Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
Is this card good? I have one but it doesn't seem to fit in any of my green decks. I think I just don't have enough basic-searching ramp
>no sleeves>no mat>no proxies>no ordering singles online>no deckboxes, rubber band or sandwich bag only>riffle shuffles>don't upload the decklist into moxfield/tappedout/whatever Raw edh is comfy as fuck.
>>96547119I think this card is specifically good in lands decks that run lots of rampant growth effects and run B2B or Bloom Moon and want to break the symmetry
>>96547119You have 1% chance to pull this card. Assuming you have even 10 basic landfind cards in deck, that's more or less a 0.1% chance each game that you'll find this card and a land search card to use it with. You're also looking at needing at least 6 mana to pull it off, all to find a nonbasic you could find with anything like Crop Rotation or Archdruids Charm. So to answer your question: yes it's a good card and you should include it in every green deck you have.
one has to make room for the other. who makes the cut in your deck?

I moved these decks onto scryfall cause you guys pressured me to stop using tappedout. What do you think? I know sensei's divining top is busted (I goldfish'd with it and it's super fun) but melek feels bad enough that I p much need it. I'm proxxying it but it would be cool to own an original Kamigawa printed copy.I would especially appreciate help refining the Melek deck. I would like to focus the deck's win con on commander damage and big swings with unblockables/flyers and clearing the board with copied removal. But prowess weenies Assault strobe and monstrous rage are OOS at my LGS unfortunately so i might have to proxxy them like I did for ponder and sol ring. I'm working on a Rakdos pile based around the engine of Toggo making rocks and Fransisco able to explore to gain more lands to make rocks + activate explore for card advantage. I also have an artifact sacrifice/reanimation thing going on in it. I already figured out equipping rocks to death touchers turns any creature in to a killing machine so I added Falthis. >>96547426>he doesn't use penny sleeves only, that are a good 5-7% too big to comfortably snug the cards and that make the cards in the deck stick together insanely fast, to keep himself on edge via this self imposed sensory nightmare so you focus more on the game for more winsthe only thing performative here are my high performance meta strategies

>>96547839I played this three times in my EDH career. Each time, I instantly became Archenemy and died before even two turns had passed. Turning off everyone's draws was fine, apparently, it was the fact that I was more or less taking them that earned their ire. Ultimately designed it wasn't worth it.
>>96547935No it doesnt. You dont have to give opinions you know. The biggest reason is its mono color. Meaning you can splash it where wheels are present. Whereas notion thief needs dimir at least.
>>96547854Just about every stax card is asymmetrical when you consider you're really only including them in decks that wouldn't feel them anyway.Like of you plan to outpace the namesake smokestack, is it really a stax piece to yourself?

>>96547908Notion thief into a wheel gives you a shit ton of cards, but nothing more. Hullbreacher costs less, still gives you enough cards and mana to play them. The mana cost is also a huge factor, but that dynamic alone already makes it incredibly nasty if you ask me. It's not even hard to flash in at three mana.
>>96547976Its okay to not understand game terminology but it exists for a reason and it is not a semantical one. It is a very real mechanical distinction between the two types of cards. I know being a zoomer is hard and being new to a culture is even harder but learning is easy and trying to disregard the culture only makes you look like a moron.>>96547958Wrong and retarded from top to bottom lol

>>96547908>Is the one extra mana cost that important?Yes but realistically the decision probably didn't come to "hmmm Hullbreacher has much less restrictive mana costs" it came down to some loser on the RC losing to it once and deciding it's too strong

>>96548013These cards are weak but mostly fine if they synergize with your strategy. >>96548013funky, some decks care about generating tolen artifacts and these are aggressive ways to do sounfortunately not the best ways to do so, but treasures are always nice
>>96548142A lot of decks were garbage because you wanted to build around some dumb bad card you drafted and a lot of decks were powerful because you are picking up rares constantly over time, not to mention if you opened a standard staple and traded it. idk man my selvala deck was built entirely off of drafted/traded cards. It's pretty good. >tfw opened a mana crypt during draft it's easy to overlook just how many solid EDH staples show up in the average non-Standard draft.
>>96548152Yo grandpa, maybe you haven't swwn the average precon today but they run GCs like skullclamp and dauthi voidwalker
>>96548013>decks have become generally so powerful and boardwipes as well as other multi target spot removal pieces are so efficient now, that you can't even afford to lowball and play jank, because no matter how weak the pieces you deploy, you will not be left alone for even half a turn rotation grim
>>96546955This one, of course. I played this one game and made someone concede on turn 2 because they took an extremely greedy hand with lots of mana rocks and only 1 land.
>>96548131Why don't more people play Stasis? Seems really good but I've never even someone play it.
>>96548231Because nobody will want to play with you if you run Stasis regularly. It's boring and slows the game to a crawl if played normally, and it is ALWAYS played in a dishonest manner where the controller blinks it on their turn so they are the only one playing the game.
>>96548231It makes fags tilt and seethe. Solid in Derevi and PW Teferi.
>>96548231check the EDHrec salt list for the answer

