legacy’s beyond cucked tbqh desuIt was obvious it’s a meme format from the moment drs and ragavan were banned
Getting into mtg has been a double edged sword. I love playing the game but my play group gets together MAYBE once a month, and my lgs gave a very negative vibe. Is spelltable worth a shot or is it just reddit trannies?
I bought sleeves and I originally wanted Dragon Shield but guys at my LGS strongly recommended Katanas so I got Katanas. They're good but I regret it. I really want the extra length on top of the Dragon Shields.
>>96981676One more anon suckered by the classic trap of "japan thing good"

>>96981676Katana are the best sleeves you can currently get, you retard. Dragon Shit can't even compare.
>>96981294>Is spelltable worth a shot or is it just reddit trannies? Not worth it. You're going to be playing against cheaters and the dregs of the magic playerbase- which is already the dregs of society
i bought a few decks to play irl with my sister after playing arena and playing lorcana beforehand. idk how yall play this. it's so annoying having to keep track of everything and tokens and shit
>>96981766just buy the tokens and/or use dice
>>96981766counters = penniestokens = tear up a piece of paper and have a nice little arts and crafts break where you draw a funny little goblin
>>96981766Go back and play girl games with your sister, you sissy

is paper dying? why is mtga trying to push in store play now?
>>96981766Sounds like you messed up and bought nu-MTG which is designed around investors and mechanics made with online clients in mind.Should have bought real-MTG which was designed for people to have fun with around a kitchen table.
>>96981863Standard is dead in paper magic. I went to my local shop after several years and literally all they run for paper magic now is commander. More people attending than ever, but the people who used to play Standard either play it on Arena or they moved on to other games like Lorcana.
>>96981870i guess so. i bought the lord of the rings frodo commander deck and teh alien warhammer deck
>>96981766>having to keep track of everything and tokens and shitThat's why you use actual "tokens" to represent those things. But yeah I tend to avoid token/counter heavy decks because they're lame anyways.
Anyone had luck with getting a return out of eBay scammers? Bought a lot from someone who said it was their dead husband's collection and had about 200 worth of cards in the photo, but everything else in the container was literally basic lands and spider-man chaff, even though they've been using the "dead husband" story since july and spider-man came out two months ago.
>>96981983Also, there's no way somebody talks like this if they didn't KNOW they were punking, right?
>>96981983>I bought the oldest scam in the book and it was a scam!mail anthrax to the return address or something idk
>TQFor me it's 2012. We got two innistrad expansions and some return to ravnica stuff. M13 core set was surprisingly fun too. Quality really is better than quantity to me. It's a shame so many of my mtg friends trooned out I would have enjoyed FF and Avatar with them. Nice to save money though I was always the one paying for the whole draft.
>>96982004>I bought the oldest scam in the book and it was a scam!I will say in my defense I was almost certain it was bullshit, but I've heard that eBay is pretty good at siding with the buyer in these situations, so figured the risk was low. Just wanted to know if anyone else had bothered to do it. Most of the bulk lots I buy even with fishy descriptions end up being halfway worth it so this was the most absurd one.
>>96981118>What was your favorite year for MTG?the last time I was seriously invested in both the game and lore was eldritch moon so like 2016-2017
>>96982013that seems really stupid. if it was all of the dead husband's collection maybe it makes sense but she said she picked out 200 cards or something. it's basically like those prepackaged pokemon cards that you see in stores meant to scam parents
>>96982029Pretty much the only thing that made me even bother buying it was that the photo had a bag of like 70 various spindown dice (and not just prerelease kit ones), which made it plausible it was just some guy's old collection even if the "my dead husband" stuff was BS. That being said the guy's return address has a man's name, so he's either gay or (obviously) lying and offloading his chaff.
>>96982021>thalia, organically popular character with meta card>her storyline builds her up as a likable and heroic woman who caves in the face of pressure and has to become a true hero>with each innistrad set this story is naturally building her up to be a hero of the people going from local soldier to rallying symbol for humanity>nvm we replaced her with some random black woman and thalia is some wandering homeless person now

>>96982101Is it retarded if eBay refunds me? It was basically just for my own amusement at that point.
>>96982101>>96982115There's also a pecking order of retardation, cause I'm certainly not retarded enough to fall for this.
>>96982135While you're still a retard this message is classic scammer manipulation where he's contradicting himself and threatening you against taking action.>I just got off the phone with the authorities, they're on my side btw, you're stupid if you try to do anything>but I'd be willing to do a partial refund>the authorities said all the evidence is on my side, you can't do shit, I could report you even>but I'd do a partial refund if you just don't contact ebay, please god don't do that
>>96982206Yeah, the obvious "I just got off the phone and they said I'M IN THE RIGHT" shit is always so funny to me. They're also begging me to take the refund in so many words so it's obvious they know I'm gonna get my money back lol.

