That's not what I said. Abhorash is a terrible judge of character. He knew Walach for their entire mortal adult lives and look at how Walach turned out.
Judging a servant of the, and I can not stress this enough, RUINOUS POWERS as a person with less than desirable traits isn't a hard job. The god of betrayal, the god of rot, the god of unending hunger, or the god of unrestrained violence.
Look at a Nurgle worshiper and tell me this a person you want to be around, it doesn't take a strong judge of character to reject chaos worshipers.

Look, I'm glad that TOW has brought back interest in the game for so many people that couldn't play warhammer without specific approval by GW; but I'm kind of saddened that the vast majority of the conversation regarding the hobby are extremely technical and suffer from the videogamification of the hobby.

Stats, arguing about updates and patches, arguing (and not discussing) about rules, continuous bitching about list building and list optimization. The main content online (that isn't painting) is mostly competitive or pseudo competitive shit.

At least when the game was "dead" the people that stuck with it really seemed to stick out of love.

But maybe I'm just getting old, and becoming now like those oldbeards that would complain of similar things (did they?) On portent/warseer, dakka and similar places. I have my own group and we play the way we enjoy it; but it saddens seeing what the situation is out there.
>>
>>96485704
Despite most of their units not being great, it turns out cannons and steam tanks, and Demigryph knights can take down anything
>>
>>96485671
I think tourneyfaggotry needs to die.
>>
>>96485721
While I agree with the disdain for tourney faggotry I think winrates are pretty important to show overall balance of the game. I don't play competively but I at least want a chance of winning. If a faction has almost 70% winrate while others are barely winning a third of their games there is a problem.
>>
>>96485671
I find it weird that an army as strong and easy to play as Brets is that low. Also didn’t one of the guys in the video say like 5% of Cathays wins were from one playtester getting in a bunch of games in the first week they were out?

"""win rates""" contributed to the T-sportification and overall decline of 40k, set the groundwork for the 3 year cycle, paved the way for and ushered in a bunch of tourneyfags with their L-shaped clear perspex ruins on MDF bases and burning desire to enshittify a tabletop game so they could pretend they were competing in tournaments with balanced games where their wins demonstrated something, and now you want to bring all of that to TOW? No thanks. Show me your dudes and tell me of their recent exploits.
>>
>>96485721
The tourneys in my yuro country use official scenarios and legacy armies but also maintain well-painted terrain and fun fluffy armies are encouraged. It all depends on where you live. America seems very into competitive shit
>>
Tow just isn’t built for narrative games imo
>>
>>96485804
WHFB just isn't in general. The abilities have always been very game-y and about killing the enemy and not really narrative focused.

>>
>>96485787
Doesn't it suck when the army you spent all that money and effort on is noticeably mathematically less likely to win.
>>
>>96485833
No, AoS and 40k are obviously even worse in that regard.
But WHFB has for decades had all or almost all its rules focused on killing the enemy. It's never been narrative focused. It's never tried to be.

okay so your army is 'mathematically' weaker than your opponent.

maybe they understand that they're at a disadvantage if they were to fight fair with equal forces, so they resort to some dirty tricks, like a hidden ambush, or they pay for some mercenaries to help them who may be really effective or may instead decide to abandon the field after a taste of action.

I don't know, maybe research some wargaming scenarios.

Rotor assembly:
>Glued the blades normally with superglue
>kept them supported while they dried
>found a small plastic ring and made shallow notches for the blades
> glued the ring on the blades
>added a warrior's shield on top
>flipped it upside down and filled it with superglue (should have added baking soda but it worked without)
Temporarily glued the rotor to a piece of sprue for painting.

Rest od assembly:
>1 pin between motor block and cockpit
>pinned the skids
>just superglue the rest
Kept the gyro off the flying stand for painting.
Glued the rotor after everything was sealed, and left the entire copter removable from the stand for transport.

