Damn, that sack full of mangoes got fucked up when the train hit it

I like terrain, its hard to do though and i mostly play online so im not sure if tokeb and mapmaking would even count as a substitute there. I guess i could fire up blender and run it in TTS, but i think my friends would kill me if i expected them to install or update mod pack every week, and i'd need a month of modeling for each week of game

>How important is the terrain in a TTRPG?
Ideally very important. The characters should have to deal with terrain and environment on an ongoing basis, and feel free to insert aspects appropriate for the milieu, like barrels or crates in a warehouse, or trees in a forest, and use them as they see fit, but the GM should feel equally free to insert creeks and brooks that impede movement or force rolls when running, or clanking metal platforms or stairs that make stealth harder in a steel mill, or rotten wood in an abandoned house.

Why? Your modern art(?) has nothing to do with the topic.

It's the base for a sacrificial temple.

SOVL
I don't think terrain is all that important but I always appreciate GM/Players making something cool on their own and not just buying or 3D-printing (which is still cool though).

A tacmap or graph paper is really all I need and I'll sketch the key details. Having more complex terrain is always a fun idea, but the question of how much time and storage it would take combined with just how rarely I would use some of it just makes it not worth it to me. I have bought/made/printed models for players and painted them for games which is always a thing I like doing. However, I think terrain is always nice to see and respect the effort.

This right here is the perfect sample, the quintessence of SOVL - it looks awful, but you can tell it was made with serious earnest effort.

It's not that bad...
