>>96545077There is a dedicated facebook page for Australia, I know Sydney gets some minor action in terms of games and meet ups but no serious tournaments. Melbourne seems to be the hot spot for Australia Premodern, no idea if you'd travel for that but worth knowing I guess. The discord groups might also be fruitful for finding games. Anywhere you can find a Legacy scene you can usually find a Premodern scene too.If you're really trying to game you could always do webcam or MTGO leagues, although I admit these are way less fun than in person
>>96545077>>96545707There is a small premodern scene in Auckland but we play somewhat infrequently as most of the playerbase, which has large overlap with legacy, is married or has other commitments. We had a 10 player tournament for decent prizes a few weeks ago, and I'd like to see if we can get more frequent game days running. Of course that's all in New Zealand so it would just be if you're visiting, and Auckland is probably the worst part of the country to visit. I hate playing on webcam but sometimes stomach it just to test a deck or something, I think most online premodern players play on MTGO via externally organized leagues.
The custom proxies I ordered arrived at my warehouse. I won't have them in hand for a couple of weeks but I'm happy with how they look based on this photo, although looking at the files again I'd probably want to redo some of the art and flavor text. They're 0.6rmb per card with just plain white backs, or the manufacturer can print the backs for an extra 0.4 each, or do single sided foil for 3rmb.
>>96544862UG evolve was feeling much harder to make work than usual for the past year or so but I finally got it working again. I played against rakdos midrange, phoenix, mono black midrange, UW lotus field and BG sac today and won against rakdos, phoenix, mono black and UW which felt pretty great. Quantum riddler was the card I needed because it finally lets the deck run all the 1 drops it wants to without running out of gas all the time. For only 2 mana it draws 2 cards + a future riddler and pumps the evolve creatures.Generally, I found that the card draw from riddler was often just enough to get in the last few creature hits to close out the game. I got to cast it after my turn 2 11 power halo hopper nut draw and attack for 14 on turn 3 against mono black.

SPM comes out in less than a week and my LGS has 16+ stock on all singles for the set for preorder. In contrast, the week before FIN you couldn't even pre-order anything because they already had no stock (even for most commons). I couldn't be happier.

>>96552142this is the biggest problem I have with these "thematic" keywordshow the fuck can you ever reuse exhaust? what if you want to put it on a card in a set that has absolutely nothing to do with cars? To say nothing of "start your engines"
>>96552171It doesn't refer to car exhaust, anon. They can reuse it whenever, it's just a slightly more flexible monstrous. Start your engines is pretty locked in though, though I doubt anyone will be complaining if they never use it again.
>>96552202Honestly, start your engines could probably come back; but only relegated to artifacts since they tend to have power sources
>>96552202you get what I mean thoughditto for "warp"I like both exhaust and warp as mechanics but it does feel like the naming alone limits their usage
>>96551802My guess is i pissed off a developer. I almost always play my vampire deck, im sure he got pissed when i dropped a 6 mana vamp on turn 3.
>>96552239I honestly don't. I thought exhaust was a solid generic name for the concept, along with being a clever nod to cars in the set about cars. Pretty much any creature can get tired, and the idea of pushing yourself to your limits for some extra boost that leaves you exhausted is self explanatory. Warp is a bit worse off, though I think you could still manage to reuse that as long as you flavor it right with magical warping instead of sci-fi. Hell, even if they don't, they still do shit like ninjutsu even though that's very specifically on a single tribe that basically only shows up on a single plane. One off mechanics aren't the end of the world.>>96552211The speed aspect wouldn't really work though.
>>96552282>speed aspectHonestly, I forgot about that part
>>96552305Yeah, the mechanic was complete ass. I suspect they knew it too, hence why they didn't bother giving it a more generic name. I still like my idea of races being battles better, it'd fit so well.
>>96552323that IS a much better ideahowever that could potentially direct damage away from the face, and standard is an aggroGOD format now
>>96552340I don't think they've designed mechanics targeted specifically at 60 card formats for a while now. Most of them are built around commander or limited.
>>96552142or just make it tap like every other single mana ability on the fucking game
>>96552061>silly and interestingEvery deck has to play Cauldron because it's the easiest way to counter the opponent's cauldron. That and hoping to draw your abrade to shut down the opponent's cauldron if you can't get your cauldron online. Normally wotc would immediately emergency ban that shit, but they're most likely doing testing on what will pop up in the place as the most broken deck remaining. Cauldron is obvious, I don't even think Vivi will get banned. He's a popular guy from the top selling set and a good reason why the FF sold like hotcakes.