I haven't played much since Theros when a 5/5 with an ability for 4 was nuts. This is a 5 drop that gives 9/8 worth of stats right?! With trample and an ability?! What in the power creep is going on?! They must know this is insane, what the fuck is wrong with WoTC?
>>96982089That music is garbage. Fuck you.

>>96982774you might be doing a bit but I truly doubt he's standard viable. he doesn't actually add 9/8 to the board unless you cast him on 6 mana (since the land would be tapped and unable to block otherwise). there's like literally one standard viable 6drop and it's picrel. plus the land can get Flood Maw'd and stuff lol.if you're trying to stick a 5 drop and win the game by swinging with it I think there are better cards within the same set like Fire Lord Azula>>96982802the other Ally tokens look pretty okay that ones just a bit wide

If i were to cast Fake your own death, and then copy it, and target the same creature with both, would I get 1 or 2 treasures?Likewise, would Feign death give my creature 2 +1/+1 counters?
>>96986873seconding this. I just wanna suggest we start calling all UB formats "magic 2" (derogatory) and call the formats without UB just "magic"

>>96987181You get 2 treasures. Feign Death would only give 1 +1/+1 because the second trigger would have nothing to bring back. Fake Your Own Death still gives you an extra treasure because even if it can't find the creature it still creates the treasure (you get a treasure even if it's a token that dies and doesn't go to the grave)
>>96987291>60 card deck with a 15 card sideboardThis isn’t the containment thread, we actually play Magic: the Gathering here. That being said, I would also propose standard legality upon release as a requirement. I would like to minimize the impact of coommander on any prospective new formats
>>96986873While that could be a good format, I think it would be a great format if we just did a universes beyond mega mash sealed event, everybody picks one booster from 6 different universes beyond sets, and then you build your deck from those boosters. it would be so much fun.
>>96987291I'm no expert but maybe a good starting point would be to have more than less sets (more cards more people want to play generally). I'm not sure I want another legacy tier format tho and I think taking in new UW sets would help keep the interest in the format. nor am I sure about the bans and if straight to modern sets should be allowed. I'd lean towards no on that too but I'm biased about wotc printing straight to a format.tldr so basically modern (or bigger) without UB and horizons maybe
>>96987297Cheers anon, appreciate it!
>>96987351100%Also since it's a fan made format why limit yourself to 60 cards? It could be any number. and a playset could be any number also. 80 card deck with maximum of 6 of any given card why not. I'm just saying the world is your oyster.
>>96987389>basically modern (or bigger) without UB and horizons maybeThat seems reasonable, man it's insane how much MH fucked things up.
>>96987423at the very least it would be interesting to see which decks would be at the top and how balanced the meta would be
>>96987446Theoretically boomer jund would still be a top tier deck, no? I'm all for that.
I prefer Pioneer for an UB free format.
>>96987488what do you have against fetches?
I had an idea for a format once. everybody has to pick one universe from beyond set to be their known universe, and then they can only play with cards from that universe. So you can play spongebob secret lair cards vs Spider-Man and friends to see who's better.
>>96987515I pick mtg as my universe
>>96987515nice!! go comment this shit to the coomander general faggot.
>>96987528everyone gets access to most of MTG, but you can like use the street fighter secret lair guys, but if you do street fighter cards, you can't bring knuckles from sonic into play or you'd be cheating.
>>96987558gay
Even without UB you'd still have 7 set standard
>>96987569well if you want to play knuckles from sonic and your street fighter guys you can just do that, but it wouldn't be the same format. it could still be fun though.
>>96987574I doubt it. They dont have such "confidence" to risk their shit into 7 differents sets of actual in universe Magic, they know they dont have great content atm. What they dont actually seems to grasp is that UB has worse content but they are still searching for the next FF boom.
>>96982774Commander design means they have cranked the rate on creatures since you have at least 120 life worth of opponents and probably some dumb fuck concept like "a big creature is actually a downside because you might scare people at the table and get targetted :("
>>96987585for an ub enthusiast faggot? sure you will have a blast...
>>96987585willfully misinterpreting someone's post hasn't been interesting in like 10 years. Get with the times man.
>>96987604look i'll be honest, i've been playing magic since like 98, and I don't have a fucking clue about any of the lore. Like I remember they used to sell fat packs with books in them and shit, but yeah I didn't pay attention to any of that, so yeah I actually find these UB sets to be a cool novelty. It's like having alternate art on playable cards and giving players more ways to customize their decks is pretty awesome.
