Since /osrg/ has collectively decided 2e doesn't belong in their thread which is fair enough, I thought we could start a thread of our own for it since there are many wonderful settings and rule changes to discuss! All 2e-related topics welcome here, post your homebrew kits, talk about Spelljammer and classic Forgotten Realms, let's hear those campaign anecdotes! To kick the thread off, what's your favorite 2e tie-in novel?
>>96893030>what's your favorite 2e tie-in novel?I found The Ring of Winter to be pretty cool.
People in the /osrg/ love 2e and that's the place to discuss it. OP is just a troll.
>>96893457Is that one of the Harper novels? I haven't read it! Maybe I should. I'm not big on the Harpers as an FR faction though, it has to be said.>>96893501No, that's not true at all. Everyone there except one extremely angry guy agrees 2e isn't OSR and it's never really discussed at all, it's just that one guy screaming.
>>96893540Fuck off, OP. You made this thread just to try to gaslight this board, and we're not idiots.
>>96893559Nope! I made this thread out of my genuine love for 2nd Edition. Hoping for some good engagement! I know many anons like Spelljammer, for instance.
>>96893540>Everyone there except one extremely angry guy agrees 2e isn't OSR and it's never really discussed at all, it's just that one guy screaming. That only in your head, retard.
>>96893586Please, fuck off forever.
Do you use NWP?
>>96893621noworst idea that people actually use, unlike weapon type vs. ac or similar since thief skills
>>96893621Yes, I buy from Northwest Petroleum.
>>96893615Nah, I started this thread so I'm staying. If you don't like 2e you don't have to post here though, that makes much more sense, doesn't it?>>96893621Yes, I really like them actually. There are some that are dumb like riding or swimming proficiency but when it comes to crafts and such they're a great way to add flavor to the character's backstory and bring it into play as well.
>>96893030Thank you for making a separate thread. Good luck with your new general, and may you suffer minimally from the scourge of fishfag.
>>96893708Thanks! He's here as you can see but I think he'll get tired of it pretty soon.
Why the losers on the /osr/ general expelled you from there?
>>968930302nd edition is just 1st edition but more refined. If the OSR cucks can't see that then they deserve nothing but games with 5 edition slop with their gay beholders and stupid wheelchairs.
>>96893940That's an oversimplification. /osrg/ uses, by general agreement, the older (pre-Reddit really) definition of OSR where 2e isn't included. You can read about all that on the OSR Simulacrum blog if you want:>https://osrsimulacrum.blogspot.com/2021/02/a-historical-look-at-osr-part-i.htmlThat said, this thread shouldn't be used for debating /osrg/! It's been created to discuss 2e, which has quite sufficiently plentiful content that it doesn't need boosting with a bunch of board drama.
>>96893030Remember the crpg Planscape Torment? Are there any other 2e settings that got made into a crpg?
>>96893030>Since /osrg/ has collectively decided 2e doesn't belong in their thread which is fair enough,No, it's not. They're calling it osrg in contravention of the general understanding of what osr means. If they want a 1974 - 1983 only thread, which means excluding>Unearthed Arcana>Dragonlance>most material for what came to be called Mystara>Oriental Adventures>Lankhmar>Forgotten Realmsand such things as, get this,>The Temple of Elemental Evila prototypical osr-like dungeon crawl which came out in 1985then they can go start a better named thread. Someone reminded them in that thread that C&C is osr and someone mentioned Hackmaster too.Them trying to co-opt the osr name is wrong. /osr10g/ for osr first 10 years general is right there if they want it and on the face of it it's a better name even if "they" decide they want to shoehorn in stuff after 1983 while excluding other things after 1983 and I don't mean just retroclones.>>96893540>Everyone there except one extremely angry guy agrees 2e isn't OSRThat's not true. There are at least 2 people who disagree. There might be one extremely angry guy, there's me too. I'm not extremely angry and I posted once in the misnamed osrg thread currently up.I'd say it's at least three people who care to post about 2e there. While I don't know they're not the same person there are at least two sets of posts that really don't seem like the same person, and there's me.Then there are all the people who just don't care to get involved in the argument even in a calm way. While they haven't disagreed they haven't agreed and you can't know any more than I if they agree or disagree.
