.

It works good here because we're in a friendly, easy quick-fix setting, but what do you think anons?

>>Thread Question:
>What is the most uncomfortable truth relating to 40k and the hobby you can bear to tell us?

An incredible amount of people are going to think you're super fucking weird and that it's not a real hobby. We're engaging in really fun escapism that others will see as childish unfortunately. Most ITT have thousands of hours painting alone listening to lore or music. You're rolling dice and playing army men with your painted toys. Wait - get this: My Aunt thinks I'm weird because I have a few IKEA cases of minis. She has snow babies in china cabinets in comparison. People have a hard time "Seeing" the hobby correctly or understanding that I like to imagine and escape into the hobby. I've been going through Ian Arbitor's stuff on youtube while painting a new army and this is all I want to do for the next few months. It's a lot of solo enjoyment but I can't find anything like it in another hobby or video game. It's what does it for me - but a stack of people seem to think it's weird I spend my weekends at the shop.

Nta but a few threads ago I asked jokingly about why there was so many videos about speed painting, like finishing armies in a day or a mini in one hour. "What, are there people who like assembling and playing but not painting?"
I got like 5 replies saying Yes. Nobody said No.

There are a lot of people, even here, who like 40k, except painting. It is what it is man.

They're offset when it's double sickle mags, unless we're talking really oldhammer, then it's on on the top upside down and one horizontal on the side.

Me I like the offset mags, I like to imagine the gun has delayed firing, the first barrel fires then the second, double tap. In full auto you'd get 1 first shot then the second would be in sync with the third, etc.
>>
>>96471431
I feel like the paradox here is that people that actually like painting and take it to a higher level usually don't much care about the game. There's an anon in /wip/ that paints the best black templars you've ever seen and I remember him saying he has 0 interest in ever playing tabletop.

It does make sense, there's gotta be more people who like one specific aspect compared to people who like all parts.

You might like cooking, someone might like eating, but there's less people that like doing both, especially when one takes more effort.

And 40k isn't 2 sides. So it's an even smaller portion of people who like all of these at once.

Painting is the longest and hardest step of the hobby. If you don't have a "journey over destination" mindset it can be very frustrating. Add to that the fact that 40k players invariably buy faster than they hobby means that the pile of shame is daunting on its own

I like painting the same way I like going to the gym: my lazy ass wants to put it off and I have to psych myself up for it, but the time spent on it is (almost) always satisfying. I mean, how did you end up wanting them in the first place if you don't like such a big part of their visual design? I really dig these things myself.
>>
>>96471563
It's pretty hard, that's why I do have a pile of shame.
I always saw 40k as a hobby, I was fascinated by my late grandfather's electric train set-up and the things I'd see in White Dwarf magazines.
Painting and hobbying as a whole is scary and difficult, but I don't see that mountain and pest at it or try to find shortcuts.

That's also why I think consumers and bootlickers are very sad people, rather than try and grow up and make things better for everyone, they want the easy way out yet nobody can remind them that they are taking it.
I think it's pretty telling that most trolling here is done by that kind of people or with those kinds of opinions, merely pretending or not.

Thank you for reading my ted talk/blog

So the Kromlech bikes I had since about 2018 were part of this decision. I got 120 mk2 marines from ebay for 300+tax(+6 command sprues). Got me a 3set of special weapons, including the rotary guns for chaincannons.

My old repurposed berzerkers/old termies into possessed using skulls I got off a friend were an old project. Tentacle technovirus inspired.

Will have to buy a few more kromlech bikes because a few dudes are apothecary/techmarine based. Which I'll repurpose those backpacks into warpsmith/other dudes later.

This should be a fun final project. After the Spider army. After the Terminator army. After the Tyranid army. After the flame blood angel army(new).

Terminator army might get sold. Really not feeling a terminator army, so I might zenithal coat them and sell them. For about... The entire cost of all the stuff I got for cheap. (2000 bucks)

Shit feels complete for the most part. Just casually grinding out the minis when I get time and steam, powering out the spider army showed me I need to slow down a fair bit.

