>I've actually never played a tankista cyoa, are they good?
Tankista's cyoas are generally "tough but fair". Points are generally tight enough that (you) won't be able to afford everything (you) would want, but enough to make a serious build that (you) can be happy with.

They tend to include little Easter eggs that provide more insight into the cyoa, if you look into them. The remake of Blood Magic has a quest with two descriptions - one on top of the other - and you can see them both if you open the page in Photoshop. Similarly, all the quests are named after song titles, with the lyrics (if you look them up) offering hints.

Immortality is usually available, although not necessarily for free, and sometimes not at the start. Some skew a bit goth/angsty, though.

I like the plot symmetry involved in Basilia the Starry. She's the person who initially pulled (you) into this conflict, so many loops ago. And now, abandoned by her faction and under a death curse, she turns to a much later version of (you) as her last hope of survival.

Not just karma, but a way of judging (you). Are (you) happy to be part of these events? Or were (you) drafted? Or maybe (you) just can't turn down a damsel in distress?

Anyone else notice that all the Blood Mage missions have hidden caveats that make them much harder than they seem at first glance? Let There Be Night pretty much means destroying the Dominion, Eye of the Storm wil probably pit (you) against the Ark, maybe Supremacy, likely the Australian government . . .

They also raise the question of just when (you) are summoned. The Aussie misdions imply that (you) are there for the early days of the Revelation, in time to slip in before the barrier goes up. Many of the others, particularly Europe, Africa, and Asia, imply that the Revelation has been going on for a while. So maybe at the very tail end of the last time loop?

Lusus Naturae had about 40 words per power, and it proved tremendously popular despite its amateurishness. Authors these days would really benefit from researching the popular cyoas with an eye for what made them popular. They aren't in the habit of doing this for some reason? But they really should be.

>>
>>97124318
Argument for what?
I mean it's obviously good if the preferences of readers match the cyoas available to them. What a cyoa contains is decided by the conscious acts of the author, so it's something mutable; while what the audience wants is not wholly static either but it's not something you can consciously "design" the way you can design a cyoa.
>>
>>97124322
Well I have Belial so I can just rewrite their conception of god to whatever I want if it comes to that.
>>
>>97124286
Very nice jujutsu kaisen CYOA I loved the cursed techniques- although some of them are a tad too overpowered.

If you're taking suggestions could you add a backstory section? Like if you're male/female and other body parts, if you come from a clan, affiliation to a group, companions, city in which you reside etc

Thanks for making this CYOA!
>>
>>97124304
Why do you think they don't? I'm pretty sure most authors incorporate elements from other cyoas.
>>
>>97124325
It's not difficult. You said something was bad because it had powers longer than X popular cyoa, I said it was an arbitrary rule and that even in its current state any normal person could finish reading all the powers in a short time, you answered with thinking I was the author and telling me to make good cyoas.
So there was a clear lack of arguments on your part when you were trying to impose a weird rule.
Now you are yapping about trying to say "if I like it, its good, as I am the audience and people should do what I like" but without saying "I" just saying audience, which falls apart the moment you didn't really make a poll or anything and are just giving your opinion and an example of a cyoa.
With that logic I could say long cyoas are way more popular because OR is 100x more popular than Lusus Naturae and OR its an ocean of words.
>>

You are saying that preference for low wordcount (for the text of one option - which is distinct from the wordcount/length of the cyoa as a whole) is problematic and readers with such preference need to change their preferences. I am saying that preferences are more static than the content of the cyoa, and while preferences are not wholly static, you cannot discuss changes to preferences in the same terms as changes to the content of the cyoa.
OR is exceptionally high-quality. It's common sense that if something is high quality, you want more of it, and if something is lower quality, then you want less. Within cyoas, this applies most straightforwardly to the length of the cyoa. If you had taken 10 seconds to think about it, you would've realized this yourself.
>>
>>97124411
>You are saying that preference for low wordcount is problematic and readers with such preference need to change their preferences
No. I am calling you out acting like Vox Populi when its your opinion.
>OR is exceptionally high-quality. It's common sense that if something is high quality, you want more of it, and if something is lower quality, then you want less. Within cyoas, this applies most straightforwardly to the length of the cyoa. If you had taken 10 seconds to think about it, you would've realized this yourself.
now you add another arbitrary rule where a cyoa has to become longer because of "quality". Weren't you talking about short descriptions using a popular cyoa and saying authors should copy it to become popular? you should have used a short cyoa without quality then that got popular.
I don't think talking with you is worth it. You are full up your own ass like you are any authority within this. The moment you tried to talk back by assuming I was the author and telling me to make good cyoas you showed your true colors, you are just trying to impose your taste, not have a conversation. Have a nice day.
>>
>>97123931
That's my only real cyoa, and maybe I will make something else but it will have to be shorter because of technical limitations. Or I just do one page at a time.

