Depends so much on the setting in question that the question itself is almost meaningless.
And there is no setting the picture is based on, which means we can say whatever.
And also: it's fantasy. Yes, the picture invokes real life analogues. But who says it isn't the elves winning this time? Or in this particular picture?

>OOC
We had two shopping sessions since I was the only one actually writing things down on what to buy/look for so the the table took almost entire first shopping session figuring out their shopping list and then again half of our next session. We also might lose the Frost player since she is too busy but she is too attached to the character and I'm afraid she won't give him a proper sendoff/ending. The player who played John the Halfling returned and he pulled out his first character (Bard) and he was able to fit in the story with the DM since last time he played his Bard, we were not in Hell. Our Amy player has also been slacking. He doesn't tell us in time if he's gonna make it to session or not, always gives off some bitch excuses such as "I'm tired" and "Ah...i saw the message too late and I scheduled with my other D&D table for that evening". He already complained that Amy seems to simple and boring as a character but I'd say he is just bad at RPing. Amy is awesome PC with tons of reasons and plot hooks to shape out her character.

>In character
Without a shred of ego I claim that right now, Arrianna is the current MVP
>Since John is gone, she is the party's scout, info gatherer/library for anything not related to arcane and magic.
>Her survival skills are ever useful as she is able to spot ambush spots and track goons
>She is the only one pushing the party to acquire loot and convert said loot into high value gold due to her merchant profession and/or high diplomacy
>The party has started noticing and now she is actually getting some respect for the amount of work she does.
>She is clean, straight and is even cooking again for the party
>She also started casting more utilitarian magic (I actually forgot because I only use one spell)
Last session her actions were actually commended by Ferris because someone finally noticed that without her, party wouldn't have the magic items collectively worth 27.000 gold of which Arrianne contributed 26.800

nta, City of Brass anon here. Two shopping sessions in a row? I think I have one player who would have an autistic shitfit if I "let" that happen.
>She is clean
Awesome

A warm meal lifts the spirits, though I'm surprised your GM isn't going the route of "the meat is already cooked". Then again I dunno what hellspawn you were fixin'.

>My Game
Ugh well... we might be switching to the new system next session. The new girl that replaced the old rogue has more or less ghosted us, still not sure if she was bullshitting me about IRL tragedies or just wanted to get out of it. Made up way too many back to back if that was the case.

But we gotta switch.
>The Wizard player is likely to just bail outright, he hates how casters are in PF2e and that would leave my game elfless.
>Druid player is being a cunt, might be making up excuses instead of just saying he doesn't wanna play the new system. He can't seem to understand my hesitancy to leave the party healing to the Paladin, whom I have to remind to Lay on Hands already.
>I found a solution so he could keep his medium-sized mount (he's a gnome). The new excuse is he doesn't wanna be a healbot. Dude... you basically are one in PF2e.
>Do the footwork, show him class options. And remind him he'll have a lesser staff of healing and wand of healing word.

Not heard back since I sent him that list. Been about a week. This is kinda frustrating.

Probably. Elves being so long-lived, they'd not be in any rush to change things and so they'd be mostly satisfied with things being done "how they always have been."
Dorfs would also have a strong lean towards tradition and would keep their kings, probably eventually creating a parliament to add some of their own voices as well as the king's.
Humans would be the only ones likely to go full republic on a national level.
Halflings would have a full democracy in their shires.
Orcs would continue to rule by da biggest and da strongest.

There's a reason monarchy stuck around so long — royals get the best education and training, on subjects that most have never even bothered with their entire lives, such as the matters pertaining to statecraft, for instance.
The fall to decadence and excess, which often accompanies royals, is mainly a person's fault, the system merely exposes them to potential corruption.
So, it's likely that the elven kings/queens would be preparing their children to take over their entire lives, slowly relinquishing responsibilities to them, letting them slowly build experience and expertise, until they can take over the whole realm.
They have all the time in the world to teach them the ropes and make sure they're fit to rule.

Terrible lore of the elves of my setting, my players like it tho, I just need to actually turn it into prose at some point. Sharing because fuck it why not i've been drinking a bit and want to talk about my elves a bit.

