Reminder to all US friends -
Tariffs are at 30% meaning GW pays 30% up front before they even make a sale. This makes rotting inventory hurt much, much more.

As a result, do not expect restocks, and assume that any deal or boxset will be extremely limited

I've already been cutting out all impulse purchases anyway. I didn't buy Tomb World since I only really cared about the DW/TERRAIN. Might get the necron/raptors box and give/sell the sisters to someone who ants them (or keep them for some weird agents army that has deathwatch, grey knights and sisters?) but that's like 6 months away and might be my only warhammer purchase in 2026. GW has kind of screwed the pooch the last 3 years with price hikes while the economy gets worse.

Does this Votann army list look reasonable for 1000 points? I'm new to the tabletop and still a ways off from playing proper 2000 point games, but a good amount of people in my area play 1000 casually and for escalation leagues, and I would like to git gud enough for the latter

It hasn’t been so bad, I’ve been impersonating them by replying to repliers for a bit, and it seems to shut them up. What i’ve seen that is really toxic is how whenever there’s an argument over models or lore it seems as if the people arguing absolutely despise each other over it, and never relax and say “well, I made all my points, and he made his, guess there’s nothing else to say”. just absolute hatred and vitriol all throughout until next thread starts.

Alrighty, First off, It was Spirit Conclave against Pactbound zealots.

My wraiths Grudge match against my mate's chaos crusade.

The chaos army revolve around large blocks of character supported Chosen and Possessed. Those 3 wounds really throw off most damage calculations. My friend is also FIENDISHLY good at rolling high on the Hit roll, meaning lethal hits out the rear, not good for my high T dudes.

Anyway, my plan revolved around using Wraithlords and the avatar to slow down the tide long enough for the Titan to thin the horde.

I get first turn and with a Farseer to guide the titan, it actually managed to clear a block of chosen out when using all it's weapons, Given it was the kill mission (can't remember it's name) this was great news for me, and frankly more then I was expecting it to do. -

Spearhead is great and getting a ton of support.
Boarding Patrol, Kill-Team, and Warcry are all pretty decent.
Necromunda isn't really a skirmish game but it is fun in it's own right. Bloodbowl is very fun but also a bit different.
Underworlds is kind of the only real stinker. And Combat Patrol if you even really count that.

CSM are REALLY fast and basically cross no mans land on foot in turn.
I am only saved from a turn 1 charge by his horrible charge rolls. He makes up for it by one shooting a Wraithlord with the vindicator which shoots Absurdly hard, and has a fart strat that makes it untargetable.

His duet of daemon princes makes their way up the flank while his cultists spread out and sticky everything.

Any enamel wash users here?
They can all be applied like the streaking grime meme? Any specific exceptions if they are there?
What do acrylic washes have over enamels?

I'm like on the edge of giving enamel washes a try. If they are the miracle cheat that streaking grime is hailed as then I might try to paint strip my whole army and go again.
>>
>>96630464
>They can all be applied like the streaking grime meme?
Sure, streaking grime is just another enamel wash
>Any specific exceptions if they are there?
panel liners are much thinner so you'll save way more time just running them into recesses like they're supposed to

quicker to apply, harder to clean up

Sadly my counter attack wasn't worth much.

The Chaos turn 2 means everything gets in.

Chosen is bad enough but the double Daemon prince means double body slam which pretty much always means 12 mortal wounds, clearing up my line and finishing off the avatar.

varnishing is best practice, prevents lifting paint if it doesn't grab onto your primer well, helps enamels/oils flow into recesses better

Turn 3

Through unholy amounts of luck the Wraithlord (haven't removed the Avatar yet in the picture) managed to hold due to the Wraithbone Armor strat, holding up the horde for a turn.

Sadly a unit of Chosen managed to sneak through and engage the titan in melee.

The titan honestly put up a good amount of worth shooting bricks of chosen, however only having AP1 in melee is painful.

We called it by the top of turn 5.

