I love cute monsters.
>>96626282I'll post a reply to this post in both threads.>The outright ban of links and (sadly) pends in genesys has me peeking back into this stupid game. How badly would I get beat if I rolled in with somthing like a 2016ish harpies xyz tool box? Maybe throw a set of ash or somthing in to update it a little bit? I just really miss pre fuckload of handtraps ygo. I know they will still be there in the new format but im hoping the points system will help tone it down a bit. You'll get completely obliterated since few decks relied on Pendulum monsters and a lot of decks don't need to rely on Link Monsters to win. Case in point, Vanquish Soul K9 and Mitsurugi Ryzeal would minimally touch either summoning mechanic, and both were high meta threats in the year of our lord +13, 2025. Harpies just don't have the gumption to be playable for the most part, even if they cumulatively have a point cost of 0.That being said, Genesys is in its infancy right now and you might be able to squeak out a couple of wins if other people are also running their shitdecks, or if you organize a low-point session online or at your locals. It might perform somewhat decently with a 50 or 33 point cap, but not at 100.
>>96626255Harpie has gotten 8 cards directly part of the archetype since 2016, with these 7 being the ones legal in Genesys as the last one is a Link. There's also been a bunch of generic cards released since then, so you got a lot of room to raise the ceiling by.As an example, Wing Requital says that if you control 2 Winged Beasts with different original names, then you can pay a mere 600 LP to draw two cards.
>>96626417>harpies get synchro that can be made with any two regular harpies, and they don't have to be tuners.Lmao why is this a synchro? Thats an interesting bunch of new cards tho. So Im guessing the idea of popping backrow is the same, you just want to pop your own now? Im also assuming the tool box is different now too?
>>96626378Post one first
>>96626519I did.
>>96626417
>>96626464>Lmao why is this a synchro? An XYZ or Link would give it Ranks or Link Rating instead of Levels which would prevent cards like Oracle, Perfumer, and so on that care about a high level Harpie from getting their bonus effects, and at the time of its creation, Konami didn't really make too many contact fusions. As for the Toolbox, there's also been some developments there. Utopia is a really big archetype for Rank 4 spam, for instance, and Evilswarm Exciton Knight is available in the format if you remember that Raigeki on legs.Additionally, there's a pair of Rank 12s of interest, the pic related Zeus and TY-PHON can be accessed via alternate summoning conditions. Both costs points, Zeus costing 20 and TY-PHON costing 10.TY-PHON's alternate summoning condition is really easy, which is why it prevents you from doing any summoning at all after you make them. And you can guarantee a Zeus via the Zoodiacs in this combo:>2+ Level 4 Monsters to XYZ summon Zoodiac Chakanine>Use the alt-summon condition of Zoodiac Boarbow to XYZ summon it using just Chakanine (Chakanine's materials are added to Boarbow)>Boarbow direct attack for 0>Boarbow now qualifies for the Alt-Summon condition of ZeusThis would give Zeus 4 materials, but you can actually raise it because all Zoodiacs can do the same alt-summon as Boarbow once during a turn. There are two Zoodiacs that cost points and a lot at that (Broadbull at 67 and Drident at 20), so you can't use all of them, but you can get a pretty strong Zeus. Drident could theoretically be worth it as she gives you a Quick Effect pop. However, running Zeus, TY-PHON, and Drident would come to 50 points which is fairly pricey.50 is not the end of the world, but there's a lot of handtraps (ex. Effect Veiler) and board breakers (ex. Raigeki) that also good but cost points to include, and you want at least a few in your main and side deck.
>>96626605>forgot the damn pic referred to by pic related
>>96626282Came here to say Genesys format is the best thing to happen to Yugioh since Pendulums got nerfed into the ground.
>>96626660not that pendulums weren't a dumb mechanic, but link spam and generic splashable link bosses were much bigger problems. pretty sure konami regrets pendulums but for other reasons.
I fucking loved skill drain Qlis. Making flood gates asymmetrical makes my dick hard, espically when people refused to main deck basic easy shit like mst.
>>96626801The issue with Pendulum is they tried to do too much at once and in doing so focused on the wrong element, the summon spam. Pendulum summoning was never really interesting and was never all that good either. But it brought with it a ton of weird rulings while pushing the summon spam stereotype further than pretty much anything else before it.Monster/Spell hybrids is the actually interesting part and that 100% could have carried a new card type on its own, and could have been a springboard for standardizing trap monsters with a similar look.
>>96626550Ummm, no you didnt
>>96626801Pendulums ruined what could have otherwise been a good concept (hybrids)
>>96619006A late as shit reply but pic related since you can use dugares or tiger king. Or be a sicko like me and use flame banshee.
>>96626943YES I DIDLUNAR RABBIT IS CUTECUUUUUUTE

Well well well. Only 20 years late and I'm sure you fag-ass nerds already knew this but this is a huge surprise. First I'm learning that Zombyra The Dark was based off of a OG manga chapter. That is very cool. I already liked that monster and now it's even cooler.
>>96626920>Monster/Spell hybrids is the actually interesting part and that 100% could have carried a new card type on its own, and could have been a springboard for standardizing trap monsters with a similar look.I'm actually blown away that something as simple as "dual mode cards" completely mystified both Konami and the playerbase. Shit's been a staple in Magic for two decades. I've never heard of a single MTG player complain about adventures or dual-sided cards.
>>96627730They are confusing for new players, though. Looking at an adventure card for the first time does not give you any clues to how to use it. I thought they were just another modal card for the longest time.
