>>96785999Is this real? this shit cannot be real. what a dogshit list. Maro is too retarded for words someone kill this nigger with a bag of hammers please
>>96786403Original Kamigawa was a total failure outside of 2 cards relevant in constructed. Epic is the worst keyword of all time. The Kamigawa flip cards were awful. Bushido was bad. It was a weak set over all. The draft environment was shit. It sold like ass.It only developed a cult fan base from people that started mtg long after it came out and flopped because set: JapanNeon Dynasty succeeded by catering to the newfags with set: Japan but also meaningfully advancing snd changing the setting for oldheads, having a decent draft environment and having many mechanically interesting and powerful cards for constructed and the slop format.
>>96786572It was also the set where they started taking the multiverse concept seriously, instead of making Dominaria Continent #1488. It was a vital step on the design side to how Magic was built going forth. Ravnica, Innistrad, Mirrodin, Theros, and all the rest all owe their existence to Kamigawa being the block that set out to build a plane.
>>96786572You speak the truth, also the arcane gimmick was terrible. I think neon dynasty was just a forgettable set overall because it was such a mid era of magic where things came and went so quickly. (a continuing problem today) It was a decent set, I really enjoyed the drafts. But to be the 6th most influential set for him is crazy

Kaminawabunga, my name is LSV-Sama. I'm a 27 year old American Piggie (Magic the Gathering fan for you gaijins). I preorder Secret Lairs and Universe Beyond products, and spend my days perfecting my shuffling art and playing superior game modes. (Commander) I train with my foiled deck every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is curved over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword Magic Judge two years ago, and I have been getting better every day. I speak Nebraskan accent fluently, both American and the Oink dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Nebraska history and their farming code, which I follow 100% When I get my Nebraska citizenship, I am moving to Aurora to attend a prestigious pig farm to learn more about their magnificent culture. I own several Commander decks, which I bring to my locals. I want to get used to playing them before I move to Nebraska, so I can fit in easier. I bow to WotC and oink as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond. Wish me luck in Nebraska!

>>96786626>>96786630I fucked my shit up slightly, Mirrodin was before Kamigawa. That being said, all four of those are still directly within the overall "scope" of Dominaria. The existence of the first three is entirely about their relationship to Dominaria, with Mirrodin being the result of a Dominaria planeswaker going off to make his own blackjack-and-hookers gig in much the same way as Yawgmoth. Kamigawa was the first time that they completely separated a plane from existing in context of Dominaria and explored a strong inspirational vision completely independently of it. Without the Kami, you can't have the gheists of Innistrad or the Nyxborn of Theros, because you're still unconsciously working in that box of how death and undeath work on Dominaria and its local area.
>>96785824How can we accelerate the enshittification of magic fast enough that there is still a playerbase elft to rebuild it after it inevitably rock bottoms? I'm talking 12 sets a year, instants getting a rules change to not target legendary creatures, wotc printing a 2 mana 5/5 with flying, vigilance, haste, lifelink, ward - ante your mortgage, and "when this creature enters, exile target opponents magic the gathering collection. Each card costs X to return where X is the WoTC approved value. All proceeds are directly deposited into MaRos bank account"When this creature dies, create five hundred treasure tokens and make a suggestion for the next months monopoly theme
>>96786774>playerbase elft to rebuild it after it inevitably rock bottomsThe only people who will be there to rebuild it are the reason it went to shit in the first place who don't have the sense to quit. And whoever is in charge of Magic when it is revived will make the product for those who killed the game, exactly as it was now or before it died. Anybody who has the game mind when rebuilding Magic has to fight through these people - do you really expect us to succeed when we can't fucking succeed now with the full attention of the half-alive players?Magic only survives as a paper game because OTHER games make the LGS model possible. But that business model is fucked because board games are no longer in vogue, tabletop RPG is fucked because it takes so much effort, Warhammer is still fine, but card games have so much of their money moving through TCGPlayer rather than stores.

Same with Kamigawa in a sense because it provided a backstory for the Umezawa line whose decendant would be responsible for Bolas getting killed off the first time.Really, the first plane that was entirely separated from Dominaria's affairs was Ravnica, because Azor was the only related planeswalker and he had no particular connection to Dominaria.

