thread question
TQ
The Nebraska shitposts actually got me wondering, what areas were really big for magic back before the enshittification era? I'm from an area where a few stores tried to exist at once, but all but one died in like 2017.
Thread reminder that UB slop biggest shitstorm is coming.
>>96895043that art looks odd even for just marvel stuff
If I hand over control to something destined to be sacrificed soon like a Saheeli token to another player, when do they sac it? Thinking of this play
>>96894933>tq
>>96895043>bigger disaster than spiderman doubtful
>>96894933>TQ
>>96895019lmao It is funny that wotc not only racebends him but also make him extremely weak>>96895043I would have no problem with this shit being a Secret Lair or commander slop set.To think people who want to play standard will have to play against Marvel Flop shit.
>>96895136At the beginning of the next end step. The delayed triggered ability doesn't lose track of the token when its controller changes.
>>96895043It'll be pretty good and sell pretty well. Spider-Man's faults are largely more addressed by a broader scope thing like Super Heroes (much greater variety, less focus on specifically just New York (it's present but only really Spider-Man is so tied specifically to it it feels), actually being designed as the size it is, etc.)
Ugin is pumping Bolas full of white mana again...
>>96895022Last I lived there, Akron had a good ecosystem.>Derium's in Cuyahoga Falls part>Two more shops in city>Half-hour away from Alter Reality GamingDon't know how it is now.
>>96895411Counterpoint: Spider-Man lacks most of the Marvel slop fatigue that is losing Disney billions of dollars. People generally like Spider-Man, even if they're not comic book fans- he's one of the only superheroes that can carry movies all on their own, without their greater comic structure around them (the other example being Batman). That's part of the reason why deepcut movies like Spiderverse or Lego Batman can be moderately successful, because people care.Marvel as a whole, however, is far from that level of good opinion. Pretty much all of their movies after Endgame have been culturally irrelevant- can you name me a show or movie since then that's actually effected the cultural zeitgeist in a positive way?Make a Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, or Chainsaw Man Magic set, and you'd have millions of zoomers and alphas filling game stores and buying product, especially if the art is appealing. I'm not even a fan of the first two- I'm literally just going off of what's most popular in the west (that doesn't already have it's own current card game, mind you)
I like the smug shitpost energy of this one.
>>96895488>Chainsaw Man Magic set,Too edgy for Magic.
>>96895505>WotC Upper Management Being Encouraged to Design Universes Beyond, 2025, Colorized
>>96895509Eh, they did Duskmourne, they can do Chainsaw Man. I barely know a thing about Chainsaw Man past the like fourth episode (and memes) and bashed out something quickly.
>>96895656too fucking cheap for that effect
>>96895665dude, it's a six mana card that does nothing until you untap, and immediately demands to be killed. How much do you think it should cast?
>>96895656I also made a Makima card though I don't care to make up new cards just proxy existing ones for commander
>>96895665Is it? Casting from an opponent's hand is basically a thoughtseize + cantrip. You're limited by the amount of mana you have, and your opponent's cards probably synergize better with their deck than yours. Something like Bolas is 5 mana for an immediate 2 for 1, then a +2 card advantage with no mana cost every uptick after that plus a wincon if you can ult. A creature that dies to bolt isn't exactly that hard to get rid of.
>>96895762Opponents discard a card of their choosing, or sacrificing a meaningless token, once per turn is not the same as "You can Thoughtseize literally every card in their hand at any time."
>>96895814You'd still have to cast the cards, and you're still limited by timing restrictions (so other than instants and flash, only during your own turn). By the nature of the high cost (six mana) you'd have to wait until you untap to actually cast anything meaningful, which gives them plenty of time to use the removal you've found in their hand to kill her. It's commander slop designed for fun tables rather than actually being any good.
>>96895844Commander slop has Reanimate legal and suddenly the ward 1 is backbreaking ensuring you untap with it. Because of priority you're also the person with the first opportunity to cast a spell when it resolves, meaning you can waste removal before anyone gets a chance to use theirs.
>>96895856>ward 1 is backbreakinglollmao
>>96895862It's backbreaking on turn 2 you retard.
>>96895814Sure, but that's mostly because there isn't really a similar existing card. Here's a 4 mana monoblack uncommon that lets you spend mana to sac a token or recurring creature to thoughtseize every turn. I think if you wanted to nerf the card you could limit the effect to only your turn to prevent shenanigans, I don't think the cost is too crazy.
>>96895509>Too edgy for Magic.Huh? You mean...Grimgrin isn't edgy? But he's the edgiest around!

>>96896299The way the goatee blends into the base of the card is kinda neat.