>>
>>97124437
>No. I am calling you out acting like Vox Populi when its your opinion.
Wrong. You are saying that preference for low wordcount is problematic and readers with such preference need to change their preferences. Considering changes to reader preferences and changes to a (potential) cyoa the same thing is insane.
>now you add another arbitrary rule where a cyoa has to become longer because of "quality".
And now you are saying that any discussion of what might be good or bad in a cyoa should be considered problematic because it's "rules". It is important for people to discuss what is good and bad communally, and even more so it is important for a person to think through what is good and bad internally, or otherwise there can be no comprehension and improvement.
>Weren't you talking about short descriptions using a popular cyoa and saying authors should copy it to become popular?
Yes!
>you should have used a short cyoa without quality then that got popular.
Are you saying Lusus Naturae is as high quality as OR? It's clearly not, it's quite amateurish, for example the first page is in fuckhuge font for some reason. This is not to dunk on it, of course OR is a high bar to compare to. And yet LN gets a lot of basics right that many otherwise high-quality cyoas do not.
>I don't think talking with you is worth it. You are full up your own ass like you are any authority within this. The moment you tried to talk back by assuming I was the author and telling me to make good cyoas you showed your true colors, you are just trying to impose your taste, not have a conversation. It's you who is claiming to be some kind of supreme authority and that everyone who disagrees with you is imposing "rules", while your opinion is the truth by default.

>Race
Human. Hybrid sounds good for the lore, but it does not really give much except maybe having a family somewhere. If Yuji is confirmed to not age for being an hybrid this choice would become way better.
With human I also can enter the jujutsu school to gain connections and its an easier life than being an hybrid without ID.
Curse is simply worse.
>Technique
My possible choices are Hell, Rain Dance, Spirit Sword, Laevatheinn, Green Seeds, Ice-Make and Belial. I think of all of these Belial is the best, but also the least fun.
Spirit Sword and Laevatheinn are the sword based techniques I like.
Green Seeds, Ice make, Rain Dance and Hell are techniques of generation something to attack with. Hell is out because of its weakness with light. Green seeds has great versality but its seed and terrain dependant, maybe the plants could create seeds? but the terrain fucks up if you have to fight without dirt near.

So its between Rain Dance and Ice Make, they are similar. I will say the difference I see. Rain Dance is less energy intensive, as a great part of the technique is using moisture from your surroundings, so its not 100% water you create, while Ice Make realistically uses ice you create 99.99% of the time unless you live in a place with snow. So Rain Dance should be less energy intensive.
Control wise Rain Dance also should be better. Controlling fluids > controlling solids. The examples of control of Rain Dance are also better than Ice Make.
Power wise Ice Make > Rain Dance. With the possible exception of Rain Dance having more penetration power with pressure water beams. Ice is solid so it should pack a better punch, even if technically water is denser.
Stationary power Ice Make > Rain Dance. Both can make construct, but Ice Make will stay for a while without your input.
Environment Rain Dance > Ice Make. There is water everywhere but a desert. Cities even far from a beach will have pipes with running water. While raining you win basically.

Read the narrator's description of Basilia. It talks about how Basilia used to have the narrator's job. Then look at the narrator's other comments, particularly the ones about how one of (you) is bad enough, and that she doesn't "really" hate (you). She would not have picked (you), given a choice, so someone else clearly did.

Then jump back to the original version of Blood Magic, which is still canon, and reflects the experience of earlier (you). Things are phrased differently, and there's no "save Basilia" quest.

Then jump back to the revised Blood Magic, and re-read the "save Basilia" quest. Not only does she seem to know/trust (you), she promises (you) secrets about (your) summoning and past loops. . .

****
As for the second message, I don't have the exact wording handy, but its an excerpt from the lyrics of "A Question of Heaven", just slightly reworked. Basically telling (you) why (you) should leave Basilia to doom.