>>96893030Why does this need a general? Nobody plays this garbage.
>>96894565>I'd say it's at least three people who care to post about 2e there. There's far more than that. OP is just a troll that loves to gaslight on all levels, including trying to diminish how many people disagree with him as much as possible while boldly bullshitting how everyone else agrees with him.He knows he's lying and lying hard, he just hopes that people make the mistake of assuming that the truth exists somewhere between what they see and the impossible lie he's telling.
>>96893586No you fucking don't. This was the edition that led to WOTC's acquisition of D&D and nearly killed the hobby as a whole. This is a disingenuous shill thread to try and kill actual games discussion.
>>96894564Forgotten Realms got the two big ones Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. Dark Sun has at least one. I think Al-Qadim has a game but I am not sure what kind of game it is. And Spelljammer has a game of some kind. Birthright has one but I think it is RTS,
>>96894660>>96894565Samefag, nobody really cares about it. It holds nostalgia for a few manchildren who won't grow up. We don't need another shill general that will trickle down to 1 post a week clogging up the thread like /nsrg/ already does.
>>96894652Just because you don't play anything other than dicks does not mean everyone else does too.
>>96894697Your shilling won't work and this garbage thread will die 2efag. Stick to your tried and true tactics like trying to hijack generals fucken pussy LMAO
>>96894714Sorry to hear that you still have retardation and butthurt about 2e being OSR.
>>96893030>Favourite 2nd ed tie in novelI've been wanting to get into the Dark Suns novels for a while, my understanding is there's at least 2 arcs. >mul slave rebellion main arc >desert drizit with a green tiger arc which one has the least halflings in it?
>>96893621Psionics mentioned!
>>96894735It's not OSR, OP admitted it's not OSR, you admitted it's not OSR. Sorry that you got molested as a child.
>>96894660Good points anon.
>>96894756>OP says so therefor it is true.I guess if OP said 3e is OSR then 3e is OSR.2e is OSR and you are a retard
>>96894790Nope, it got banished from OSRG and has its own thread because it's irrelevant. You lose.
>>96894812More like you banished your brain to your ass. Your retarded posts are irrelevant as at the end of the day 2e will be talked about in /OSRG/ and there not anything you can do about it.
Also Tom Baxa's art for Dark Sun is great stuff.>>96894744If we make a bingo sheet now it would be too easy to get fish. Although it could just be the free middle square I suppose.
>>96894826Heh, no. It won't be. This thread is going to die and every time I see you post I'm going to point out that your stupid little shill thread fell off the board from sheer disinterest. This is my last post ITT, goodbye nogames loser.
>>96894851OP, you haven't fooled anyone.
>>96894851Yeah, everyone can tell you love to gargle penises while you get assblashed when 2e comes up in OSR thread no matter what retarded things you say in your posts.
>>96894742I found the Prism Pentad really boring, had to force myself to read them. I struggled through Denning's Planescape novel too, come to think of it I don't know if I finished it, his writing just isn't worth my time. Not saying you shouldn't read his stuff, just letting you know that if I don't even remembering finishing a novel my memory might have blocked out other details, but I don't think there are many halflings in the Prism Pentad. In the first book they have to get the macguffin from the halflings so they go to the halfling village for a bit. Then I think the halfling chief makes a few appearances in the next two books as minor character. Then I think halflings are forgotten except as ancient background for the planet.I don't recall the Sorak books but he is half halfling so if you want to avoid halflings, not a good choice. Plus he is like you say Drizzt, only even more powerful.