>>96897226drama isn't edge
>>96897245marvel frequently has both in spades. there's also way more rape in marvel capeshit than CSM, including joe quesada deciding to turn X-23 into a child sex trafficking victim whored out by a pimp in new york city instead of using the character's actual origins from X-Men Evolution which she was created for....>hey remember that time deadpool's girlfriend and mother of his kid got kidnapped by north korea, tortured, and experimented on before kim jong un dumped her body in a mass grave for the Avengers to find? god comics are dumb
>>96897268zoomers read csm and act like it's fucking Wolf Guy, it's an action comedy and not even as edgy as fujimoto's previous shit, even the violence is surreal and borderline slapstick most of the time.

>>96897291I mean if you're casting this at instant speed on your opponent's turn its gonna untap on your next turn anyways. I guess you can't use it as a blocker but thats a minor downside

>>96895656I think Makima could easily also have green, since she's a natural aspect of the world and just acting upon her nature. I'd even hear an argument for red since her whole reason of being is due to her interest in Chainsawman.
back to your custom card containment general
>>96895043When I see this artwork, my first impression is "This is for little kids, like literal kinder-gardeners". I cannot stand western super-heros. I hate them. I hope this set gets the "Omenpath" treatment.

>>96897434This.Who the fuck says "super heroes?"
>>96897452You're honestly a bitch, dude.
>>96897434Thankfully, it’s confirmed that the marvel cards will be Omenpathed on Arena, so that’s good. Avatar isn’t, but it’s a fantasy setting so it won’t be too jarring, though TMNT I think is going as is anyways unfortunately.
>>96894933Last night i held a draft of the OG theros block just to remember what magic was like when I started playing. Holy fuck what a fucking difference in power level. Half the people I drafted with struggled to pick because they weren't used to the way creatures were statted even 10 years ago. It's fucking crazy to look at the shittiest removal from that set and realize that in it's respective draft environment, it was a solid B card for the right deck. You could really feel the difference in draft strategy too. People these days just try to build around a specific sets archetypes without worrying about a larger overarching game plan, and I think a lot of people mistakenly believe that BREAD really is a useless tool, as youtubers will never fail to remind you.Anyway I did, of course, go with WUB and coast to an easy victory. It's interesting to watch players with more in game hours than me and current meta knowledge flounder in an older set with more simple archetypes and more unforgiving draft choices. You can't just get away with drafting a value pile in yoir colors, you actually have to carefully pick shit to fit specific CMC slots, and take cards that fucking suck 90% of the time just to not have a dead hand.
>>96897291
>>96897531Oh, I did also happen to end up with one of these bad boys which somehow never failed to make its way into my hand by turn 4 or 5
>>96897020That is so dogshit. I hate how wotc oushes the power and ability bloat of every freature while simultaneously smchopping every sorcery and instant off at the knees. That's just ridiculously unplayable at 5 cmc. Maybe if it was 4 mana it would be passable.

Anyone else feel like they want a neutered form of storm to be legal in standard (i.e., storm without storm)? For some reason they keep printing red cards that make mana just by casting spells and they don't seem to understand that getting free resources by just playing the game normally is not a good idea when none of the other colors can do that, or at least not after they banned Up the Beanstalk.
>>96897784wotc doesn't consider beans to be free value because you spent 2 mana to cast it

>>96897531I had all these feelings while drafting pioneer masters in arena earlier this year. People just tried to build around underpowered jank instead of drafting a solid bread deck. Turns out nessian asp and district guide are just good solid creatures.
>>96897926Its just a reminder to me of yet another thing wotc has changed for the worse about the game. Recent draft environments simply do not have the same feeling. I feel more like I'm playing high-power block constructed with something like FIN. Archetypes are very railroaded, and very specific to certain deck types. It's almost like playing against a bunch of mini commander decks. Core draft strategy from a decade ago is no longer functional because someone can get away with just drafting two colors without a thought and build massive value engines and powerful aggressive decks that threaten wins on fucking turn 4. It teaches new drafters to basically net-deck to learn the sets archetypes ahead of time, rather than to learn good, solid, universal deckbuilding skill.

All the good guy characters are exaggerated, portrayals (play-Sokka won't shut up about food, play Katara shows off leg and cleavage and won't stop crying and talking about hope, play-Aang is endlessly cheerful and played by a woman, Peter Pan-style, etc) while the Fire Lord and Azula are super cool and powerful and win the day.

>>96898786No, it makes more sense this way, even if the result on the bonus sheet was shitty. Bonus sheet card is Aang reacting to the blasphemous act of the genocide, but Gyatso himself wasn't acting blasphemously by killing all those soldiers.
>>96898825I mean, no, he was, the point is he was a pacifist pushed to break his pacifism and took the soldiers with him. It's still 'blasphemy', even if understandable.