>>96987676you never read flavor text?I mean shit, did you never read card name? or look at art? how did you get through the weatherlight saga without any clue of what's going on?
>>96987732>how did you get through the weatherlight saga without any clue of what's going on?I mostly just played burn with null rods, ankh of mishras and fireblasts
>>96987676>look i'll be honest, i've been playing magic since like 98Unreal, not that anon but that's literally few years before I was born. Holy shit
>>96987833i get it, i'm not the oldest dude playing modern at our local shop, but you're not the first kid to react like that, and won't be the last. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go crush a universes beyond pre-release for some cartoon shit I never paid any attention to. catch you later.
>>96987928Kek, but don't forget, I'm not a kid, I'm pushing 30 soon so I'm not the youngest
This should have been two mana
>>96988228with a name like that, it shouldn't have been printed at all.
>>96988292Sure okay.
>>96988311ai slop art
>>96988311yes
Oh right this card is in standard with airbending
>>96988477WOTC kinda forgot about testing their cards with older standard sets
>>96988759Would it rotate by now? I don't keep track of Standard cycle, old or new.
>>96988780No
>>96988759They forgot about testing with older sets, they forgot about testing with future sets. I think they just forgot about testing.
>>96988477>>96988759>wooooa if i pay 2 mana and pivot to two extra colors I get to turn my shitty blink spells into less shitty blink spellsCome on
>>96988951I guarantee it will break something
>>96988980Anon this is just turning your airbends into Cloudshift, which is not a very playable card. It's not going to break anything, if you airbend something it was already out there in battlefield or cast and put in the stack. There aren't even any MDFCs to cheat out like the old Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor trick.
>>96988996>>96988951These seem like posts that will show up in a "/tg/ can't into card evaluation" collage down the line. But since I can't do card evaluation either perhaps it will be my post, and I will be hoisted by my own petard
>>96989024I think that Airbend as a mechanic is going to be pretty niche until Strixhaven rolls by, if we get any good MDFCs in it. It's mostly just shittier blink that can also be a worse bounce when needed; we don't really have anything that would benefit from being able to be cast by (2) at the moment in Standard. However, MDFCs might change things, since you can cast it for the cheap side, airbend it, then cast the expensive side for 2 later; but that will be very dependant on what we actually get in Secrets.
>>96988951It allows you to get an instant speed infinite combo.
>>96985865Allies are whack
What should I play for Legacy tomorrow? I played 4c D&T last time and Winota Initiative the time before that. I'm not very good with blue decks, and I'm reluctant to play Oops despite it being my favourite deck because we play infrequently and I'd like to spend alot of time playing.>Initiative - Mono W, RG, RW, Naya>Delver - UR, Patriot or Grixis - I refuse to use Murktide, so I have my own weirdo builds with Cabal Therapy or Bedlam Reveler>Lands - GW Sphere>Zenith - Jund, 4c Yorion>D&T - BW (+G and/or R)>Other Ancient Tomb - Mono W Stax, Mono R Sneak Attack>OopsI have several other decks nearing competion, so would be playing those for a while after today.>Dredge>Bomberman>Infect>belcher
>>969822761W2/1First StrikeNon-creature spells cost 1 more. But I would also ban every MH card, every UB card, and every card post Kaldheim from modern.
>>96989150a 9 mana three card infinite is not good. this is just your average blink infinite but shittier and with more failure points
>>96989220>Lands - GW SphereThis one
>>96989226It's like classic Splinter Twin. It's a viable tempo shell that can also just win if your opponent taps out on turn 4. I don't think it's top tier but saying it's a '9 mana 3 card combo' is disingenuous. Each individual piece is a solid rate and two of the pieces can protect the other pieces from removal.
>>96986032>Okay, mtg is still selling but *assorted cope noises*MtG is about as dead as it was 10 years ago (it isn't).
>>96988477>>96989150>>96989242can't comment on standard but this definitely has potential in pioneer where the mana is good and it's much easier to find your combo pieces
Does WOTC just not have any spellcheckers or editors on staff
>>96989326Huh?
Red is really getting a one mana Uno Reverse cardThis is hilarious in itself, but doubly so in the mirror match where both players will try to redirect each other's redirect
>>96989368I believe that Anon is saying the line:>Team Avatar collectively agreed that play wasn't very good.should read>Team Avatar collectively agreed that *the* play wasn't very good.
>>96989415It wouldn't fit because of the holo.
>>96989415it's a little awkward as printed but it's not grammatically incorrect. an extra "the" is not needed.
>>96989415It works either way, they just mean slightly different things. I think it'd actually work best if it said>agreed that *it* wasn't very goodbut what they have is still grammatically correct