Chaos Victory.

Honestly if I hadn't rolled so god awful the whole game I think it would have been much closer. Sadly my dice were cursed.

In short, the titan is of course not competetive, but it isn't without teeth is supported.
I honestly think dropping the avatar for some other units might be the way to go if I wanna keep the titan running. I am not sure about Spirit Conclave, but it does give a nice "back off" effect on people to know the tokens also boost the titan, and the Wraithbone Strat is very ace.

Anyway, hope you gents enjoyed.

I wish I was surprised that people still buy codices when they all end up outdated soon after, but even on /40kg/ there are many hardcore consumers.

I get it, having the book is nice, especially for the art and fluff, but I'm also paying for the rules, and if someone, especially an international company, can't bother to respect me and the money I spent on their product by making sure the data inside their book stays correct, then I will not buy the book.

And that's not adressing the programmed obsolescence that comes from the edition cycles, nor that despite having the opportunity to use digital rules they still somehow fail at delivering that service (because they treat it like a physical book but without the hassle and quality control (which is already lacking) that comes with it).

I'm curious to hear why people do buy the books in this day and age.

Not very well. Especially on tabletop simulator because I swear all the players want to do is bitch about GW instead of actually playing the games.

The rules look promising. Naturally it is a given that the ruleswriters are incentivized to write better rules than GW because they aren't exactly the big boys of wargaming.

I genuinely despise this shit, dumbest fucking religious sign I've ever seen, makes no fucking sense.
Taking a look at some of the most famous signs of history (not just religious), they have a clear purpose/signification that matches the doctrine they fall from:
Christian do the cross sign, clearly a protection/purity thing.
Muslims bowing, submission/prosternation to their god
nazi salute: proud and aggressive, militaristic
Kneeling + hand on heart: I give myself under your command and I swear/devote myself to you.
What the fuck does the imperial bird sign fucking mean? This is the kind of shit kids in kindergarten would do. This does not convey protection/fear/hatred, etc.
The helldiver sign, simply pumping your fist and standing tall, is dumb and simple, it does its job perfectly.

it's the symbol of a roman execution/torture method that their messiah was martyred on, later becoming the symbol of the religion. there's absolutely nothing inherently associated with protection or purity with the crucifix, it's also symbolic association.
the Aquila is the symbol of the god-emperor of mankind, it can be associated with "protection and purity" the same way the cross is by being associated with the Emperor

you associate the sign of the cross with protection and purity because Christians have used it for 2,000 years as a symbol, the actual cross/crucifix itself is a fucking Roman Empire execution method. Nothing INHERENT to the Cross is related to protection or purity, if Jesus was Guillotined christians would gesture a slice across their necks instead.

You're literally so soaked in 2,000 years of associated symbolism you can't understand that 10,000 years of associating the Aquila with the Emperor's protection would do the exact same thing lol. It's literally the exact same thing. The symbol gains an association with protection or purity because of WHO it's associated with, not WHAT it actually is. The romans were not thinking about "protection and purity" when nailing criminals to crosses to execute them.

The cross sign is only """"Clearly"""" a protection/purity thing given millenia of symbolic association with Jesus, the Romans were executing people with crucifixion prior to Christianity and it had nothing to do with protection or purity and nobody would associate it with such because that's like saying depicting someone being tied to horses and drawn and quartered is "clearly" about protection and purity. The symbol is associated with a man and religious figure, and that man and religious figure is invoked for protection and purity, the symbol itself is arbitrary.

The Aquila is exactly the same. It's not like bowing or kneeling at all, which even removed from all symbolic associations, is still a concrete physical act of submission or supplication that even animals can understand is the opposite of a threat display. Making yourself look bigger or smaller in front of someone else is not the same as drawing a cross or bird.

and you got btfo because there's no "purpose" in the sign itself when doing the sign of the cross. an uncontacted sentinelese tribe could still get the gist of what kowtowing or kneeling means as a sign of deference and submission.
They would have no fucking idea or any possible way of knowing that signing the cross on your chest is a reference to a 2,000 year old empire's execution method of nailing people to wooden crosses as they painfully die from blood loss and gravity's pull, which happened to be the way that a religious leader was executed as, with that religious leader himself being the prophesized messiah of a separate religious group living under the empire.

