Reposting from last thread, swapped out the pathfinders for stealth suits.
this is my first attempt making a tau list in about 10years. I'd love some C&C, I guess my general idea is peppering the opponent enough to allow my breachers to rush in and steal some objectives, I might be a bit light on troops so I think I might consider dropping the broadsides for more breachers.

Also when I get around to it I'll be interested in seeing how the Xv9's go reducing the enemies movement, because then I might invest in getting some more.

In retrospect I think it may have been the right choice if it was to keep the you-know-who-hands off space marines.
Some faction had to fall on it's sword in the stead of the space marines and I guess it had to be the Custodes that do that.
Is it an improvement? Nah.
But the setting would have suffered worse if the Custodes did not make their sacrifice.

They aren't as crazy as say, a forgefiend or a heldrake but they do have a respectable amount of trim still, especially since there are random pieces of metal riveted all over their armour.
>>96580719
In my case there's really no two ways around it, my armour is white and I do it with an airbrush to keep myself sane, so I either mask everything before priming or basecoat every metal part in black after I'm done with the armour. I usually do the latter because I feel like I have more control over it.
>>96580751
I mean they can probably look decent as the other anon says just with some contrasts, but if you want to paint the details and have interesting visual contrast they must be one of the most detailed armies for sure. The amount of rivets, valves, maggots, demonic growths, tentacles, corroded metals, bullet holes, pieces of chainmail, leaking fluids they have everywhere is insane.

>2 Krieg Command Squads (One from the plastic kit, one using the FW Command HQ squad)
>a Commissar
>40 Krieg infantry
>10 Combat Engineers
>10 Grenadiers (Kitbashed from Tiny Legend bits)
>2 Artillery Teams
>10 Death Riders
>1 Field Ordinance Battery squad
>2 Sentinels
>3 Leman Russes (1 Battle Tank, 1 Tank Commander w/ Demolisher Cannon, and one Vanquisher)
>1 Chimera
Along with a few other things in the pipeworks (A second Chimera waiting in a box, another squad of those Tiny Legend Grenadiers + some "Castellans" to lead them), a 4th Russ with a swappable turret mount to try out different variants).

Honestly if you're starting from scratch the new Combat Patrol isn't that bad if you pick up two of them. I was with you initially and was kinda "Meh" on the Death Riders at first. After building and painting them though I think they're kinda neat. Do I wish they were better in game? Yeah, but hey, they make nice display models at least. They've got quite a few build options since you can do lances/swords/guns and it all counts as the same unit, so WYSIWYG isn't an issue.

The plot already got leaked.
90% of the book is the Corsairs fighting Humans and Genestealers to stop the Orks from attacking a Craftworld by setting a trap to blow up the Ork fleet. The 'twist' is that the Corsair Princess changes the plan at the end and detonates the trap early, which alerts the Orks to the Craftworld's pressence and has them charge straight at it and butcher the Craftworlders while the Corsairs escape. The Ex-Craftworld character, Admiral Taenar, is initially distraught but is convinced by the main Corsair character, Myrin, that he had no real ties left to the Craftworld after being exiled and that he fits in far better with the Corsairs.

Looking at his list of works, I've liked most everything of his I've read.

Alpharius, Harrowmaster, Son of the Forest, Lelith Hesperax, all good reads. I was iffy on Huron Blackheart, it felt like some executive was like, "hey remind everybody this guy exists" as opposed to a book that existed for the sake of a good story. But still, that's four out of five solid books, and Huron wasn't awful just felt a bit pointless

What's people's beef with Brooks?

Literally just chud-shit. Its archtards mad he had a nonbinary orc in one of his stories. And it wasn't so much the orc was nonbinary and more the orks making fun of a marine for assuming they are all men when they dont have sex at all, they are a single sex species that breeds via spores. That's it.

People like the toxic Yuri. Also there is a sororitas short story with a trans character mentioned (never appears, just is mentioned) and because Brooks is outwardly LGBT positive they assume it was him but it wasn't.