The problem with weak armies like Skaven is that their weakness comes from a lack of interesting rules and just being generally boring to play as, whereas the good armies tend to also be more mechanically rich, or "cheat" by ignoring the core mechanic of the game which is rank and flank. This isn't an absolute of course, but I think it's a good rule of thumb.

If an army was 'noticeably' less likely to win, it wouldn't need to be hyperauristically analysed to the point of determining it's 'mathematically' less likely to win. Such 'noticeable' differences have been solved by gentlemen's agreements in gaming clubs and even in pickup games for years and years, but here you are pointing to a three percentage point difference among tourneyfags' game outcomes as the reason you keep losing your games during the listbuilding phase of the game.
>>
>>96486145
Accessibility of the IP and wide availability of rules and models I guess. The barrier to entry is so low that even the supine protoplasmic jellies manage to ooze their way into the game. The amount of effort required to get started in the (GW) hobby becomes the level of effort they maintain during their entire time in the hobby.

>>

>Why is it
because historicals aren't that popular
standardisation and competitive gaming arise from mass spread
if you want a non competitive and narrative gaming in fantasy wargaming you need to step away into the places where the popularisation of said games happen and expresses itself: random players at random game stores and tournament scenes

do that and suddenly you have likeminded friends in an enclosed club throwing their models on lovely crafted tables to have fun with challenges that start with "how would..." and not "who would..."

How do you store/display your dudes anons?

I'm thinking of doing this ikea hack (not my picture) that combines a cabinet and a bookcase. Airbrush kit in the cabinet, armies on the shelves, each shelf will be flocked, have bits of terrain, the background painted in a watercolor landscape, and clear perspex across the front to keep the dust out. Thought it would be a nice hobby project in itself.

But before I go ahead I thought I'd see how others might have done it. Any thoughts or experiences welcome.

Am I taking crazy pills? I thought Characteristic tests were always 7+. As in, if d6+stat = 7+ its a pass. When did they change it to roll equal to or less than stat? It's the exact same distribution, and way easier to remember since the vast majority of the time, higher rolls are better.
>>
>>96486260
That's exactly the kind of aesthetic I want to avoid lol. Cramped, no effort other than putting the figures on a veneered shelf, collecting dust from the rest of the unkempt room. Basically I want to make each shelf like an armies on parade display board.

>Lizardmen
The simplest fix is to just revert Cold Blooded back to its old form and let it be used for all Leadership tests, not just Panic, Fear, and Terror. Lizards always had relatively low leadership values to balance out the fact that they got a third die. Losing that third die for important Leadership tests like Break Tests and Stupidity (I lost a game because my Cold Ones sat and did nothing for three fucking turns in a row) and not giving a boost to the Ld values really hurts.

Also, revert scaly skin back so it stacks with any armour worn, not replaces it. Temple Guard should have better armour than Saurus.

Also also, give Krox their 4+ scaly skin again.

Also also also, fix Fear so units can't just ignore it for high unit strength. Units that cause Fear are usually small, units that are most vulnerable to Fear are in bit blocks. Fear has been utterly negated by letting big numbers just ignore the effect. Big numbers should get a bonus to the roll, but not ignore it all together.

Oh, and put Slann on 60mm bases and let them integrate into Saurus/Temple Guard units again. Fucking stupid to keep them off to the side.

I haven't used a Slann yet since I was really disappointed in their rules but my little Skink Priest on Stegadon with the Engine of the Gods has been a little powerhouse getting +1 to his casts from the Engine. But Drenched should at least give -1 to movement and charge rolls so melee units can actually be affected by it.

Oh, and what the fuck is up with Stegadons not having any AP on their impact hits? Should be -3, or at least -2, just to differentiate from -3 that their horns do in close combat.