The Aquila is no different. If you don't know about the God-Emperor of Mankind, it's just a two-headed bird. If you don't know what Jesus, Rome, and the Old Testament are the Cross is just two lines; even seeing a real crucifix it's just a piece of wood with a horizontal bar; you're more likely to assume it's something to do with construction than a religious icon

As always I'll check the archive too but submitting your models in reply to these posts is the best way to not be missed. If you submit the models to one of my anchor posts there is no need to repost the submissions, I see them, I promise.
Here is the vote for next month's theme.
https://strawpoll.com/BDyNzobWkyR
Very freeform theme this month, excited to see what you've cooked up.

They follow what is told to them by those who came before them, everything descends from the top guy, he's the one who set all the rules down.
The galaxy is a treacherous place, no one can be trusted. They hope/pray that what they're taught and told is the right path. The top guy refuses to say anything that falls outside. Only he knows where they come from, why they are the way they are, or why they do it all.

No I'm not telling either, that defeats the point.

Do you remove mould lines after assembling the model or per piece off the sprue?

if you clean them per piece you just have to rotate them and will get all mould lines easily
if you remove them after assembly you WILL miss some random line somewhere, since they are now everywhere, spread randomly

why are the EC so much taller than other chaos marines? this is probably how tall they should have been
>>
>>96631694
No it isn't. Crucifix has a literal specific meaning, that meaning being a cross that has the image of christ on it. From the latin words for "dude on cross". Both can be religious symbols but the word crucifix only ever means one with the image of christ on it.

For Combat Patrol, do I need to use the loadouts listed or can I build my models how I like? I'm not sure how restrictive everything is supposed to be.
I assume nobody will care in friendly circles but would it be welcome in an Escalation League?
Specifically I want Agents and I want the Arbites with shields.
>>
>>96631819
Pretty sure you have to play them with the wargear specifically listed. That said, I don't think anyone playing Combat Patrol as a format will actually give a shit how you assemble the models visually.
>>
>>96631810
>>96631817
I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm saying they're untrustworthy.

>>
>>96631819
Combat Patrol as an official format uses set lists with set wargear with their own slightly modified data sheets and army rules, but if you're playing in an escalation league where everyone is just bringing 500 points of whatever then wargear is obviously whatever you want to bring.

The only reason to have tall bases was to fit the slot required to keep metal models up.
Now that nothing uses slots there's no reason to keep bases tall.
Warhammer should move to a flat bases system.

To those of you anons that play flimsier armies, especially those that aren't quite hordes, what units do you choose to be your early-game sacrifices in order to improve the survival of others? What reason do you choose them?
>>
>>96632058
Since you posted DEldar art I assume you are asking about them
For me, I don't sacrifice. I play cagey and if I'm forced to lose anything it's a boat next to cover so they can hop into it
Obviously this requires terrain which I've seen a staggering amount of people not actually use and just create a shooting gallery in which case you're fucked as a flimsy army

I got in to kill team last year but I've only played that with a friend at his house I decided to go ahead and start building a full army though and want to play a real game at some point once I'm done with it, there is a games workshop store somewhat nearby but they don't seem to post anything on their facebook which is the only social media they seem to have, do I just show up at random and hope people are there or do stores usually post a schedule?

Serious serious talk, but the gradual price hikes have been an ongoing thing for ages. Here are some 2005 MSRP Prices for comparison
>Cadian Shock Troops - $35 for 20 models
>Sly Marbo - $12
>Chimera - $35
>Leman Russ Battle Tank - $40
Now it's
>Cadian Shock Troops - $52 for 10 models
>Sly Marbo - $32.75
>Chimera - $65
>Leman Russ Battle Tank - $70

Games Workshop will continue to make models bigger and more expensive for as long as people continue to buy them.

