Where should I start with Idoneth, the old Spearhead or the new Spearhead?
>>
Alternative tq since op is a coomer albeit one with taste :
What's your favourite 'companion' sculpt/unit ? Duinclaw, memorian, gargoylian, that sorta stuff?
My vote goes to mista fangs, yes I know he's on the model.
>>
>>96864616
Or, dark horse option, the old Start Collecting. Which is still available at a local shop
>>
>>96864624
Well the old one should be much cheaper assuming it still has pre-2020 price
>>
>>96864616
They're both pretty good, although in a vacuum I would say new one is better. Like an insane 40% discount + every unit in the box is great or at least usuable (reavers). The foot hero and thralls in the old one aren't all that amazing to use.
However, they do work pretty well together if you don't mind having 3 sets of eels (which you shouldn't as idoneth I mean come on), so it might be worth picking up the old one first, since the new one will be here for a while.

Tldr: if you only get one get the new one, if you plan on expanding idoneth it might be worth picking the old one first and then the new one later

it's like 95 bucks, which does make it actually a worse deal considering the available discounts on the Spearheads.

Now that the Revenant Draconith is just 200 points, is it worth taking?

It's that or a unit of Varghiest and the Lash of the Sire trait for my current list.

Revenant Draconith is a cool as fuck model, so it's worth taking for that reason alone.

Had a similar idea about how to rewrite moral reams, except in my version mortal reams were smaller pocket realms that the incarnates created to evacuate people as the world was being destroyed. The old world remained and became Archaon's base of operation, but it was twisted by chaos and Archaon ended up micromanaging his troop after the victory because everyone started infighting for spoils

man there really is no redeeming the skullreapers, these things are just ugly as sin. I was thinking how I could convert them to look better but these are fucking horribly designed.

From what has said, Ogors are late 2026 so probably not. There will probably also be some kind of filler battletome release after Nurgle, we got 12 battletomes left to cover, they're going to start getting released very quickly.
>>
>>96865748
Stormcast have 8 but admittedly they're just the guys from most of the core boxes. They never released a separate warband (EXCEPT ONCE with the ranger guys) But yeah OBR got screwed too. DOK i'm still pissed that they never made the OG warband any good and then basically just put it out again but without the snake lady and a lamer looking leader.

Underworlds is somehow holding on by a thread (the thread being GW designed the models already and probably has like 1.5 years of releases left before they would have to consider letting it just fade away)

Underworlds is great but GW is fucking stupid and makes it impossible for a new player to pick up the game casually since they don't sell the game board individually from the box set, so if you want to play you just have to hope you actually like the box set warbands.

They also don't sell you fucking rivals decks with the warbands anymore, KEPT EM THE SAME PRICE THOUGH and upped the price of the standalone decks. I still think "2nd edition" was just an excuse to nix all the old stuff so people would be obligated to buy the new starter box under the impression it was gonna be "new".

The biggest joke of all time is they basically kept every warband about the same as it was before, so I guess it's just in the identity of specific warbands to be fucking useless. *cough Morgwaith, Eyes of the Nine, Ironskullz boyz * like imagine refreshing the entire game basically tossing out the EVERYTHING having a fresh start and then still just having a warband be shit.

>Yeah but gw is almost always retarded with side games so its unfortunately no surprise.

It sucks because 1st edition WAS starting to get rules bloat on top of all the random rules between editions for like "this is an objective spot, but you can flip it to be a whatever" I had a few decent homebrew rules to help shit move smoothly too. It was just so cool seeing how they could make some cool warbands even if the stats sucked sometimes.

Like the lightning zealot COS guys had a rule where if they were adjacent to one another they could effectively daisy chain attacks down the line but would lose buff on doing it, BUT if someone daisy chained through them they would get rebuffed. So you had to think on positioning and cards and also be careful because they were all made of paper, BUT lots of cards to boost your power up if your team died.

also the fact they're just using weather vanes and wearing as much metal as possible, covered in bandages from the constant electrocutions. It's just a really fun fucking warband. I mean bald is bald but you can swap hats, accessories, etc etc. Hair feels pretty secondary.

Also how schizo do you have to be in a conversation about water elves with hair that the thought of "oh god they're gonna be black" would even come up. You're like 3 layers removed from what is being discussed.

