>>96837162>What alternative wargame has the best original worldbuilding? It's Quar I'm afraid
>received some ordered miniatures today>foot knights>mounted knights>serjeants>peasants>oathmark orcs>frostgrave cultists 2 & 3Time to kitbash some nice pseudo-historical medieval warbands.
>>96837396Do you have any specific rulesets in mind for them?
>>96837224why are you afraid
Anyone have scans of all the Warcrow stuff?
Was Death Fields not an actual wargame until this year or something? I'm just skimming through plastic proxies and it seemed like the flavor text for Wargames Atlantic's miniatures had a decent premise at least.
>>96837568Yes, it was just a loose grouping of sci fi military miniatures until two months ago when they made the rule set.
>>96837568The rules stuff they put out sucks major butthole
>>96837603>>96837592I see. That's a pity.
>>96837396>>peasantsWhat peasants did you get?
>>96837780Cannot tell they are all covered in mud and shit.
>>96838229Nice
>>96838229You should wash them before priming, silly
>>96838238Extra points when the most popular weapon is a crossbow that behaves like a modern gun.
>>96836315>The drove pastebin is also notoriously out of date.I don't have access to that pastebin.>>96836272>NTA but I had no idea someone is still maintaining those lists.I do my best. The odious troll has been running off most of the old hands who actually contribute shit, which is all the more reason you should just report/ignore it when it starts spouting off>>96837568>Was Death Fields not an actual wargame until this year or something? It was very much one of those "excuse rulesets" a company claims to have to justify making a shitload of 40k/WHF proxies. Iron-Kore is the exact same kind of thing. Kings of War and WarEngine started out that way but branched out later>>96837780Likely the Fireforge ones, it's a decent plastic set. I've debated snagging their peasant zombies for a while, but I already have more than enough for anything but that medieval hack for Last Days.
>>96838596>Likely the Fireforge ones, it's a decent plastic setI have some that have been sitting since their Kickstarter that I've never gotten around to. Soon hopefully.
>>96837568The rules were always planned but they've only just got round to doing them, not sure why - maybe because when they were starting out they didn't have enough slack capacity?Personally, the concept doesn't interest me. I did read a playthrough of the alpha rules and it does have an interesting wounds / morale / initiative system where figures gain and lose confidence over time which affects their abilities). However, the only opinions of it I have seen on /awg/ are single sentence "This sucks kill yourself" posts, so I assume they're all by that guy who goes ballistic anytime WGA is mentioned.
>>96837162Sentries look great with that clear plastic
Who makes the best villagers and why is it wargames atlantic?
>>96839208I was at the booth at SPIEL yesterday and I really wanted to like the game, but I doubt that it will go anywhere. Archon really delivered with the miniature quality, but the video game proportions do not look good in 32mm imho. I guess 15mm or smaller would have worked better aesthetic wise, though I get why they went 32mm. I think it generally sufferes from the fact that starcraft evolved for RTS pvp for 30 years, while 40k refined itself for the tabletop. And it kind of needs to beat 40k somehwere, because that is where you want to get a huge part of you playerbase from. I just can't imagine why anyone would leave 40k for a game less grimdark, when you can go full grimdark and go fro trench crusade.I don't know the potential player base for a game like this, but I'd have done a demonworld kind of game, with hexes and small scale miniatures and maybe capture the base building somehow. Maybe the rules are so good though, that they are enough of a reason to play it...
>>96839331Honestly, of all the Blizzard properties to make a tabletop game, I personally would have gone for Diablo. Something more along the lines of FFG's old Descent boardgame perhaps.Or fuck, if you're absolutely wedded to 32mm, try to attract the MCP market and a massive crossover game based on HotS.
>>96839331Grimdark is just a meme at this point, Space Marines are super heroes, Primarchs are returning and so on. There's plenty of hope in this setting now so how grimdark it really is? Also not everyone is into grimdarkness, a lot of people are into coolness and SC has a lot of it.From what they said on their AMA streams the game is shaping to be a good beer game - not as narrative as 40k, quick to set up, simple to pick up but still deep enough to not get boring quickly and pull some sneaky stuff on your friends. I guess they are aiming at casuals and new people, not necessarily at Warhammer vets.No one is going to switch completelly to SC but it's going to have it's fanbase for sure.
>>96839208So if the game is 32mm (blegh), how tall are the protoss gonna be? I'm kinda liking the zealots I've seen but I'm wondering if they'll look bad next to nonstarcraft 28mm dudes. Particularly since I only plan on buying some figures and not getting into the whole game. >>96839208
>>96839566I used to be really into 40k orks and because of that I never once have associated 40k with grimdark. The whole thing is too silly even if you remove orks. Years into it someone said it was grimdark and I laughed because I thought he was joking. He was dead serious and it created very awkward tension.
>>96837396Just keep in mind that greathelms cannot be used in a dark age setting
>>96839566It needs a player base to support full plastic releases. It can't get by with your average /awg/ player base. I think it aims somehwere at a top 3 non-GW player base. >>96839420HotS would have been perfect as a reskin for their MotU game and then later on branch out into full star craft skirmish. It also has 10 times the player base that star craft 2 has. Might be hard to get the license though.
>>96839696I'm not sure. I know Marines are Primaris size but I don't have any photos of Zealots next to them. I'm guessing around head taller than a Primaris.
>>96838596>I don't have access to that pastebinYeah, it's a couple years old now, I'd be surprised if the anon who made it is still around. Then again, this board has some lead-rotten relics still posting on it, so who knows.I reckon our best bet is to just redo it or take it out of the copypasta, as we'd have to track down and reupload all of those files anyway.>>96838748Yeah, they're probably serviceable. I don't see them getting much traction anyway, given how little lore and interesting art the setting has. The Quar and Last War, on the other hand, are more popular and interesting for the general public, and it shows.>>96839420A Diablo board game would honestly go hard, more so if they went with the D1 and D2 designs for that old school vibe.>>96839566Yeah, grimdark got popular because of stuff like the 28mag, however, it's not something that gw has really embraced for over a decade now. It's a relic of 3rd-5th edition 40k, yet newer fans treat it as though it was the ultimate truth of the setting.Current 40k feels almost opposite to 2nd ed, as the setting is extremely light and heroic with a (somewhat) dark aesthetic.
>>96839868> Diablo Board GameArchon is making a board game out of Quake so yeah, now that they are working with Blizzard I can see them doing something like that with Diablo. But more than anything I want a Warcraft 3 wargame.
>>96839999I would love a comprehensive Warcraft 3 game... especially someone turned around and used the models to make tabletop DOTA.
>>96839331dont let jarek read this

What are your favorite off-brand sci fi troopers miniatures?
>>96839712In the Rogue Trader days I played a Jokaero and my friend played a human smuggler, our relationship heavily based on Every Which Way but Loose. If you had told me people would be having serious discussions about what primarch could whup who's ass or any of the tragic 40k threads that make up this board I wouldnt have believed you.
There was a short lived skirmish game from 2-5 years ago that was a weird war ww2 themed with Frankenstein-esque mad scientists. I believe the minis were metal and of mid range sculpting. I’m pretty sure the game failed. Shot in the dark does anyone know what I’m talking about?