Elves refer to themselves as The Alvarin, with Elf being to their ear a debased human corruption of it.
The first Alvarin empire ruled most of the subcontinent (my setting is isolated to a region about the size of China + the east Indies).
After a few splits and reformations inspired by the Three Kingdoms they eventually unified for real under an elven demigod.
The empire lasted nearly 100,000 years (~six elvish lifetimes).
The empire fell when the culture lost sight of their inherent superiority to their farming equipment... I mean humans. Was pulled apart due to a split between the elder traditionalists, the younger reformists, and a whole lot of humans finding out that they too could learn magic.
The Alvarin, who are called High Elves by outsiders, retreated back to a magical grove that humans can't enter without fae guides as it exists half way between the world of men and the world of the faerie.
Those elves who were cut off in the retreat became wood elves or were enslaved by the human leaders who unified the ex-slaves.
Eventually, due to disgusting intermingling, very few humans in the current era don't have at least a little elf blood in them, and those with pronounced elvish features are city elves.
City elves are basically half-elves who bred true.
Player character elves are either Wood elves only (not that ruleset I use has race entries that granular)

Pic relatively unrelated, but I did once use her as inspo for a city elf who was the local lord's liaison to the mercenary company my PCs were working for.

That's one of the reasons.
The other is that, by design, the rulers are supposed to be the most equipped to rule by the virtue of receiving best education money and power can acquire.
Mind you, I said supposed to, not that they will necessarily fulfil those expectations.
Royal heirs being spoiled brats is how a monarchy can end up in a guillotine. Or fade into complete irrelevance like the brits, even before Lizzie's death.

Honestly, I wish there was more emphasis on actually surviving in hell, but the DM pussied out of that. Ferris can create a loaf of bread every morning, Amy can create food and water, Arrianne can scavenge various plants, berries and bugs and has a jar of infinite raspberries. Me and Ferris player talked about how Avernus feels like Africa more than literal hell (it's just hot and there are warlords about) which kinda ruins the point of being in Hell. Direct democracy. Only elves get to vote, of course. And you get more votes if you've been alive longer.
Every elf is too entrenched in their ways to accept any form of government where they don't (theoretically) get a say. This of course leads to lengthy (years-long) debates over issues that require immediate (like, within the month) solutions.

I'd mentioned it before but it's Advanced 5th Edition. Yeah, built on the 5e bones but there's a lot that gets fleshed out. Odd you mention the surviving bit, since if I ran Avernus in that it'd be a lot more difficult.
>Magic can't conjure edible food and potable water until much higher level
>Not taking food and water every day will fuck you up, with Fatigue(Exhaustion) stacking every time you rest without it
>And you can't recover higher than 1 level of the above out in the wilds, only a true safe haven
All of that combined with it likely being so fucking hot in Avernus that you have to eat and drink twice as much to begin with. Though my favorite part is still that dropping unconscious in combat slaps you with stacks of exhaustion. No more yo-yoing.
>>
>>96803698
>All of that combined with it likely being so fucking hot in Avernus that you have to eat and drink twice as much to begin with.
If only. I actually have ranks in cooking that could be useful for the campaign and not just a willsave gimmick (the only rule we have is that if Arrianne cooks up a good breakfast, everyone has +1 to willsaves for the remainder of the day)
>Though my favorite part is still that dropping unconscious in combat slaps you with stacks of exhaustion. No more yo-yoing.
This is an excellent rule that our DM doesn't use :(

Can't wait to run my own campaign once this is done. I plan to torment my players with survival related stuff, making rangers and skillmonkeys an actually viable in the game for outofcomebat stuff. How? The best I can think of is that every citizen/household gets a "voting orb" or whatever, that acts as a receiver for the voting announcement, and a transmitter for their vote on the issue.
Anything else would be an unholy mess the likes of early US, with their ass-backwards retarded multi-stage voting system. Those nitwits can't even elect a president without causing an incident.

It's another thing this new system tries to do better. Traveling is more relevant, there are defined rules for challenges the party might run into. Activities they can choose to do, one of which includes Cooking which will reduce the supplies needed to feed the party, and give an extra hit dice per day on a critical success.

My plan is to cut up bigger areas, with one overall Region in mind (think a desert), but have them need to deal with if it's more mountainous or forested. There's one they could pass through, once they planar hop, that is a jungle where the trees and foliage are made of metal and the environment is acrid, nearly inhospitable. Though there are places in that realm where real foliage grows.

You will notice in these kinds of threads that people are more concerned with always pointing at flaws in whatever elf institutions. Instead of thinking of creative and clever ways to combine the long lifespan and other advantages of elves to create a government that benefits them.
Sure, they aren't perfect and conflicts are important to tell stories. But these fictional worlds also need to be believable. And elves that are just dysfunctional are not that.