So we got the 'good guy' Mai at least so far. (You can tell because she has the Ally type). Will she help at all against spellslinger decks?
Note that for these lands, you can earthbend them to creatures, chump block, and sacrifice them to draw a card as well as turning back to a regular land.I also wish they hadn't used such specific names for a couple of the cards, since it hurts the potential for them to be reprinted (Like the Spider-Man-> Omenpath cards that were given new art but kept their names). This card, plus the gruul Omashu City are too specific to be reprinted outside UB. The Orzhov Misty Palms Oasis, Dimir Serpent's Pass, Rakdos Boiling Rock Prison, and Azorius North Pole Gate they could probably get away with though.

>>96899201I mean sure, but it's just inefficent game design- think back to the refuge cycle from Zendikar, the allied duals that enter tapped and gain you one life. But then they wanted to keep printing them in new sets as fixing, but they were all specifically named for places on one plane, so they made a new cycle with generic names that they've printed in tarkir, kamigawa, aetherdrift, MotM, etc.

>>96899656They need to stop printing so many legends AND bring back the original rule.>>96899663It's flavorful and punishes relying on pushed legendary creatures, which are both good things.
We need the REAL original Legend rule where they were always restricted in deckbuilding but there were no clone restrictions.>Murders their viability in 60-card>Does nothing in fake format
>>96898799someone got a glowup
>>96899697The only time it punishes using legends any more than the modern rule is when any deck can run it, like how some non-blue aggro decks would have Tolarian Academy in the sideboard just to lock academy decks out when Saga was new. But a deck without white mana (or a way to cheat creatures into play) can't use Lin Sivvi to lock out the opponent's copy. All it does is make the mirror miserable and skew play/draw even harder.
>>96899037How is the rare? Aren't there several common/ uncommon creatures with this exact effect?
>>96899711The clone clause always existed.
>>96899774The iteration I mentioned never made it to print. They mentioned it in interviews as a version they threw out.
>>96898799>>96899005>>96899728Anime gooners are the only thing that can save Magic the Gathering.
>>96899829It really is a lot cleaner. I guess the problem they had was, "How do you prove this without everyone having to show their entire deck before every game?"I wonder, if Ice Age had come out after Antiquities as it was supposedly intended to, and Legends had come out in '95 instead, after they had nailed down the tournament rules (once they were comfortable with saying, "yeah man just trust each other not to run seven bolts ok"), if things would have been different.
>>96899838>Plump anime girl>>She's blueberry flavoredSo close
This is going to be annoying
>>96900012I spar only in the avatar state.
>>96897734This is really good, there's no downside to running it in red decks and it will sometimes tap for 2 mana basically.
I can’t understand how anyone could be interested in this slop.
>>96897734what can copy this effect?
>>96900185Any "if a spell or ability would target a creature it targets all creatures instead"
>>96900181this but every set since onslaught block took mechanics from Yu-Gi-Oh
*breathes in*AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>96897734Sozin's comet at home
>>96900219way late homeslice
>>96900233Won't stop it being bafflingly hilarious
>>96896397If you've been reading the series/cared that much about spoilers, you only have yourself to blame for taking YEARS to catch up. Hell, not even catch up, you find out less than halfway through the current chapter count.
>>96899763I think I'm in love
meh
could an earth bender bend bones?
I fucking wish black burn was playable in this clown game
>>96900342Draw 3 in commander.
>>96900366Waterbenders can bend blood/body moisture, so the potential is there at least
>>96900411nobody asked about the clown fiesta format
>>96900411Actually it's draw 0 because Commander players are allergic to attacking.
>>96896597Am I a nigger or would this be played everywhere? It's a free second wind at the game that draws cards and kills creatures
>>96900473Played a game yesterday where a guy targeted all removal/attacks/fuckery for an entire game on me, resulting in his direct loss to another player, for "attacking me when you didnt have to". I swung for 2 on t3 because he had no critters.
>>96900547It can be both
>>96900547>cmc 5you died 3 turns ago lil bro
Would the epic cycle of cards be broken if they didn't prevent you from casting spells for the rest of the game? https://mtg.wiki/page/Epic
>>96900617Then it wouldn't be Epic, would it?
>>96900635To be specific, what if you still copied the spell at your upkeep for the rest of the game, but you could still cast other spells in addition.
>>96900617Would looting effects be broken if you didn't have to discard?
>>96900617That would put them in the same range as many PW ultimates, without the hassle, that said, the powercreep has gotten so absurd you probably could andit wouldn't matter
Having no interest in Avatar and Spiderman has made me realize that this game has made me surprisingly good at budgeting. I had adapted to setting aside so much money for cardboard that my core cost of living got pretty low and now that I’m not buying cards life is good.
>>96900749Typically life gets better when kikes are denied shekels