>>96786908>not blocking with nully-d against an incoming swifty
>>96787157And to return the piggyback, the other set with huge implications is of course Lorwyn, which would formalize the story structure of "5-10 members of the ensemble cast go to a new plane, meet the locals, and get up to trouble". That episodic structure would be the narrative backbone of the game all the way up to the 4-part pseudo-block climax of DMU/BRO/ONE/MOM.Of course, then everything went to shit, but it's interesting to look back and see just how much of Magic's way of doing things formed right in that late '04-late '07 window.
Rat Demon Guide2BCreature - Rat DemonWhen this creature enters, each opponent discards a card and you lose life equal to the amount of cards discarded this way.Exile this creature from your hand: add B1/1
>>96787218Anon, it's not even compfags. The game is unplayable even casually, and making any rules or ban lists, turns the game into a pseudo competitive scene.Of course people are always going to gravitate towards having the most optimal decks, but when the optimal decks are pure bloated solitaire cancer, don't need to wonder why people complain. It's pure design issues.
>>96787308Honestly I blame over optimization. Any misplay from a deck us internalized as "Hmm, better tighten it up" to the point after a year you ship of theseus it so much you're theme is gone in favor of response.
>>96787319Just think about thisWhen's the last time you saw any game mechanic or designs in any game released in the last decade, have any real downsides? The broader audience doesn't like actually playing games, hence why game design is approached with a mentality of optimizing everything and turning everything into low risk-high reward.

>>96787094>>96787408I started dumping my more valuable cards at an LGS for shit returns last year, which I regret now because I set up a TCG shop to get rid of the stuff they wouldn’t take and the margins are way better even if it is more effort on my part. I’m slowly selling off every card I own, saying goodbye to the ones I have good memories of as I mail them off to new homes (probably in commander decks, but whatcha gonna do).I’ve gone from something like 10k cards to 2k and sales are dwindling as my more popular cards are almost all depleted. At this point I might just dump them on Facebook marketplace for free to purge myself of the cross of nostalgia and juvenility.
>>96787415The only people who liked companion and had a semi-decent reason for doing so were limited players who enjoyed the exercise of making a deckbuilding constriction work in draft. >>96788734askers?
>>96787598>>96788951Analogy in general is the flaccid backbone of many a poorly intentioned argument. Every propagandist under the sun craves a simplistic message that the the 99 iq havers can wrap their shrunken frontal lobes around. Food anagly is where logical arguments go to die. "To explain my idea, instead of showing you how it actually works, let me compare it to a food that you're eating. That's right, my idea is just like not eating this food. Isn't that so profound" but it's not. If something isbtrue, it can be explained in cold hard facts without resorting to analogies. Of course, the inhabitants of the internet are largely retarded and thus take these analogies as the gospel truth.
>>96788951>and if there's anything that the modern shitposter adores it's a meaningless phrase they can trot out when encountering common stimulusIt's called a "thought-terminating cliche", i.e. a canned argument that's used to justify not thinking about the details of a topic. Whether it's logically-consistent or even applicable to an objection is irrelevant, the point is that it's an excuse for people to blindly assume they are correct. This shit dates back at least to ancient China, and is common anywhere a dogma is enforced by some sort of power.
>>96788959
>>96788981Analogies serve to simplify things, not to be used as stand-ins for arguments.>just explain the thingSure, and when you explain the thing, you're just going to get the internet equivalent of the fluoride stare; "uhm i dont understand what you're saying so ur a schizo"This is also an analogry.

Anything can be a hobby.
>>96789329Ah yes. The only way that slop which broke standard can be balanced is if there is more broken auto-play slop in the format. Still two izzet auto-play slop decks in the top 2 in spite of that.

>>96789749If you have any sort of appreciation for artistry and technical detail you can easily tell that right is a way more impressive illustration. Left is decent but pretty bland and indulgent modern anime art, I'll grant that it shows more care for detailed shading than most gacha-core slop you see these days but it's still nowhere near as impressive as the other art.

Old MTG had so much soul. Nu MTG is nothing but slop. Anyone could tell it was going downhill hard when they started printing those Pokemon borders instead of the true MTG borders.

>>96790364I can only speak for me and the shop where I usually go. Things seem the same, only spooderman is being less bought/played than any other set I remember. Even the stupid hat sets like the ravnica detectives and the hot wheels one sold like hot cakes by comparison, and there were a lot of limited being played. But the people is more or less the same volume, only they mostly ignore the current set.
>>96790364The end is near. And we still have to see the worse, i mean next year we have in quickly succession TMNT, Pic related and Star Trek

>>96790468Same, limited play didn't seem to take a huge hit, people just started asking for other sets to be drafted instead of SPM. A store owner I know told me he considered SPM to be a flop but even then they managed to move most of their stock, at least enough to not lose money with it.

"Perpetual" stories like comics and wrestling often have that problem. I don't think they mind that much since every once in a while they still have a big hit doing like a billion dollars but it's clear that their hits are getting rarer.

>>96788481Akira came out during a time period where anime didn't have huge cultural relevance in the west and high-budget adult animation was fairly rare. It and Ninja Scroll made burgers much more aware of the merits of Japanese animation and basically created a market for it. Its actual plot is mediocre but the animation is gorgeous and that's what people remember about it.Ninja Scroll is sick as fuck btw, watch it

>>96791236Just think about. Those guys could get any cards printed they wanted for personal used. Cocks could have even bullied Nosewater into giving him some lotuses to play with. But instead they're playing exclusively with slop printed in the last five years. And on top of that they aren't even using sleeves to make shuffling easier.