>>96551842The Premodern card pool is wider and the strategies are more varied. Old School isn't a bad time, but it has some clunkiness and is significantly more figured out than Premodern. The Premodern community accepts proxies, begrudgingly accepts new prints, and wants to play games and grow in size. The Old School community does not accept proxies, does not accept new prints outside their format range, and prefers gatekeeping over growing in size. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this approach, the OS community is cool and happy with how things are, but if you were an entrenched player with a full set of power you'd already be playing Vintage and OS and you wouldn't need any recruitment.

>>96553368Less than people think but more than what Hasbro is willing to do>print powerful sideboard strategy hosers and color hate>aggressively ban cards in all formats, monitor situation and consider a second large ban waveOptional>slow release schedule and playtest cards extensively before release>print UB with its own card back and released as a separate game using MTG rulesetGod tier>fire and replace everybody at WOTC

So we are getting the Storyline for Theros Beyond Death as a Comic that starts this week.I don't understand WotC logic with this. The creative team is at least somewhat good https://bleedingcool.com/comics/magic-the-gathering-untold-stories-elspeth-1-preview-comeback/
how did they fuck up this game so badlyall they had to do was keep making good sets with fun mechanics without ratcheting up the power levels and mtg could've kept going until the end of time.
>>96553694Because for the game to be good splashy combo cards have to be bad so that its novel and fun when they do manage to pop off. When splashy combo cards are good and a dominant strategy its the most boring shit to play against. There's a bunch of really solid reasons why they want the combo decks to be good but none of them justify the end result of the game being incredibly frustrating to play if these strategies are too good too often.
>>96553596t: all the 4-of staples are over 10 bucks
>>96553694Because as much as people here deny it, sets that aren't powercrept are widely seen as shitty wastes of time by those same people, so WotC has no real incentive to not embrace powercreep.
>>96553724Staples (PLAYS SETS) over 10 bucks in pauper using TCG player extortion level pricing>Xblast played in every colored deck in every format they are legal>Mental note (just for one deck)>Great furnace/vault of whispers (barely)>SSS (one deck)>Snap (barely) (literally also played in only 1 deck)Number of those that are new (first printed into the last 10 years)>Literally noneI'd check the other formats, but I'd struggle to find a single staple that costs less than 10 bucks for a single lmao.
>>96553596>Paupershill >Posts a mind breaking truth nukeIconic post, adding it to the budget copypasta.
>>96553688
>>96552788Why would you even want to? There's dozens of other better hobbies at this point. MTG as a game is in a death spiral. This is a consumer product that pretends to be a game to hook in new people.
>>96553810>but compared todoesn't mean it's cheap. I'm not paying 10 bucks for snuff outs and petals either
Hot take Balance is the community's purviewwotc is financially motivated to create a treadmill of product and cash grabs from ips, they are not financially motivated to create a good eternal format
>>96554065Magic has been dying for a decade according to you people.
>>96554168You've been dying for over a decade and I pray you end it soon
>>96554183You first, faggot. Magic will outlive us both.
>>96554198You'd be saying the same thing if the game wasn't played anymore but hasbros shares were up because collectors were the entire consumer base. And you will
>>96554147>Balance is the community's purviewUnfortunately the tournament regulatory authority is also WotCBring back the DCI
>>96544930Right there with you, anon. Used to be one of the most honest combo decks too before the evoke elementals made it another degenerate deck in modenr.
>>96553688Only 5 years late
>>96553688The art is actually pretty decent. WotC must have drip-fed the artist's pay for them to take so long to deliver on this comic.
>>96554168Imagine thinking the current state of this game, living from outsider IPs, printing slop after slop and shoehorning the throats of their "customers" with product after product in a vain attempt to save Hasbro which is indeed dying according to any market research you actually waste a little of time to make, all of this could be called being "alive"? Lol, lmao even. In a decade if this game even last so long the only thing that will remain will be formats like Premodern, that the greed can touch and obviouly the bunch of retards that play "Cummander"
>>96554265NTA, but it's obviously going to keep going off normalfag inertia. WotC doesn't care that you don't like it, they care that it makes them money, and as long as there are people buying it doesn't matter whether the old guard is happy or not.
>>96551656Because JoTC did something cool for once, using the different printed languages to celebrate real world cultures. But printing other languages undermines the ((bottom line)), so you'll get less than half of these printed languages now, and since the paypig goy-cattle who will be buying up UB (soon to be most of cards made each year) are primarily English speaking westerners, no need for anything other than English!! So no, you'll never get something like this ever again!
>>96554338>the Russian one was either never distributed or incredibly hard to findI wanted to collect them but having an incomplete collection and the prices on some of them made me reconsider
>>96554259The comic has probably only been in production for 6 months as I think that's when Dark Horse got the licence from IDW
