Just wanted to say I would've, unironically, consumed and drafted this set just for the cool spider creatures. I'll never get over the fact that this is the one and only Magic set WotC will ever make that has spider tribal as an archetype.

>>96506550just do the same with the spiderman set, ain't that hard
>>96506578So they re-used scrapped art from previous sets?Even that looks unironically better.
>>96506593Some artists have mentioned that there are newly commissioned arts. Also, the Spider cards are definitely commissioned for the set. They are very specific (requiring a spider and a human/goblin/... pairing) to be lying around randomly.
>>96506593The digital-only set does use many older set's plane settings like Bloomburrow, Edge of Eternities and Duskmourn.

>>96506989This interacts with X spells, right? If you cast a creature like Endless One, paying whatever Druneth's power is as mana, you get to copy it, right?
Why aren't the omenpath cards on scryfall yet? Are those trannies too busy dilating?
>>96506989Amazing card for Humans in Pioneer, can't think of any other deck that wants to go 1-drop into this into 1-drop + 2-drop to get full value early on and can easily splash for UG.
>>96506592I could, but the set is significantly more expensive than the regular sets, and also most of these creatures clearly aren't spiders, they're just spider-infused humans. It's a real shame too, 5-color spiders would've been a really cool deck to mess around with in standard (minus the $200+ mana base and dealing with Vivi).

>>96507740An artist using a relative as a model is not so bad in principle but the results vary depending on the skill of the artist.Card designers that put their OC nugget in, and get several variants while established characters get recolors are cringeworthy.Weren't the original legends named after role playing characters of the design team?
>>96507740I do think the real world models have been more dramatic in the past ten-ish years, but lots of beloved artists like Terese constantly drew real people on to cards. Any Terese card that depicts Hanna is modeled after herself. Her style just keeps it from being jarring.
>>96508312It's been showing up here and there lately. Not usually anything GOOD, though.
I've always primarily been a Standard player, but I am thinking of taking the Brawl pill finally. >>96508576>They should do more cards with the "tap all your lands" cost.>It opens quite a bit of design space. There's not a lot you could do with that without it either being not worth the cost or way too broken. Maybe in a draft innovation set/straight-to-commander product it would be interesting, but in standard the effects would either be too slow, too irrelevant or too much for one card, no inbetween. On the other hand, I kinda wish they played a bit more with the "Lands don't untap during your next turn" archetype. It obviously wasn't great for spells, but a permanent with an extra-broken ability that can do that would probably be a lot more reasonable and a lot easier to balance.>>96508677Nah, I'm just gonna skip the set and play with the cards that eventually get reprinted in the 2030s, if I'm still playing the game that is.
>>96508908I stopped playing
>>96508910I've said it before, but I think stun counters were a great idea and they could do a lot more with them. One of those being lands, both as pseudo land destruction but also as a drawback on your own lands. That way there's more of a gradient instead of affecting all lands or none, and there's still an impact even when used on tapped lands. Not to mention more interaction in general with counters.

TL;DR, no emergency bans during RCQ season because that'd be too disruptive, but for next year on they'll do a B&R announcement after every major set release and they're slightly moving the B&R date up by two weeks (from the 24th of Nov to the 10th) for this one.Vivi is definitely going to get banned, Soul Cauldron they're less sure on.

>>96509669I hope so but it's most likely just a trick to make the sheeple happy. they will be just putting up a "no changes" post more often and it will take a while before normies realise that but by then they have come up with new excuses why there are not more bans

Don't you find it funny how WotC will routinely cut pro tour support while rushing card design because they want to focus on a casual, self-regulated playstyle (Commander), but the second the topic of the banlist comes up, they allegedly care about pro tour?
>>96509710no speako brazilero
>>96509722It doesn't look like you speak English either, retard.
