speaking of spooky Fae, here's the cover of Kithbook Strega, from the storytellers vault.
>>97115319Meant generation, cult is another background in v20 that lets you be a member or have your own cult. I guess it's kind of like allies that worship you or something. The private army one is Military Force I think but if it's something officially supported for v20

Reading through some of the backgrounds, the descriptions are pretty hilarious, though I like the way they sort of reflect the splat's attitude and opinions. >>97114802Generation & then cult is really good cause Cult is technically several backgrounds in a trenchcoat.
>>97116198I feel like cult does what it says on the tin, but it also depends on the ST and overall how people interpret what a cult is. Like cults have such a particularly fervent view that you can probably easily turn them into enemies by just going against the sort of tenets of what's going on. For example, if you make some hippy sex cult and then you, as the leader, decide to go full on monogamy with some chick out of of possessiveness, I feel like that would probably cause some friction. Just an example. Could easily happen if you grow a conscious over an NPC or something while doing some nasty shit running a cult. Could likewise easily argue that cult members are stupid enough to just ignore it

>>97116417Well yeah, you gotta juggle the Cult & the cultists, but its a good way to put your eggs in a basket. There's a few ways to help though, either use New Age Thaumaturgy Rituals, Dominate, Presence or just Blood Bonds to mollify them. I find it best to have a deniable personality/alias for it. What are the limits of ghoul healing? I got an idea for a vampiric yakuza boss and his ghouled underlings (the kuei jin can tongue my anus) and I got to wondering how that would interact with their whole finger thing
>>97116583I would think ghouls have a good if limited ability to heal lethal wounds as long as you've given then blood. They're still basically normal humans just with better attributes, so less than what a full blown vampire can do but more than what a normal human can do. Still wouldn't be able to fully heal something that horribly fucks them up, like if they were to be shot until nearly dead. Something that would take human hunters months to recuperate from for instance, a ghoul might be faster but it's not a matter of having blood points and then full healing

May have one physically stronger than a Kindred if they were already a specimen when they got ghouled.

>>97117031>>Only becomes a full on furry werewolf if he does it too muchTo elaborate with the help of a visual aid >>97117084 , imagine 3 states: fully human, skin-changed, and fully wolf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf>If they abstain from tasting human flesh while wolves, they will be restored to human form nine years later; if they do not abstain, they will remain wolves forever.https://www.tumblr.com/maverick-werewolf/179127531287/random-werewolf-fact-25-how-to-cure-lycanthropy>This is the case in Norse legends such as the tale of Sigmund and Sinfjotli, who donned wolf skins and became wolves until they managed to get those skins off again. It was also the case with Melion, who put on a cursed ring and became stuck in a wolf form.

