thread question
TQ
The Nebraska shitposts actually got me wondering, what areas were really big for magic back before the enshittification era? I'm from an area where a few stores tried to exist at once, but all but one died in like 2017.
Thread reminder that UB slop biggest shitstorm is coming.
>>96895043that art looks odd even for just marvel stuff
If I hand over control to something destined to be sacrificed soon like a Saheeli token to another player, when do they sac it? Thinking of this play
>>96894933>tq
>>96895043>bigger disaster than spiderman doubtful
>>96894933>TQ
>>96895019lmao It is funny that wotc not only racebends him but also make him extremely weak>>96895043I would have no problem with this shit being a Secret Lair or commander slop set.To think people who want to play standard will have to play against Marvel Flop shit.
>>96895136At the beginning of the next end step. The delayed triggered ability doesn't lose track of the token when its controller changes.
>>96895043It'll be pretty good and sell pretty well. Spider-Man's faults are largely more addressed by a broader scope thing like Super Heroes (much greater variety, less focus on specifically just New York (it's present but only really Spider-Man is so tied specifically to it it feels), actually being designed as the size it is, etc.)
Ugin is pumping Bolas full of white mana again...
>>96895022Last I lived there, Akron had a good ecosystem.>Derium's in Cuyahoga Falls part>Two more shops in city>Half-hour away from Alter Reality GamingDon't know how it is now.
>>96895411Counterpoint: Spider-Man lacks most of the Marvel slop fatigue that is losing Disney billions of dollars. People generally like Spider-Man, even if they're not comic book fans- he's one of the only superheroes that can carry movies all on their own, without their greater comic structure around them (the other example being Batman). That's part of the reason why deepcut movies like Spiderverse or Lego Batman can be moderately successful, because people care.Marvel as a whole, however, is far from that level of good opinion. Pretty much all of their movies after Endgame have been culturally irrelevant- can you name me a show or movie since then that's actually effected the cultural zeitgeist in a positive way?Make a Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, or Chainsaw Man Magic set, and you'd have millions of zoomers and alphas filling game stores and buying product, especially if the art is appealing. I'm not even a fan of the first two- I'm literally just going off of what's most popular in the west (that doesn't already have it's own current card game, mind you)
I like the smug shitpost energy of this one.
>>96895488>Chainsaw Man Magic set,Too edgy for Magic.
>>96895505>WotC Upper Management Being Encouraged to Design Universes Beyond, 2025, Colorized
>>96895509Eh, they did Duskmourne, they can do Chainsaw Man. I barely know a thing about Chainsaw Man past the like fourth episode (and memes) and bashed out something quickly.
>>96895656too fucking cheap for that effect
>>96895665dude, it's a six mana card that does nothing until you untap, and immediately demands to be killed. How much do you think it should cast?
>>96895656I also made a Makima card though I don't care to make up new cards just proxy existing ones for commander
>>96895665Is it? Casting from an opponent's hand is basically a thoughtseize + cantrip. You're limited by the amount of mana you have, and your opponent's cards probably synergize better with their deck than yours. Something like Bolas is 5 mana for an immediate 2 for 1, then a +2 card advantage with no mana cost every uptick after that plus a wincon if you can ult. A creature that dies to bolt isn't exactly that hard to get rid of.
>>96895762Opponents discard a card of their choosing, or sacrificing a meaningless token, once per turn is not the same as "You can Thoughtseize literally every card in their hand at any time."
>>96895814You'd still have to cast the cards, and you're still limited by timing restrictions (so other than instants and flash, only during your own turn). By the nature of the high cost (six mana) you'd have to wait until you untap to actually cast anything meaningful, which gives them plenty of time to use the removal you've found in their hand to kill her. It's commander slop designed for fun tables rather than actually being any good.
>>96895844Commander slop has Reanimate legal and suddenly the ward 1 is backbreaking ensuring you untap with it. Because of priority you're also the person with the first opportunity to cast a spell when it resolves, meaning you can waste removal before anyone gets a chance to use theirs.
>>96895856>ward 1 is backbreakinglollmao
>>96895862It's backbreaking on turn 2 you retard.
>>96895814Sure, but that's mostly because there isn't really a similar existing card. Here's a 4 mana monoblack uncommon that lets you spend mana to sac a token or recurring creature to thoughtseize every turn. I think if you wanted to nerf the card you could limit the effect to only your turn to prevent shenanigans, I don't think the cost is too crazy.
>>96895509>Too edgy for Magic.Huh? You mean...Grimgrin isn't edgy? But he's the edgiest around!
>>96895863If only they didn't literally print this card then
>>96895868>Players will be running Cut Down in clown format of pointlessly overstatted creatures

