>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, Judge Dredd,
HeroClix, Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.
Archon Studio, Atomic Mass Games, Black Site Studios, CMON, Mantic, North Star Military Figures,
OnePageRules, Osprey, Para Bellum, Seb Games, Spellcrow, TTCombat, Victrix, Wargames Atlantic, Warlord Games...
...and many other publishers.

At the very least the StarCraft game should have a rule to start with a choice of buildings and said units will respawn as long as their building isn't destroyed. After Halo Flashpoint release it's not even such an alien or risky thing anymore.

Then tell them to hire marketing specialists to promote it because now it is all but unknown.
>>
>>96877690
I wonder if StarCraft will be yet another case of /tg/ underestimating the nostalgia-driven demand and turn out to be successful (by alternative wargames standard of course).
>>
>>96874900
They are on par with GW quality. I think everyone who has their stuff says the same thing. I got their Beholder and Townsfolk box a while back and they are very decent, looking at Trench Crusade's sprues they really caught up to GW.
>>
>>96877690
The Chernobyl Green grass is /grog/ kino, not gonna lie.
>>
>>96877858
What is this GW quality meme? I built a MESBG Troll Cave few months ago and the gaps around his neck and shoulders plus left side were massive. About a month ago I built a free Space Marine sprue and it was finnicky as fuck with lots of fiddly parts for what ended up being a monopose figurine anyway.
>>
>>96878141
Never had Cave Trolls so not sure what they are like but I'm into Horus Heresy and kits for it are very good
>>
>>96878141
>I built a MESBG Troll Cave few months ago and the gaps around his neck and shoulders plus left side were massive
Next time check the release date on the sprue - that should answer your question.
>>
>>96878141
GW quality myth is spread by 40kuck who worship GW and try to justify the outrageous price to themselves. Their plastic quality is pretty good and has very minimal mold lines, but they are all absolutely dogshit to assemble and the sculpting of the models themselves are really bad. It's really obvious a lot of their newer models were made by interns working for peanuts. They routinely fuck up basic anatomical proportions. Pic related example, how long would someone neck have to be to fit in this costume?
>>
>>96878200
Sculpting and the actual design of the miniature has nothing to do with production quality. GW plastics have zero flash (very common with some Warlord kits for example) and almost no mold lines. Archon is very much identical in that regard. They too, have bad sculpts and sometimes mediocre designs, but the production quality is excellent. Since with StarCraft, the design is not their own, the result should be great, if you like the StarCraft design to begin with.
>>
When is the starcraft miniature game supposed to come out?
>>
>>96878264
Early next year. preorder starts in December.
>>
>>96877768
It should have a pretty good launch just b/c nostalgia selling starter sets, but who knows if it will have any legs.
>>
>>96878304
The initial sales/preorder stuff is guaranteed to be good, but the rules need to be good enough to keep people interested in it, thats for sure.
>>

I'm in need of some 15mm werewolves with rifles. My 15mm range knowledge is not great - I basically just know the Battlefront stuff for Team Yankee/FoW, the existence of Peter Pig, and that's about it. Any pointers on where I should be looking? I'm okay with having to do some conversion work, though I'm not great with metal models (lack of experience with them outside Infinity).

I have the base game and though I haven't played it in oh, about 16 years, I can tell you the minis suck. I assume they've co-opted the community council effort to keep the game alive and healthy re: ongoing balances and releasing the actual finished complement of fucking guilds.
Fans were writing, sculpting and releasing [free] product so that GB would live for several years after being axed, and I'm honestly surprised the dogs that run SFG allowed the enthusiasts still employed there to return to releasing official product for it.

Yeah it's basically an exaggerated hounskull bascinet. The bestiarum team have a great eye for aesthetics. However, I wish they made the models a bit sturdier and released more multipart kits.

Also thought of buying the turnip28 lancer kit, as they are modular, have pistols and disgusting hairless mutant horses. Would fit to that army quite well. Just need to buy the 2nd edition of dragon rampant and try make my son play it with me instead of just Xenos rampant.

>>
>>96881040
>I got a very recent sprue that was released last year for all I know
I don't think so. The only plastic Cave Troll GW released is pic related and the mold is from 2005. It makes it older than most Anons in this thread. There is no other plastic Cave Troll in GW's model range so you either don't even know the name of the kit you bought or don't understand the difference between the kit release date and kit manufacturing date.
>>
>>96878389
The Cave Troll sure is but the 32mm Space Marine was released last year for all I know and it was a very frustrating experience in its own way. Plus I could already read back then how GW was so fantastic so I was genuinely surprised by how both kits had their own huge issues when I started working on it.