...do you want cum?
>>
>>97124521
You should consider selfinserts and non-selfinserts separately here, maybe you're thinking of selfinsert builds in overly non-selfinsert terms?
For selfinserts that's like asking: why are you following your rational self-interest? But it's the author's duty to give selfinserts rewards and punishments to get them off their asses and do something. Unless he only wants non-selfinsert builds, but that's quite limiting, most anons tend towards selfinserting.
Also making a build is a planning process. And when planning things, people are more conscious of their goals and incentives and more rational about reaching them than when they're not in "planning mode".
>>
>>97124568
>Basically telling (you) why (you) should leave Basilia to doom.
Things like that would lead to saviorfags doubling down.
>>
>>97124580

>>
>>97124536
Versatility Rain Dance > Ice Make. Suffice to say, a liquid that can also behave like a solid is better than a solid that can't behave like a liquid.
Style Rain Dance > Ice Make. Controlling absurb amounts of water is more stylish than just controlling absurb amounts of ice.
Strength of their weakness Ice Make > Rain Dance. The weakness of Rain Dance is the constructs are not stationary without your input, so can damage allies without care. The weakness of Ice Make is part of the power, you are not fully inmune to cold and can even freeze your insides if pushed too much.

So I guess I pick Rain Dance.
>Extras
Massive Energy Output makes you one of the top fighters right out of the gate. Ryuu had the best output in history.
Immense Energy Quantity. And Yuta had the second best reserves that we know even beyond special grade curses.
Special Trait (superior physique) this plus output should solve the problem of close combat which would be the weakness of the technique. I imagine its Yuji body tier.
Specialist (Barrier). Domains are barriers, Domains decide your life in higher level fights, being good at domains saves your life.
Blessed by the Black Sparks. Blackflash is something that not only usually gives you the victory but makes you better for the rest of the fight and helps learning jujutsu. Yuji could do a domain expansion just after getting a technique thanks to landing enough of them.

Specialist (free, RCT). Too useful to not guarantee learning it.

Archenemy. It's several tough fights, but its not "they always will be stronger/equal" they will be a tough fight but you can have the edge, and the cyoa treats it like you have the upperhand. It's like my Mahito.
I pick Child of the Martial Way. It pairs very good with the stronger body, blackflashes and in general with Rain Dance

I am better Yuji except with 1 technique less (better than Blood). + output, + reserves, = body, = talent in h2h, blessed by blackflash. More barrier talent, more RCT talent.

I'm working on a cyoa that tries to encourage the player to be creative with their build, instead of just presenting them with options. For example, one power allows you to choose the ability of one animal, and it is up to the player if they want the flight of a falcon or the toughness of a cockroach or something else. I have some other cool ones but I don't want to spoil anything.

Does anyone have any ideas for additional powers?

Here information is key. Without knowing the technique you automatically win the majority of fights by default, as the enemy would directly kill you. But some enemies with specific techniques would counter and make it useless. A minion technique like Avicebron would not activate it in a meaningful way.
At the same time this technique can kill Sukuna. Its a coin toss from completely useless to auto win. RCt needed to prevent being limbess.

>Anti-Domain
Fascinating. Breaking everything down...

>Avicebron
>Shikigami
>Invincible Under the Sun (Guns)
>Natural Born Genius
>Immense Cursed Energy Quantity
>Specialist (Barrier, Anti-Domain)
I'm a 150 IQ genius that's a freak savant at using guns. My cursed energy reservoirs are retardedly huge and let me support my obsession with barriers and anti-domain techniques. Aside from that, my cursed technique of creating hand and eye golems lends me an immense range of tactical versatility. I'll wear a cowboy hat and use a lever-action rifle and handful of revolvers. In combat, I'll be setting up a complex maze of barriers and either grasping or inert hands, for maximum confusion, while I pepper my foes from a distance and wear them down enough for a hand trap to catch them off-guard.

My domain will be more of the same, and blend into my natural fighting style so subtly that many foes won't be able to tell where the maze ends and it begins. They'll assume I'm lining up another annoyance, only to get a bullet through their cerebellum while I dance from finger to finger. Or worse, pinched and crushed. From above, my eye golems will subtly feed me information on exactly where my enemies are in the maze so I can coordinate its shifting.

My shikigami will be a venomous snake coiled around my waist, disguised as a regular cursed belt. Anyone that gets into melee had better watch out. I hope not to get into melee with anyone too ridiculous, but that's what the levitating concrete openhands and punches are for. I will be a rogue sorcerer and use my powers to enrich myself and undermine institutions I despise. Mostly banks.

