>>96587971Goblins got done so dirty in 40K. Fantasy had them getting shit done, going in massive swarms and catapulting themselves by their own volition, and some of them would serve as advisors and nearing equals to the orc warboss. In 40K there isn’t a single grot willing to voluntarily stab a git that isn’t already half dead, and even the “highest” grot is still below the weakest, and dumbest boy.
>>96588001Nah, they work well with the small roster they have and as add-ons to the 2 eldar armies, bloating it with a bunch of redundant options would be lame.

>>96588209oh shit it's 295 points. And it was announced alongside the Harlequin box, which is a minimum 515.If they want to make Combat Patrol a popular game mode like Spearhead is, they need to figure this shit out.
>>96588248AoS spearheads are all over the place in terms of points too anon. GW just balanced the game better.
>>96588248>If they want to make Combat Patrol a popular game modenot even slightly
>>96588248spearhead has a lot of focus behind it because they actually need to use it to get people into the gamecombat patrols are used to get rid of excessive stock for lesser factions, or be made into things that can be bought multiple times
>>96588260Yeh but Spears are still twice the amount of points as 40k boxes, so it feals less like a scam, even if it it the lamer one
>>96588246this was not funny when you first posted it and it's not funny now, retard
>>96587781>TQHere's my pitch: Alien Bird people that are honor-bound hunters (Think Predators) who's faction gimmick is fast deep strikers. Think stuff like Jet pack wings, infiltrators, and actually playable fliers. Give them a faction rule where the army gets a small buff whenever a unit on an objective is taken off the board but drops when you lose one of your units. Lore-wise have them associated with the Votann (Tech trading) and Tau (They want them bad as auxiliaries but the birds are too wise for that shit).
>traitor Salamanders complementing their Melanchromic mutation with kintsugi-style gilding of their scarsKind of a cool idea that I sorta wanna try now.
>>96588300>kroot but contrarian
>>96588260The minimum is a LOT higher. I know AoS has higher points cost generally, but almost every Spearhead gets you a quarter of a full army. With CPs you have a lot that are around the 500 mark, and then a bunch that aren't even scraping 400. That's going to cause balancing problems. Especially with their new apparent paradigm of not having a centerpiece damage dealer, which puts non-powered armor armies at a disadvantage against powered armor armies>>96588269Spearheard has been so popular in AoS I guarantee you item 1 on their goals for 11th was "make Combat Patrol work"
>>96588309Yes
>>96588300
>>96588300...so you just want winged Kroot?
>>96588248"Combat Patrol" is just "start collecting" with some extra steps. It's not meant to be It's own game in all sincerity. The Krieg box is good because of its model content, as it contains everything except the engineers and the marvel hero
>>96588118Now all that's left to do for you is tie a noose from a rafter and go meet the great wolf in the sky!
dark eldar refresh never ever...
>>96588324>"Combat Patrol" is just "start collecting" with some extra steps. It's not meant to be It's own game in all sincerity. It's going to be. Spearhead was too popular, they are going to try to replicate that in the next edition. At this point they should be designing the Combat Patrol sets to work with the new Combat Patrol game rules, and the crazy lopsidedness of the Krieg and the Harlequins make me think they haven't nailed it
>>96588118kind of a stretch to call basecoat + messy wash "painting"
>>96587781i just want something for tau auxiliaries, something like quadrupedial crab/marine alien to hold the line in melee (altho at the same time i'd be fine with just letting in some votann mercs too)outside of that i'd take anything that isn't human+gimmick or bug

>>96588408it depends on what you're after
I've been out of the hobby since around 6th edition, got rid of my collection a long time ago. Lately I've been feeling the itch and wanted to get back in, nothing crazy, just some marines to paint, maybe a little hobby-modeling, do some "my dudes" fan-fictioning - the good stuff. I went on the online store to look at buying some kits but I'm seeing, all kinds of different Marines I don't know what I should be getting anymore. I know a lot of this is run-off from the Primaris hooplah but I have no frame of reference for what are normal units and what aren't and I've been seeing some stuff while doing a little research that the next edition is coming soonish and Primaris is getting phased out?/tg/ what the hell am I supposed to buy? Are these Primaris kits being squatted? Are tactical squads dinosaur units? What the fuck is going on?
>>96588496Primaris is the trademarkable name for the modern sculpts of marines. The units aren't going away.
>>96588496The general gist of the current rumor mill is>Last remains of firstborn marines are getting Primaris-version kits (Assault Terminators and Tactical Squads)>Since everything is "Primaris" they can just drop the word from all the boxes and just say "Space Marine Intercessors" instead of "Space Marine Primaris Intercessors" or what have you. They just want to clean up the wording on the boxes and whatnot. You'll be fine picking up any of the Combat Patrol boxes, I strongly doubt anything from those will be going to Legends any time soon (Except maybe those shitty turrets in the Iron Hands box no one ever uses).
>>96588496>Lately I've been feeling the itch and wanted to get back inRecommendation: don't>what the hell am I supposed to buy?Nothing.
>>96588496>/tg/ what the hell am I supposed to buy?the box of 10 marines that looks coolest to you
>>96588496>the next edition is coming soonish and Primaris is getting phased out?Next edition might make primaris tacticals or some shit like that but primaris are here to stay and the shorter marines are on the wat out.Normal units aren't really a thing anymore either, in practical terms you can make an army of only dreadnoughts, or spamming whatever type of unit you want with no real limitations of a force organisation chart.Closest thing to the basic units are units whose datasheet include the "battleline" keyword, making them good at holding objectives, in a primaris marine army that's the 3 types of intercessors.Considering the cost of entry nowadays, I'd either grab a kill team so you have a painting project with enough bits to make the various dudes different, or a bundle box, like a combat patrol or one of the battleforces they release around christmas, or one half of the starter set.
>>96588496>thinly veiled primaris vs firstborn shitpostI commend you for typing all this shit just for a bait but you should kill yourself anyway
So essentially the real advantage of the Tau is that they embody the idea that 'logistics win wars'?
>>96588528>>96588529>>96588542Thanks this all really helps me find footing, it sounds like >>96588540 is the best path forward for what I want to do so I'll do that. Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.
>>96588205
>>96588576kek good one
>>96588559Not really, they have bureaucratic issues as well. Everything a Tau can do is determined by their caste. Water caste Tau can't even commit violence in self defense due to how strongly ingrained the Ethereal brainwashing is. Fire warriors can't perform anything other than the most minor maintenance on their equipment, and so on. It's not nearly as bad as the worst excesses of imperial bureaucracy but they're not always the most practical.
>>96588561>It's interesting that the force-org is out."Interesting" is one way of phrasing it.
>>96587826rebosting
>>96588357So that actually looks like a tiny bit too much water. Metallics are kinda fussy about thinning but it looks like that would be perfect with one more coat. If you can still see the dark undercoat after doing a coat just let that one dry and hit it again