>96894565>That's not true. There are at least 2 people who disagree. >I'd say it's at least three people who care to post about 2e there.>Then there are all the people who just don't care to get involvedThere's also me, interested mostly in the TSR Setting books people in /osrg/ hate, so I only show up in the odd setting thread (and I tend to use that setting content with 3e, most content got converted, but I would *play* a 2e campaign if the GM was using good setting books). Personally I'm all for an occasional separate thread without the "that's not OSR" screeching. I like a sandbox, but one full of Factions and Churches and Guilds and Knightly Orders and fleshed out NPCs and Towns and NPC Cultures, not just Ye olde wilderness frontier village and a dungeon: beer and pretzels-go.> If they want a 1974 - 1983 only thread, which means excludingI think the attitude there is less about years, it's about excluding any grand adventure playstyle content in favor of just dungeon and hex crawling content. They don't all seem to hate Unearthed Arcana or the Wilderness Survival guide - because it doesn't diverge as heavily from the playstyle of that first decade.> /osr10g/ for osr first 10 years general/osrf10g/ or /osr10g/ would certainly be less ambiguous.>96894660>There's far more than that. OP is just a trollAny time anyone brings up 2e stuff in OSRG a bunch of screeching autists have a fucking meltdown. Even if there are more than a couple people there who like 2e, you can't talk about it there without people flipping their shit. I have skipped the thread the past couple years because I'm just not that into B/X.>96894652Clearly someone is interested enough to make a thread.>96894663Your jimmies are seriously ruffled at the idea someone likes the books you don't.>96894686Eye of the Beholder and Dungeon Hack count?>>96893030>Favourite 2nd ed tie in novelI liked the Netheril Trilogy.WTF is this 'multiquote bad' BS. I don't want to make 6 posts.
>>96894985>WTF is this 'multiquote bad' BS.Presumably it's to stop people from making spam replies where they tag everyone without saying anything of value. How thT'S CATCHING YOU WITH ALL THE SHIT YOU'RE SAYING IS ANYONE'S GUESS.
>>96895017>[Waaaaa actual discussion with the people in a thread when you join it is spam!]You know /tg/ is a 'discussion' board, right?>tag everyoneI went to tag just people I was replying to. You would really prefer some guy who samefags to tag 6 people in separate messages? Because that is the alternative you would get from people who *discuss* things in the discussion board.*Back in my day* people actually *talked* about things on /tg/. Fucking /pol/ squatter zoomer wasteland bullshit.
>>96894895>he is half halfling Wait wut.
>>96894895>>96895119Is that a quarterling or a threequartersling?
>>96895210Maybe its recessive so the kid is a 2/3rdsling.
>>96895119It's right there in my post anon, exactly like it sounds. One day a mummy elf and a daddy halfling were feeling very loving and gave each other a special hug...Or maybe it was a mummy halfling and a daddy elfOr maybe one of them got drunkOr maybe one was just hornyOr maybe one was sexually assaultedThe potential rape is brought up in every book. The truth is revealed at the end of the last book and it's worse than you're thinking.>>96895210The author uses the word elfling.I also forgot to mention that he suffers from multiple personality disorder including at least three female personalities as well as several male.
>>96895461>and its worse than you're thinking That is pretty bad then. Might just skip the Darksuns novels then.
>>96894686>I think Al-Qadim has a game but I am not sure what kind of game it is.It's called The Genie's Curse and is a kind of action-adventure game. Some people loved it when it came out, others thought it was too little of everything and thus a crap game.
>>96895521Probably for the best, but aside from him going for the feels with a way over the top gary stu, Hawkins is less bad as a writer compared to Denning and three novels are shorter than five so I'd call his the lesser of two evils. Although the character is half halfling I had a sit down to think about it and I don't think there are that many hallfing bits in it. His stuff also wasn't written as part of the metaplot which I think was a faux pas.The whole box set was>here's a sorceror king of the starting city, he's trying to become a dragon>here's a unique dragon, the only one on all of athas, you can't win against himBut then all the releases were>we're off to kill the wizard king, the terrible tyrant of Tyrfollowed by>we did it>we're the king now dawgor>look at us, we're the ruling political entity nowwhich went straight into>we're off to kill the dragon, the deadly dragon of dark sunwhich undid box set setting and that's basically the novels. Like Dragonlance, only bad.If you haven't read them, the three Dragons and the three Twins Dragonlance novels are worth reading.