QUICKLY MARK! WE NEED MORE PUSHED RED CARDS! IT'S NOT DOING WELL ENOUGH IN THE 120 LIFE FORMAT. PRINT ANOTHER 1-DROP THAT BURNS YOUR OPPONENT WHEN IT DIES.
>>96509487A lot of classic stuff>Don't want to disrupt upcoming event>Meta is still evolving>Bans are scawy for poor innocent investors, I mean players>Our data suggests it's only really a problem for competitive play
i’m not happy with more frequent bans, i mean someone doubt they will just pull the flourishing meme again when bans are needed? or that they will ban unrelated stuff like they did with hopeless and abuelos? they can’t balance even if their lives depend of it and they are greedy bastards that are willing to let broken stuff to run rampant for as long as they can hold it just to get profit…this shit smells awful.
>>96509527Equilibrium will be achieved when the construct known as the white race (which doesn't exist) will be removed from the gene pool entirely, at which point every jew will own 1800 goyim that will serve them eagerly and willingly, as prescribed by the talmud.
>>96509669They have 100% proven that they will absolutely NOT ban UB cards for at least a few months. If it is still shifting packs then it won't eat a ban.
Oh nice, more months of Aggro dominating the formats, Control almost non existent and Combo absolutely disappeared. I surely love the Balance Team of this game…
>>96509087I'm referring to existing support. It's so hard to draft they came up with the pick 2. Eoe draft on Spoodermang release is very telling. Beyond that I'm frustrated that b/g spiders/insects aren't eating that well from this set. I'm mad, mad about spiderman ub. >>96509102>also thoughts on timeline culler? It's a breddy gud card for 2/2 hasty black
>>96509809Vivi is combo thoughbeit
>>96509809You incels complained that every single game in every single format was a turn 1,5 win by combo decks, so we gave you 95% aggro meta share and you schizos still complain?Maro was right when he said that if they put $20 bills in $4 booster packs the players would complain about how the money are folded.(Formerly $4).
...and when November rolls around, you're going to WISH for Vivi back. Why? We're also going to ban all creature removal. Research showed that combo and control have a combined meta share of 1%. If it went to 2% after the announcements, Arena players would riot because they can't finish their games before their moms enable the parental controls. Here's your future:>No effects target (Arena players don't like extra clicks)>100% aggro meta share (Arena players prefer short games)>No playtesting (We need more product for Commander)>No banlists (If we pretend the problem doesn't exist, investors won't notice. Players should just self-regulate like we tell Commander and D&D players to do. That works 100% of the time.)>More price hikes (It's hard to ensure the foils come pre-curled)>More UB (UB players aren't experienced enough to know about the game's problems)>More Loot (We need a marketable mascot)If you complain, we'll send the Pinkertons in after you.
>>96509843>Forgot to mention that no triggers are optional eitherFUCK
>>96509615Oy vey goyim, what have we said about TALL ASKING
>>96509839I'M SORRY MARK! I KNEEL BEFORE YOUR SUPERIOR VISION!
>>96509839>>96509843I think this Standard and i mean Standard since OTJ were Slickshot already was a problem, is in is absolute worst state the prevalence of Aggro through Modern level creature threats, the inefficiency of removal mostly shitty sorcery or overcosted effects and the lack or attack on good Combo decks (Before bans the meta at least had some variance with Omniscience but they killed that deck instantly and everything became Vivi) has lead to the awful unplayable and boring format we have nowadays a format only the most sweaty addicts are willing to play.