>>96619374>How about swapping 1 Confession and 1 Verre Magic for 1 King and 1 regular poly? Unless you think 2-2 would be better but I need another suggestion then and i really dont want to go up in deck sizeI'd still personally just do 1 Confession 2 Lacrima : 1 Swamp King 2 Poly since you're effectively running 4 vanilla poly spells with the small chance to go into Millennium-Eyes that way (though you could do it off of Magicalized if you use Swamp King to search, I suppose). I'd say to try it the way you want and see how you feel about it.
>>96627730The Spell and Monster aspect is generally fine. Some hiccups with how it works with the extra deck monsters, but it's decently easy to get used to.The bullshit that mystifies people begins to come into the picture with the Scales and how the numbers on the card are not the ones you use as reference for summoning, but instead 1 off. So say, a Scale 1 and a Scale 4 are able to pendulum summon 2s and 3s only, and that same Scale 4 and a Scale 8 does 5/6/7s.And then there's the Face-Up Extra Deck, and how Pendulums go there when destroyed instead of going to grave...unless a Banish effect is in place in which case Pendulums go to the Banish zone. Additionally, Pendulum monsters go there when sent as material for a Link/Synchro/Fusion summon - but if they were used as XYZ material then when detached they go to grave. Additionally, if there's an effect active that prevents monsters "returning to deck" or similar, then a Pendulum monster doesn't go to the face-up Extra Deck but instead goes to grave. And I think there's weird bullshit that goes on when Necrovalley is in play, but fortunately, I've never had to deal with those rulings. These both exist in order to facilitate Pendulum Summoning where you can currently summon 1-6 monsters. And all of them being summoned counts as one single summon for the purposes of various traps despite there being several monsters being summoned - which includes stuff like Bottomless Trap Hole with its conditions based around attack values. If it were *just* them being Monster/Spell hybrids, they'd be fine. This bullshit to get the once-per-turn giant summon spam working is what fucks the mechanic for a ton of people.
Should I build a flame swordsman Genesys deck next?
>>96627177proto weevil
>>96628006I definitely think you could do it. Most of the cards are 0 points including the generics. There was a brew floating around for TCG format that put in some tenpai cards for kill potential and fire dragon synergy that might be legal too to some degree.I enjoy Flame Swordsman as well so maybe I'll give it a look too. Haven't really built it since Dark Flame came out.
>>96627257>not ZombireApparently the localizers didn't know either.
>>96626920>Monster/Spell hybrids is the actually interesting part and that 100% could have carried a new card type on its own, and could have been a springboard for standardizing trap monsters with a similar look.I fully agree, especially when archetypes like crystal beasts layed the groundwork for that
>>96629888>layed
Genesys does overall seem to lead to more interesting gamesForcing the player to chose between a stronger engine or a stronger reactive core simply makes for more creative decks Also links not being around means combo decks can't turn every extender in to full combo for free. You can actually interact with them at choke points and stop them
>96630296>Also links not being around means combo decks can't turn every extender in to full combo for free. There's a decent amount of decks that can still go for a full combo for free. But what the combo's ceiling can be HAS changed, because 2 spare bodies doesn't grant an I:P or S:P, and 3 bodies can't act like 4 by going through a Selene or Transcode that can revive a monster for free material.
>>96630461>There's a decent amount of decks that can still go for a full combo for free.Of course there are still combo decks that can be resilient but it's not like EVERY FUCKING DECK has the link 1 dingus that tutors the field spell that summons a dork etcMaliss, Yummy, Snake eyes, it's just a constant ever present problem in advanced that wouldn't be a thing if links weren't around
>Not a single card is hit>doesn't use link or pendulum heavily>recently got support to allow turn 0 playsIt's super quant time, baby. How should I build my deck?
>>96631017That's a problem that exists because the people designing card effects are fucking retards. You mentioned Snake-Eye, which is a problem when you can link them away for the sole reason that they do not impose restrictions like they did pre-POTE to keep the game sane.>You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except FIRE monsters, for the rest of this turn. That on its own at any point in their combo would wrangle their entire archetype, but it would also make it so they have virtually 0 targets in their extra deck.>You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Spellcaster, Illusion, and Pyro monsters, for the rest of this turn. That would make it so that the archetype still work under the entire Sinful Spoils umbrella.Mind you, these kinds of safeguards were applied to ALL summoning types, and not just those that utilized Link Monsters. Maliss does this and it's a step in the right direction since it at least has the decency to lock you into Link monsters, but that's kind of thrown out the window because their main deck monsters generate advantage for free. This loops around to the card designers being fucking morons.>Bro... what if we made it so you can activate your Trap Cards the turn that they're Set by paying an extra cost?>>What an excellent idea! What should the cost be?>I dunno let's just say banishing an archetypal monster (this allows the main deck Maliss monsters to snowball)
>>96631321I can point to another way that it could be handled with a tiny tweak to how the ED summoning mechanics work.>If summoning a monster from the ED and its materials are non-specific aside from core mechanics (ex. X(+) Level Y Monsters, Z(+) Effect Monsters, A (or more) Tuners + B (or more) non-tuners), then at least 1 of the materials must match the Type, Attribute, or Archetype of the to-be-summoned monster. So say you want to summon S:P Little Knight. Just 1 of the two materials needs to be either a Dark or Warrior.Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight? You need just 1 of the materials to be a Light, a Fiend, or an -lswarm monster. It is the tiniest inconvenience but it would drop combo ceilings significantly - though you probably want to smack Cyberse with a few hits alongside this because of how bad that type's become. Likely a couple other combinations as well.
>>96631593I don't know if you're the same person complaining about the likes of Maliss, Yummy, and Snake-Eye here, but none of what you wrote would touch their combo potential at all.