>>96900656>Discarding is seen as a downside.Since when?
>>96900981if only lifelink had been keyworded at the time...
Hey bros, I found Gavin's favorite book!
>>96898162That effect has been around for a long time
>>96901049P.E.P.E. "Shadilay" tier meme magic wtf.
>>96898775I thought rampant growth was too powerful for standard
>>96898923Gyatso was a pretty strict pacifist and he airbended all the air out of the room and suffocated them all which feels like a forbidden technique kind of deal
Need your advice please bros. My cousin's fiance is coming to visit from overseas for a few months and he's an EDHonly, but thankfully a casual one that only plays kitchen table with friends. I only play legacy and premodern and would like to bring him along to one of our game days; what's the best way to introduce him to the format so he doesn't get crushed from lack of format or card knowledge? He has both a Winota deck and a goblins deck for EDH, so I was thought of offering him Winota initiative and goblins or sligh for legacy and premodern respectively. I'm also meeting him in the middle and made some EDH decks for 1v1 kitchen table play from stuff I have already.
>>96901135Laugh and insult him for being a nerd, then when he asks you to stop start making piggie noises until he leaves.
>>96901121Or maybe the simpler explanation is that the aerocaust never happened
>>96899589the old legend rule led to people intentionally sideboarding in 4x of legends to play as removal for your opponent's deck, which wotc doesn't want because it A: highlights how retarded busted some pushed cards are, and B: makes timmy feel bad every time his big named creature is killed by the legend rule. Back in the day there were people running Tolarian Academy in every deck just to deny it to the opponent too.
>>96899156It was really the Avatars we have in the shows are very immature and weak relative to their predecessors
>>96899156aang was like 12 and the entire events of the first show all happen within less than a year, which already has him going from waving a stick at people to blow air and knock them over, to being able to wipe out an entire city if he really tried and able to 1v1 comet empowered ozai. if he gets that strong in like six months imagine how powerful he'd be with another 20+ years of training; there's a reason the Avatar is treated like the in-universe equivalent to a nuclear superpower keeping international order through implicit force.
It just says 'Bear'.
>>96900411love big cats
And another Bumi.
edh slop
>>96901280Yes. Very squeezable.
Jailer effect, pretty decent rate for a body? Good for limited.
And this seems kind of great for an uncommon.
>>96901278fucking weird
Cute flavour.
And there's the returning token Maro teased.
>>96901338Fun design at least.
>>96900373Holy sweet fucking satan's butthole this thing is busted.
>>96901357I mean it's basically a better (well, I guess Fire Nation Trebuchet doesn't have any power) version of the card that had the token first.
>>96901195Korra's problem more is that she's so spiritually retarded that she's barely on par with a 12 year old Aang AFTER he'd gotten spiritually crippled. And then she goes and fucks up so bad that she gets the Avatar spirit permanently crippled.
>>96901195Well, Aang had the excuse of his training being cut short, Korra had the excuse of living in relative peace so she didn't feel the need to be as proper.
>>96899474Her
>>96900373Mai + Kambalfuck Phoenix desu
>>96901298Can you choose the same mode twice?
>>96901432Does it say you can?
>>96901398LOOK AT THOSE FUCKING LIPSHNNNNNNNNNG
>>96901432Since it doesn’t say you can, and the mechanic is having at least 3 lessons in your graveyard, probably not. I wish though.
>>96901386>Korra had the excuse of living in relative peace so she didn't feel the need to be as properShe was kept in a compound and trained by wizened White Lotus masters from childhood. Really it's the White Lotus' fault she ended up so fucking retarded. They did not beat her anywhere near enough.
>>96901482I mean the point of Korra was that while she was pretty good at bending from the start, the spiritual side of being the Avatar was just completely fucked for her, right?
>>96901496Yeah, because she's an ADD retard
>>96901496>Korra>Having a point
It's kind of funny how the Earth Kingdom ultranationalist gets to be a sympathetic character and then there's Amon
>>96897434>I hope this set gets the "Omenpath" treatment. It will right? Its a similar contract with the same company. Itd be kind of odd if this set didnt get omenpath'd
>>96897463I think it's basically a Marvel/DC copyright. They have the shared copyright for "Super Heroes", but not the word "superhero".
>>96901496Korra's issue was that she was flat out not taught any of that, yes, and as such she didn't get any of the guidance the previous Avatars are supposed to give.Like, Aang pretty consistently got insight into what being the Avatar meant from his previous selves and ultimately figured how to talk to them at will, but I guess the Lotus just didn't give a shit about anything but making Korra into a swole bender who could beat the shit out of incoming threats (and even at that they failed since she obviously wasn't going to be able to learn Airbending by herself)
>>96901551That's because Kuvira did nothing wrong, while Amon was trying to Harrison Bergeron the world. I won't even mention his backstory since it just denigrates the character.
>>96900219Thats rough, buddy.
>>96900219Is this the ever so rare heterosexual kiss?