>>96509839That filthy kike is never right. Nosewater can go suck a shekel
is maro never going to acknowlage that standard is as expensive as modern/pio nowadays?there is not a single cheap onboarding product like challenger decks anymore
>>96509487>we're going to be more aggressive next year with the number of banned and restricted announcement windows and the timing>we tried to give ourselves the flexibility to ban cards whenever we wanted by removing predetermined ban dates, sometimes giving notice, sometimes not. It was chaos and, in retrospect, the wrong move.It seems odd to me that they didn't realize either of these things sooner. Most modern competitive games don't roll out ban/rebalancing announcements until right before or after each major expansion, and that matters a ton when you have thousands of options to work with. Maybe they just didn't have that point of reference for some reason.>We believe that we will likely take action in November. Vivi Ornitier is warping the Standard format and likely needs to go. We're unsure about Agatha's Soul Cauldron.Good, I'm glad they're more than open admitting Vivi is clearly the problem, y'know, as long as they don't walk it back once the ban announcement comes.>But we also don't think the format has reached its final form, which would give us the clearest direction to set Standard up for long-term success.>Vivi Ornitier is a clear outlier, but the format hasn't reached an equilibrium point yet.I get why people are concerned about these lines, but I think the main thing they're worried about is a-fucking-nother episode of banning one deck just for another overpowered deck to take its place, their main fears seeming to be that mono-red to take the reigns again and people will complain about it as much as they did the mice deck. Of course to me the solution is obvious, ban Screaming Nemesis, aka the card that nullifies red's main weakness (lifegain).Either way, kinda hard to want to push standard to its final form when one strategy is so obviously broken over others. I'm glad Mite is getting recognition though.
>>96509981I have been saying this since before the seven ban wave…The bans they should do for Standard to START healing are:ViviCauldron (yes both)NemesisManifoldOmniscienceStormchaser talent
>>96509731the only language these things are fluent in is racism
>>96509959Why would he care? The cards need to be expensive in order to please the investorfags and collectors who make up the largest portion of paying customers after UB tourists.
>>96510041>OmniscienceGood luck getting that removed being core set.
>>96510041Wow, I'm really looking forward to Dimir Midrange hitting 60% meta share
>>96510045wow rude to call premodern players things
>>96509487>play this monogreen lmaoNo, fuck you we won't tell you how to deal with screaming nemeses
>>96510095you said the same when they made the seven ban wave fags, guess what we are here with only vivi in charge.
>>96510108Just trample over it and win before you die from the trigger, lol
>>96510121Well what comes next after Vivi?
>>96510122>Just remove it frendo!>Dies to doomblade brother!Haha good tip, champ!
>>96510151Considering WotC just are incapable of balancing this fucking game… I guess some form of hyper aggro but this time Monored and with the Firebend Mechanic as the root of all the problem
>>96510108Hmm... sounds familiar. The vain attempt at trying to tell people that there are other viable strategies is insane and patronizing. No shit people know that other decks exist.>Oh by the way there's a Boros Auras deck that's still underplayed in this flourishing format!!
I'm just going to explain a very basic way that MTG should be balanced, so people understand how shit WotC is at game design.Burn should count to 20. With a starting grip of 7 cards and good draws, it should be able to count to 20. It's that simple. If burn can count to more than 20, it is broken. The game should be balanced so burn does not have overkill damage without being stretched thin.Between Ramunap, manlands, SSS, Mice, impulse draw etc. modern Burn/aggro decks reliably have 15-30 points of overkill damage at their disposal, without having to sacrifice anything consistency to get it. (Combo decks tend to sacrifice consistency for those explosive one-shots.) If you've ever tried to play a life gain deck in the current absolute fucking state of things, you'd understand how big a problem this is. You could gain 20 life over the course of the game and still trivially die to burn. When the primary means to counter degenerate single-focus decks simply doesn't exist because of how efficient said decks are, you have a problem. This is bad design. This is bad balance. WotC is shit and should fix their game.Don't get me started on Screaming Nemesis./blog
>>96510180As they say>There's plenty of room for rogue decks to succeed
>>96510267All macro archetypes are present in the meta. (at 1% meta share or lower)
>>96509487>TL;DR, no emergency bans during RCQ season because that'd be too disruptive,MOTHERFUCKER ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME YOU STUPID FUCKS HOW ABOUT YOUR SHIT FUCKING ASS CANCER DESIGNS ARE DISRUPTIVE RUINING THE ENTIRE FUCKING FORMAT BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO FUCKING RETARDED TO PLAYTEST YOUR FUCKING CARDS HOLY FUCKHOW ABOUT YOU CAUSED THE FUCKING PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH SO FUCKING FIX IT YOU MORONS
>>96507622lmao making me want to do this on mtgo
>>96509615Maybe not sword to plowshares but path to exile.