>>97117955It's balanced around the Gentry, iron being everywhere and PCs having problems that can't be solved by throwing glamour at it (attracts Huntsmen and Gentry). Also contracts no longer being dirt cheap and instead being mostly fairly priced is something to consider. The biggest offender in ctl2e are curses though. >>97118037>Vampires have the edge on scenarios that never come up like long term projects or social influence. They may have the easiest time with creating mass minions but honestly, who does that in game? Not to be that guy, but just in contrast with changelings (and because my job bores me greatly):- long term / social influenceChangelings can live very long lives and have ways to become true immortals. Meaning IF they want to they can play the long game. Not to mention the fucky-wucky relation the Hedge/Arcadia have with time in general.- mortal minionsGhouls require blood regularly, not just to stay ghouls, but to use their abilities as well. After a certain point its a question of time and resources spent. A changeling could slay a dragon, claim its hoard (or just spin gold from straw) and hire mercenary compa... ahem, security companies which might individualy be no match for a good ghoul, but gear and training go a long way to help against pretty much anytging that's not imune to Gun.That brings me to the one big problem all whiterooms have: scale and intentChangeling is a very open game with easy options for things others have to heavily specialize in. They lack the tankyness of a vamp or woof by default, but given a few dots in the right token or a few combat Contracts and the changeling in question can go toe to toe with the best of them, without having to neglect other things. And Contracts span a very wide array of things without needing heavy investment besides maybe having a teacher for the additional Benefits.Whiterooms are stupid anyways. Let's not fall into that autism hole.
>>97117955Honestly I keep seeing people say that 1e pledges were busted but I haven't had that experience. I think it's a white roomer problem. That, or it's a doormat ST problem, one who makes NPCs too gullible and/or cooperative. You need to be slick to trick an NPC into a pledge that benefits you at their expense, and you need to be a good negotiator to convince NPCs into mutually beneficial pledges. Why? Because the devil is quite literally in the details and a seemingly beneficial pledge could be worded in such a way as to screw you over. One fun thing to do is to write the pledge down verbatim but only the ST can look at it, it requires Int + Composure rolls for the PCs to recall the exact wording. That way there's a very real risk of the PC breaking their own pledge by accident. Pledges are fine, I like Changelings as the very human fragile template filled with specialists at very odd and specific things. When they leverage those specific powers well they're immensely tricky to deal with. The 1e Changeling template was really close to perfection IMO. It needed a few little changes but instead they went in a wildly different direction with the entire template to start dick measuring with DaveB and that makes me sad. Sucked most of the character I enjoyed out of the splat.
>>97118037Aren't mages also pretty long lived? WoD cross splatting has never really been balanced anyway but I think a cool bit of assymetric balance can make a fun campaign. Seems like something you'd do for a long campaign though or with a like a huge threat. Could not imagine being an ST and then running 4-5 times the characters to manage the different social circles of every pc
>>97118485>Aren't mages also pretty long lived? The primary weakness of mages is supposed to be their hubris. Those whose lives aren't cut short by their arrogance should have it impact their lives in some other terrible way that they shouldn't be able to fix without confronting their pride.
>>97118485>Aren't mages also pretty long lived? If they're skilled enough? Yeah.
>>97118597>>97118671Maybe they should stop to think about whether they should rather than if they can when they consider turning the Vampire into a lawn chair, making a Garou into a pet, or making a ghost slushie with Wraith ectoplasm
>>97114301>For Changeling players: How often do you deal with cross splat shenanigans? When I ran Changeling the Lost, I found a Slasher to make a great antagonist for an arc, and I also like the intersection of Vampire and Changeling when it comes to a political-themed chronicle.
>>97118136>Whiterooms are stupid anyways. Let's not fall into that autism hole.Yeah but that's just a way to get the broad strokes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) from most interactions without saying stuff like "on average..."White rooms happen because most people are basically incapable of telling their game stories in a interesting manner or get decent answers for more mechanical questions.
>>97118356Oh yeah it's mostly "people" parroting shit in relation to a game they, probably, never played enough to see how it usually works. Like there are some blatant bullshit things in old games but we never hear about those being exploited, because even people with room temperature, in Celsius, IQs are capable of working out a more reasonable outcome for the game.

Starting work on a campaign writeup for HtV. Unfortunately I write my notes mid-session on an envelope and it is illegible, but the broadstrokes will be correct. It'll be presented as a mishmash of journals from NPCs and the PCs as the campaign proceeds. Pic related is from one of the earlier sessions, before my BBEG is aware of the PCs existence. I think the final effort will be collated by some as-yet third party to provide a sembelance of context.

>>97121158He has yeah, that writeup is from several months ago. He's only revealed himself as the bad guy to one PC, but the others are distrustful of him on principle because he's the only named cop in the campaign so far. I hadn't considered that angle, but they're not wrong.
>>97114301>TQYes, in one HtR game I payed in we found a Prince of the Fey that started working as a mortal cop thinking it was the funniest shit ever, but spent too much time in the mortal world and forgot who he was.We basically had to remind him of his fey-ness for him to recover his powers. He thanked us and left, but gave us a magic fey dog as reward. It looked like a himalayan mastiff and his name was Bear. He never really did much except when we found out that his bark was as loud as a thunderclap
>>97121848Another time we followed a lead about an apparent serial rapist but it was actually a Satyr that used his fey seduction bullshit powers to seduce several women into having sex with him and make a sort of harem. He argued they gave themselves to him willingly and he never hurt nobody but the game ended before we could decide what to do with him
>>97121848>get a magic fey dog>it does nothing until the moment you figure out what it does>said thing is arguably more of a detriment to the player than the enemyThat sounds like fey alright, kino

>>97121887Bear was a very good dog. We never took him on missions so we never found out the extent of his powers but apart from the super loud bark he could apparently teleport at will and was *probably* immortal but we never wanted him to get hurt so we never found out

