Does anyone know of a game that's similar to Broken Legions, but better? I love Broken Legions, it's pure soul and the game itself is fun. But it's clunky and feels overly heavy. If someone knows of a game that let's you pit Fantasy Romans vs Mummies, Minotaurs, Barbarians, Dacians, the Argonauts, Parthians etc please let me know.

>>96530776
>>96530766I can't speak for [pic], but TFL does good work, and this sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Could be worth checking out.
>>96530799While this does look excellent, and I shall be looking into it, it's not quite what I've been looking for, and it's perhaps on me for not fleshing out what Broken Legions is in my initial post.Broken Legions is a decidedly small scale skirmish game that typically has less than 15 miniatures on the table at any given time in my experience. It's very narrative driven and designed for people with some imagination to lend the events a more serious tone. But again, thank you for the Midgard suggestion, Rank and Flank isn't really my thing but this looks fascinating.
>>96530766if you like the game and want something for the particular setting, why not just modify the game with your own homebrew rules? It's unlikely you're going to find a better fit for that niche setting than that very niche set of rules.
>>96530911Try Heroic!(actual name of the system). It's essentially d10 based mesbg but the author forgot to add cavalry.
>>96530766>>96530911>If someone knows of a game that let's you pit Fantasy Romans vs Mummies, Minotaurs, Barbarians, Dacians, the Argonauts, Parthians etc please let me know.Brutality Skirmish and En Garde both work if you're into 5-10 models per side or a couple larger monsters. En Garde doesn't handle anything bigger than an ogre well, Brutality has a "beastiary" supplement that lets you go into mid-sized dragon territory. >other considerationsBrutality's big gimmick is letting you play pretty much any time period. You can mix them up or take it straight. That said it puts hard limits on your character archetypes. So you'd only have a couple hard melee hitters (Legionaries) before you need to add in stuff like a support spellcaster, fast skirmishers, tanky dudes (maybe cavalry?) etc. It's still doable. Has an excellent one-player mode as well as two-player with neutral enemies. Combat system is pretty normal diceoffs with no frills. Has an okay campaign system with sanity rules and an overall theme of keeping the gods happy that could all work nicely with Romans in a horror setting.En Garde is more of a swashbuckler, theoretically Early Modern/Renaissance but quite functional as far back as Bronze Age with a little list-building. It works very well for asymmetric combat, you need to use coordinated attacks from several weaker fighters to pull down stronger enemies. Supports cavalry, missile troops, etc.. Campaign mode is very rudimentary and it doesn't work well for solo. The combat system has a unique bluffing/resource mechanic that looks complicated but isn't. As someone who's done a lot of HEMA it flows very quickly and a lot like a sword fight - you choose how defensive or offensive you're going to be at the start of a fight, then have to predict your opponent's choices and react appropriatelyBoth games have very similar scales, rule density (light, <50ppg), number/quality of published scenarios, and price, so those are a wash on all accounts.
Does anyone know of any games that are as simple as Mini Gangs ? Looking for something that I could play with a little nephew and teach him how to count.
>>96530939I fucking despise those generic names, it becomes very difficult to search for stuff on the game with how dumbed down search engines are nowadays.
>>96531743I personally love them.
tiefling concubine
So, Conquest. What should my first purchases be after the Yoroni Cohort starter box?
>>96532333Spider waifu.
Remember Rogue StarsCool miniature range that slots nicely into the Stargrave one
>>96531423Unironically OPR but only with core rules. Pick unit that have next to no special rules or simply alter profiles by removing some and call it a day. OPR is extremely modular, even the core rules can have some layers stripped off still to make it even more simple.
>>96530939>>96531228Thank you for these suggestions, you've given me plenty to look into! I wasn't expecting to get three suggestions so soon! So thanks again.>>96530921My creative brain has been robbed from me by my medication, so I try and just find works that already exist and enjoy what there is.
What do you need to get started with frostgrave other than a warband or two (1/2 mages plus couple dudes and some companion animals) and terrain? As in what NPCs and how many of them?