>>96894985>a bunch of screeching autists have a fucking meltdownThat's not really true, in fairness. They're usually pretty polite about it and they'd probably be nicer if they weren't constantly being provoked by that one goblin.>>96895068>I went to tag just people I was replying to. You would really prefer some guy who samefags to tag 6 people in separate messages?I think you misunderstood Anon there, he was just trying to explain how the filter works and why it exists (and fatfingered Caps Lock), not criticize your posting habits. If anything he seems to be confused about why your post tripped the filter since it has actual content in the replies.
>>96895461This honestly does not sound like the synopsis of a good book series. Lmao
>>96895612>Like Dragonlance, only bad.So, exactly like Dragonlance then?
>>96895573Have you played it? And if so what do you think?
>>96895746I played it when I was like 9 because my dad had it and thought it would be a safe kid game, I thought it was great then but it's not exactly a judgment I would take poison on being correct for an adult, kek
>>96895612FWIW I think 4e's Dark Sun supplements put the setting in a good place.

>>96894652>Why do traditional games need a board? Nobody plays this garbage.ftfy
>>96893030>/2eg/ – Second Edition AD&Dproblems and solutions in this edition;Psionics were very bad, solution; convert and adapt the 3.5 psionics to 2e, keeping only the psionicist "psion" class, make all psionics be like magic and magic resistance covers it as well. Prevents chaos and overall mess and confusion. NWP were a generic and poor system, a new one is needed between the 3.5 skills system (just the skills list so it will all be 2e in the end but functional) and the nwp system with the roll under your ability score (2e style) as the judge of success or failure. The thief sucks in combat, but the later editions thieves aka rogues are just flank-attack automatons, so the solution is to give the ranger the trapfinding and dealing with capacity and almost all other thieving abilities in the level of the thief and dump the class altogether or keep it for hirelings or for multi-class characters. bard sucks too, he should have the fate of the thief above, with some adjustments. these are from the top of my head, there are a few othersmany solutions (animal companions and some powers etc) are in effect solved in the 2e computer games and these can be just take to the tabletop and solve the mechanics issues there. great things in this edition;multi-class option was great, especially in dark sun. Dual class was sensible for humans as well. Ranger was a hero and not some random wilderness dude. and many other things
>>96896833play Eye of the Beholder series (1990-1993)Spelljammer: Pirates of Realmspace (1992) this sucks but for curiosity should be delved a bitDungeon Hack (1993) some randomizer dungeon gameDark Sun games (1993-1994)Ravenloft titles (1994-1995)Menzoberranzan (1994) venture in the underdarkAl-Qadim: The Genie's Curse (1994) sadly this had only 1 character, but was fun otherwiseDeathkeep (1995)Blood & Magic (1996) rtsDescent to Undermountain (1998)Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale (1998-2001)Planescape: Torment (1999) amazing despite railroading non-stop and not really being planescape as ti presented a very specific setting and not an all-diverse mix of worlds (despite claiming it did). So it was a very dark sun structured thing.
>>96893030>2e doesn't belongdespite all the Dogmatic Psychopathy of a minority of OSR players the 2e of the game is so close to 1e and to previous editions than to later ones that they all make part of a whole. But 2e is more fun.
>>96895681No, because the Dragonlance campaign setting book didn't say>Here's the setting>Looks like a war is happening>It's all different now, lol, so randomInstead information about the DL setting was developed with the modules and fiction and the setting book came out much later. And more importantly, the early DL novels were competently written and are definitely worth reading. You shouldn't bother though for obvious reasons.
>>96894663>This was the edition that led to WOTC's acquisition of D&D and nearly killed the hobby as a whole.the edition is not a human or an entity. The game was ran by amateurs, or people that did no know what they were doing despite supposedly being professionals from the start and up to and including 2e. This did not change when 3e, 4e, 5e came. The game was always ruled mostly by people that sucked in what they did in varying degrees. But some fun and good things existed, especially in 2e which is the peak of creativity and then we got too many mechanics (3e, too burdensome yet fun up to a point) and overall retardation up to today.