>>96509487>First, we do think we got our banned and restricted announcement timing windows wrong during this part of the year. ThisZero accountability. You got the designs wrong, idiot. You are bad designers. You suck at design. "We got the ban window wrong" is such fucking cope. How about you shouldn't have to ban cards. How about your shit designs are the fucking problem. How about stop being retarded in the first place so we don't have this problem.
>>96509615This is just going to make Izzet Vivi into Jeskai Vivi.
>>96509487>"Fourth and finally: While we acknowledge that high-level competitive Standard is lopsided, the majority of Standard play is not."This is the dumbest fucking thing I have ever heard.
>>96510303I get the idea that springing a ban on people right before an event and leaving people scrambling isn't ideal, but I don't get how a miserable event full of gay ass Vivi mirrors and a >75% Vivi top 16 is much better, especially WHEN IT ALREADY FUCKING HAPPENED AT THE LAST MAJOR EVENT.
>>96510311Come at me bro do it
>>96509487See, standard is fine, tournaments don't matter anyway.
>>96510348>I get the idea that springing a ban on people right before an event and leaving people scrambling isn't ideal, but I don't get how a miserable event full of gay ass Vivi mirrors and a >75% Vivi top 16 is much better, especially WHEN IT ALREADY FUCKING HAPPENED AT THE LAST MAJOR EVENT.Ban after the previous RCQ?Nah.Wait for the next RCQ then say you can't ban anything because RCQ is coming up?Yeah. It's just total incompetent narcissism. Excuses, excuses, excuses, zero accountability. Admitting there's a problem without admitting it's your fault. >"While we acknowledge that high-level competitive Standard is lopsided"Who caused the fucking problem.>Vivi Cauldron decks have taken the spotlight with disproportionate metagame shares and top finishes.Who caused the fucking problem.> Vivi Ornitier is warping the Standard format and likely needs to go. >>96510313Ban-worthy cards sell better, especially when you refuse to ban them as long as possible. Reminder that we live in a clown world where Sheoldred never got banned after ravaging Standard for months and months because they just fucking waited it out until it got powercrept out of the meta.
Bruh do these retards even play arena? Tryna climb the ladder is so frustrating rn
Honest thoughts on Commander taking over all of Magic?
>>96506886That looks like Zendikar to me
>>96510370Dead serious this is the dumbest fucking shit I have ever read in my fucking life. Total psychotic gaslighting. An unfettered display of narcissistic deflection. Zero accountability. Token gestures hoping to alleviate people being upset, while pretending you've done no wrong. No attempt to solve the real problem, only attempts to convince people that they shouldn't be mad about it.This shit is UNACCEPTABLE.
>>96510379Wrong, the Arena ladder is doing good :^)>The MTG Arena ladder isn't nearly this distorted, and in-store play isn't nearly this distorted. Most players who play Standard outside the competitive sphere have a different experience.
>>96510374But bro you don’t understand the line goes UP!Think about all those poor investors and shareholders, what would our cardboard addicts think if we ban a card they wasted 100$ to get a set? Sales first, balance later
>>96510401HAHAHAHAHA HOLY SHIT!!!How can they lie straight to the face of their customers and don’t ever be ashamed? I had a day on Arena where I played 12 TWELVE Vivi matches in a row, where is my different and enriching experience JOTC?
>>96510409The gaslighting about the absolute fucking catastrophic failed state of Standard is not acceptable and this article ought to be treated as the attempt at manipulation from an abusive spouse that it is.