It's a limit but it's a limit in the same way most factions have it. There's a danger to going too far away from an established archetype. I'd be fine with a subsect of shorewalkers or other types of IDK with hair but I feel like if you start dropping them in the main group you're gonna wind up fucking too much with what is established.
>>
>>96866488
In that sense, they're lucky to have a thing at all - I dont much see a way around it other than wigs/fake hair like kelp, and I dunno if the Idoneth care about their lack of hair, or if they'd see it as a sign of weakness to care
>>
>>96865366
why do you think a guy is involved in any of this?
>>
>>96866529
I just assume if you're underwater you probably want less in the way, long standard elf hair would probably get pretty fucking annoying. I think even with no hair they are distinct in how they look compared to every other elf which is nice.

Closest I can imagine something like that for IDK would be like, mutants (mermaid-esque) who are specifically designed around looking attractive and more "human". Something that at a glance looks kind of attractive but the closer you get the more scaly and strange they look.

Still under the concept of kidnapping people but just using a different method. Could have it be people cursed by Manaan.

>>
Question anons, so underworld crews got sent to legends because they no longer have "something" unique in their stats (in AoS) and the game might probably get gutted?
>>
>>96866791
The game was gutted, it's called Underworlds 2nd edition.
>>
>>96866791
nobody really knows whats going on with underworlds right now. they got a new edition but it feels like maintenance mode, most underworlds bands got their AoS rules removed (just use the models as normal heroes), but some have actually become codified into new generic units like rippaz snarlfangs becoming a snarlboss and retinue. and to make things even weirder they unsquatted a bunch of squatted underworlds bands in the new 4 packs

so there isnt really one answer as to "this is whats definitely happening". as per usual with GW, the rollout is scattershot, inconsistent, and they are completely opaque about their intentions going forward.
>>

nta but i do think the idea of "opponents permission" rosters is just bad game design in general. even if the aos community at large is usually pretty good about it, any time you open your game up to autists or little dictator TOs giving you an "ummm ackshtually" about your old models, the fault lies with the game designers for leaving that space for negative treatment

You're making a fair point but it is fucking stupid to even have the function of squatting and legends-ing units. There's a local guy who's like "US BEST AOS TZEENTCH PLAYER" who I talk to about shit like this frequently who drives me up a god damn wall with this reasoning.

"Oh well rules are temporary, models are forever" yeah that's all well and fucking good but if I had a beastmen army or really fucking liked the sacrosanct stormcast I'd pop a blood vessel at that entire fucking thing basically being given a "time until execution" I'm still pissed that half of the cursed city stuff was basically given nerfed garbo rules and then made legends so that there's 0 chance of it coming back as playable.

Even with Dark Elves, high chance at this point given the rumors that they just get upgraded to Malerions Boyz/souped with DoK and remain Legacy in TOW.

Imo instead of legends there should just be a list of proxies like they did when CoS got purged. E.g. instead of say, Firebellies getting a legends warscroll they go "Just use this as a Butcher in your games." Same with stuff like Sacrosanct, I'd rather "Use this Sequitor as a Liberator" rather than the weird legends rules that you have no idea if the person you're playing with will be okay with it.

after reading the leaks im concerned with the future of ogres.
losing gunpowder weapons and going into a more "caveman" ascetic just revives the complain that the faction is just a orc reskin but its more valid this time.
They also go back to the maw worshipping instead of the much more interesting everwinter or even something like ravenak which is AOS original, its just fantasy ogre kingdomsbut oops all hunter.
Also the stonehorn and mournfang kits stay, ogres desperately needed better mounts because those sucked even back in fantasy especially the mournfang (RIP rhinox riders).
>>
>>96868141
I was saying this when it dropped. You could always do that yourself and write out a little guide to give your opponent, but it's an extra step
>>
>>96868164
Commemorative series rarely has lore. Bugmanson is the rare exception. It's mostyl jsut unused sculpts resold for aniversaries and events
>>
>>96868183
I guess we'll find out eventually. If lumineth and high elves can coexist, then surely umbraneth and dark elves will be fine. Bringing back legacy factions seems like an easy way for gw to keep making money on old ass kits, but they're being fairly conservative on it for now.
>>96868197
At least they're drippong the gorkamorka bullshit, though the everwinter is cool agree. I don't know if they're really going full caveman though, that's just one way to interpret whitefang's comments. They're supposedly keeping the ironblaster after all.
>>
>>96868197
>just revives the complain that the faction is just a orc reskin but its more valid this time.
its funny you say that, because its being a genuine concern for tows ogres now. legacy factions make it back there wholesale, and the only considerations for them to make it back in that setting is either by being souped with greenskins or Cathay.
Anyways I really need to see what exactly this caveman aesthetic really means.
>>
they need to make an anvil of apotheosis style unit builder (i think they might have had one at some point in 2nd edition, or at least a proto-version of it), and then make both it and anvil legal for matched play

