Even if you inexplicably had all of a 40k Total War set on a single planet rather than planet to planet like DoW, how does the game explain or balance game-breaking crap like dropping troops on the other side of the planet or ability to bombard from orbit? Any of those would be overpowered in a regular Total War game.

Every model in the box is solid except the Cthonian Earthshakers but they're still quite good, you'll just rarely use more than 2 of them. Two Kapricuses lets you build one as a Carrier (most lists include one to split the Hernkyn Yaegirs from the kill team) and one as a Defender or two Carriers if you swing that way. Brokhyr Ironmaster sets are worth having two of, at 75 points they can be an easy seat stuffer for your Hekatons down the line and they can heal wounds on your 3 most valuable units (Hekatons, Steeljacks, Thunderkyn). Speaking of, Thunderkyn are a must-run for raw damage output so getting 6 off the bat is good, in the future you may well want more but probably no more than 12 total. And yeah, 20 Beserks lets you justify running the Delve Shift Assault detachment, and Beserks can be nasty little bastards with deep strike and the uppy-downy stratagem.

I just finished this and I have to vent some steam. Just how badly was this game butchered by budget cuts? I can forgive almost anything but holy shit the plot seems to have had it worst. At first the game shows some chaos shenanigans going on and heavily implies that the story will delve into the Chapter's past all the way back to the Horus Heresy, but completely forgets about all this after a few missions. Instead it all boils down to "Oh yeah so there are tyranids here. Let's overload the plasma generators and get the fuck out". Well no shit there are tyranids there, you could have nuked the damn thing from orbit in the first place

Painted some crisis suits. They're for a 3rd edition themed army so I gave them green rims, 40mm bases, and white helmets. Would you be apprehensive playing against them in modern 40k with their smaller base size? I don't play enough to know how much it ultimately matters.

I'm actually confused. I haven't enjoyed playing 10th at all. Yet I keep on buying, building and even painting models. If I'm being honest with myself, most of my free time is spent on this. I obviously enjoyed those aspects of the hobby, but I can't see how the playing part can improve. We all know 11th will be worse. What I'm saying is that the game isn't very fun, yet I pay a lot of money and spend a lot of time on it, and I can't really stop even though I'm aware of the problem.