Lelith's book completely waters down her characters for the sake of promoting her as a 'girl power' lesbian icon for a faction of torturous slavers and rapists.
Lelith is not mean to be a hip and trendy character who getd involved with 'toxic yuri'. She's an alien gladiator who runs an entire army of other gladiators solely so she can find more things to torture and kill. Romance vehemently disgusts her to the point that she kills anyone she sleeps with just for fun.

I'm not too bitter about the loss of these rules specifically, I can see why they'd trim some of this. Slaves to Darkness is already a stacked army as is, and while I'd rather they kept as many fun options in the books for as long as possible, getting a choice of eight different special rules that apply to only a single unit in the whole army does feel pretty bloatsome.

He is by far the worst Black Library has to offer and that's even when completely ignoring his politics or fetishes he inserts in his books. He writes like a comic book writer who uses chatGPT as his editor. That's why he shits out so many low quality books. >then surviving an assassination attempt from a rapidly evolving creature in his own home

>the cosmic horror of finding tyran prime completely devoid of life, where it was once full of oceans, then seeing the last pic captures and reports of the invasion

>then understanding the path of dead worlds the nids have left behind, realising they're extragalactic and the weird detours around some planets

>the race to go warn the ultramarines of the impending doom, while noone has any idea about the fact ultramar also has genestealer infected double agents

>the calm before the storm, when communications are killed by the shadow in the warp and then the full scale war finally happening, the sheer number of bioships blotting the sun

>random scenes of carnage ensue from planetary defence forces getting overwhelmed, the daring last stands of the veteran company

>old one eye gaining his name in its iconic event
>then the duel between the swarmlord and calgar

>in the end the rogue trader ramming his ship and detonating its warp drive against the main hive ship

Star Army as in a guard force that is sent out to other solar systems unlike the standard PDF who stays on planet. It also further helps to prevent misnomers because the PDF can also be classified as the “Imperial Guard”.

Kill one, and ten take its place. If they are truly without number, then our race is doomed to a violent death before every shred of our civilisation is scoured away by a force more voracious than the fires of hell themselves. Death! >Cut it down to just ""We cannot live through this. Mankind cannot live through this. Death! By the Machine God, Death is here!"
I can really see this being the cold open/ line for the trailer. We cannot live through this being a fascinating deep cut to Islamic scholars when they saw the sack of Baghdad by the Mongols who famously said 'Islam cannot survive them' to the at the time unstoppable golden horde.

there are a lot of cinematic quotes to use
>The more I learn about these aliens, the more I come to understand what drives them, the more I hate them. I hate them for what they are and for what they may one day become. I hate them not because they hate us but because they are incapable of good, honest, human hatred

>There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey.

>As I looked into its dead black eyes, I saw the terrible sentience it had in place of a soul. Behind that was the steel will of its leader. Further still I could feel its primogenitor coldly assessing me from the void. And looking back from the deepest recesses of the alien's mind I perceived what I can only describe as an immortal hunger. We can slay the Tyranids on our worlds, blast their fleets from the space, grind their armies to torn and ruined fragments. But their hunger? That is beyond our ability to slay.

>I know you may find them repellent to look at but believe me, you don't want to let them out of your sight.

One of the reason I'm never touching a 40k novel.

It's easy to write some "big" idea, but you better deliver, you better make it interesting, it better add to your story.
Time travel and dimensional bullshit are always a red flag, it's an exception when someone pulls it off.

I'm sure for the writers it was a way to make the warp sound more powerful, but in practice it means shit is meaningless and is down to the whims of (mediocre) writers.

Writing is easy. Writing something interesting, isn't.

