I'm definitely not getting Magnus because I don't like the model at all and I'm not 100% sold on MVB either. The previous one was the best Combat Patrol they ever released, with only the old GSC one even in the same league. This was absolutely certain to be a downgrade one way or another, but it's very solid in its own right, especially for DE players that have based their armies on previous starter sets from which Covens have tended to be absent.

I'm going to expand it with some more Marines, I plan on getting a Havoc squad when I'm done with my current backlog and that Raptors KT set they revealed a little while ago looks like a good one for a regular Raptor squad. I know Raptors are pretty crap on the table but no Marines army of any flavor feels complete to me without at least one jump-pack assault squad.

After that, I have a bunch of the Darktide traitor guard that I'm going to build and paint like Blood Pact, I'm still working out what to do with the Grotesques and it looks like my best option is to get 3d print heads.

It's one part that topknots are a Goodwinism and a major part of his own personal design language which bleeds into all of 40k, but the other factor is that they're a really convenient way to do interesting hair on a plastic sprue. You've got to think a lot harder about how hair that falls over the shoulders fits together.

This is exactly why I love it, covens needed some value box love. It was too much to hope for that it would be as good as the old patrol but it's still way better value wise than most of the other 10e combat patrols. I'd have like to see new grotesques in it, but I knew that was some serious hopium. My only true gripe is that the points for this CP are super low, who knows that they will ultimately be with the new codex anyway.

The Imperium needs to have an actual, proper crusade against the Tau, lead by a primarch, and they don’t retreat to deal with something else, they just play out the war to its end. The Imperium bloodies the Tau but they also lose the war and are forced to retreat after a grinding front, no “oh we have to fight the Tyranids now” excuses, they just straight up lose. GW is obviously gonna continue making the Imperium more good and the Tau more grimdark so they gotta make the Tau into an actual threat if they’re gonna go that route.

The problem is that the Damocles Crusade had the Imperium leave to deal with the Tyranid invasion at the end of it. Now, even if the Imperium never was going to win that war, the narrative around it will forever be “it was a small crusade and then we left to do better things.” Hell, the common view of the Damocles Crusade is that the Imperium bitchslapped the Tau around for a few weeks and then got bored and left.

For one reason or another, the Tau never really get any respect. The Imperial Guard are elite badasses, the Space Marines are elite transhuman badasses, the Dark Eldar are scary nightmares, the Necrons are scary terminators, the Tyranids are scary bugs, etc. But the Tau are pathetic little blue fish men with primitive technology who get dunked on all the time. They’re basically the galaxy’s biggest losers.

Anon, xenos never get respect. No xenos character is ever going to be respected, especially when placed next to a Human character. If the Imperium is involved in a fight against xenos, they could lose horribly and you would still have vastly more people going on about "THE IMPERIUM JUST HAD BIGGER THREATS!", "THE IMPERIUM WASN'T TRYING!", and "THE AUTHOR IS BIASED AND HATES THE IMPERIUM!", and all such things.
The Imperium lost in Damocles. They lost so hard they burned dozens of their own worlds just to try and keep the Tau from getting them. But 90% of the modern community doesn't give a fuck about that. They think the Imperium beat the Tau, and any time someone tries to correct them a talking head fresh off a 'binge' of YT shorts will come in and go "ERM AKSHULLY THE IMPERIUM TOTALLY WRECKED THE TAU! DID YOU KNOW THE TAU WERE AWESTRUCK AND TERRIFIED THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW A TITAN? DID YOU KNOW THE TAU ONCE OPENED A DREADNOUGHT AND THE MARINE INSIDE WAS OLDER THAN THEIR SPECIES? DID YOU KNOW KRIEG GUARDSMEN CAN OVERPOWER TAU BATTLESUITS WITH SHOVELS?" which just brings everything back to square one, because whoever you were talking to first is going to go with their bias that the Imperium won and the Tau only survived because of plot armor.