Zebra Girl handled it pretty well>Quirky Fey creatures>They're genuinely trying to eat you /scam you/ jew you but they're good chaps about itToo much reliance on visual Fey and not enough Fey tricks and word play sort of stuff. Other than that, I feel like strong Fey are about the most OP shit a hunter can run into without running into a Methuselah, Anti, or Archmage. And the odds of running into actual powerful fey is well over 10 x the other strong versions of splats They're definitely underused in video games though

>>97121963Unfortunately that was years ago so most details are foggy. We also hunted down and killed a sort of monkey-like thing with an impossible name from Australian folklore, if that counts as a fey.We also met a Titan from Greek mythology. >>97122008>Kino, I wonder how he worked that one out. Seems like a fun gameTo be clear we are talking about actual Wendigo not the werewolf tribe of the same name.We didn't even know at the start, we stumbled upon a ransacked cottage in a forest and when we entered to look inside we found the monster busy eating some people. We fought, he escaped, we tracked him to another cottage and ambushed him. When we killed the Wendigo it reverted to its original human form and we found out it was Shia LaBeuf. It was just a very self contained short adventure made for laughs

>>97122048Never did like WTA using Wendigo on a werewolf tribe when the actual Wendigo is extremely fomori-esque. A spirit of hunger possessing someone and turning them into a monster with a point of no return? That's a Fomori.
>>97122094From what little I know about what they were aiming for, they wanted to showcase amerindian lore in a more positive light than the other myths but anything below the american border was free game.
>>97122135But the Wendigo is an evil creature in native folklore, it's not like you're taking a benevolent entity and making it evil. Not to mention the Wendigo are the assholes of the three native American tribes.
>>97122094I always thought real Wendigos would be sort of Fomori-esque too, what with the exposed moose skull typically. Would definitely be a cool Fomori enemy, could even make them a sort of pre-BSD BSD for Wendigo(the tribe)>>97122135>Amerindian>We make Wendigos normal dudes who turn into dogs, but they EAT DUDES LOLThe Silver Fang were totally in their right to genocide the natives, despite the micropenis

Seems like we're having a new Lead Game Designer in "White Wolf"...
>>97122251>Make games more accessibleWhy does it happens every time bros, this is the guy who's going to finish Mage and Changeling 5
>>97122251So this is how they're appeasing the huehues. Ultimately I wouldn't think too much of this. This guy is probably just there to rubber stamp whatever low effort stuff Paradox wants put out. Given how poorly BL2 did, I wouldn't be surprised if they just quietly finish their docket over the next two years and don't greenlight anything new.
>>97122332>>97122317The HueHues have a divided opinion on this man: While some like him for his work in BR TTRPG community, others think he's not that much of a good choice 'cause he's specialized in OSR and he's into those shitty minimalist systems. So be ready for a WoD5.5 system or something on these lines.
>>97122353>OSR guy>For the "worst aspects of narrativist systems" WoD5>Also a minimalistLol. Lmao. Kek even. But more to the point, there's no way in hell they'd greenlight another edition, right? Overhauling the core mechanics of a game edition while it's still running isn't really possible, so this guy's just gonna have to kick sand and try to minimalize any future gamelines they do, which I still think is a massive if.
>>97122353>So be ready for a WoD5.5 system or something on these lines.Even in a best case scenario it is going to be a nothingburger.
My hunter game starts soon, any tips for what kind of enemies they should face? I was thinking ghosts and ghouls first, then moving to cryptids using Hosts rules and Fomori inspired lore, then daemonic cults using second sight and daemon the fallen lore, then moving on to Vampires and Technocracy mages assassinations, with an Earthbound as the big bad they must prevent from awakening
>>97122487As always, specify which Hunter. >Hunter's Hunted>Reckoning>Vigil>H5
>>97122487early game you could use rots/zombies? maybe tie it into a wraith or something causing them to pop up
>>97122495sorry, forgotVigil, the players preferred the bigger emphasis on normal humans
>>97122251>that last lineOh, fuck.
>>97122516Slashers are very good early game hunter enemies. Ghouls are fine as well but come with the implication of having a vampiric master. A ghost hunt is always a good way to have a less physical, fight-oriented hunt. I'd also suggest coming up with a few custom 1-2 supernatural potency monsters for early hunts. Check out nWoD Immortals and Skinchangers for other fun "low level" supernatural threats. One thing you could do is have the PCs fight a very young vampire, possibly after taking out their Ghoul. This can serve two purposes. First, it teaches them that some monsters have massive weaknesses they will NEED to exploit to get a clean win (sunlight/daysleep), and two, cause them to underestimate how dangerous vampires actually are, so you can catch them off guard with a stronger one later on.If you want to homebrew technofaggotry, go ahead, but you'll have to homebrew it. I have zero advice on that front, never liked Mage. As for an Earthbound, you can approximate one fairly well with a sufficiently powerful Inferno demon, I would know because that's what my ST used.

