Should the Dark Eldar be the strongest one-on-one fighters in Warhammer 40k since they're thousands of years old and have Eldar bullshit? idk I feel like the custodes take away from the Eldar's gimmick.

>>96683689this image is a ritrualpost and should be a bannable offense

Besides slaves are dark eldar basically post scarcity (if they weren't such dicks). For their real world raids is it basically all just slaving or is there other materials they want (besides soulstones too I suppose) like blackstone?
>>96683681Very impressive, they get to brag to their investors that their constantly selling stuff out. Just as planned.
>>96683759Are dark eldar the least popular army? I would have thought it'd be the LOV or SOB
>>96683726I have fond memories of 5th because it was my first edition I really played. 6th made me quite the hobby for a very long time though.
>>96683764Yeah, although they don't need to get new slaves either, really. They have more than enough understand of cloning to make new ones, they just do it because it's fun.>>96683772>Are dark eldar the least popular army? No, that would be your favourite army, which is gay and lame and gay.
>>96683764Presumably they still have bottlenecks of production and dissemination, with downstream effects of limiting the availability of various goods.
>>96683772>Imperial Agents are so forgotten they're not even mentionedAside from literal meme-status armies I'd wager Genestealer cults are also pretty unpopular
>>96683764Some of the absolute super tech isn't reproducible like restoring the entire webway but they more or less preserved all the knowledge of the old civilization so given enough time and resources they can pull out way more mcguffins (and do) than anyone outside of the Necrons.
>>96683772They're the least popular "major faction" by most metrics, with I think only GSC and Votann below them in total player count but obviously they're a lot newer and do better in sales recently.DE is a weird one to track for sales though because most people proxy half the Army because GW literally doesn't sell malt of it for the last 5 years or so.
>>96683784Any good stories or books where they pull out a mcguffin? (preferably a book as they always seem to lose to some stupid hubris retardation like in Da Big Dakka)
>>96683787All the resin just got squatted to legends so no more proxies needed :^)

>>96683798They have always had a lot more stock issues than just the resin stuff. Them being totally sold out right now isn't exactly a new phenomenon, just more severe than normal
Friendly reminder to all anons:There is literally nothing wrong with being just a hobbyist until society calms the fuck down. Even if that means you're new and are no games right now.

What armies are control oriented? I want to debuff and deny my opponents from being able to do stuff, trap decks in yugioh were my jam and I kinda wanna know army gives the same dopamine hits in 40K.
>>96683668>there is no dog on earth that could take on a gaunt.I would suggest that, and I could be wrong, they're not actually on Earth...I mean I'm pretty sure there's no breed of wolf on Earth that could carry a massive genetically altered super-human wearing 180kg armour into battle and yet the Fenrisian wolves can.
Starting work on my second EC Praetor conversion Post models
>>96683880They’re too custodian coded
>>96683795In Path of the Dark Eldar it's revealed that Vect has been stockpiling Soulstones in order to make an army of Wraith-Pain engine hybrids. In Valedor, the dark eldar appear to just bully the shit out of the craftworlders and give them a superweapon that will destroy any planet (even if it's been infested and reinforced by a bunch of Nid hive fleets). I think the implication is that the Dark Eldar do have some War in Heaven era superweapons but don't really need to use them because they only raid
Do you think people would be mad if I ran an Eldar Wraith army with Custodes rules because they're more fun?
>>96683883>coded
>>96683866Genestealer Cults for all that dickass tactics. Infiltrators to prevent any scouts and early objective scoring, cult ambush to pop anywhere, 6" deep strikes, ridgerunners tagging targets with mortars across the map so anything that hits the tagged target gets AP-1 till the end of turn. It's a big brain army
>>96683887base size is the same, as long as it's easy enough for them to tell what each unit actually is I don't see an issue (which it should be).
>>96683880Looks really cool. The EC praetors fit for custodes.
>>96683887being forced to play against custodes isn't going to make anyone happy
>>96683866There's a couple fundamental different types of control. One is area denial where you play armies with massive threat ranges and don't commit to the board, but position yourself in such a way that it is on the opponent to not leave themselves exposed in a way you can fold in and punish them. Typically you pair this with indirect and long range fire to pepper them from afar and force them to make a decision or get slowly whittled down. The other kind is reactive moves, blood surge moves, rapid ingress, and uppy downy redeploys which let you spring traps on your opponent if they cannot screen properly or allow you to break their screens. In both cases, you win the game not so much by winning on primary score in no man's land as much as denying the opponent from ever scoring theirs while you outplay them on secondaries.Lots of armies are actually capable of these kinds of things like CSM and both styles of Eldar..