Let me check the sources.
>What was the size of the Da,ocles Crusade?
The sources say it was massive (6th ED Marine codex, T'au 6th ED codex, and Farsight supplement, and Farsight: Crisis of Faith).
>Did the Imperium lose the Damocles Crusade
The sources say yes. According the 3rd and fourth edition codexes and also Warzone Damocles, the crusade chances of victory were negligible. Crusade Commander Gaughe ordered the withdrawl before the Crusade learned of the Tyranids.
>Is the T'au technology inferior to the Imperium
Across to the gathering storm, the Tau are technologically superior to the Imperium.
Book of Martyrs says that Tau sensors are more advanced than the Imperials.
Other sources say that stealth tech and medical tech of the Tau iws way more advanced.

So it all boils down to your inability to read.
>>
>>96500795
>the common view of the Damocles Crusade is that the Imperium bitchslapped the Tau around for a few weeks and then got bored and left and in reality they didnt, I will never understand how this community is so anal over lore yet will let certain things slide if it fits a majority's narrative.

NTA. That's dumb. The Imperium has working tech from the Dark Age of Technology. The T'au shouldn't be anywhere close to that. I think the T'au as a faction should have better tech on average than the Imperium. That's how everything treats them anyway

>>
>>96500845
I think Chaos would sell well if it were CSM vs Astra Militarum or sororitas
Or if you want make it weird make it CSM vs Aeldari or T'au
Going for any god-specific legion would be weird.
Assuming it will have to be SM, for it to be interesting to normies, you will have to include something different, so it isn't dude in power armour vs dude in power armour
In order not to choose hard to assemble armies or with weird mechanics, it would need to be either: Orks, Dark Mechanicum, T'au, Eldar. Dark Eldar, GSC, Necrons and Tyranids are autoexcludes.
>>
>>96500923

You guys are confusing the first and second Damocles wars/conflicts.
Here is a summary of the (First) Damocles Crusade + new lore we got from Blade of Truth novel:
https://x.com/shas_kais/status/1961246459224834372
Basically, the Damocles Crusade was a controlled conflict by the Aun'Va.

The Second Damocles Crusade/war happened in 41M 997. The T'au did, in fact, beat the Imperium so hard that they nuked their space using a superweapon that set space on fire. It's the conflict where the Raven Guard lost their chapter master and were brought to the edge of extinction.

The Tau won ever major conflict with the Imperium. Every single one.
>>
>>96500795
>the Tyranids are scary bugs
You can't be fucking serious. When have the Tyranids gotten the last actual win? They are the xenos most used as cannonfodder. Acting like the Tau are worse off is fucking idiotic, kill yourself at once.
>>
>>96500928
No starter will ever get made without IMPERIAL space marines.
Chaos space marines are not equivalent.
>>
I will never understand how this community is so anal over lore yet will let certain things slide if it fits a majority's narrative. The more I actually read the actual lore the more I realized that over the last 20 years all 40k lore discussion is nothing but multiple sides of people trying to gaslight a narrative. Damocles is one of the worst examples of Imperial bias infecting the fandom so hard they make so much asspulls to say imperials won it
>>

That's not true. The Imperium was in the period called the Waning at the time. It could no longer afford to wage wars for no solid gains.

Follow the pattern in the Age of Ending lore that started with the invasion of Hive Fleet Behemoth. You will see mention after mention of the Imperials lacking manpower and unable to commit to warzones.

You didn't need to play a game.
You just got a code and then used that to "report" who won the match. Ie. it is impossible to tell how many people actually played a match with their models and how many just submitted in "X faction won".
Also GW was taking in votes through email as well. As long as you wrote something into the email detailing why the X faction should win on Oghram, then that email would count as a vote towards the faction you chose.

The entire Oghram shit was a glorified vote and nothing more.