I'll be the nemesis of any anon who believes that the almighty dollar, or yen, this is japan, supersedes man's right to take for himself what he needs.
>>

Avicebron is quite strong, though my own way of using it subverts the minion component somewhat in favour of more radical battlefield control. The eye lasers in concert with inescapable barriers will be my trump card.

>>97126457
You dare challenge the greatest gunner this archipelago has ever seen? I have to hand it to you, mutie, you've got stones. Between my sprawl of barriers and hands, and your time trickery, any fight between us will rapidly escalate into a complicated mess that makes no sense to anyone watching. I think if I can keep my distance, likely via hand tossing, long enough to proc my domain I may be able to catch you off-guard and score a hail of sure-hit bullets. Otherwise, you could anticipate where I'm going, knock me into delayed time, and then I'd be grilled to ashes. It would be an interesting fight for the future of a random bank I spontaneously tried to dismantle, if nothing else.

More seriously, it's a pretty good result. It adds to survivability significantly, and minion/trap CTs don't seem common. While I doubt that I will face Sukuna, it would be a very funny result if he gets eaten by a random cat.

My special trait is that my cursed energy is light, being faster but no more forceful. That should help me to run away whenever shit hits the fan.

Aromage is such a hackneyed author that the implications must be intentional and it is time to learn some more about Ultimate Gods of jobbing.
Elder Godhood is only possible from a fluent understanding of the Godscript, which an Ultimate God is explicitly able to ignore.
>Ultimate
>Their education system barely has the funds to teach them past a kindergartener level of English.
It also says that a conversation in fluent Extrival is impossible for anybody that isn't at least Primordial rank, not that Ultimate God powerscaling means much, but that does explicitly mean that they have enough strength to matter to an Ultimate God build. This is consistent between both CYOAs, gods beneath that rank need to be worshipped for their survival and growth, which is only noted for inferior Mametian gods in the OR

Primordials are ridiculously rare, with a combined population of mere thousands in undecillions of years.
Unless they are "Elder" Gods, of which one was born less than a thousand years ago. If we conservatively assume that another has been born since, that means that one comes every 500 years. Two of them want it to be even faster, in their own ways, and they're learning how to achieve it.
Primordials are still able to threaten Pleroma Ultimate Gods, even a Celestial is able to threaten the player at Pleroma age with enough allies and intelligence (The King in Yellow). This is also consistent with Celestial level characters being a meaningful threat to the Elder Gods by cleverly using Godscript/Extrival against them.
Someone will notice that O.R. is planetary level and Extrival is galactic level. Of course it's locally weak! They're Extrival masters who built a school for others, of course they know how to cushion it against being blown up by a single word. Those safeguards are gone when fighting in a different plane of existence.
Now since we have proof that both CYOAs allow characters to overcome a rank difference of two levels, by narrative fiat, this means that Ultimate Jobbers can job to planetary level gods from a different CYOA.

Because Outer Reincarnation lets you become a Lesser or Elder God in theory, this also means that Ultimate God builds lose to Outer Reincarnation ones.

Broader with more detail on the variants. Splitting it too much would require a shitton of work just to prevent bloat and repetition, and may not even make it better. I have never seen narrower elements used well in a cyoa except as a write-in option (eg, Wizard CYOA).

Both sound reasoning. I will keep the twelve variants as broad, then. They're derived from combinations of the four classic elements, with one as the structure (over) and the other as augment (under). They're listed in order as over+under. This is the current spread:

>Earth+Water = Mud
>Earth+Air = Dust
>Earth+Fire = Magma
>Water+Earth = Ooze
>Water+Air = Frost
>Water+Fire = Oil
>Air+Earth = Pressure
>Air+Water = Fog

>Fire+Earth = Glass
>Fire+Water = Steam
>Fire+Air = Lightning

You'll have an affinity for one of these as a rare hybrid elementalist. Most of the elements have a couple of specific things they do far better than the others, and some weaknesses. Fog for example is unmatched for area-of-effect and quick and cheap to use, but can't do much damage outside of misdirection or at higher skill, some blunt force. Magma is the opposite, and is narrow, slow, and exhausting to use but insanely lethal. Your philosophy will change up how you use your elements, potentially by summoning minions, getting superior melee or range, or even gaining the use of your source elements. I hope to have a stupid amount of variety.