>>96684075Dunno why not it would suit the dark eldar, but it seems like they are only used to torture dark eldar. The many soulstones used to power them all act like bloodstones, so simply being around them would probably kill anything with a soul
>>96684079You are a whatever you paint them as player.
>>96684052Its from 8th ed deldar codex and 7th ed Haemonculi supplement. Supplement is a kino thing for them
>>96684083I meant rules wise.
Dark Eldar refresh is coming. I can feel it.
>>96683784>>96683795>>96683809It should also be said that most Pre-Fall Eldar tech isn't going to be useful for Dark Eldar, as they've gimped their psychic potential and Pre-Fall tech is heavily psychic. The superweapon in Valedor needed an entire Seer Council to activate it, thus it was mostly useless to the Dark Eldar.
>>96684087Iron Hands dont have dedicated rules unless you want to use models with the Iron Hands tag, of which there is one Iron Father Feirros. So you can use any vanilla Space Marine detachment (which are completely chapter agnostic). If you want to use any other non codex chapter specific units you just have to realize they are mutually exclusive with other chapter specific units Codex or otherwise. Nothing in that box can't be used in any other flavor of space marine army.If you bring no chapter specific units, you get an improved version of Oath of Moment.

>>96684159NTA but castigators would be a DE exclusive concept. They're the only ones with the knowledge and desire to torture the souls of craftworlders and then use that to weaponise them
>>96684159It wouldn't, but they need a new big pain engine or construct centerpiece for covens and GW are lazy as fuck with coming up with new designs. Maybe a mega grotesque would be better

>>96684205Not really, I believe there was a singular Slaaneshi Mandrake (which is schewpid) in some novel and thats it. Croneworlders are just Chaos Eldar, unless you attribute them being Chaos DEldar on the basis of DEldar themselves being closer to pre-Fall Eldar.Anyways I was talking more from the standpoint of taking extant DEldar cabal and making it Chaos, which is kind of just stupid, they're already plenty edgy and horrible. So yes, taking Evil thing and making it become corrupted by another Evil thing is something that I look down upon, reminds me of World of Warcraft and its gorillion overlapping types of corruption.

>>96684350Dark Eldar are like the old Wild Hunt style Fae kidnapping humans and taking them back to their weird faerie realm for a thousand years to suit their strange whimsies. >>96684553To get some tail
>>96684553latent psychic energy from white women
>>96684387Yes and no. Craftworlder Paths are like you say to yourself, "I am a Poet so I will only feel Poet things" and then you live your live feeling only emotions that a Poet would feel. Eventually you become so used to these emotions that the path of the Poet is no longer of interest to you and you drift onto a new Path with the next set of emotions that begin to flow through you. One by one, the Asuryani study the carefully fragmented emotions of their hearts, mastering them bit by bit. Once they have attained true mastery of their hearts by walking enough Paths (a length of time and a number of Paths which can vary significantly from one Eldar to the next), they are ready to set foot on the Path of the Seer and start unlocking their forbidden psychic gifts. Essentially the Paths system is a training course that prepares Craftworlders to face the Warp. This is a very necessary measure because as Valedor shows, Slaanesh is watching them every time they use their psychic gifts, as if he is only a few steps away from them at any moment through the Warp. They basically only need to make one singular mistake, which is often the result of emotional distress they can't repress properly, to get their souls taken.

>>96684682Why does this dude have bones sticking out of his power armor?Marines don't have bones.
>>96684664Adamantine and ceramite both have different 'grades' of quality, yes. However, Adamantine is so rare that it's usually only found and worked by the greatest artificers of the Adeptus Terra, so the resulting superalloy after they're done forging and treating the ore is pretty much always the absolute top quality one can find. They don't waste Adamantine ore on unskilled craftsmen. Of course, the techpriests who know the secrets of forging Adamantine alloy are also rare as fuck, but that goes without saying, like with plasma weapons and so on. Ceramite you do actually see the different grades of in action - carapace armor, like what the Scions wear, is ceramite. But power armor is built out of 'reinforced' ceramite composites, and it's a very very big difference in durability, fundamentally the difference between a 3+ and 4+ save. Artificer armor is made of even more advanced and rare variants of ceramite, the very finest that the Imperium can produce, allowing a 2+ save. Then there's Terminator armor, which is even more advanced ceramite (the secrets of forging it are lost).

>>96684695This just mentions abduction, nothing about killing. And nothing confirms that the blood and viscera is from custodes, it could just be from the Dark Eldar themselves. And the custodes not being found just being the case of them chasing the DEldar to kill them or they already killed them and they have gone back to the Imperial Palace. Custodes are a secretive bunch, they have no reason to tell any inquisitors about if their members have returned or not, they don't answer to inquisitors only to the Emperor.

And the suits are based on utility exo-suits used by all manner of civilians. I don't think the physical shell of the suit is that complex, it's probably all the various components to make it a weapon that make it harder to replicate. Same way you can have people with full body plasteel or ceramite plate armour, but adding all the power armour bits is what makes it more difficult to replicate.