Imperial Fists were remade from their successors, ie. chapters which are founded and created with Imperial Fists geneseed.
Also there was an Imperial Fists survivor, Slaughter he was the last man standing and was then made the chapter master.
Imperial Fists never died out.

Again, this isn't a big deal.
Marine chapters getting nearly wiped or taking heavy casualties is just an average tuesday for the Imperium and marines.

You can go ask any store manager what they're told as the reason to push marines onto newcomers, especially younger kids, and tricking them to get into a product line too large to collect is half the reason, the other half is that after they've wasted enough money into marines they'll be hooked by the sunken cost but move to other factions, because marines are often too simple or too bland for advanced hobbyists.

I feel like GW can’t decide if it wants the Imperium to be a reasonable modern place to live so people root for it more unironically and relate to it more but still wants to keep things grimdark but they have no idea how to do that
>>

So the Imperium is very large and doesn't have a good centralized government, so the living standard on Imperial worlds very wildly.

Pretty shitty take. GW has been very consistent that THE IMPERIUM is downright malicious and cruel, but individuals within it can be good.

The issue is the fanbase trying to act like the Imperium does nothing wrong, when GW never claimed anything like it.

And the best they can do is such a dysfunctional and cruel system. I swear I had it saved even, but can't find it for now in an absolute mess that is my 40k folder

Still what GW does is pretty clear. They present this cruel, authoritarian government as cool, badass and ultimately good. Setting itself is written and presented completely seriously. And any time some sort of political shitflinging is close to happen, they just resort to their "it's just a satire" excuse, only to make another 30 books about adventures and feelings of their racist space knights.

It's needlessly limiting and wasteful. Any expansion of such a game would require branching out and including more factions anyway. It's what Mechanicus did already, by having playable Necrons in a sequel and Votann showing up. Eventually every faction from Guard to Marines to Eldar will become playable in Mechanicus series, which is just a tactics game in practice. So why even call it after name of a single faction to begin with?

Space Marine also should have playable Nids, Orks and Chaos in PvE too, because it's just an action game ultimately. People complain about this since first game release. It's the natural evolution for this sort of a game.

Vermintide too had to stop being Vermintide only and suddenly you fight Norscans and Beastmen too in a sequel and will fight even more enemies in VT3. With everyone wanting to fight Undead already

None of faction deserve a game only for them, they aren't distinct enough for this.

This general is ironically one of the kindest online outlets for 40k for anyone who isn't an Imperium fan. Out there you have people who will insult and degrade you for even talking good about xenos or Chaos. There are BL fans who will treat you with scorn if you so much as bring up the tabletop game. Painting tends to catch significantly less flak, but you're also gojng to be endlessly exposed to professional painters posting pics of their showcase pieces.
People here are assholes but 98% of the time it's not spiteful or hateful, and a fair chunk of the time it's just somebody being intentionally dumb to stir up conversation.

Technically, yes, but I think they should be working to differentiate her more from the standard archon. If they wanted to give the generic female archon sleaker and more form-fitting armour (which they don't, and didn't do, judging by the new archon model), I'd be fine with that. Malys, on the other hand, is close to the pinnacle of Dark Eldar society, so her design should be more idiosyncratic - and like you said, more poised and graceful.

To me the problem is the extremely generic pose. It's not BAD bad in isolation, but when every other character has that same exact pose or some slight variation the model loses a lot of flavor. I think you problems you and >>96502457 are touching on are joined at the hip. The fundamental character design here (you might call it boring, but I'll outright call it bad) is lacking, so the personality of the model suffers. This lack of personality follows through into the posing, as there are no design elements/personality to really draw out, convey, or emphasize. You're ultimately left with an unremarkable character model in an unremarkable pose.
>>
>>96502508
NTA but the smaller faction subreddits are somewhat tolerable but they still fall into reddits pitfalls of toxic positivity and circlejerking. 4chan has its own problems but at least you don't need to tiptoe around every single fucking post and if someone is being an idiot you can call him a niggerfaggot and you won't get banned for it. Nobody here is afraid to criticise your shit painting out of fear of being downvoted or whatever. Because of the fairly quick posting and banter there's actually some sense of community too, which you'll never get on reddit. It's just a shame /40kg/ is such a mess, smaller generals like /wip/ are unironically some of the best places for their respective topics on the internet.

