Too bad mono Hobgrots isn't permitted. I'd love a Hobgrots + Blorcs army

>>96553523but black orcs absolutely loathe hobgoblins?also can't you just use the profiles of normal goblins? how do you think the rules of hobgobs on foot or on wolves would differ from the ones of normal goblins? normal goblins even have the nasty backstabbers whose profile you can use for your hobgoblin sneaky gits
>>96553599Ever thought of adding some red or blue war paints?
>>96553622Been thinking about trying that out actually. I’m just afraid of ruining the model if it doesn’t look good. But if it when I try it the gunnea pig would most likely be the Gor of War, the fella on the first rank on the right
>>96553523>hobgrotsOut, satan.
Dunno if any of you remember but I'm the bloke from a few days ago who lost all my warhammer in a car fire. Some good news I was able to go to my car and see what can be recovered, somehow there were actually a few bits of warhammer left, and while the fire seems to have burned through some of the glue, the models themselves remain ok. It's only a handful of the models I had with me but as far as I'm concerned this is a good result and much better than I thought, especially as some of the Fimir survived. I'm planning on making a new army themed around these guys as the last survivors of their tribe after a Jack O'Cinders destroyed them. I'm thinking (assuming insurance money comes through) going Warriors of Chaos rather than Beastmen, with the remaining ungor becoming a Marauder champion, the Diarch becoming a chaos sorceror and sticking the remaining normal fimir on a chariot and he's my banner bearer. That or the Beastmen Shaman themed list I forgot the name of which ultimately could work a bit better. In any case I'm happy that some of the lil rape demons survived.

>>96553432>WDThere are currently 647 WD issues, 516 monthly & 131 weekly, spanning 48 years. Pretty tough for me to single just one out, but I really like #291 and #293, both from 2004.The former has a cool article about Sylvania and the von Draks, as well as having a neat tutorial on how to make a Bretonnian peasant house, and the latter talks about Storm of Chaos for the first time.

>>96553844>Just another hundred or so to goI have like 150 Bretonnians to paint so I'm cleaning and assembling all of them before I even touch a brush, I cba to go back and forth that many times for each unit

I know GW love pauldrons but are this guy’s shoulders not ridiculously wide? The model looks silly with that tiny human head on top of shoulders 10x its width
>>96555230Pauldrons are fine, the fur trimming on his cloak is very fluffy and adds a lot of volume.
Gonna start a WAAAGH /tg/. Is this viable for a 1k army? Between Orks&Goblins, Chaos and the Empire whos do you think the most fun is?
>>96555584For Chaos, they are"fun" but can sometimes feel very one dimensional. Move forward, ram the enemy. If you make it mostly intact, you should win. If not, GG.It is fun when your chaos knights utterly annihilate a unit in a turn but it is very easy to fall into roster traps like putting too much points into chaos warriors ir not having hounds for screening. I like them but after playing over a dozen or so games, it can feel stale.

