You can't just teach this game to people anymore. It's undergone 30 years of powercreep and there are 10 new mechanics every year. Not even going into how expensive it is. Pretty much the only Magic players I've seen under 30 play it because their parents played it. Magic players are like English longbowmen, you need to start a generation in advance. Why would a random kid pay $500 to play paper Magic when they can play Fortnite for free?That's why WotC is just juicing its aging playerbase as hard as possible, but this is causing record levels of burnout, and it's not the kind of burnout that just goes away. Even during Ravager Affinity which straight up killed the game, there was still flavor and some wiggle room to compete with the top tier decks that kept people interested so when the meta changed they'd come back. Now? The game looks like shit from an ass and keeps getting worse, and so many sets come out a year that if you drop out for a couple years you won't know what the fuck is happening.People will cope and say Magic has been dying for ten years but it's still around, but really, this game is in trouble.