im so sick of this ultra conservative, no allies, no coalition, no customization, everything in its neat little box game design.

and for what?

nothing is any more balanced than it was 2 editions ago. you still have armies coming out with 60%+ winrates and others down in the 30s and low 40s, the game isnt any easier to introduce to new players (outside of spearhead) because the scoring has become so complicated with seasonally rotating missions, battle tactics, and now seasonal warscrolls on top of a 100 page addendum you need to skim every 3-6 months
>>
>>96868242
>They're supposedly keeping the ironblaster after all.

>>96868362
i hate that its the opposite route 40k and old world took. i have many MANY criticisms of 40k and old world, but their handling of characters has mostly been great.

in age of sigmar, you are forced to take a hero per X number of units you want to take, but the heroes are largely mediocre, especially the foot heroes, and you wouldnt take them at all if you didnt have to

in 40k or old world, you take heroes because you want to, not because you have to (apart from 1 mandatory to lead the army), because they have a wide variety of customization, powerful abilities and low cost, especially in 40k, where 60-80pt shit like captains and farseers and primus's can be some of the strongest buffing pieces in a list, or lone operatives like reductus sabatuers, lictors, or assassins can be vital damage, control and objective pieces. and both the former category of attached heroes and the latter category of lone operative heroes have robust defenses against being sniped or singled out compared to age of sigmar as well.

the aos team has never really understood how to make characters good and compelling, but this newest team really doesnt understand
>>
>>96865831
>Morgwaith, Eyes of the Nine, Ironskullz boyz
I think those weren't released in 2.0 yet but I bet they would still be shit if released.
Morgok is almost the same but worse because there aren't any support cards from the plot deck and the new fighter cards + warscroll is worse than the 1.0 version.
Grinkrak is way worse, before you could inspire all grots with Grinkrak ability even if didn't have the rivals deck, in 2.0 you have like 4 quests in the warscroll and you need to do those to inspire (I don't even know if you can make the same multiple times)(I honestly didn't give a fuck to 2.0 so I just played it like 3 times).

I want to run my cool, excellent Underworlds models in my list but I can't unless I take ugly fatcast models and a Vanguard Chamber hero I have 0 interest in running. It's because of this that even though I have all the models I just don't bother playing them, especially when stuff like the generic hero on griffin and/or generic foot hero Stormcasts are useless. do fyreslayers actually have anything to do with the original slayer oaths from whfb or are they and their religion an entirely new thing that only resembles it aesthetically or draws from some of the themes?

i mean in lore continuity, the dwarfs from the world that was all or mostly died right? is there a direct lineage of slayer traditions that had been passed down through survivors or divine edict and then eventually evolved into the fyreslayer cult, or did grimnirs death inspire the fyreslayers cult spontaneously with no ties to the old slayer traditions, and they just happen to resemble them because thats grimnirs aesthetic?

Not HoH’s fault, not the store’s fault. Just no one shows up anymore. Tournaments that used to cap out at 16-20 players now struggle to get 6.
The few guys still around are chill, but most moved on to 40k or other systems.