>>96684729In 30k maybe, they have a thread for that on this board I'm pretty sure.

It's just a more advanced alloy of steel. Ceramite is the special material that makes Terminator armor virtually impenetrable. The issue is that the Imperium cannot easily replicate it at such high quality. At its most extreme level, ceramite can be made actually on par with Adamantine, such as the Emperor's final defensive barrier in the Golden Throne that is made of overlapping layers of ceramite and adamantine and is called truly indestructible. >And the suits are based on utility exo-suits used by all manner of civilians. No... no, anon, the original Terminator suits are based on long lost exosuit patterns used by Dark Age of Technology colonists. Modern exosuits used by the Imperium for mining and plasma reactor work are nowhere near as advanced as the patterns that were used as inspiration for Terminator armor. >I don't think the physical shell of the suit is that complex, it's probably all the various components to make it a weapon that make it harder to replicate.Yes that is correct, it's primarily the materials science (how to create ceramite composites of such high quality) that is virtually lost. Although Cawl, being Cawl, has already started production of new Terminator suits. >but adding all the power armour bits is what makes it more difficult to replicate.uh, no, not really. The Imperium simply doesn't remember how to forge ceramite of such incredibly high grade.

>>96684513Yes, that's my point. The comic obviously isn't suppose to be set on Holy Terra, but on some random Imperial World. Given that planets like Fenris have animals that look very similar to Terran wolves and are called wolves, then it's possible that the dog in the comic is not a Terran dog, but some other alien creature that looks enough like a dog that humans just call it such. And given that it's an alien, it may be able to take on and easily kill a gaunt.>>96684527>fenrisian wolves aren't thunder wolvesNot all Fenrisian wolves are thunder wolves, but all thunder wolves are Fenrisian wolves.Fenrisian wolves are wolves from the planet Fenris. Thunder wolves are a large breed of Fenris wolf. Like how a timber wolf is still a Terran wolf, while also being a timber wolf, but not all Terran wolves are timber wolves.>fenrisian wolves are human colonists that turned into wolves>thunder wolves are space wolves that turned into wolvesYeah, bullshit. That's nothing more then a case of retarded fans not understanding that not everything that a characters says is a hard fact. Like when Han Solo said the Millennium Falcon did the Kessel run in less then 12 parsecs. He was lying to try and impress Ben and Luke so that they'd hire and pay him. But fans took it to mean that the Falcon really did travel a certain distance, in less then that distance, despite the fact that there's literally nothing in any of the films that shows the Falcon as being incredibly fast.>There are no wolves on FenrisIs not some deep revelation about the genetic ancestry of Fenrisian wolves. It's a warning about underestimating or misunderstanding the Space Wolves. They are not just some retarded savage barbarians, running about the aimlessly. They're the Emperors executioners.

>>96685708They're big guys, if you can find captive bred ones they're pretty cool. You can find them in most US states on the east coast these days, but don't touch the wild ones they all carry rat lungworm and sometimes tb

>Ghoul StarsWhat's going on there? Seems like a lot of weird aliens live there including an empire of Cythor Fiends, crystal like humanoids who the Black Templars were unable to Exterminatus because their crystal planets were immune to Imperial attacks and that's not the only Xeno horrors lurking there. Why is that place such a hotspot for horrific aliens?
>>96685672Depends on what you mean by bond. In the ways man and dog bond? or even the extended mammal family? no. Stop thinking in mammal specific ways though and you can get a lot of fun out of owning things smart enough to learn you are a friend but alien enough to be interesting and different.Certain bugs and crustaceans are very smart and can be neat pets that see you as a friend, many lizards are smart enough to learn to trust you and be happy in your care. I raised a clutch of orchid mantids for a year and they were great, they loved to be hand fed water and trusted me enough to pick them up and show them off to guests. Beautiful as well.

>Watching LVO off and on>Constant stream of armies that are painted super darkMan, this stuff looks so bland on camera. dark grayish blob monster mash over and over. I've seen multiple games where you can't even tell which army is which because of this. It's like people are afraid of color.
>>96685786It's an extremely popular color combo due to the contrast. Even one of the most popular Tau septs uses that scheme.

>>96685785Nta but I agree that bond is something that everyone has their own definition of, and its usually based on the pets theyve kept in the past. In general for invertebrates, the predatorial ones tend to be more "personal" because they're usually a lot smarter. A lot of the herbivorous inverts are dumb as stones and can learn to tolerate handling sometimes, but aren't quite as engaging to interact with. If you liked mantises you should look into some of the other predatorial inverts. Scorps and spiders are a blast. Hunt down the largest local species of jumping spiders in your area for some really interesting behaviors and a fun treasure hunt