>>96554802>>96554899Can't wait to start an Estalian Border Princes army when the book comes out
>>96553432Hey ladsI'm going to be running a version of Keep on the Borderlands in TOW RPG, and I was wondering if anyone has a better idea for a kobold substitute than just more goblins? I'm leaning more towards ghouls, because I have a ton of models, but I don't really want to go through the narrative hurtle of justifying undead in a place like the cave where the kobolds are in module.
Newbie question, is there like a """cheap""" way to get into the Empire, High Elves and Dwarfs? Not necessarily talking about buying original vs printing, but having a 2000 point army that's a small amount of elite models, like having an all Terminator army in 40k, but without going crazy with giant stuff like a lot of dragons (expensive to buy, pain in the ass to print at least for me).
>>96555952Warhammer Ghouls are just mutated Cannibal humans, they don't need a Necromancer to exist. So you don't really need a justification for them.Skaven are another option
>>96555684Good. My thanks. Can't wait to krump some gits!!!>>96555696An Orc and Gobbo army without trolls is like a squig which aint red. Just not right.
>>96555952beastmen are a good option, as in fluff they can be any animal + human combo you can think of (despite the official models being just hooved stuff). if you wanted you could take gnoll/kobold/etc models from anywhere and use them as beastmen.
>>96555965dwarfs are the easiest to do this with, take a block of elite infantry + lord + a couple cannons and that’s most of your 2k points handled right there
>>96555976True, but I worry about giving my players a false lead since they will see an undead connection where there isn't one necessarily. And I play to include an undead/vampire element elsewhere on the map. Still, they could work.I'm thinking about including Skaven, but I'm under the impression that Skaven are default made out of tissue paper like D&D Kobolds or Goblins.>>96556090Good point. I could just make them little idiot beastmen. I do plan to replace the Gnolls and Bugbears later in the module with Beastmen. Which is tight, because I cam just leave the minotaur as a minotaur.
Decided to update the village map I made >>96548500 and toned down the amount of burgher quarters and made the large hill the sole property of the village lord. Also made it not to be Rheiden, I am saving that for when making a larger town instead of a village. So here's some updated fluff I wrote for the village. Feel free to use this stuff when playing warhammer, old world or the RPG doesn't matter to me.>Village of FirnilsFirnils has a population of roughly 1300 souls, and is one of many settlements along the Hochgran Woodland's edge. Most are farmers, loggers, or craftsmen, with the rest made up of traders, priests, and wealthier guildsmen. The village lies upon a major road, frequented by those traveling west to Grenzburg or beyond that onto Wolfenburg at the foot of the Middle Mountains, or else heading north to the Kislevite port of Erengrad. Its lifeblood is logging and timber trade, aided by the Elchdoom Brook where freshly felled trees are carried down to the great sawmill, which are later treated and worked on before being sent downstream to the wider river Talabec. Farming produces only a meager surplus, enough to sustain the folk through winters and leaner years. The village is divided into several main areas: the craftsmen quarter, the guild quarter, the guard district, and the noble estate with its sweeping gardens and lawns where the village lord holds his revels. The settlement is ruled by the Gemeindherr, the village lord. In the year 2276 this office is held by Archibald von Kraftstal, once a boisterous knight of the Empire who lucked into the lordship through distant family ties and timely favors. Age has left him greedy and heavy of girth, hoarding wealth in his estate and ensuring his table is never bare. Yet he is shrewd enough not to overtax the guilds, knowing better than to rouse discontent among the villagers who enrich him.>1/2
>>96556133*are NOT default made out of tissue paper
>>96556134Beyond him, the most powerful families are the Derevoka and Tredfell, rival logging guilds whose auctions dominate market days, and only closely followed by the family running the swamill. Their wealth and competition fuel much of the village’s economy and development.Firnils has not been spared the wrath of the forest of shadows. Since 2270, the village has endured a series of rampaging attacks by the nascent beastmen warherd of the Horned Moon-Kin. Some assaults were repelled with little loss, others left homes and workshops in flames before the foe was driven back by the town’s handgunners. Always, the beastmen return to the depths of the Hochgran, leaving only ash and unease in their wake.Today, life continues: villagers trade, work, and pray, yet all are watchful of the treeline. The woodcutters of the great families no longer dare venture as deep into the Hochgran, for the forest seems darker than before and rumors of moment at the treeline keeps everyone alert.>2/2
>>96555965For Empire best value boxes are 1 Battalion box and 1 or 2 box of Knights. Steam Tank from Battalion box is 265 pts alone. Troops from Battalion and Knights boxes could be proxied as CharactersAdd the Imperial Griffon Box which will net you a General on Griffon, plus a couple of other Character options that can go on horseback from the Knights box.(Optional) Characters are in a fairly cheap 'Empire Commanders box' which will get you an Army standard Bearer and Captain.Install Old World Builder to plan your army. Max out your units and characters with magic items, options and upgrades and you'll be well on your way to 2000 points. All these boxes are available from 3rd parties so youll get a 20% discount so it wll be less than 200 quid.