>>96897104>Dragonlance campaign settingit was an incomplete setting that read like a draft that was years away from any completion. The Pantheon sucked and was utterly undeveloped as well as most of the setting.
>>96894663>killed the hobby as a wholethat was the fault of gygax himself as he did not know what he fuck was doing. He was a gamer, not a business man (his financial management skill was bad, overexpanded and over-hired and overdiversified and his colleagues, Brian and Kevin, messed up as well) and he had to be both and good at both, and in other things, in order to make things work and evolve with stability. This allowed Lorraine Williams to fuck him over.2e was and is more fun than all previous editions (and definitely more than 4e,5e and to a degree 3.5 depending on how much a player likes complex or simple mechanics) to and the only later edition that has some useful things is 3.5 because of all the complex mechanics that exist in it. Its like like a warehouse of devices.
>>96893030>kitsa review of all 2e kits is needed to ensure some playability for the useless or weak ones and to keep overly powerful ones from ruining the game.
>>96897115Sorry that you feel that way. Not because you're objectively wrong in your hyperbole which is pretty sad for you but because it was a setting in which were told some good stories by the fiction authors, the module authors, and the players, though I only know a tiny fraction about the stories of that last group it was very much personal to your group or maybe if you had a friend in a different rpg group who played to.
>>96897164>e told some good stories by the fiction authors, the module authors,it had good stuff in it, but when viewed in its totality it is utterly incomplete. Its missing huge chunks of things. They should have sat on it for 2-3 years, working on it 24/7 and given us a complete dragonlance and not a rushed product that was not even remotely finished. example; its underdark or underground world in general is utterly underdeveloped (and there are errors all the place in some books and monster entries). It had ideas that stayed in vague infancy. Yaggols (moronic mind flayers), various dwarf clans below with some unique elements and other things that were left as such. And the deities were at 1% of what they should have been. They need "100 pages" and got 1, this is what i mean.
>>96897164it needed these buit for Dragonlancehttps://www.tsrarchive.com/fr/fr-deity.htmlFaiths & AvatarsPowers & PantheonsDemihuman Deities& for its underground world, equivalent parallels to Night Below: An Underdark CampaignThe Drow of the Underdark (FOR2) for whatever monster its drow would have been (not referring to the small dark elf group in dragonlance form another setting)Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the UnderdarkIt of course did not have to be six books, 2 would be more than enough or a pages with substance explaining things.
>>96893030Did anyone play City of Skulls, Greyhawk adventure, and finish it with success? Had a party that failed early by gathering notoriety points, and all were slain by one of the squads. Had a party that died by legion of black death orcs in some room. Another succeeded but all party members died except one.
>>96893030We had played Temple of Elemental Evil (2e) with a huge party of 9 people (absolute chaos usually) plus 1 as the DM is a rather small room every sunday. Started from level 1. Party composition was;1.Paladin2.Dwarf Fighter3.Human thief then Ranger dual class4.Elf mage5. Dwarf Fighter/Cleric6.Elf Fighter/Mage 7.Half Elf Druid8.Human Fighter9.Human mage1. died from some fire spell2. died from drinking acid by mistake, hoping it was a healing potion3. died from a trap that killed him outright from full hp to -10, cannot recall which trap4. died from a giant spider5. died from a giant frog6. died from green slime7. died from a troll8. died from a magical trap, cannot recall which trap9. died from a magical trap, cannot recall which trapsome were raised via rod or scroll, some not and in the end after a year we were 3 players (paladin, human fighter, human mage) that made it to the final battle. All died, all henchmen and summons as well, except the Paladin.