As a result, you often see people arguing that their long lifespan would be some kind of detriment. Instead of elves using said long lifespan in ways that make sense for them. And they are also intelligent beings, so they might find the flaws within their systems themselves and work on solutions. Just like we humans do.

For instance, anons are quick to point out how elves holding positions for centuries would stifle progress. When elves would realize that as well and would likely implement temporary positions, rotating positions or voting systems. Or legal rulings to abolish certain people from positions based on their actions. So that a violent uprising is not needed (as often).

Or right now "hur dur elves take centuries to make decisions", as if time actually slows down around them. They are smart, they know that sometimes, you need to act NOW.

I have no idea if there is ever a tendency for a ruler ruling for a long time to centralize power more than rulers, or ruling houses, that rule for a short time. It seems to me, that any ruling faction will attempt to centralize as much control as possible, doesn't matter if elf, human, dwarf or whatever. However, decentralization is something that can befall any nation or kingdom. And sorry for the non-answer, but I think that depends overall on the actual structure of the nation, kingdom or empire in question. And also what means are available to organize and govern it, and communicate with other parties (it's far easier to maintain control of a far-away region if you can communicate with the local ruler, for example by telephone, or magic).
>>
>>96803835
I just gonna dump them on various empty islands where they will be force to forage for food and water but the biggest goal will be equipment maintenance and, most importantly, ship maintenance. The plan is for proper ship-maintaining ports to be very rare, so the players will either be forced to sail in a weak but easily-maintained ship or get a bigger vessel but with a more limited option of ports to properly park it in.
>>
>>96803875
I honestly can't even see elves past a certain age even caring much about government.
Everyone's got their own projects, hobbies, their old First Kingdom-old manor could use a new coat of paint…
I envision it as something like this:
>a bunch of young elven "adventurers"
Read: elves at "learning about the world" and "getting it out of your system" phases, where "it" could be anything, from a desire for change and seeing it NOW, to fucking everything that moves.
>relatively-young adult elves that make up the majority of politically-active elves
Still young to desire change, but mature enough to know it takes time and effort to enact them.
>"mature" elves that still keep in touch with how the empire/kingdom is doing
Folks that take time off their own stuff to help out, usually by taking on apprentices or teaching in universities, elven or not.
>elders
Practically hermits that rarely crawl out of their towers, and those that do may bring out with them something world-altering, good or bad.

The older an elf gets, the more they focus on their own devices, leaving the worldly matters to the young and eager for change.
Meanwhile, since elves are immortal and, thus, unlikely to develop conditions like dementia or Alzheimer's, I don't think they'd get too ornery, which is partly caused by organic degradation.
Think of it like this: old elves have already proven everything, both to themselves and others, and don't have such a need for validation. Now they seek fulfilment through their craft, or whatever it is they do.
Being sensible adults they are, they step aside and let the next generations take the scene, acting as guides or mentors to help them when they stumble or fall short.

So, with all this in mind, a political system would likely encompass mostly the younger generations, while seeking counsel on pertinent matters with the wise elders, who live in their own world, perhaps literally if it's a high magic setting.
>>
>>96803875
>Or right now "hur dur elves take centuries to make decisions", as if time actually slows down around them. They are smart, they know that sometimes, you need to act NOW.
This is precisely why the enlightened elfocracy keeps those petty human kingdoms around. Friendly client states to get their hands dirty doing wars and such, all for a few measly elven trinkets.
>>
>>96803989
Sure, that's a reasonable take. Elves would probably favour a government that largely leaves them alone and allows them to just do that. They are probably more concerned about local politics that affect them directly than voting on stuff that has no effect on them but is bothersome for others. That's why some kind of aristocracy or monarchy with democratic elements on the local scale would make sense for me. Local rulers are expected to uphold the laws and protect the people, and the king is expected to protect the people from outside forces and maintain diplomatic ties with other nations. I pay my taxes, leave me alone, I got some divination studies to do, just keep the streets clean.

On the contrary, large political institutions that amass a lot of power and bother people all over the place, seems like an overly human thing to do. The idea to extend myself over an institution to gather power and bother other people. That's like a cope for short-lived races.

Oh man that's right, A5E has a (simple) system for item durability too. Tied into a bunch of other stuff, like sacrificing a shield to negate a crit and expanding on the various toolkits or that some types of armor are vulnerable to crits of specific damage types.

But their ocean journey could have interesting problems. 50ish NPCs all eating supplies on the ship on top of the party, the need to stop to get more food and clean water. The slow chipping away at the sailors resolve in the heroic quest when they'd much rather go back home.