>>97123137I think the easiest way to square it is that is the date when Set, actual divinity and effectively multiple master mage, manages some tricksy shenanigans to both be a vampire and a divine (and thus effectively a damn powerful mage). Unfortunately, in a real 'missing the semen on the lettuce' moment the trick he does to balance this state ties his divinity to eventually fall into the underworld, still technically whole but spiritually separated in very poor accordance with his view of the afterlife. So he spends some time as 'just' a third generation vampire laying down some Setitie Sorcery and setting up the whole resurrection thing for his clan-cult.Which if it did succeed would leave him with a new, nasty surprise - having to skedaddle to the further parts of the Umbra lest the fallen nature of the world permanently scar his divinity.

The voices in my walls told me this is the true history, which is being suppressed by the watchers, whom are controlling world governments through their bird-man proxies. The bird-men are semi divine beings from antediluvian Cisenandia, who were defeated by the first makers, who themselves were an intelligent race that evolved during the late Permian period and were genetically resurrected by Nordic aliens from the Pleiades. The resurrected first makers created the watchers, who in turn uplifted humanity’s aquatic ape ancestors, the “first kin” of which ate mushrooms from the Seventh Garden of Sipuresh, granting temporal control over space and time to their cousins the Australopithecus. This is why we have to go to work and pay taxes, or don’t. When the Terminians return from the Aether beyond the great ice wall, humanity will be taken to a garden world on the other side of the universe, where the evils of taxation will cease
>>97123345Humanity's gotten too big for them to be able to protect the world from mankind. >>97126242I never understood that shit, maybe 50% of the time it's blatantly obvious, 40% it's a toss up between two or three clans, and the last 10% it just doesn't matter, kindred are kindred.

>>97126242>Nice glasses, clan?>Ravnos (Lasombra), I stole them off a Tremere (Another Ravnos who bought them because they looked cool)

>>97126098>>97126111Changelings do less harm than Mages, Werewolves, Vampires, etc. & they fight for thr whimsy, nonsense, & great heroic tales that allow us to dream of great truths like justice & honor. Sure, they're churlish & puerile & a papercut from a W-2 might poison them, but they are good guys.>>97126098Technocracy are dicks & created all the ills of the modern world. The don't do as much harm as Pentex though. Maybe I should have at least put them above Vampires. Lilith is the first sinner. Lilith is the murderer of babies & mothers. >>97126565IIRC Nagaraja unless they have that straight up shark maw flaw can hide well but I might be wrong on thisI forgot about Gargoyles but the point is still true in that majority of clans/bloodlines can hide what they are
Between Maeghars, Balli & Cult of Osiris, & such, what's the most mongrel Kindred that could theoretically exist? I dont plan on using it in game, just a thought experiment.
>>97126640A Maeghar turned Cult of Osiris turned Baali. His discipline spread is Mytherceria, Bardo and Daimonion

>>97126330>Technocracy are dicks & created all the ills of the modern worldAre we actually pretending that the world was better when the traditions were in power? Working in a wage cage is 100 times better than being some mage lord's bitch.
>>97126744The great thing about the Dreaming is that IT ISN'T FUCKING REAL TO NORMAL PEOPLE. This means that Satyrs with 10 inch horse cocks are entirely optional! There is no manic pixie dream girl who's a real fairy with elf ears who'll kidnap you to her sad emo mushroom dream realm behind the village funeral director's family painting! And for me, that's a better world.
>>97126765I was hoping to mongrelize his clans more than give him extra splats. Something like + Tremere with the Vicissitude merit & the salubri merit. I could have sworn there was at least one more fucked up bloodline/adoptive clan i could fit in there