It’s not even that 4th is bad, it just didn’t light a fire under anyone. No new blood coming in, no buzz online, no reason to stay excited.
Feels weird seeing a game I actually liked just quietly fade away.
>>
>>96870360
I think one of the big things is really having a reason to keep playing. AoS as a balanced and competitive tournament game is stupid. Playing through a bigger narrative event is where there's space to really shine, and they've let that all fall flat in favor of pushing people into playing seasons, and treating the GHB like a battlepass. It's counterintuitive to what makes miniatures fun, and why you might play them instead of a videogame in the first place.
>>

>>96870360
I'm gonna get called a baiter but I'll say it again: it fizzled out because they put in a bunch of crap new casual players hate like the double turn, mandatory manifestations, mandatory wizards, the whole way drops and heroes work. And then they stripped out all the soul and fun the previous editions had at least. I still love AoS but at this point I'm just hobbying until a new edition drops, but I'm a little pessimistic as I feel they're going to continue chasing the competitive player money machine and not change shit.

I am hoping future releases explore the HoH technological aspect more. As it stands now, Helsmiths do not come across as that technologically advanced (at least compared to Kharadron) which is tragicomic since the lore is great and one of the big reasons why someone would leave Grungi, Grimnir, Valaya, Gazul and others in favor of Hashut is precisely because Hashut offers technological wonders and secrets like no other.

Squatting models and armies is a great way to discourage people from investing into the game.

Although overall I like HoH range, I think GW really failed in showing their industry and technology elements properly.

I hope that in future GW explores 1. The religious side of Hashutite society ( other anons have written very good comments on this) and 2. The industrial and tech element of HoH. Give us a larger daemon engine that towers over Dominator, and is actually a proper fusion of mechanics and daemonsmithing. Something like K'daai Destroyer. Give us automata/golem units, War Daemon train and proper artillery, not this small mortar shit.
>>
>>96870993

That'd be the flying bull. With a 130mm base it's in the class of mega gargants. Go bigger and you're basically playing Adeptus Titanicus with magical bovines.

Sure he did. Khul's warscroll was in the tome up until this edition. The generic MLoK had a slightly different one. But as of 4e he's got WD rules only.

Mega-Gargants seem like their rules are too simply for how big and expensive (in points and in moolah) they are, especially if used as a Regiment of Renown - am I right in believing they have no abilities then but whats on their warscroll?

NTA but I agree. I hope it gets expanded upon in ths future.

Zharr Vyka itself should be a technological marvel beyond the scope of most if not all factions. A enormous ziggurat city that walks on ocean floor with gigantic mechanical claws. I have no doubt Helsmith submarines (in faction design video, GW showed minis of old mechanical Kraken submarines for Zharr Vyka segment of video) and ships are sent from it on near constant basis.

>>96871992
Dominator Engine could have had more pistons/gear/automata/clockwork parts. I hope we get a clockwork Hashutite daemon engine in the future.

For some reason Tahlia Vedra's best friend and immediate superior, Katrik le Guillon, is basically her clone. As in they are both middle-aged Reclaimed Aqshan women with a missing left eye, who elevated themselves from their common origins through a mercenary career that eventually landed them a paramount military position in Hammerhal. I don't know why they're essentially the exact same person but it is somehow amusing.

Well Zenestra isn't even a Sigmar worshiper, so it would be weird if she was a full on Sig-pope rather than a priest
>>
>>96873038
Honestly I didn't even know the cults unberogen were that organized, always got the idea they were a bunch of disparate religions and belief systems that followed the age of myth. So like, every one cult has their own pontifex (eg zenestra for the wheel people) and this grand pontifex lady is the one keeping them all in order?
Also while typing this out I feel we should've had a warcry warband that's a bunch of savages worshipping sigmar as the warrior-hunter god he was during the age of myth.
>>
>>96872068
>Dominator Engine could have had more pistons/gear/automata/clockwork parts
That doesn't seem to be how they like to do things. The things they bring along don't work on physical principles of steam pressure or combustion or whatever. It's just magic.
>>
>>96873304
It's not been explained how the cults relate to each other, or what authority the supreme pontifex can exercise over the lesser pontifices. What is known is that the supreme pontifex represents the cults in hammerhal's grand conclave.

it wont be bigger than that, it cant. age of sigmar as a game uses terrain, and the potential spacing between that terrain constrains maximum base size to like 160mm tops. any larger and you start getting into the territory of literally not being able to place it on the field or move across the board, unless it has some rule where it just deletes terrain i guess.
