You may want to get some pencils and dice, get some photocopies of the character sheet (assuming they don't have editable sheets on their website) and a set of dice. I haven't seen cheap sets of dice lately, the newbie boom has driven up fancy dice prices by way too much.

Get some people interested in the material, bring them over, and I'm sorry to say this but by default you are going to be the DM.

Play a Draconic Sorcerer, take the Tough origin feat. The extra HP will majorly help you survive with your shit CON, you'd be close to a d10 hit die class at that point. If you ever get to improve your DEX, it's unarmored feature will also help you out. And Innate Sorcery will cover you offensively and with your save DCs.

Monk is passable but that poor WIS with fuck your AC and saves.

Your safest bet is a Cleric with Heavy armor. Probably a Dwarf so you don't get slowed down.
Anything else you're just going to be weighing down too much.

Random rolls run the risk of not enabling you to play the class you want. That's just the way it is.

You could probably give them an Origin feat as long as you required it to be a specific one.
Like give them the bonus social skill, and then let them take Magic Initiate for free, to represent a mix of inherited magic, but human versatility in picking what cantrips/spell they get.
That on top of Fey Ancestry and Darkvision is probably fine.

Arguably better than Human if you were already planning on taking those particular feats and skills, but you miss out on free Heroic Inspiration, so that's something.

Life Siphon seems horrifically bad for a level 1 spell. Ranged spell attack out to 120 feet, deals 1d10 psychic damage per spell level, can spend a number of Hit Dice up to the spell level to deal that much in d10s of extra psychic damage.

I think it would be better boost the range across the board and instead of spending die to extend the range more, you spend a die to add one more person to your thought channel. That's how I would house rule it.

It's 30 feet by default, so if you spend energy it's a minimum of 40, max 70. And as long as the DM rules that a Telepath Psion can spend the die on it, you could bump the 60 the subclass gives you at level 6 to a 70-100 range.
The main benefit I see here compared to other easy sources is that this Telepathy is the broader version, so it doesn't care about sharing a language. But I'm not sure there's many scenarios where you're really going to be hurting for an extra 20 feet of telepathy distance. And if you were, Aberrant Sorcerer gets a mile-wide boost for 3+ minutes, so getting a 40 foot boost for 1 hour feels really paltry.

There's still an advantage in being able to use it for translation, but if that's the intent, then what they should do is ditch the range bonus, and instead fold in the Devilish Tongue psionic discipline option, where if you're using the Telepathy to try and talk to some one, you can spend energy to boost the roll. Better to make it better at the unique aspect it has compared to other early telepathy options, rather than trying to copy the others badly.

D&D has a polytheistic setting, so at a minimum a god of trickery would be able to hide something from other gods. Hiding out in the temple of such a god might be enough to do the trick.

Fine for a one shot if you have enough time, especially if It's to weed out undesirables, but if they're all good then you end up with too many for a real campaign.

Start them at level 1 with their subclasses and have someone tell them an inspiring tale for 15 extra temp hit points so they survive first level.

Level 2 start is fine I guess but weird. Are you doing the updated lMoP with the obelisk?

honestly i understand the appeal of simple classic stuff but skimming through the 5.5 version of this, it's so... bland? just a bunch of dungeons with monsters like im playing diablo 2

that's what the game was about and it evolved into a higher form where interesting scenarios and dilemmas other than kill everything can happen
I mean even if you restrict everything to combat, there are far more interesting combat scenarios that just clearing caves that all look the same

I said level 2 start only because I had the idea that they'd want to continue using the same characters, if enough people want to start fresh I'd just run it from level 1. I'd be running the base Mines, since that's what came with the 5e starter set I was gifted a while back. I'm going to be running with 5.5e rules for the most part, and I figure I can try to make something up myself if we get through the entire module.

I guarantee you 100% if you start a new campaign with 6 players who are new, 2 and maybe 3 will drop out by the time it settles. This is 100% certain. People say they want to play DnD until they try it. It's just how it is.

What's up with the Shadowfell, is it Shar's domain or the Raven Queen's?
Are Shar and Selune like another "tier" of goddesses, since they are primordial, or does that not make sense? Do they even need followers to be empowered?
What happens to a cleric sent to another plane? Can their god still reach them and help them?
There's arcane and divine magic, but what the fuck are psionics?

Soft-retconned. Original printings of the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide mentioned it, but errata removed the mention. Of course, SCAG itself is rather ambiguous with whether or not it's considered a "real" book these days. In BG3, Jergal states that faithless souls are simply left to wander the Fugue Plane eternally.

Our current party is full of people going through the motions of being an Adventuring group. Only my character was trying to become an Adventurer, everyone else was forced into it because otherwise another Adventuring Group is gonna kill us for being witnesses to their crimes
We're becoming increasingly more powerful by the day, being able to casually one-tap most enemy groups and reap the reward of successful adventures and none of us care for our own increasing power because everyone was originally doing something else at the time and wants to go back to doing that instead

depends on the world they go to. Like in Barovia or Sigil they have restricted spell access, but generally Gods can grant powers in many different areas

psionics did not draw power from the Weave. Instead, a psionic creature was itself its own Weave.

I would use this set to introduce kids to the game; the maps and tokens are of decent quality and are big and easy to read/understand.
For anyone older/more experienced, you'd have to do a lot of adding your own stuff to make them interesting, and combine with other material (homebrew or otherwise).