>>96895866Maro said spooky things are too icky for the modern audience ... even more icky than UBs.
>>96895656duskmourne is lame shit, Phyrexian shenanigans and I'd argue Eldritch Moon is edgier too.
>>96896007Maro is a moron. Spooky stuff is the best.
>>96895656>Eh, they did Duskmourne, lmao oh really they did a cartoon fun house with zero stakes where every character has plot armor and nobody dies?Very edgy.
>>96894933>TQFarewell has been my favorite modal spell in the longest time. The card name already has an instant reputation to cause massive seething anytime you utter its name.
>>96895656>>96896033Reminder there is no E is Duskmourn. I don't know why people keep doing that.
>>96896194It's a Mandigo effect in action
>>96894933TQ
>>96896194>>96896196It's more so the fact that compound words in pop fantasy that end in the 'orn' sound usually do so with 'borne' (Bloodborne, Nightborne) and so we unconsciously put the extra E in.
Say something, ANYTHING nice about this card.
>>96896299The way the goatee blends into the base of the card is kinda neat.
wdym? people don't care about the art on the cards. they would happily play with blanked out art and names as just a string of numbers to tell them apart. it will sell and line go up regardless

>>96894933Would people play this?I also kinda think lilianas expression is funny.
>>96896592You can't expect not getting spoiled these days. This is the main reason why video games are so popular on release, unless you abstain from ALL social medias you will immediately get spoiled one way or another.
>>96896598>You can't expect not getting spoiled these days. they should have stuck with kamigawa flip cards instead of going with double faced
>>96896299FAIR and BALANCED imperial tutor (why didn't they print that one instead? Avatar looks like Chinese/Asian shit which would fit more with IT)