Attention grabbing vtuber pic

Got any good ideas for Knights of Manann? I'm trying to plan out my Marienburg army collection, and I figured most other Knightly orders wouldn't associate with a rogue city state that the Imperial beaucracy is still fuming about, which leaves the Knights of Manaan since they're based out of Marienburg itself.
I was thinking tassels and capes stylized to look like seaweed, icons, fetishes, and helmets/helmet crests that look like fish and sea monsters, and of course the Manaan Trident on shields, and maybe even have their lances have a Trident on the end?

>>96486103
That whole scene is just fine and it looks great except for the objective markers good crimminy.
Why can't people just grab a 60mm base and make a little diorama or something? Hell, keep the PVC dinner plates but attach each to a 60mm diorama.
Competition can still look nice come on now.

>>96486243
Right now it's mostly show boxes but I'm going to buy myself some real boxes with foam inserts and all. Hate the whole schtick now where people magnetize Rubbermaid containers; such an inefficient use of space. As for storage, I was just gunna pile said cases into a corner and or beneath the bed.

>Rubbermaid containers
I had to Google them, they look like the 'really useful boxes' we have over here (that Duncan used for his video about magnetised storage). I've made a couple of them and they're great for carrying minis around securely, but after having my dudes in these boxes in a cupboard for the last year or so it just seems a shame, hence why I thought I'd try something different.
Also if you get foam inserts just beware of the foam rubbing your paintwork off! A good coat of varnish will go a long way to preventing that.

Yesterday I played 1250 point Heroic Last Stand.

The Chaos were trying to perform a ritual to escape to the chaos wastes through a portal but were ambushed by Night Goblins.

After a bloody battle with many killed each side, only two were left. Everyone else had been slaughtered by a demented onslought of squig riders and squig bosses. The Chaos Ogres to their credit annihilated a Night goblin unit in a single turn after breaking them.

After an unrelenting bloodbath, because they endured for 5 turns, the portal opened, allowing Korgoth and his Chosen Knight Champion survivor to achieve a minor victory and return to the Chaos Wastes

There was a point the Chosen Knights and Korgoth were charged in the rear by 6 squigs, front by 2 trolls and the side by a squig boss and miraculously won the combat.

Not gonna lie, this game was way too stressful than it should have. Played around 20+ games since July and even though I won, felt more exhausted than anything. It might be time for a wee break. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!

Got to play a 1250p game against Warriors of Chaos today with my beastmen. We made our lists and then we rolled for the mission and got #5, the mountain pass.
In short I lost the game, but not without a fight. I brought down both his units of chaos knights, and in the end he only had his units of chosen and his chaos lord left, but in the end he won with more points.
All in all it was a great battle, lots of bants, and casual warhammer fun.

Assuming the knights were khorne, they MUST charge. If he lures the chaos knights into a bait and flee and the follow up chargers for the beastmen are within 7", the chaos knights can't use counter charge.

The defender deploys everyone first as in >>96489088 via an 18" by 18" square. Then the entire enemy army deploys after, minimum 8" distance. Defender goes first.

On paper it seems the defender has the disadvantage but if they have any man alive by turn 5, they win.
>>
>>96489345
Interesting, I'd like to try that sometime.
>On paper it seems the defender has the disadvantage but if they have any man alive by turn 5, they win.
Looks like another easy win for the undead.
>>
>>96489381
In the scenario of VC and a bigger set of armies, I would wrap it back around to defenders advantage. Pop up spam summoning zombies / skeletons and just plant your Necromancers square in the middle and gg.
>>
>>96489421
Yep, one brick of grave guards with the regen banner on the dangerous side, one big brick of skellies on the other side, the necro(s) in the middle and it's basically game over unless you get lucky deviations with templates.