>>96548229>concede to something that will probably be gone in 1 turn cyclelolestill a great card though>>96548231because you have to build around to either have a lock or at least break parity and you cant just slam it for generic value it also makes people seethe uncontrollably no matter how its played
>>96548231It's the ultimate "you aint get invited again" card
>>96548212>>96548156Im not going to speak to any if that but they atmosphere of EDH has changed. Your draft leftovers decks are not winning against normal modern EDH decks. That may not be true for someone who has been drafting for 20 years and his leftovers are a collection of staples and shit but most people aint in that situation
>>96548235Because its a bad card outside of having your necessary build around on the board. This goes with most stax and why stax has largely fallen out of favour.

>>96548976Fuck you Rigger
>>96549016But does this work if I play blood moon THEN rootpath?
How does coat of arms work with the cards that make enchantments creatures? They have no stated type, they're just Enchantment Creature Creature.
>>96548831I really wish I could because I think the vibe of bloodborne is neat but have no desire to play that genre of game. I can offer a (you) for you though. However I would advise against putting stasis in your deck reguardless of intent because of how big of a target it puts on your back. At the very least what I would do is bring a side board with some card(s) you could swap out for it when the table inevitably tells you to KYS for playing it. (It's literally the #1 or #2 card on edhrec salt list every single year since they made it in 2019)

>>96549152I liked his hands off approach to the format, he seemed to genuinely love playing shitpiles (based) but also loved wotc. He is also the reason leadership sucked after he left as he prioritized inclusion over vision. I'm not sure how much influence he had in total but these were his beliefs and they were reflected in the actions of the RC.
>>96549159running it in decks that can sacrifice it instead of seeing your opponents go apeshit over it is the absolute pussy application >mfw I have a sweaty friend who thinks exactly like you, so it's up to me to jazz up the board with the fun mechanics

>>96549325I would agree for the most part except with council's judgment they're gone for good whereas grasp of fate leaves the possibility of them coming back.If you're good at politics you can remove more than one thing from a single player's board if you need to hate someone out of the game too. Funny enough turn order is quite impactful to the resolution of the card.I'm not going to pretend like grasp isn't the better card to run in most situations but there is some dynamics that makes council more interesting.
>the wife found secret lairs uh oh
>>96549410This is something I'm starting to have familiarity with. I'm into Heroscape (finally got revived!) and the first fucking crossover in the reboot, the second crossover EVER is fucking G.I. Joe! Thankfully, the models look good and have decent rules, so I can't complain too much.

>>96549641It really is. My friends are starting to really get into it too, though it will be a while before any but one actually gets units to face me, rather than draft from my collection. That's OK tho, it let's me set the power level of our local meta and I'm not to interested in it going overboard.Who's your favorite general and what are your favorite units? My favorite generals are Vydar and Utgar. Still deciding on my favorite units, though I'm warming up to Evil Realin and Loveattack.
>>96548817Not a single Frazetta chick, not that I'm surprised of course but what a shame
>>96548817I'm confused. They're re-releasing this?
>>96549699My daughter and I got into the original release while we were waiting for the new release to drop after seeing it at a convention. We haven't got bored with the old stuff yet so were just chunking away games with Rise of the Valkyrie. I let my daughter pick my army most times but I'd definitely put Ne-Gok-Sa and the Marro Warriors at the top of the list aside from the obviously busted Raelin
>>96549646The cool thing about Grasp is that the opponents are somewhat discouraged to remove it to get their stuff back, because it gives the other two theirs back as well; that is if they even are in colors that can easily remove Enchantments. For the most part, the stuff is long enough gone to matter a lot - much like how picrel is just a very sweet spot removal piece.Voting cards are certainly more fun to play and Councils Judgement is far from being bad
>>96549726it's the sequel to the beloved cult classic

>>96549739>Ne-Gok-Sa and the Marro WarriorsPlayed them both my first game, managed to mindshakle someone first time and the Marro Warriors are just so good. Raelin is fucking great, I think my playgroup is slowly making a unspoken rule not to draft her unless someone is playing some real bullshit. Though not in either Master set, my girlfriend loves lava so much, I got her a bunch of lava tiles and a unit to take advantage of them: Shurrak. Fucker chucks people into lava like it's his day job, dreading when she finally gets her lava crabs.