>>96896299Thank you for the cheapest cruel tutor.
>>96894933>TQProbably my favorite charm of all time. If Dromoka's Command wasn't so watered down by being 2 mana, I would've gone with that instead.
>>96895509>Too edgy for Magic.bro, spider-man canonically sold his unborn daughter and marriage to fucking satan just to buy a few more years of life for his octogenarian aunt. every single CSM character would go "man that's fucked up you shouldn't have done that..." upon learning about that, marvel capeshit unironically has way more edge in it than anything in CSM it's just most normalfags aren't aware of it (thankfully, holy fuck joe quesada is a piece of shit)
>>96897226drama isn't edge
>>96897245marvel frequently has both in spades. there's also way more rape in marvel capeshit than CSM, including joe quesada deciding to turn X-23 into a child sex trafficking victim whored out by a pimp in new york city instead of using the character's actual origins from X-Men Evolution which she was created for....>hey remember that time deadpool's girlfriend and mother of his kid got kidnapped by north korea, tortured, and experimented on before kim jong un dumped her body in a mass grave for the Avengers to find? god comics are dumb
>>96897268zoomers read csm and act like it's fucking Wolf Guy, it's an action comedy and not even as edgy as fujimoto's previous shit, even the violence is surreal and borderline slapstick most of the time.
>>96897020>tappedFucking cowards. Instant speed reanimation (especially at 5 MV) isn't nearly as strong as WotC seems to think it is.
>>96897291I mean if you're casting this at instant speed on your opponent's turn its gonna untap on your next turn anyways. I guess you can't use it as a blocker but thats a minor downside
>>96896358The picture quality's better than half the 360p-looking screenshots we've seen so far.
>>96897226H-H-HOLY SHIT, an unborn kid we never met goes back to not existing and Spooderman talks to LE SCARY DEVIL oh no so scary
How many flash targets should I run in a vintage/powered cube? 2? Is 4 too many?
>>96895656I think Makima could easily also have green, since she's a natural aspect of the world and just acting upon her nature. I'd even hear an argument for red since her whole reason of being is due to her interest in Chainsawman.
back to your custom card containment general
>>96895043When I see this artwork, my first impression is "This is for little kids, like literal kinder-gardeners". I cannot stand western super-heros. I hate them. I hope this set gets the "Omenpath" treatment.
>>96897371aborting your child to placate satan is pretty fucked up yeah
>>96897434This.Who the fuck says "super heroes?"
>>96897452You're honestly a bitch, dude.
>>96897434Thankfully, it’s confirmed that the marvel cards will be Omenpathed on Arena, so that’s good. Avatar isn’t, but it’s a fantasy setting so it won’t be too jarring, though TMNT I think is going as is anyways unfortunately.
>>96894933Last night i held a draft of the OG theros block just to remember what magic was like when I started playing. Holy fuck what a fucking difference in power level. Half the people I drafted with struggled to pick because they weren't used to the way creatures were statted even 10 years ago. It's fucking crazy to look at the shittiest removal from that set and realize that in it's respective draft environment, it was a solid B card for the right deck. You could really feel the difference in draft strategy too. People these days just try to build around a specific sets archetypes without worrying about a larger overarching game plan, and I think a lot of people mistakenly believe that BREAD really is a useless tool, as youtubers will never fail to remind you.Anyway I did, of course, go with WUB and coast to an easy victory. It's interesting to watch players with more in game hours than me and current meta knowledge flounder in an older set with more simple archetypes and more unforgiving draft choices. You can't just get away with drafting a value pile in yoir colors, you actually have to carefully pick shit to fit specific CMC slots, and take cards that fucking suck 90% of the time just to not have a dead hand.
>>96897291
>>96897531Oh, I did also happen to end up with one of these bad boys which somehow never failed to make its way into my hand by turn 4 or 5
>>96897020That is so dogshit. I hate how wotc oushes the power and ability bloat of every freature while simultaneously smchopping every sorcery and instant off at the knees. That's just ridiculously unplayable at 5 cmc. Maybe if it was 4 mana it would be passable.

>>96897696Sorry anon, Mark Rosewater has hired the Pinkertons to break into your house and forcibly place overpowered UB cards into your cube
>>96897710yeah and it should fucking stay dead here too
Anyone else feel like they want a neutered form of storm to be legal in standard (i.e., storm without storm)? For some reason they keep printing red cards that make mana just by casting spells and they don't seem to understand that getting free resources by just playing the game normally is not a good idea when none of the other colors can do that, or at least not after they banned Up the Beanstalk.
>>96897784wotc doesn't consider beans to be free value because you spent 2 mana to cast it
did anything come of WOTC’s influencer witch hunt? I wasn’t around for a while

>>96897531I had all these feelings while drafting pioneer masters in arena earlier this year. People just tried to build around underpowered jank instead of drafting a solid bread deck. Turns out nessian asp and district guide are just good solid creatures.
>>96897926Its just a reminder to me of yet another thing wotc has changed for the worse about the game. Recent draft environments simply do not have the same feeling. I feel more like I'm playing high-power block constructed with something like FIN. Archetypes are very railroaded, and very specific to certain deck types. It's almost like playing against a bunch of mini commander decks. Core draft strategy from a decade ago is no longer functional because someone can get away with just drafting two colors without a thought and build massive value engines and powerful aggressive decks that threaten wins on fucking turn 4. It teaches new drafters to basically net-deck to learn the sets archetypes ahead of time, rather than to learn good, solid, universal deckbuilding skill.
>>96897734did they make an agni kai card or no