So because of the topography, I have to hand prime the models. The legs wont let me spray even coats, and the black I sprayed on was chipping off by just airflow. So I had to keep models for 48 hours in a soap bath. I just dried off the first batch after a good rinse.

The gray primer is mixed with leveling medium, and water and splotched on with the pooling taken out and then let to dry. Gray primer is easier for me because its not so shiny when I go to apply so I miss fewer spots. Just concerned about the rubbing spots. This seems to keep on the model and I hope the paint will stick to it and stay.

>>

Thinning whites?
>>
>>96473403
What IS a thin paint?
I just scoop from the pot with my brush, dab it once quickly in water, then put it on my (often dried out) "wet" palette.
Then I just pull and twist my brush. I dont bother with water ratios, "milky" consistency, multiple thin coats etc.
I do multiple coats if I must, but if I get coverage from the first coat, I dont try to do more coats.
>>
>>96473658
Learning to paint properly thinned whites is an important part of learning how to properly layer and to consider the impact of your primer color for new painters.
>>
>>96473662
It's why when someone asks me for advice on painting my first question is what paints they're using, and something I always try to tell people is just as important as thinning paints overall is not overloading their brushes. Too many times I've seen people on paint night at the LGS thin their paints using various mediums and then chunk it onto their brush like they're trying to paint the whole model without reloading their paintbrush.
>>
>>96473672
Frankly: Paint to any consistency that gets acceptable coverage while not obscuring features.
>>
>>96473662
>that certain brands like AK don't need to be thinned at all
I put my Ak paints on the wet palette and thin them a little bit on said wet palette before applying them to the model. Have I really been using those paints wrong?
>>
>>96473712
Nah if you didn't overthin them it's all good. Do try using them straight out of the bottle sometime tho
>>
>>96473677
I primed my mini white, then grey, and when those ran out, I used some leadbelcher primer that I got hanging around.
It changed nothing to my mini.
I prime white to paint black too, since it lets me see where I already painted easier, not for some color layer theory.
Also I prime the sprue, and remove the mould lines after priming, scraping a bit of prime. It doesn't seem to impact the paintjob.
>>
>>96473712
no
>>
>>96473712
most modern paints it's just personal preference. over the years manufacturers have moved towards thinner airbrush-friendly consistency out of the bottle because it's cheaper to make.

Instead of water I use liquitex white ink to thin white acrylic paint and this is two (2) coats of it over a black primer.
It covers incredibly well.
>>
>>96473736
I build up from grey primer using a light blue grey (vallejo extra opaque) thinned with white ink, but when I'm painting actual white areas/highlights it's time for pro acryl heavy titanium straight from the bottle

rinse the brush frequently to keep it moist so paint flows off, but no deliberate thinning with water

I'm still a noob still building dexterity so there are issues but none of them stem from paint being too thick
Also the crudely applied paint over the metals is thematic rather than an executive dysfunction
The contrast paints for skin & bones give me more issues than le evil thick acrylics
>>
>>96473797
I don't get why priming on the sprue and then having to handle it while you assemble stuff is easier for you. Just build the things, spray the things, then paint them like a normal person.
>>
>>96470364
Yeah, that's what my order from Bad Dragon is for.
>>
>>96473844
It is easier to hold, but that's about the only benefit I can think of
>>
>>96473736
that's what I did with liquitex ink and AP's pre-fanatic shitty pure white when I first started painting
was much easier to get a good consistency for my beginner ass
>>
>>96473844
Because priming the sprue lets me prime every bits, and I just prime one side, flip, then prime the other side on a flat surface.
Priming an assembled mini is more annoying because you have to worry about blind spots.
For the assembly, I scrape off the primed parts that will be glued while scraping off mould lines
>>
>>96473618
i dunno, seems like most armies have a variety of playstyles
>>
>>96473873
That genuinely sounds like more work to me, spraying from a bunch of angles is a matter of seconds vs having to remove paint from all the joints and still ending up with gaps in the primer from all the mould line removal.

congrats on avoiding "unnecessary steps" though lol