Help a new guy out. Do these abilities stack?

War Walker
Crystalline Targeting: In your Shooting phase, after this unit has shot, select one enemy unit hit by one or more of those attacks. Until the end of the phase, each time a friendly AELDARI unit makes an attack that targets that enemy unit, improve the Armour Penetration characteristic of that attack by 1. Each unit can only be selected for this ability once per turn.

Vibro Cannon Platform
Sonic Destruction: In your Shooting phase, each time this model makes an attack with its vibro cannon that targets an enemy unit, improve the Strength, Armour Penetration and Damage characteristics of that attack by 1 for each other friendly VIBRO CANNON PLATFORM model that made one or more attacks with its vibro cannon that also targeted that enemy unit this phase.

Also i totally called that they will be getting rid of dark eldar as a faction and just combining it into one Aeldari rule book. They have already started to include dark eldar units in the Aeldari Codex. This latest Dark Eldar codex will be their last one. They already did it with harlequins.

Guilty as charged for being a Dark Eldar player (not that I was hiding it, granted). I bring it up because I was playing against a friend's Kult of Speed Orks and it was a bit tricky playing against an army almost as fast as me (though, granted, which much worse aim) while also losing the initiative, so I had to spend my first turn doing my best to position without exposing too much. I could only do so much initially with the cover provided, so I had to sacrifice a unit of Reavers to direct fire against my more important (read: Dark Lance-bearing) units.
>>96632193
Well, one thing that's helping (me against said friend) at least is the Kabalite Cartel detachment, which can give a detachment Devastating Wounds towards vehicles, so splinter weapons can do something against vehicle-heavy armies.

There was! Itvs called plastic but it's only good for large scale production.
If I'm going to be honest, FW has its problems but it is more an issue of quality control than the casting process since that's just what casting is like. You only know of forge worlds issues because that's what you have been exposed to.
I have an old Mortian Crawler cast laid out right now and it's the worst thing I have ever worked on holy fuck.

I got into 40k with Assault on Black Reach. That was $60 in 2008 and came with
>10 tactical marines
>a captain
>5 termies
>a boxnought
>an ork warboss
>5 nobs
>20 boys
>3 deff dreads (which were new and this was their introduction iirc)
it also came with a rulebook and templates.

now in 2025 sixty bucks doesn't even get you five terminators. it's ridiculous. I'd have never even considered the hobby if it was this much of a fucking ripoff back then. And it's not like the models in it are piece of shit finecast or old pewter stuff, this was 5th edition in 2008, a lot of plastic models from back then are STILL being sold completely unchanged in 2025 (including basically the entire Dark Eldar range),
>>
>>96632566
Thats why Im asking for help! Dont let me fall further into the pit anon!
>>
>>96632570
Good news, rumor is that Dark Eldar are getting a big refresh next edition. So a lot of those old models won't be sold anymore.

oh sorry it's not deff dreads its deffcoptas, I always get ork vehicles mixed up.
now 3 deffkoptas is $65 lol
>>
>>96632552
Just wait for the Dark Eldar refresh next edition like everyone else.
The entire fucking army is sold out on all their stores right now so you'd have a hell of a time trying to collect them right now anyway.
>>
>>96632570
To be fair, that is a starter set, the current 40K Ultimate Starter set is 400+ USD worth of plastic for 210. The regular starter set for 112 USD seems more comparable to that image of Assault on Black Reach, though there does seem to be a price hike even when accounting for inflation.
>>
>>96632616
I wouldnt even touch or try collecting their range. I'd get the battleforce and work through it later down the line.