Where did this weird cope that the Traditions want to rule over humanity with an iron fist come from? The Traditions don't want to rule, none of the Traditions are built on a desire to dominate other humans. They want a more magical world that allows them to better pursue the perfection of their styles of magic. The downside of a world ruled by the Traditions is that it's a world full of magic and magic can be overwhelming, terrifying and hostile to humanity. It can take the form of dragons that demand regular sacrifices or terrible storms that can eradicate entire kingdoms in a night. In such a world, a mundane human has very little agency and is just a leaf in the wind, swept along by the chaos. The Technocracy are the ones interested in control and dominion and in their world, there is also very little agency, as everyone is reduced to a cog in the machine in order to maintain the Consensus.
>>97127207It's one of Shit Stirrer's classic baits.
>>9712683999% of every single person who has ever defended the Technocracy has always made excuse after excuse as to why until I inevitably pry the core of their argument out. The Internet. Motherfuckers dont want to give up the internet, its that simple. Retard would sell their soul & rent out their bodies like whores for internet & air conditioning.
>>97127207Where else did everything bad with the Traditions come from? The House of Hermes
>>97127207>none of the Traditions are built on a desire to dominate other humansThe Hermetics pretty much explicitly were, and they're the ones people usually imagine when they think mage.
>>97127207True. 90s WoD was about how shit was boring & conformist & the creative spark & wonder was dying. How paradise was being paved over to make an amusement park. All Statis. All Wyvr. All Banal. & because of that imbalance. Because they were harming the wild carefree expressions of the world, evil toxic poison was everywhere & kill the world in a tangible way
>>97127207Here's a section from the first edition on why you're supposed to hate the Technocracy. And this isn't even really in character, this is just what the writers think. Basically, they just don't like if the "masses" have power without the guidance of their "betters".
>>97127283I hate the masses of humanity and think them largely boorish and retarded. They must show merit and this skips that
>>97127226>>97127239Hermetics gatekeep magic and try to assert control over the practice of magic, they don't give much of a fuck about humanity as a whole.
>>97127223Yes, modern technology is not something I'm willing to give up.
>>97127428>Gatekeep>Girlboss>GaslightThe Tremere really are vampire Hermetics
>>97127483Anon do I have news for you. They never stopped being hermetics>>97127428So you're saying they view themselves above humanity. I see and how do humans view the things they're above?
>>97127428Hermetics are the literal jobber tradition. Imagine being mages and losing to v*mpires
>>97127568>spoilersI figured but I'd think they'd be more vampire than hermetics, rather than the other way around
>>97127428Their paradigm is about domination and control over the natural world to bend it to their will. It's not a stretch at all to say they have similar viewpoint on other people. They treat their own apprentices like shit, you think they're going to play nice with sleepers?
How many dots for a flaw that gave one a clearly unnatural skin color? Think gray or pearl white.
>>97127223>Technology...le bad!Gee, imagine wanting to live in a safe world where everything follows certain laws and principles. It's almost as if most people want to have a comfortable life without any random bullshit.
>>97128286>It's almost as if most people want to have a comfortable life without any random bullshit.People regularly take detrimental actions on the gamble of a slight chance that they'll win a jackpot. The only reason it didn't work out for the Traditions is that awakening can't be handed out like that.
>>97128307People regularly take detrimental actions on the gamble of a slight chance that they'll win a jackpot.Society already views gamblers as absolute retards. The masses want others to think for them, look at your average voter.
>>97128194Isn't this just the weird appearance flaw but spicy? That was two points I think. Disfigured?
>>97128439It's similar, but Disfigured implies bad looks (it comes with a limit to Appearance) and I was going for something unnatural but beautiful.
>>97128488Hardly a flaw then if you don't have a malus because you look freaky, but maybe you can ask your ST to make a special Disfigured version. I don't think merely have weird skin counts as a flaw for the game

Why don't the Tremere just develop their own meth in order to drive the thin bloods out of the market?
>>97128807Better yet, Tremere should develop their own Thinblood Alchemy. We can call it something spicy, like Blood Magic. Or... maybe Thamaturgy? I hate the thinblood focus in V5
>>97128827It's still funny to me the original plan for bloodlines 2 was playing as a thinblood to start. Funnier still how they pivoted to an elder.
>>97116503Does anyone here enjoy Dwarf: the Grudge or Elf: the Superior?

Where would the Camarilla be without Tremere and Malks?
>>97129796Functional. Genuinely what do the Malks add if not problems? A writer's pet does not make a clan.
>>97129796Like the Ventrue could actually tardwrangle the rest of the clans if they don't shack up with uppity Mages that everyone hates
>>97129799They add madness network which is very useful for insights, most Malks aren't insane to the point of it being that detrimental
