I recently found out that mixing armypainter's speedpaint medium with AP washes (usually in equal parts) results in some nice acrylic wash shading. >https://youtu.be/YBQvcezm1ik?t=599Anybody here try oil/enamel washes able to comment on how this wash mix stacks up to those established shading methods?
Finished this teleport homer.Pretty grim. Pretty dark. I like it.Will never do OSL ever again.
>>96579756I have only used some enamel washes/panel liners and some weathering products. Generally those give you a much stronger color than acrylic washes so they're very good for adding definition to the recesses. You can also easily feather them out with mineral spirits.
I wanna do a slushy snowy terrain that looks set but isn't quite dirty yet, maybe with a couple of footprints, so I was thinking of>irregular layer of brown Astrogranite or whatever>layer of PVA glue + baking soda + white paint smeared all over to give it "mass">sprinkles of picrel on terrain and feet/legs of the miniReal question is, how do I make the powder stick? I considered a layer of glossy varnish after the second step but I dunno if that works
>>96580519Horrible idea. Those powders are shit. Get the paste stuff instead.
>>96580519>>96580541Microballoon snow mixed with a fluid gloss varnish is the best option. Little varnish makes for fresh powdery snow and more varnish makes the snow slushier.
>>96580519don't use baking soda if you can spare 10 bucks, it's not 2002, get a fluffly snow productwhile said product is wet you can sprinkle microballons on top and they will stick
>>96580607>>96580569Ok ye makes sense, dunno why I hadn't considered sprinkling while the middle layer is still wet
Stupid question, but - should I force myself to paint even if I don't really want to for reasons unknown? I mean, I have few models that are primed and ready to paint but when I look at them, I feel some sort of repulsive reaction to idea of painting them. Which is weird because I normally like painting and getting better. But at the same time, I feel bad about building some other models or doing other stuff while they wait here and grow in dust layer. I don't know what could that be, I hope it's just temporary and not permanently losing joy in painting. That would be awful.
>>96580703yes, you should. I was once like you, but now I really enjoy painting. Always broaden your horizons, anon.
>>96580703Usually when I don't feel like painting but sit down to do it anyway I start to enjoy myself as soon as I put some paint on a mini. So maybe try to actually paint and if you still won't feel like it you can stop then.
>>96580703Paint whatever you want. I can go months without painting because I have some models to paint that I don't really want to. You're better off just putting paint on something that interests you. Doing that might lead into painting the thing you have to.
Started on some custodes shadowkeepers. This will take a while...
>>96581036What are the swords from?
>>96581090Conversionworld weapons from archie's forge
>>96580703I've found that I only paint during the sunny seasons. Might be seasonal affective disorder from a lack of sunlight. Try to sit down and paint if you feel conflicted. If it's not making you feel happy, just stop and try again when the mood strikes you.
>>96580703You do this for fun right? If it's not fun, don't do it.
>>96581424>Might be seasonal affective disorder from a lack of sunlight.Have you tried taking vitamin D during fall and winter? I was sceptical at first but it actually helped.
>>96579422is that an OPR variant of the frog mage or is it the james model?
I primed some Inquisition members.I will start with the two catachans, then do all the red-robed dudes.

>>96582036>>96582041Very cool
>>96582041Tell me about the Auxilia dude. Why does he wear the mask?
I decided to try a bit using airbrush today, I got some extra bust when buying 3D printed models before so I used that one.I'm honestly impressed by all those masters pulling out details painting with these tools. Like one guy advising gently moving trigger back and forward for subtle covering while the moment I push trigger back, it blast with large force (at 2 bar while guy in question advised using 2.5 bar to even 3).
My take on Ko Dali
>>96582452Because in the drift it isn't safe to show your humanity.Gonna take a heat gun to this dudes chains after he cures and fuck i see mold lines i missed....
>>96582720Very nice.
What's a good birthday present for someone that has a ton of paints and a gigantic backlog? Is there anything?
>>96582971Depending on how far their BD is...Paint some of his models. A unit or a couple of heroes. I know that back in the day, before I learned to enjoy painting, I would have appreciated any miniature someone would have painted for me.
>>96582971Define "a ton". If it's something like multiple shelves of multiple brands, then more paint probably isn't it. But if it's one shelf worth, then maybe some stuff they don't have. It's hard to say without knowing what they have, what they paint, or what they might like.
>>96583045At least two full lines of paint
Slowly painting an handful of dwarfs.
Is Typhus Corrosion fundamentally just a texture paste? I assume a bit thinner than one meant to be used for basing. Or is it something different? I feel like I could just thin down some of my vallejo paste and use that if I want little bits of sand on my model.
>>96583055You've given away your location Australian anon.
>>96582971Maybe some quality brushes and a brush soap?
>>96583079Or maybe he just likes to stick to his ceiling to avoid dust getting on the minis
>>96583228if you have ever cleaned a hanging lamp you know that doesn't work