I got a handful of sea critters for them to maybe run into. Young sea serpents, ocean Chimera (shark, narwhal, lobster), and worse things if they decide to travel through more open ocean.

I am honestly really excited for the next part. Just hoping the Scheduling Boss doesn't get in the way.

>50ish NPCs all eating supplies on the ship on top of the party
Kek, you wish. For the first couple of chapters of campaign (probably till lvl6) they wont be able to get a ship that can run a crew bigger than 8. I think 20-25 crew will be tops I plan for them for a "bigger" ship options later in the game just so they don't end up micromanaging the characters on the ship into forever.
>A5E has a (simple) system for item durability too.
I think 3.5e hardness system works flawlessly, especially if your throw monsters at them with powerful sunder attacks.

>I got a handful of sea critters for them to maybe run into. Young sea serpents, ocean Chimera (shark, narwhal, lobster), and worse things if they decide to travel through more open ocean.
That's all planned. Subnautica gave me tons of inspirations for semi-submerged cave systems that would work as dungeons so swim checks, fort saves for holding breath, navigation and spatial awareness will be key. Also one PC wants to play a ranger so some kind of amphibian sharkdog would be very useful. Water really does give tons of options for encounters, including the Z axis movement, especially with creatures that can dive and swim at the same time.

I think the way they handle it is a vehicles hardness is its AC. So the big greek galley they'll be in just ignores anything less than 15 damage. Mind they won't be in command of the thing, unless the captain dies somehow. They'll be the last survivors of a naval assault, the city the current chapter is in wanting vengeance against the cult. Which NPCs survive are gonna be left up to chance, the ship they'll be on at the time might not even survive

You don't know how anonymous posting works. I was one of the anons engaging in the elf government discussion before that.
We would have less backseat jannies if actual jannies did some work. But you are also more concerned about people complaining than what they complain about, which means that you might as well have no interest in keeping these threads clean of any filth, shitposting and porn.
We can also do this meta-discussion through the whole thread, killing it. Which is something that you are very eager to do, apparently. Despite your complaints about "backseat jannies".

so why did you stop when you saw tits just to start feeding the troll? Is this some thing people on reddit do to virtue signal and bring attention to the mods so they can delete things they don't like?

Because the other anon didn't reply to my post. Which is fine, a discussion doesn't need to go on forever.
Have you actually tried reading the thread?

I like the idea of a maid/butler elf, in a non-coomer way. A noble immortal creature that for one reason or another serves humans over multiple generations, be it because it was cast of from their own kingdom in a fantasy setting or is one of those urban elves in a modern fantasy setting that treats a job they're going to do for a decade or two as a temporary side gig.

And then they spend the next century either serving one family and bonding with them, seeing new generations being born and seeing them off before moving on, or one that switches their employers every few years but bonds with other working people.

Has anyone actually read these books? Would elven rural south even work as a game setting?
>>
>>96829024
I'm sure someone has, and no
>>
>>96826947
Counterpoint: ______
I actually don't have one, you are right.
Elves should have some use for axes (the hippie tree-nigger elves that don't hurt no wood are lame, if you are forester, an axe is useful). But maces and clubs? I can see them using long sticks with mace-heads at the end. Like a two-handed kind.
But not these overly heavy fantasy hammers. Not because elves can't have the strength to wield them, it's just a very unelfy way of wielding a weapon.
>>
>>96829024
Why the fuck would someone read that?
>>

>hippie tree-nigger elves that don't hurt no wood
Anyone who actually cares about woods knows that you do have to cut the dead or sick trees sometimes.
If you don't, they will eventually become tinder for the forest fire that'll wipe out more than anyone ever could manage in a lifetime.
If anything, forest elves should be as harsh and pragmatic as nature itself, to the point of seeming utterly alien to everyone.
Forest elves would absolutely have uses for axes.
Maces need metal, which is hard to come by in a forest, but clubs should be easy enough to carve out of wood.
A small cudgel could come in handy to knock people out to throw them out of the forest, rather than killing them.

>Has anyone actually read these books?
Someone has to have, but this is the sort of AI-churnned TikTok slop that's made for
>Would elven rural south even work as a game setting?
Probably not. The "rural South" isn't that special or interesting of a setting unless you have something interesting to say, and frankly the sort of people who want to shoehorn it into fantasy typically doesn't. The "redneck elf" idea usually comes from attempts to modernize existing wood elf archetypes.