>>96554802>>No savage orc list.Just fuck my shit
>>96556133It's not a false lead if they can be used as a plot thread to tie into something related to Gashnag or just some random strigoi. Maybe these ghouls are a splinter tribe or warband that somehow broke off from a larger ghoul colony somewhere else.
>>96554802>>96554899Need a bit more info, all of these are pretty guessable and generic in terms of "leaks"
>>96554802This is bullshit, TK are a top army and new rules for them would absolutely not be ignored by influences. You just didnt want to get a guess about the mount and new magic stuff wrong.
>>96556380I think the new rules are just stats for the new models that are coming with the book, since Barded War horses are new to the TK and whatever "incantations of the Mortuary Cult" are
>>96556398Sure, but influences would not be ignoring them considering TK is a competitive army. Saying "not covering the campaign plot" is fine because nobody would care. Not covering rules that could impact balance/strats? fat chance.
best way to remove grass from a plastic hill? I want to change its colors
>>96553432Happy to say I've finally got my group to try the WFRP system, and they all seem pretty interested. Have a warrior priest novice, amethyst wizard apprentice, a brigand hired to be the apprentice's bodyguard while the master wizard's away, and a noble scion who's really into poetry. I was planning on taking them through the Rough Nights and Hard Days campaign and then either moving into Enemy Within or my own adventures, and would appreciate any tips or advice.
Wish I could take Leadbelchers with Chorfs. Would be fitting.
>>96556520Rough Nights Hard days is generally decent,t but there is a lack of combat, so you might need to deal with that. The Court adventure is the weakest of the four.if you want to transition to TEW I don't think RNHD is the best choice unless you want to skip Shadows over Boganhafen and move straight onto Death on the Reik
>>96556961how? belchers are a disorganised bunch wielding an assortment of stolen cannons full of scraps.
>>96557225Chorfs are mentioned to supply them with cannons as trades so it would stand to reason that mercenary ogres working for them would have some cannons
>>96553822Always a silver lining, now they have a story.
>>96557301ok but then you're not saying leadbelchers are a fitting thing for them, you'd be talking about some unit purposefully converted to fit in, then anything can fit.
You guys see much cathay at your lgs? What would you say are the most and least popular armies in general in your area actually
I'm new getting into TOW and I found an article on the Warhammer Community website with this herald from July. But the guy isn't in the webstore at all. Has he not come out yet, or has he come and gone?
>>96557728Still has to come out, better luck a few weeks from now.
>>96557485Having talked to a few owners/employees at non-GW branded stores Cathay is both popular and being pushed hard by GW. One guy mentioned that they wanted him to have Cathay at a full 50% of his total old world stock but that he can’t sell all of it even though Cathay is the #1 selling faction since it got released. As far as players Empire/Cathay/Beastmen are the most popular in that order. I see basically 0 legacy armies that aren’t Skaven. That said the game isn’t very popular where I'm at right now so take this as basically anecdotal and not “data” per se.
>>96557732I'm patient. Happy to hear I didn't miss out. GW seems allergic to publishing release dates.
>>96556983I see, so there's a bit more needing to push in combat if the players want it, and given one is a warrior priest they likely will. This is all helpful, thank you. I'm not sure if I want to move to TEW but the adventure brings it up so I felt it was worth it. The other option is using some of the hooks and ideas in RNHD and the Riekland buildings book to set up some beastman drama or cult mysteries stuff.
>>96557762considering RNHD ends in Uberireks it might not be the work idea to look at all the ubersreik adventures books, Heart of Glass adventure is a very easy transistion thanks to it's "quest giver" being an observer charecter in the last RNHD adventure, the book even surgest if the PC impress her she might offer them more work
>>96557736Very interesting, it doesn't surprise me that gw is pushing cathay so much and why it's selling well, unlike with other armies nobody really had any pre-existing collections and so have to start from scratch. Probably also why their battalion box has such a great discount on brand new mini's. 50% of total stock seems insane though.Empire makes sense, especially after total war. Beastmen are a bit of a surprise though, they were never really that popular in whfb. Never really caught on in aos either.
>>96557797That's some great advice, thank you! A true champion of Sigmar, you are.
Anyone lurking around in here have any experience using AOS slaves to darkness models in OW? How was getting the models to rank up?
>>96557990You gotta snip em off a bit like you're foreskin for it to be well in place. overall they're fine though.
>>96557855this is my personal speculation but the relative popularity of beastmen isn’t surprising, they’ve had semi recent model releases that were good and a recent book release that was very good (strong and unique items, good magic, fun and varied army options, etc) that + the WoC mostly sucking makes them the premier “evil” faction for old world atm.
This makes me want to put small UV leds in the bases