Sorry Luigi I realize where we got mixed up. I wasn't claiming my Cave Troll was very recent; I pointed out to you the second part of my first post: a very recent Space Marine kit that came with it's own issues.

For me there was no point focussing on the Cave Troll being old because the newer SM dismiss any "such where the times" argument. Given, the shitiness cursor has moved quite a bit and it's not about gaps anymore. Hurray I guess.

Since people our age started to end up with full-time families, 60-hour workweeks and/or cancer. I only see my mates once every 3-4 weeks if stars align and I would play a wargame only once every 2-3 months if it wasn't for my wife that is not so much into wargaming but she enjoys painting miniatures. I have hard time to shit on people for not playing games but the hobby aspect of wargaming is something that is being done in solitary in most cases anyway so there are no excuses.

Reaper Pumpkin demon, not technically finished because the basing material I wanted to use vanished, how spooky.

At least GW used to fill a useful function in the wargaming space by bringing in kids that might eventually move to better games. Now they're focused on squeezing the kids that previous iterations of GW brought in 10-20 years ago, probably leading to a massive collapse in their own playerbase eventually as people get older.

sweet, glad it worked. Out of interest, whats up with 3.5? I was about to scrape all the lists again but heard there was some drastic changes so was waiting for it to settle down. Is it still in a bit of a state? I thought it was just adding some rules to make things a bit more unique?

They tried to make shit more unique and totally-not-Warhammer which lead them to turn OPR into even bigger keyword soup. The update was half-assed at best so the rules, naming and interactions are not even consistent. They will sort it out eventually but personally I see no reason to switch to v3.5 if I was perfectly happy with v3.4.

I ignored the question because it's retarded and proves you're a fat ass. Fatties ALWAYS fall back on the bench press because it takes zero athleticism or fitness ability to lay on your back and press for 5 seconds of effort. In fact, if the "sport" of powerlifting is any indication, the bench press even FAVORS being a fatass.
Whereas any young athletic and fit male is able to run a decent 5k, something that is prohibitive to fatties and old broken losers. Meanwhile, I regularly see old 60+ year old boomers who are built like used tires laying on the bench repping out 250, 275, 400+.
Can you run a max effort 5k? Can you rep out 10 clean pullups? If you can't then you're not fit and no one cares about your bench press fatty

You're the one that claimed you were the fittest.
You didn't have to type out all the cope.

Post games noodle arms.
>>
>>96884280
>Can you run a max effort 5k?
I'm not saying cardio isn't important for health, but it's definitely a skeleton cope. You aren't fit if you aren't strong.
>Can you rep out 10 clean pullups?
I'm mostly doing 220lb lat pulldowns so I don't have to fuck with adding extra weight with a belt.

gtfo with this poser bullshit attitude, you are on a weeb forum in a thread about plastic soldiers. Nobody gives a shit about your athleticism, the only people that care about gym bores are other gym bores and you should all fuck off elsewhere to talk that terminally dull bullshit.
>>
>>96884280
I kinda agree desu. The bench and other lifts are for training for sports. Thinking the lift itself is the sport is cope for losers that couldn't play sports in their youth

You probably don't know this, but that's exactly how MESBG works, both sides roll at the same time and you determine who won the duel, and then that miniature(s) gets to try and kill the opponent(s).

Didn't mean to but ended up painting something suitable for the October challenge.

Trying out a suggestion from a youtube. Under painted it with two colours, web blending them in the middle. Then painted out some of the highlights with bright paint.

It was then lacking some "pop", mostly due to not having done any shading. Using a sepia wash kinda fixed that, although the colours ended up a bit washed out

I'm no furry or anthro freak, but one of the local LGSs that sells second hand stuff too also has a £2 per miniature 3D printed section

I liked the look of this 40mm-base sized sci-fi rabbit enough to get him for Stargrave. Every warband needs a big guy and a small guy, it's the law.

I'm 68. Can't really paint anymore after a whole life of labor before being discarded as soon as my hands couldn't follow the churn. Lately I've been trying these AK acrylics and they do me fine, but mostly I keep busy reading books about the Roman Empire, War of the Rose (my favorite), black powder era and Napoleonic. Lately it's been a book a week and I've developed quite the knowledge regarding armor authenticity. In fact I can spot any wrong paldron or breech on any miniature within seconds. It's obviously not the case with any of you here since you refuse to admit being part of the hobby is opening a book at least once in your life and my effort posts always goes to waste.

Amicalement,
Armand

Your effort goes to waste because we are not counting buttons in /awg/. This thread is for fantasy games and unless the authenticity is your priority by your own choice, it doesn't matter.