>>96897182>there are errors all the placeSadly true for too much TSR not just DL.I hear what you're saying now that you're saying underdeveloped rather than undeveloped. I don't think we needed 100 pages of stuff about the gods, not even if that was 100 pages for them altogether. Thinking about GH and FR, I'd say we got about as much for them as for DL in the various box sets and hard cover books. It had about two years of development, about the same as other settings. We got a level of artwork unmatched until DS, and novels and short stories galore. As bad as a lot of them are and as hard as it is to extract details from a novel compared to a source book, they did develop the world.I don't care that the underdark was underdeveloped, even though, maybe because, shadow people are yazirians. I wasn't interested in that part of the world. I liked the knights, the hill/mountain dwarf enmity, the baked in in your face good vs evil theme. I didn't need more detail for the various dwarf clans, the evil dwarves being evil was enough. I am yet to develop the need to subvert tropes that some modern settings go in for.I admire your passion. I was content with what we got, after I got over the change in tone from the first to second trilogy. It's cool to see someone putting so much thought into how it could have been better.>>96897237Having just written pantheon details seemed comparable between TSR settings in core boxes or books, I have to say "aargh, splat books" and worse "aargh, splat books from a dying TSR". Those god books came out ten years after the FR box set. The earliest book on your list is a module four years later, a generic module that can go in any setting even if FR or GH would be easiest. Guide to the Underdark was one of TSR's last publications, already owned by WOTC. If you're going to point fingers at DL being underdeveloped play fair and point those same fingers at FR for the ten or more years it took most of those books to come out.
>>96897313>no tpk until the end>actually not a tpk, one guy survivedSounds like things went a lot better than usual. Well done.Except for number 2. Tricked into drinking understandable but hoping? Poor fellow.
>>96897358>Those god books came out ten years after the FR box set.yes, but the description of the deities in the DL books in very uninspiring and FR did get the books later. Kiri Jolith for example is some bison deity...many things do not fit and have to do with the religion (mormons i think) of the writers and most of the rest seem like a very poor almost forced addition of deities. With little actual personality. The gods "vanished" and then "returned" and then what about the clergy organizations and the rest of the stuff. Just dust in the wind. They need work in the setting, to harmonize and let things settle (like a cake must settle, or however that works) and then publish it. The novels were fun at the start, and i liked the idea of the setting. We played for more than 10 years in dragonlance and it was great fun (first mystara, then ravenloft, dark sun, forgotten realms, greyhawk, planescape but not spelljammer or birthright) but more like a pizza with 40% of it done and the rest just dough or an empty pan.
>>96897391>number 2. Tricked into drinking understandable but hoping? Poor fellow.we were in another desperate situation where most of the party was dying at under 0, unconscious or incapacitated by various monster or villain powers and magic and had retreated (tactically after a prolonged fight that lasted hours in real life) to a large room with door we could barricade even briefly or make a thermopyles last stand. Everyone was down except for the dwarf fighter (2) paladin (rolled great dice in fights and had only str 17 while all the other warriors had 18+%) and the Human thief-ranger. Having no spellcaster standing the paladin and ranger held the entrance but the dwarf was at under 10 hp, so he went through all the backpacks and sacks with items the other members had gathered but had not identified yet and found several potions. Drank the first (dm rolled dice, or was it by color i do not recall) and it was the acid (max damage and died). It was a slaughterhouse of gore and splatter, broken swords and axes and spear poles, shattered shields and torn flesh from monster limbs all over the place. Blood and guts everywhere and everyone screaming in pain or moaning as they lay down dying or in some dream in a delirium-drenched unconsciousness. In the end we won, via rolling so many consecutive natural 20s it was like robbing the casino.
>>96897391in an adventure in faerun this time, we played ToEE in oerth and did not adapt it for another setting, i was a bard (wanted to become another class later as i saw this was pretty generic, though funny to play) and all the party (dwarf fighter, human cleric of Sune [yes the love deity], elf mage, human paladin) was petrified in a room that had several medusae/gorgon bitches (someone with a good memory may remember which adventure this was) and the last man standing. I was behind a pillar with a towel over my eyes (a precaution) and the room was partially filled with some fog from some item of the mage from before he turned to stone (he did not make it in time) and another part was darkened by a spell that still lingered. Tried to run out, planned to do something by luring some monster we spied upon in another room, but one got me with an arrow and then another and i died, that was the total party kill. It was very suspenseful from the start and ended like a movie but with loss. https://www.completecompendium.com/appendix/medusa/Medusae may carry a knife, dagger, or short bow.