You don't varnish your models?

hahahaha what a fucking retard holy shit
>>
>>96489578
No, why would I? Plastic doesnt chip, primed resin barely scratches unless youre a ham-fisted retard and anything weaker than yacht varnish or laquer isnt going to do shit to protect metal from knocks.
>>
>>96489657
Based. The only times I varnish is for metal minis or when I've used contract paints, as they run off very easily

2bh the only thing ive found that protects metal from knocks at all is rubbing thin superglue over the most damage prone edges (like action figure and gunpla guys do with joints to prevent wear) and then matte varnish over it.
But most of the time I just leave my metals at home lol

im new into tabletop and i would love to get into the old world. My fav race in warhammer fantasy/total war were beatman but i just cant stand how the OLD minis looks. I saw that beastman from kill team box looks good. Do you think GW gonna refresh old models for old armies to the standards of Cathey?
>>
>>96489783
Holy zoomer slop LMAO perhaps you should try out Age of Sigmar my nigga, seriously tho
>>
>>96489783
No
>>
>>96489783
No, just proxy whatever minis you dont like
>>
>>96489783
The whole point of tow for gw originally was to keep selling old minis. Granted that may have changed now, but it's still going to take a while for all ranges to get updated to modern standards. Hell even aos still has armies with almost all old models left such as ogres (though I guess that is about to change. Beastmen also probably aren't a priority for gw.
If you really want up to date AND gw produced minis you could source beastmen kits from other factions, tzaangors, slaangors and soon to be pestigors, theridons in the place of minotaurs, and so on. But for a new player that may be a little overwhelming.

Tldr don't hold your breath

I don't think they'll do anytime soon. They'll release more Cathay and then Kislev first.
Have you checked 3D prints? A lot of people play with 3D printed armies and you can find amazing models out there that look better and are cheaper than GW models.

I talked to one of my fellow zoomers and mentioned warhammer fantasy off handedly. He told me, "Fantasy seems like a cash grab considering they already have Age of Sigmar". It was one of those moments that made me question gun ownership, I think I would have shot him if this was in person. I had to explain to him 40k came after fantasy and Sigmar after that.

Does anybody know how the Landskenecht Pikemen from Warlord scale against Empire State Troops? Id rather use them because I much prefer the length of the spears but if they're comedically tall or short by comparison I'd rather not.

Well no, he's right. The Old World IS a cash grab, after they realized there was still a huge market for WHFB after they killed it. The game itself feels like a pantomime of oldschool warhammer.

That being said, most of the old kits (excepting my beloved Forsaken) are back in print, and the new ones arw mostly not hideous, so overall it's a win. And while I like some of what Age of Sigmar has done, I wonder if it would have ever been made at all, if Games Workshop had been run by culture less business averse than the british.

Got two mates who play regularly with bretonnian and chaos warrior armies and I wanna play with them. Should I go with empire? I wanna fire artillery like a retard, shoot crossbows and field a bunch of dickheads with halberds.

Yes, the rotor is glued in place.
I considered keeping it separated, but it's probably at a bigger risk from falling off or mishandling.
The blade molded to the rotor center is the one hanging out, while the other two are more protected from bumps by mostly overlapping the body.
>>
>>96485851
If 2 casual chads both take fun lists against each other, say skaven vs cathay, i bet they would split the wins. People stopped being casual chads when Reece and Frankie f***ed up 40k with tourney/e-sport faggotry

Outdoor Survival is well suited to constructing temporary shelter and potentially something like rat-trapping. The meat you'll get from this is diseased, though, unless you're eating people's pets, which brings other problems.

I would say that tests for shelter should actually be pretty easy, since there are few dangers other than exposure, but that food should generally be diseased (or bring down the law).

>>
>>96492594
Maybe officially GW pumped and dumped Mordheim, but it's still played today even in their HQ so there's something to be said about fun despite imbalance, the main rulebook warbands are however pretty well balanced against each other.
>>
>>96492762
I mean the campaigns quickly fall apart due to imbalance.

This and scroda are probably the only models im scratch sculpting. I have some random metals Im converting by sculpting on nurgle stuff (plaguebearer faces, bloated armor, intestines buboes etc) and a small horde of 5th edition plastics. I love the old hunched over chaos guys. I got a small lot of them from a friend with missing bits so ill just sculpt stuff as i go.