Yea, that's doable.

I am surprised people liked the angel the most, I was rather partial to the middle one, the Marika statue gave the title a nice "framing" I felt.

2 < 1 < 3
Two is a monument or idol, suggesting some kind of organized belief system behind its existence.
One is an angel, not a paladin. You're trying to be different from that other thing.
Three looks like a horribly defective AI generated person even though it's some kind of monument. This wouldn't be a problem if you specifically rearranged the title text to fix it.

>the Paladin CYOA real and anon wasn't just baiting for discussion
By all that is righteous and pure, I am hyped.

You should try to make all the resulting elements cool and distinct. Ooze is uncool for example, how about ink instead? And smoke/steam/fog are too similar, maybe air+fire could be star and fire+air could be sun?
>>
>>97128818
I also like the marika statue, gives the feeling of you trying to rebuild something that has lost it´s, radiance.

Kek
>>
>>97128796
I recommend duplicating the text outline and gaussian blurring the copy.

>>97128818
It doesn't particularly evoke the imagery of a paladin. Plus, the angel's hair leaves a less light background for the title.
>>
>>97128818
The marika statue is pleasing and cool, to me, but I used to be obsessed with Elden Ring. For an anon that wasn't aware of the background it is a little more generic than the angel, which immediately draws the paladin association.
>>
>>97128796
Middle for me. It resonates the most with the "equally shallow/flawed effigy of LIGHT INDOMITABLE" concept.
>>
>>97128833
The current script is 19,000 words and about 50-70% done (I need to finish the allies (units), companions and then quests, although with the exception of companions none of these should take very long). I was lying about none of it.

>>97128844
>It doesn't particularly evoke the imagery of a paladin
Its celestial grace and beauty bestowing favour on a knight. But youre right about the hair, it's rather cluttered and messy (as is the image in general imo).

For all the countless hours I've spent on these imagination games, I can't recall a dream about them. Or about the community. First person media like FPS games is probably the most impactful on dreams, since we see dreams in first person?

This one might work nicely, in particular I like how the title lines up with the light in the image. But it might also be kind of boring.
>>
>>97128796
Middle. It's the most readable. Image isn't obscured or distracts from the text and it's a lot more thematic than the other two.
>>
>>97128899
this ones pretty soulful, yeah
>>
>>97128899
This is way better than the others. Not only does the light line up but you could easily say that thing is the Light Indomitable that's empowering you or whatever.

This one is the best. Actually RADIANT.

>You should try to make all the resulting elements cool and distinct.
My biggest goal is to give all the elements a variety of possible uses, and to be distinct, aye.
>Ooze is uncool for example, how about ink instead?
I did consider Ink as an element, but Ooze won out, partly as I like swamps, mostly as it has more associations. Poison, acid, slimes, and for gear-users and deviants, lubricant all falls under it, whereas Ink is largely scholarly and has the cephalopod association, which wouldn't be much use for the survival-heavy situation you're in.
>And smoke/steam/fog are too similar,
I've considered this for a while. My reasoning is that they all have the structure of Air, but an augment, so the subelement would take the shape of Air while having qualities of the other. Steam is hot while Fog is wet, and Pressure is solid like Earth while being intangible like Air. Smoke is similar to them but has different tactical usages and the potential for prophetic visions.
>maybe air+fire could be star and fire+air could be sun?
Maybe, astral magic is already under non-elemental arcane magic, which you can get access to so I'm a bit hesitant to include the celestial bodies in the elemental variants. I don't want to sound dismissive, these are interesting takes and I am wide-open to suggestions if you or any other anons have any. For skills or companions you would like to see represented as well, multi-classing is going to be, to an extent, built into the framework.
>>
>>97128899
This one is iconic, it would be my heavy recommendation.
>>
>>97128943
The lube bit also applies to Oil but you can set Oil on fire and use it to fuel things, whereas Ooze can't.

I'm so focused on making my OC that I don't even know who these people are, but I can say that drawbacks are proving one of the more challenging parts of my OC so far! Just imagining the 10 I have now and making sure they matched the theme and mood of my CYOA was rough. Meanwhile the boon ideas just keep coming

Do a gold and black overlay on the text outline and draw some light rays emmiting from radiant on the top player with overlay blend mode

That's a good point, but maybe replace it with poison or acid then? Ooze just feels wrong and lame and silly.