With some more plastic TK being released, do you think they’ll take another pass at Brets and update grail/questing/kotr?

>>96558629one
>>96558547who cares there are plenty of 3d prints around, get those instead.
>>96558547I'd like to say that's what they're planning considering Questing and Grail knights are almost never in stock, but it's possible they are just lazy and don't see the point in keeping stock on units that """competitively""" don't see much play. Sick paintjob by the way, the Highlands knights really look fantastic painted up.
>>96558660Thank you !
>>96558629One by default, +1 if you shoot at a large target, +1 if you're on a hill and +1 once per game if you play Nuln

Skirmish games player coming over to The Old World here, do you guys have some system for painting the models in bulk or something? I'm used to painting up like 10 models for a team/party so I take my time and give them individual details but still get things done in a few days. But when I see that a box in this game have like 20 models each and you need multiple I wonder how do you get it done and start playing within a year or something.
>>96559864I usually paint around 10 dudes in a large group, then a paint a character, monster, elite unit, etc before moving over to another 10 or so dudes, then I continue to alternate like that. Keeps me from burning out.
>>96559864one step x20 at a time instead of doing each model fully than doing another. Not being stuck on the details that nobody's going to see. It's about the unit as a whole looking good. You can get away with doing details only for the front row.And personally, I dry brush a lot.
>>96559864chain painting really.Depending on how you do thigns you could1-Do all skin first, then all armour, then details+weapons and then basing.2-do all base paint all over the model, then the layeringThe first rank might be well done, but the others are merely overly represented wound markers.

>>96560947So the main one is WFRP uses d100 for its Dice. It's thematically a bit grimmer and grubbier than DnD, so at least at the start of a campaign, your low-level characters are generally going to be Peasants, Rat Catchers, pouchers, etc.The stereotype of a WFRP adventure is pretty similar to Call of Cthulhu, namely, uncovering evil Cults of Chaos Worshipers, or inhuman creatures attacking society from without, like Beastmen or Skaven.Dealing with maybe with assumed early modern politics is also pretty common in WFRP, such as sectarian tensions between major Religions or class conflict between the old money Nobility, the nouveau riche Merchant Class and the increasingly educated Working class, thanks to inventions like the printing press.
>>96560947CoC is a good comparison, as WFRP in some way originated from it.WFRP is a d100, roll under system. Attribute + skill (plus/minus difficulty), count successes. Sometimes, the successes are compared to your opponent. WFRP 4e does this for combat and other situations.Supposedly, characters are randomly rolled. Instead of D&D-like heroic classes, you can end up rolling a villager, a physician, a bawd, a soldier or a priest. There are also careers like knights, wizards, bandits, that look more suited to adventuring. Often times, GMs don't enforce to roll for careers and races. Your characters have careers instead of classes, and therefore jobs, positions to maintain, a social role to play.Adventures can vary a lot. The CoC influences are noticeable whenever chaos, cults, mutants and other horror elements take the center. Characters can go made or mutate, though that often means that things go horribly wrong. You can also do political games, wilderness exploration, even dungeon crawling and more combat-focused games. Though, contrary to D&D, injuries can put your characters out of action quickly and the game is certainly deadlier.