>>96532945One thing that's personally annoying is you could get the single sculpts of only the Mark Copplestone ones, and now they're in mixed two packs. So unless I beg North Star I'll have to buy a load of doubles
I'm poorly please post little warbands that are cuteSci-fi preferably but also fantasy if you think

>>96533379Nice! I love the Troopers sprue. Working on some more right now. I love that commanderSo...WGA is doing Trench Crusade... with MWG Dave...in 32mm... Heh. Not really my thing but that is such a combo...maybe if I become a big YouTube guy I can convince them to release some figures for the Russo Japanese war.
>>96533185Bro read the book
>>96533388Those are great. I wish they weren't so expensive
>>96533411Yeah I kind of know Curtis at Ramshackle, but I'm not brave enough to mention "bro £8-10 a single resin miniature is a bit much"Even his own range is £6 each for 28mm scale stuff on the smaller side, I know he has a bundle deal but still
>>96533421it is what it is
Magpie and Old Lead is the boss. I love his stuff
>>96533464I want to emulate him and make a photo backdrop. I want my own little "setting"
>>96533379My dudes from a few weeks ago.
Oh wow these were genuinely brand new stock.I feel like on a non lip base I could use them to proxy generic paladins but it would feel wrong without the lips
>>96533574Very nice my friend, great sculpts aren't they
>>96530799
How strict is the warmachine community on proxying official models. I think it uses unit sizes not true LOS so if I used sword knights instead of the new storm models, would anybody mind?
>>96533778You're a bigger faggot than they are.
>>96533783As long as you are reasonable with proxying everything should be fine. The community is so small that we are in no position for sucking the corporate dick and acting as jannies. I use random LoE bitches converted with whips as Beast handlers in my Skorne army because I'm a coomer.
>>96533793I respect the consistency
>>96533793What's his endgame?
>>96533793Imagine being James Morris, and having no idea that somewhere in the bowels of the internet is some sperg and you live rent free in his head
Are all three Mk4 players in this thread happy with the PDF rulebook release? My only complaint is there is no printer-friendly version as well but that's a start.
>>96533965Why isnt it printer friendly?? I havent looked at the pdf but im hella happy to have a static complete rule set because I hate constantly changing things. How many pages are the core rules because I have a printer but it does a page at a time one sided
>>9653397086 pages. There is a lot of background art, all pages have the background texture etc. I wish more companies would release text-only versions of their rulesets with necessary graphs and figures only like OPR.
>>96533982I shall have to download it and go and find what pages are needed and also remove some of the over the top art.I love art in books, but im with you on a plain black and white version with just rules
>>96533925He's desperately trying to hide his own homosexual by pointing at others.
>>96533830Ah, my brother in coom, let me post my doom reavers for the hundredth time
>>96534046>jewish psychoanalyzing I just cringed >>96533793What's funny about this is that James Morris isn't even gay and that pic is just him playing a demo game with his mate. The guy's name isn't even Nigel
I can't force myself to buy into Warmachine because of the ridiculous inconsistency of materials used for manufacturing and how releases are planned. I find Orgoth Graveborn simply amazing in terms of design and sculpts but I won't ever be able to expand them into a proper army since all the other kits are 3D printed slop and there is no way in the world I will put my trust in SFG printing quality. If I could buy STLs and ask one of the local proonters to print them for me that would be somewhat fine but of course it's not possible. Dark Operations are 100% STLs but they are an army of legend so that's a no as well. I wish SFG committed to Warmachine and release hard plastic expansions for the hard plastic starter boxes at least.
>>96524121>>96522576>>96516410Epic Warpath nameless anon, if you're still around do you mind posting some scale comparisons? I'm pretty interested in the minis myself but I'm not sure how well they'd match up to something like 12 or 15mm minis.I wanted to use them as more generic aliens alongside Heavy Gear and/or Flames of War minis.
Oathmark Surmaapparently releasing same time as Human Heavy Infantry and new Ogres this autumn, according to Northstar.
I know OPR's regiments is kinda an afterthought to their round base games but is it fun?
>>96534502I've played it a few times, it's perfectly serviceable, nothing special but definitely fun if you've got a likeminded buddy
>>96534462You should be able to use bigger models alongside HG, but infantry is too small. They need to be something like half a time again as tall to work. Unless you count them as hobbits.