>>96989387a one mana red counterspell that's actually better than counterspell in every case that matters. This needs to be UR not R. It's literally a waterbending technique that Iroh plagarised.
>>96989452It would never see play if it cost UR
>>96989462Boy, modern Magic may be gay, but I sure don't miss the "Jacetice League sassing each other" era of flavor text.
Seen zero play.
>>96989462well maybe it can just be U then, with the option to pay R or 5 life, I dunno. But monored having a blanket one-mana answer to all spot removal is not okay. You'll all see, mark my words, you'll all see.
>>96989473That one actually does get played because it can target spells without a target.
>>96985873Pyroclasm because all the best earthbending spells are earthbending 1.
>>96989483They already have a 2 mana answer to spot removal. You might argue the new redirect is too powerful, but there's no reason to add U. Red has gotten these before, the color isn't the issue.
>>96985873>best way to punish earthbent lands?Cast pic related for X=0 and I believe all earthbent lands go the graveyard and they won't return because they'd lose that ability.I think that's how it works. I'm not postive desu.
>>96989515that extra mana is a world of difference to a monored player trying for a turn 4or 5 lethal. Keeping one mana open to protect your dudes is easy. Keeping 2 open is literally impossible.
>>96989549Like I said, understandable if you think R costs too little. But suggesting it cost UR or 1U or 1R just makes it useless.
>>96989534>flavor text says it counters fire benders>is used against earth benders insteadeeeeeeh well
>>96989150I watched a few people try this in the arena early access streams and it fucking sucked.
>>96989534>>96989568It doesn't work. Earthbended lands don't gain an ability that can be stripped. It's a delayed trigger or whatever. Though it would still destroy them and thus turn them back into regular lands even at X=0.
>>96989612?
>>96989655It's not an ability. Losing abilities does nothing to earthbent lands.
>>96989655Doesn't work like that. It's the same reason you can't remove all abilities from deputy of detention to make it not return the exiled creature.
>>96989664Isn't "When it dies or is exiled" a triggered ability?
>>96989684No, it's a delayed trigger. There's no "When this dies return it" clause being added to the land.
>>96989684Yes, but it's a delayed trigger from the earthbending effect that animated the land in the first place. It's all part of that original ability. The land never gains the text "When it dies or is exiled, return it to the battlefield tapped." from earthbending. Normally, these sort of things have some sort of clear time limit like "this turn" or whatever, but earthbending lasts forever. If animating lands was a more common mechanic, this would probably cause headaches since you would need to keep track of which lands were animated via earthbending and which were not.
Manlands ruin every game they appear in and are the worst genre of card design in MTG. Yes, worse than Companions.Prove me wrong.
>>96989724They're cancer, but Companions is on another level.
>>96989443>>96989451You can't just drop the definite article from the object of a prepositional phrase whenever you want. It's grammatically improper, confusing, and stilted. Are you all ESL or just stupid?
>>96989804Specifically, you need a definite article because the prepositional phrase is referring to a specific singular noun earlier in the sentence (The Boy in the Iceberg). Dropping the definite article makes the sentence read that Team Avatar thinks that play (as a concept, like recreation) isn't good. You can infer from context clues that this isn't the intent of the sentence, but it's absolutely improperly written. It's also just not good flavor text. Like >>96989420 said they probably dropped it to fit it in the frame, but there were much better ways to do that.
>>96982621>>96985732>>96987488>>96989274you know for all the talk about pioneer being dead, it some how feels that people talk about pioneer more than any other format except for c*mmander
>>96989738why do idiots keep hating on companions? its nowhere as broken as yugioh where you can play all 15 extra deck monsters turn 1 with no cost, most companions are downright fucking unplayable and require deck building limits, aside from jagantha or lurrus the rest of perfectly fine, and often underpowered.
>>96989473Its really good against cyclonic rift in commander.>>96987928I'm back from crushing my pre-release. Not only did I got 3-0, but I went 6-0 in games, and I got the stupid flash owl and flash 5/5 alligator that draws you cards and my promo was the planetarium that let's you cast free shit after using scry or surveil. I really think I got everything I wanted from the set at the prerelease. You all ain't even on my level get on my level.
Jeskai wins RC USA! | Modern | MTGOhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adTi3qAKDxc
>>96990005Mainly people just want to speculate on pioneer it seems. There's basically no outlet for actual play so people are just constantly brainstorming brews that never get released.
>>96990019>Not only did I got 3-0, but I went 6-0 in gamesWhat did you play?