Why are "investors" shitting and pissing themselves over the fact that people want a physical Omenpaths set release? No one expected it to be a multiplanar trip across Magic's most popular settings, so it's not like people are calling the investors any more retarded than usual
>>96550352thats another thing with these fancy artworks:the Dark Ritual is super cool, but its much nicer having a playable permanent with a fancy artwork so you can have a longer gander at it during gameplay

Especially since most boxes don't even make their fucking money back at RRP.But they have nothing to worry about for at least the next year or so, because Disney will be having the same pant-browning experience right now. I guarantee you that their contract with WotC included a minimum ROI and a percentage thereafter, and WotC won't jeopardize fulfilling that obligation by announcing that they will print Omen Paths, and potentially sell less Spider-Man.Maybe in a year or two they'll be able to without getting sued.
Who's ready for the state of design article where Mark says OM1 created "unnecessary confusion" and was a mistake they won't be repeating?
>>96550461>has already sold like crazySCALPERSI don't know how many times you need it explained to you that there are thousands of people willing to gamble on UB releases and they will buy up all the stock whether the set goes on to be popular or not. >>96550497The "lesson" WotC learn from any mistake is always the one that conveniently fits their narrative. This has been the case since Homelands where the lesson should have been "People don't like you making a set all reprints of shit cards without telling them," but instead the lesson was "people want a reserved list."You're absolutely going to see WotC claim that the reason Spider-Man tanked was because of OM1 "creating confusion" and discontinuing it with new license agreements.
>>96550507Yes, but remember that he's base 0 power, so he needs something to boost his power as well (like an explore trigger from some other pirate).

>>96550575>You're absolutely going to see WotC claim that the reason Spider-Man tanked was because of OM1 "creating confusion" and discontinuing it with new license agreements.Eh maybe. They're going to have to address the overwhelming popularity of Omen Paths though. There's plenty of online-only cards, some I'd even want to see printed, but there's never been such a strong community demand to have online cards printed before, and especially not when functionally the online cards are identical to cards that are being printed. It's a massive slap in the face for a marketing team that has been lying to its own consumer-base to push lucrative tie-ins for shareholders.>>96550585>Accept reality insteadLmao take your own advice. >>96550708Magic has literally never been more popular at any point in its existence than it has been in the last 5 years. Again, retards are just coping that their children's card game has images on its cardboard they don't like. It's no different than Standardfags crying about how Commander is the dominant format and copeseething that "surely Commander will implode and the clock will wind back to 2001 and Standard will thrive again". No, there's no rewinding the clock boomtards. Shit will change no matter how much it makes you seethe and reee. If Commander ever collapsed there'd be no return to Standard glory, people would just stop playing the game and the company would collapse. If UB starts to fail, there won't be a return back to "old magic", Hasbro needs the constant influx of new players and licensing bux and mega boom sets UB brings. If that shit dries up the company folds and the game dies.Of course UB having diminishing returns and collapsing the company is inevitable, whether it takes 1 year, 5, or 10. I hope it's sooner rather than later, because MTG is a shit game that needs to die so better systems get the influx of players, but for the immediate future UB is and will continue to be successful and saying otherwise because a middle aged YouTuber made a video crying about a set doesn't change the reality the majority of the player base falls into the "Don't care" to "Excited" range for Spiderman and other upcoming UB, and the increasingly cringe boomtard sentiment of "dis aint muh magick" is the vast minority.

This would be a real funny deck if there were cards that had unconditional "pay X life to add X mana" stuff. There only seems to be two, though: Blood Celebrant (kinda) and Lord of the Forsaken which sucks. Just pay a ton of life for mana, cast him. Then pay a ton of newly-gained life and flicker him. You could always just self-mill/discard a bunch of flicker cards and cast the flicker spells with the 30+ mana from Lord of the Forsaken though

>>96551631luckily if you just want y'shtola's appearances, you don't have to play the latest expac that everyone hates. it's an OK but aging tab-target MMO, the (somehow) unique bit that it does is that it lets you do everything on one character. you can be every class and do all rep quests and get all the collectables etc without having to have multiple characters. free trial is through stormblood (level 70) now, so you'll get her famous line, but she does have some more screentime in the one after that.
>>96551750>>96551761You both got it wrong.Monarch is literally the kingmaking mechanic, as one player grabs it early and mostly likely will keep it most of the game - because he not only had the creature presence to take it but also to hold it, and thus will likely ride to an easy win with his Ressource advantage, crowning him king

