Sets are decided years in advance ATLA and TMNT were most likely around the period of LTR when WotC was opening up to collab deals because of its success, and Paramount was one of the most eager to jump on it because they were doing a big marketing push at the time. A little while after LTR but before either of these sets were announced, Fortnite did a dedicated avatar season and a small TMNT season, the former being somewhat successful and the latter very successful. This was likely part of the same marketing push.You will not see any ramifications of Spider-Man's failure until at least 2027

My prediction is that Avatar and TMNT will be flops. I'm 50/50 on Super Heroes, it could be spider-man again. If you think about the successful UBs, they are IPs with super long histories which have deep and interesting lore. I don't think any of the children's cartoons have any legs to stand on, but something like Star Trek, as stupid as it is for mtg may be successful on that basis. Hopefully they all flop though. TMNT is dead on arrival. Pretty much every Magic player i know is in their 30s and avatar is a miss of the boat on that. I don't even think there's enough of a diehard avatar fanbase to pump it.

I have not seen new MtG players in any local game store for ages. No store in my area bothers with running MtG events other than Commander. There is a single store that runs FNM Pauper only every two weeks, that's it. Over half of the stores I still have contact with moved most of their MtG products to the back store to make more space for PTCG, OPCG and Lorcana, the latter one to my honest surprise. Is it just me living in a bubble? Are other LGSs thriving and not being able to keep up with the demand, random normies storming the counter to buy boxes of Spider-man boosters?