>playing standard event>opponent is playing BotLG reanimator >figure I'm fucked >turn 5, out comes (not) Superior Spiderman >he brings back his graveyard under double consuls leaving me with a 12 strength pic related while he only has 11 life left>he immediately concedesMade my day.
>>96990042yeah but that shows that pioneer is quite popular that people will speculate brews, when a format is really dead (que oathbreaker) no one talks about it at all.its really a shame since pioneer despite its flaws seem at this point to be unironically the most balanced format even if some colours have a massive advantage.>>96982621also btw why do you play lithoform blight, as some one who also has a doomfortold deck(yorion version with no united battlefront). whats the purpose of that?
>>96990007>it's not as bad as the game that just had to emergency ban like 30 cardsIf we are even in the same zipcode of degeneracy as YGO we are in trouble
>>96990075buddy 90% of the companions are literally fucking UNPLAYABLE, this isn't even 0.0001 close to being like yugioh, in yugioh extra deck monsters have ZERO requirements and can just all be played turn 1 easily and even looped infinitely sometimes. meanwhile cards like yorion literally force you to run 80 cards destroying consistency and making your side deck worthless, thats a huge cost, or cards like lutri who literally forces you to play 60 card commander and only play 1 ofs, don't get me started on gyruda or obosh which destroys your curve and forces you to play inefficiently with odd or even mana. companions aside from lurrus are perfectly balanced and its fucking retarded that people even compare them to complete mistakes like the one ring, nadu, breach, yagmoth, belcher, show and tell, spy etc. and more broken one turn win cards.
>>96990050Bant, but the green was only for the */2 that gets bigger for different color allies, 2 copies of the 2/3 green white vigilance that gives other allies +1/+1 and a single copy of the 7/7 forest cycling guy, had a copy of the WWx that makes x allies and gives everything a plus 1 counter. I didn't even read what any of the red or black cards I opened did. I had a boomerang equipment in my deck because I thought it would be good with waterbending being a 1 mana artifact, but it was better just putting it on a vigilance guy and attacking then tapping then 2nd main phase put it on another guy with vigilance to use at opponents end step. I had one activation of the fucking planetarium where I scry both the owl and the make x allies, and had to settle for just getting a 1/1 flying vigilance owl for 1 mana, but he got to become a 2/2 the next turn. The 3 mana bounce vehicle that becomes a creature was pretty strong too.
>>96990069>whats the purpose of that? It's just a permanent to sacrifice, draw, and occasionally disables stuff like manlands or thespian stage.
>>96989724>hating on Mishra's Factorywew
>>96990094Moronic take
>>96990105oh I assumed you were using it to help cast beseech the mirror with 3 black
>>96990254That's also an option. All permanents are there to beseech when needed. That's why I put in one sweeper, to Beseech out if needed.
>>96982621This explains why any copy of birth of meletis I list actually sells lol
>>96986305As someone who plays and enjoys FF14, this card is really embarrassing. Like being a child and hearing your parents use slang
>>96990322Anytime UB has brushed against something I have any sort of care about (Evil Dead, Vocaloid, etc.), the result has only been deep and utter embarrassment at the flavor fails and general annoyance at the execution. I still have no idea why the fuck anyone bought those horrid miku lairs with that fucked up art.
Nebraska won
>>96985873There's some buzz about pic rel but unfortunately you're probably just gonna be thinning your opponent's deck at that point given how many non-basics are played these days.
>>96990347The fact is that comic spiderman is actually a really niche fanbase that has been shat on forever, so any remaining fan is extremely jaded

>>96990094t. Yorion player who lies who when he says his deck is sufficiently shuffled

>>96989452>that's actually better than counterspell in every case that matters. Not really, outside of already having the big downside of not working against spells or ability with multiple or no target like wrath, to change the target of a spell you still need another valid target so if your opponent try to remove your creature that's alone on the field the card is useless. Redirect effect are often the kind of cards that look good in theory because you always imagine the best case scenario where you totally blow the fuck out of your opponent but in practice you always have a lot of situation where the card is useless or clunky to use.

>>96990575imagine mtg threads as shit as /alter/ was in its heyday
>>96990484the flavor text is from one of the few instances in the game where you can't skip cutscenes and the 35 year old wine aunts who constantly fill low level queues will stop at nothing to make shitty quips during all of them. The card itself makes zero sense because it's referencing a phase change in a particular boss fight that absolutely does not end anyone's turn and effectively kills no one, it just destroys the landscape because the player gets mcguffined out of it actually harming them. It would make far more sense being on a reprint of Armageddon