>>96533403>I can convince themYou dont need to convince them, you just give them (enough) money, and they make any set you want. And you'd even get a percentage of every sold box, which is why those commissioned sets are always a bit more expensive than their inhouse sets. (see Spacenam, Quar etc).
>>96534706>infantry is too small. They need to be something like half a time again as tall to work. You mean the HG infantry are too small or the EW infantry are too small? I've heard the EW minis are tall but thin while the HG infantry are short but chunky.15mm minis are probably right out though, unless you want tiny aliens.
>>96533185>What do you need to get started with frostgrave other than a warband or twoIt depends. You can get by with a pretty small collection. My recommendations (this will get you a reasonably complete setup for <$100)- >Frostgrave Undead packs from ManticThese are just a couple sprues of skeletons, and one each of Ghouls and Zombies. Very, very cheap for what you get. Next cheapest is buying a sprue each of Zeds and Skellies from a Wargames Atlantic reseller like Recreational Conflict>Reaper Animal Companions 5, wolf pack, and Giant RatsGets you a bear, a leopard, multiple wolves, and a wolverine you can use as a Frost Toad plus six cheap rats for ~$25>Your choice of two trolls/ogres from Ral Partha Europe or ReaperCan substitute for any of the Big Guys>Wargames Atlantic Dark Age Irish (1 sprue)Gets you a small pack of wild or tame dogs and Barbarians (you can also use the Barbarians as Beastmen/Gnolls, Rangifer, etc. as you move through modules). North Star Tribals are another good choice here. They just don't have the extra dogs>Any manufacturer (Nolzurs will be cheapest)A Vampire, Mummy, or similarly powerful Undead model, a large Genie/demon, some man-sized demons, a werewolf, and a couple of Imps or cherubs. For one of the scenarios you need six Constructs; the easiest way is painting up minis you don't want as statues. All of mine came out of the broken/missing parts bin at my LGS for $1.That gets you a nice spread of Animals, Constructs, Humanoids, Demons, Undead, and all the Companion models the average warband will want to summon if they get the relevant spells. There's more stuff on the list, theoretically, but it doesn't really matter.
>>96534462Fuck, these look good. Shame they won't see general release for a few months, at least.
>>96534888>You mean the HG infantry are too small or the EW infantry are too small?EW are too small. For HG you need infantry models in around 14-17 mm range for infantry and power armor. EW infantry is around 10-11 mm. Those that are taller and heavier units can work, but straight infantry is too small. The simplest rule - infantry should be around half the height of the small gear.
>>96534465Would those ogres be metal or plastic?
>>96535672I'm gonna assume metal, but they could be resin. less than 1% chance they're plastic imo
>>96535696Checked the Facebook post, it didn't specify which material unfortunately. Most likely metal then. I hope they'll be in this style.
>>96533778Is there some context here I'm supposd to understand?
>>96535705I think they'll be a stylistic match for the existing Ogre in the range.Your post prompted me to check the range, though, cause I swore they already released a bunch of Ogres so was left wondering why they're doing more. Turns out the ones I was thinking of are part of the Rangers of Shadow Deep range, although to me they look exactly how I'd imagine Ogre Linebreakers to be desu
>>96535705Those are make for Gripping Beast, not Frostgrave
>>96533965Kinda waiting for the print book anyway, nothing in the pdf that wasn't in the app
Does anyone here have experience with wargamesfoundry Imperial Roman Legionaries? They look pretty dope but I can't find anything about them anywhere.
How is Conquest? Looking to buy into it for my shop, got a few starters coming to build/paint/play. The roll low seems a bit weird, but w/e.
What wargame is out there where I can field pic related?
>>96535851might want to ask in /hwg/? but also, what information do you want to know? pretty sure foundry are pretty bog standard metal sculpts, nothing surprising.
>>96536159>what information do you want to know?Material, which you covered, general level of quality on the sculpts because the advertising images are tiny and their scale in comparison to other mini ranges.I hadn;t thought of asking /hwg/ though, I'll do that now, thanks anon.