As someone who is totally clueless, is there a specific reason Arena doesn't have commander?
>>96552005it only has 2 player modes
>>96552005A) they couldn't be bothered to code itB) see A
>>96552005Probably a game engine thing. You’d be surprised, if the game was designed for 2 players it’s extremely difficult to make it work for 4 player games, it would probably need to be done from scratch
>>96552005>>96552009Furthermore, brawl was created as a format by wizards because they didn't control commander. They also wanted to emphasize the standard card pool (the brawl format was originally meant to be a 60 card format using only standard cards) and possibly turn it into a real new competitive format. However it never really caught on outside of the staff at Arena who really liked brawl and pushed to make it an official part of their game.
>>96552040>competitive formatEverything else aside, everyone who tries to make a children's cars game """competitive""" should be fucked with a rusty rake. These aspies belong in the same bin as "no items, fox only, final destination" Smash players. Just goof around with a funny deck and have fun.
>>96552040I for one am glad they pushed on with brawlit's a cool format
>>96552005They're working on it. Very early stages, still trying to figure out how to have four players' boards be readable with the interface.

How much removal do you guys run in decks? I usually strive for 20+ cards that have some form of destroy, exile, etb destroy, etc.
>>96552240Like 6?
>>96552240Depends on the deck but anywhere from 5-10 usually
>>96552227If you want consistency in deck do thing=Win just build a generic Krenko deck with all the big cards and combos If you want budget fun Xyris Buff spells is pretty fun especially when you draw 10 cards every turn If you want your friends to hate you and you wanna win and pub stomp idk nekusar wheels is pretty consistent with enough tutors and countersif you don't care about winning and just want fun like the deck isn't supposed to win chaos decks usually are the answer but some people hate that too gotta be more specific on the play style and decks you run
>>9655224020 is about right. At least 12 that can hit a single creature, 3 sweepers, and some flex spots for other permanents. Counterspells count.
>>96552240>20+ cards that have some form of destroy, exile, etb destroy, etc.You sound completely awful to play against. And I say this as someone who has a friend with a Maha deck with that much removal and I want to throw her fucking deck into the fireplace
>>96552288speaking of Xyris repill me on sergeant benton, am I missing something or you have to draw a minimum of 70 cards per game and if something goes wrong you might actually deck yourself?
>>96552291in a average 3 color deck that doesn't have green in it's identity I feel like it is necessary in modern commander to run that much removal especially when everyone is dropping bomb after bomb like rhystic the one ring tithe etc. like if someone drops the one ring and then has it for 5 turns you're boned or if they drop their bloodthirsty 2 card combo on turn 5 like someone has to respond
>>96552333>rhystic the one ring tithe etc.None of my friends play tryhard loser cards like that. The most expensive card in all of our decks combined is Yarok, and he's like 3bux

>>96552306Sergeant benton I never built just cause selesnya is kinda limiting and I think he's more voltron than Xyris, In the xyris budget deck I have I run windfall lab maniac and impact tremors to make it more reliable in winning but in a Sergeant deck I suppose you could run the green spells or artifacts that shuffle your graveyard into your library to not deck yourself

>>96552478Jesus that sounds boring as fuck. It's just 5c goodpile but less colors. If it fits the commander's theme then yeah sure I guess? But you're leaving way less room for actually fun/on-theme cards

Ardyn player
Played my first game with my Fransisco/Toggo deck and it was magical Christmas land. All my jank synergies and combos worked exactly as I planned it in my head. I drew Falthis and he turned Toggo and Fransisco in to death rock throwing machines, able to keep the table clear of any big threats. I drew Weapons manufacturing early and built up a huge munitions pile throughout the game no one payed attention to. I got Dargo out early for 1 mana. I reanimated Bolas's Citadel with Goblin Welder and it hard carried me throughthe midgame. Dead to combat next turn, I realized I could sac my munitions pile i'd been building up all game with Citadel and killed off the table. Feels good when a new deck goes exactly to plan. I know not every game will go exactly perfect like this but it gave hope that Frank and Togg aren't just a useless jankpile and the tine buildingit and theorycrafting wasn'ta waste. The moral of the story is that Bolas's Citadel is busted.
>>96552085They're literally too retarded to figure it out.
>>96552673The way I look at Superior is that he has more consistency going for him. You're not going to have an issue with needing two creatures, or needing an opponent to mill cards. But he doesn't get 8 +1's or whatever if a second big creature is in a graveyard.