>>96898720nta, but you have to admit;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1Vlr03i-18Raistlin and the Rose is a banging track.

>>96899960I think you're badly confused about who you're talking to. Maybe not a completely incomprehensible error on an anonymous imageboard, but on balance you're still losing your shit at the wrong person in an undignified and ineffectual way.
>>96897860>they are half-elves in typologySource please. As a general rule, being half-anything is a matter of perspective. Elf + human = half-elf is the human-centric point of view that most other races copy due to human hegemony but for elves they are half-human.Mul gets around that by using an obvious shortening of mule, which coincidentally was spelled mul in Middle English though I don't expect the TSR guys knew that, or mulatto which is of course an important word in slavery and that I do expect the TSR guys knew. For elfling both parents are non-human and there is no general reason in D&D to prefer the elf heritage over the halfling their crossbreed. For elves they are half-halfling, and for halflings they are half-elf. As is made clear in the novels and Dark Sun material, elves and halflings despise each other and the novel's protagonist being a elfing is a unique event. From an exegetic viewpoint we know that halflings were the original inhabitants of Athas but that's a very thin reason to generally prefer the half-elf heritage here.>Age as half-elfYou do remember that elves only live to 140 in dark sun don't you? And halflings also live to 140? And that Athasian half-elves live to about 100?There's no universal law that says crossbreeds have to live and age as parents but D&D has the trend that hybrid lifespan is intermediate to the parent races. E.g.,Athasian and generic half-elves, muls, half-orcs. Why would your source wilfully change that pattern and have elfling live less and age worse than both parents?>those ability score adjustmentsYou do realise that half-elves get +1 dex because elves get +2 and humans get 0 and the mean is +1. There's no int adjustment for half-elf because the mean of 1 and 0 is 0.5 rounded towards 0. Elflings should not get +2 wis but rather (2 + -1) / 2 = 0.5 rounded to 0. Averaging +2 dex and +2 dex to give +1 dex is bad.Overall they should get -1 str, +2 dex, -1 conLike I said before, source please.
>>96898720>They are only good if you haven't read anything else. That's just so stupid a thing to write because I have a sizeable number of other books and yet the early DL novels are good.
>>96902922*have read abut your comment is still more wrong than my typing.
>>96902922You're right, I'm sorry. The Dragonlance books are only good if you haven't read anything else, OR if you have horrible fucking taste.
>>96902906there is no official source other than combining things from the first dark sun boxed set, its a hasty suggestion of how they could be.
>>96903480you have no interest in fantasy games and hate dragonlance just because you think its narrative elements contributed to the "demise" of D&D. You hate fantasy and want to play a dry and flat mechanics game similar to snakes and ladders and monopoly, but with a veneer of fantastical elements. Keep your psychopathy for yourself and your therapist.
>>96902906>-1 str, +2 dex, -1 conyou can make them however you want
>>96902906they could also get some special ability like muls have, something clearly present in the novel or even implied.
>>96902906>but for elves they are half-human.Wouldn't they call them half-elves to signify that they aren't full elves, thus not a full-fledged member of elf society?
>>96903731No, I dislike Dragonlance because it is derivative and where it isn't derivative it's fucking stupid.>All the wizards go train at hogwarts tower and then decide if they want to be good, evil, or indifferent. And then they wear team jerseys for the rest of their lives and they never take them off because those are the rules. That's fucking retarded. And that's just the flavor. The actual modules are dogshit railroads. It's a bad setting with a bunch of bad game books and a slew of horrible novels.
>>96896738>(and a bad fighting game)I remember playing that one and beating it by spamming a shove attack and exploiting that hitting the arena limit damaged the opponent.