It's why the veiled face works so much better, as the lack of a visible face at least gives it an air of mystique. Unfortunately, that veil doesn't really flow well with the stiff, jagged armor.

It's funny, because I've said there's things about the model I actually like - the buttskirt and scorpion tail ornament are great, for example - but I do agree there's a certain saucelessness to the model.

If I was to put on my tinfoil cap, I'd say it's because a lot of these named character models are meant to be stand-in for book characters - or have their character expanded upon in books - nowadays rather than the sum total of a character being condensed into a model as your primary understanding of that character. The new primaris lieutenant is a good example of what I mean: the model on the face of it is just a generic primaris lieutenant, nothing particularly good or bad about it. Just a generic lieutenant in a generic pose. But he's BATTLE BROTHER GLUPIUS SHITTORIUS from BOOK SERIES so you're supposed to pog out over him.

It kinda reminds me of the Disney Star Wars approach to worldbuilding, where they release tepid primary media and then expect you to chase down all the supplementary media to make it make sense, rather than releasing primary media good enough to make me WANT to chase down supplementary media.

CHAOS works in extremes so its hard to really make a satisfying representation to each of those extremes with limited model counts
GW has given a lot of lore to each god but struggle to really develop details
and as much as chaos fanboys want to deny this, GW has always treated chaos as the eventual threat, not so much the threat they have now. as to why representation of them in general has been pretty sparce compared to other factions.
they always end up having to soup them in some way
so what ends up happening, instead of having a distinction between the space marines, the cults, daemons, this time around they've decided to soup them based on deities and undivided when before it was just marines, daemons, and the lost and the damned at one point

both ways have advantages, but lots of the disadvantages that will always lead to one of your personal favorite aspects of a chaos theme being missed

personally i saw let chaos have it all and let the players sort things out

Yeah you're right. I was giving to much credit. Colonial marines are just modern military. The lieutenant pulls out a normal ass modern pistol and that one guy has a sawed off modern shotgun. They are just modern military with a fancy car.

Going off of modern GW sprues, it'll probably be fucking terrible. Expect to use half a pound of green stuff to fill all the gaps and replace all the stuff you have to cut or sand down.

No, I don't
You have no argument and you've devolved to trying to shove words in mouths to save face

Eh, I've done worse. I turned the AOS ork smith character into a meganob big mek using a clusterfuck of spare bits, greenstuff, epoxy, and a heavily cut down ogryn chestpiece. Granted, orks lend themselves to sloppy chopjobs much better than deldar.

Well whoever >>96503524 is said that.

I forgot autists have face blindness and can't tell shapes apart but are really good at numbers and logic. This is like the perfect encapsulation of autists not being able to understand certain things lmao

Im so bloody late...
Im glad deldarbros are keeping their hopes us, a friend sent me doom messages about the whole affair while I was hitting on his sister. To be honest their models hold up super well like a ton of tau stuff so I wouldn't be that sad about it, by the looks of things the new ones will be worst
I also missed the regular twice a week xenos don't matter we need more muhrines to consoom seethe discussion. Space marines aren't even the coolest faction in the imperium

>Try that on the tabletop, boyo.
That's literally what happened at the start of black crusade campaign in the 00s. They had a battle report they fought 3 times for the WD article and talked about in the post-game write up that the least bad version (for Chaos) they used involved Abbadon getting his ass kicked in close combat by Eldrad. (3++ saves with re-rolls is no joke). That's where the original armless failure jokes came from. I had a pic of the original write up save nut deleted a few months ago.