>For example that implies that Horus is in some sense still in the warp after he entered on Moloch, he never left, and could come out in 41k. Time travel shit gets weird fast
The HH novels are literally the story of Chaos creating itself via a series of bootstrap paradoxes by interfering in reality before it technically exists, starting with the daemon Samus triggering the Horus Heresy by manifesting in the past. Except he didn't exist yet, because he is only created when Erebus shanks Garviel Loken at the end of the battle on the Vengeful Spirit. This is Chaos bootstrap paradox #1 that they used to basically hack reality to their own favor and doom humanity.
Chaos bootstrap paradox #2 is woven into a tangle with #1, wherein the Emperor and Horus's duel on the Vengeful Spirit shatters time and space. The act of doing so causes the combined negative emotions of the Siege of Terra to leak into the dawn of time, essentially tainting the Warp with the beginnings of Chaos (and the origins of the first 3 Chaos Gods) billions of years before the Old Ones ever create the first psychic races.
Put simply, the entire Horus Heresy is Chaos creating its own origin story out of nothing. Chaos didn't actually exist prior to the Horus Heresy, because it had no actual origin point beforehand. But it somehow interfered with reality to cause its own creation, because time is nonexistent in the Warp. This means that the Emperor's Golden Path, which he believed was the only way to stop Chaos, was in fact the only way to *create* Chaos, and he was tricked into causing everything bad that ever happened in the universe. If he had simply chosen not to create the Imperium or create the Primarchs or one of any number of things that led to the Horus Heresy, Chaos would have actually unraveled from existence.
Yes, it is retarded. Yes, people will say "that never happened" because they didn't read the The End and the Death and simply refuse to believe this is the case.

4.
Slaanesh was among them, his 'birth' was a performative act to destroy the Eldar and pave the way for the Emperor to begin the Great Crusade unopposed.
This also means that the Eldar only ruled the galaxy because Chaos was allowing it, and at any point the Chaos Gods could have triggered the Fall and ended the Eldar Empire. The Eldar were just useful tools for keeping the Galaxy in relative stasis for 60 million years so Humans could come about.

The logic behind it is that Ork fleet was much larger than originally thought and the Craftworld had been massively weakened after being raided by Lelith prior to the book's start (it's actually mentioned in the Lelith book), so it wasn't going to be much help against the Orks. Tishria didn't think the Corsairs would profit from standing with the Craftworld, so she pulled her people out.

>>
>>96581525
It literally does.
We're not talking about a matter of POVs, where the setting is undeniably anthropocentric, we're talking about the actual worldbuilding of the setting.

If you want to argue that chaos is exclusively a human thing, then you're not talking about 40k, you're talking about some weird fanfiction that removes everything from 40k but humans and chaos.
It's simply objectively wrong at face value, or a meaningless impression in the most forgiving of interpretations that would see whatever is described in that book as but one of many events that seed chaos back in time.
>>
>>96581526
Abnett can fuck off, but so can you
His late books have many issues, but your made up fanfiction about creating Chaos is not one of them
>>
>>96581487
>I really don't see the issue
There was no need to ever explain as to why and how Chaos came into existance. Also it's just more Chaos wank like "Chaos will win in the end anyway xD" that BL editor Laurie Goulding or whoever said.

It quite literally turns the entirety of the 40k setting and the characters and all the events within it meaningless. (Yes, I know this is a fictional setting that doesn't actually matter)
All it does is just make everything that happens in 40k a pre-determined outcome and none of the actual actions of the characters matter.
Like imagine if Tolkien had written LoTR where Frodo gets to Mount Doom and throws the ring into the lava destroying the Ring, only for him to then write a sequel book 2 decades later where he describes the lava pouring out from the volcano where then the molten golden metal then flows out and then forms into the One Ring again and its then found by the orcs who bring it to Sauron.

I mean yeah.
Some fuckhead Imperial Admiral had a colossal orbital fortress built and proclaimed it was utterly incapable of being infiltrated.
Prince Yriel responded by sneaking in and taking on of the Admiral's eyes while he slept, wholly for a laugh.
>>
>>96581799
eldar psychology is weird like that, they don't really want the wealth or the murder either, it's mostly the thrill of the challenge and danger

it's like extreme sports
corsairs either have very short lives because they live like that, or they're corsairs only for a relatively short rebellious period and then resettle somewhere else in eldar societies

No, Silksong is a small single player game, so it can only be talked about so much. 40K is constantly expanding and has enough lore to rotate discussion on without it getting too repetitive. If you’re talking about /40kg/, then still no because /40kg/ popularity is fixed to the popularity of 40K, so poster count rises and falls depending on whether people want to come here to talk about 40K or not.

I mean, yeah that's possible. Khan wasn't really a far east asian anyway. He was just adopted by mongols. Even irl they used to do that, especially Genghis Khan's line because he was curious of the world. The Marco Polo tv show was quite good at portraying it, though it was about the grandson Kublai Khan.