Oh wait no, it's fine, Amazon now has Citadel spray for MSRP! That owns, last time I checked it was always weirdly expensive on Amazon. I thought I was going to have to order it from GW, and then I'd want to spend more money to get the free shipping, but I'm working on Eldar now and for some reason there's almost nothing in the Eldar range that's online only, so there wasn't anything I could get cheaper.

Thank god I was able to avoid that mess. Priming resumes on Tuesday!

It’s better to go lore first when picking an army. Though maybe start with Orks going off your post.
>>
>>96632921
Orks or Tyranids because they have the easiest to understand motivations.
>>
>>96632948
This isn’t true because orks came before humans, and they were already performing war perfectly.

It is the only place where I can ask stupid 40k related questions.
>For instance:
How many of you 40k hobbyists are getting an artistic desire to branch out from modelpainting and try drawing?
I can't be the only one that has felt a desire to start the drawing hobby after painting some models, right?
How lively is the 40k fanart scene?
>>
>>96633032
In recent years, LGS have sometimes gotten extremely low stock (like single digits) of value boxes. Maybe that happened to yours? The box is decent but I wouldn't call it great the way GW ended up pricing it.
>>
>>96633040
idk about fanart but I've sketched for years just for fun before ever getting back into 40k as an adult with actual money
>>
>>96633032
stop talking about it anon i dont want to buy it fuuuuuuuck
>>
>>96633016
Because they're only good at fighting. Orks will inevitably start infighting, especially if the WAAAAGH gets too big for even the biggest warboss to impose his will on all of it at the same time. Some Big Bosses will get a little big for their britches and break off and the whole thing falls apart.
Plus Orks are very easy to dismantle once you identify and eliminate the leader. It's SOP for the Imperium for a reason.

Not gonna lie. I'm torn between juggling the miniature hobby and the drawing hobby. I want to sketch 40k stuff, but at the same time I've spent so much money on models and hobby supplies.

Also /ic/ is comically bitter like everyone is at each other's throats and when they aren't they're deliberately being thorns in each other's sides.

I think my biggest problem is that technically the miniature hobby has "cheats" like enamels washes whereas the drawing hobby doesn't. You have to grit your teeth and just draw to improve.
This means that I've been conditioned from the miniature hobby to look for shortcuts.
>>
>>96632997
It’s possible, just VERY hard because orks are usually content with the way their lives are going anyway, and they don’t need any overbearing god telling them to do this or that, or trying to give them some kind of boon when the ork is already doing just fine.
>>
>>96633016
Because orks purely focus on war while the humies try to keep some governance and peace to the lands they conquer like the little war hating weaklings they are.
>>
>>96633080
I think your issue is stemming from the merging of hobbies. When I draw I go out to nature and sketch critters in tide pools or local plants. If I wanted to immerse myself in 40k I have my models.
>>
>>96633028
Grim, eradicators look like shit. Have you painted any of the new space wolf models?
>>96633030

>>
>>96633107
gj decal, keep that attitude up
>>
>>96633098
>I think your issue is stemming from the merging of hobbies.
I guess I just have to pick one and stick with it?
That's part of what's stressing me out to be honest. I love the miniature painting hobby, but I want to keep at the drawing hobby because I think I have an original imagination like everyone else that does.
Also the drawing hobby has a higher chance of getting me a fun job of making comics.
Whereas the miniature hobby seems a lot harder to monetize the hobby itself.
You've got a higher chance of being a good comic artist and having fun being it from the drawing hobby than painting enough 40k models to end up being able to turn it into a career like Duncan Rhodes did.
>>
>>96633107
>eradicators look like shit.
not to agree with the mutant but you're wrong
>>
>>96633123
that is a pretty grim way to think of things. first the idea of "picking one" is completely counter to what I was saying; its okay to have multiple hobbies anon.

second.. why the fuck does everything have to become a career? why can you not just enjoy something for the sake of it without some get rich scheme attached? this feels like some low-trust society shit

I just want to try and avoid having a shitty career. I want a fulfilling and enjoyable one. But I do see where you're coming from.
