Obvious answer but Forsaken (for kitbashing)
>>97164271>tqNiche answer: The knights of the blazing sun upgrade kit.
>>97164271>TQThe old metal longbeard and ironbreakers and their associates commands and lords
>>97164271I think it's impressively retarded that they didn't bring back all the kits they couldsavage orcs, savage boar riders, forsaken, warshrine, are all very weird omissions, and they could have definitely brought back some older kits and reintroduced them as new units, say for example they dug up the 6th ed state troopers and told you that's a very specific mercenary regiment or what you're meant to use for veteran state troopers, it would be perfect.for what concerns stuff outside of plastic, I think restoring the old forge world galrauch should be a priority also ariel, there's no longer an excuse for keeping her out since tow as a range gave all up pretences of sticking to one style or time period for its miniatures, considering all the oldschool models that have been brought up again like ogres and dwarfs.
>>97164284>>97164438Given how good Forsaken were out of the gate in TOW it really is weird that GW didn't also brought back the kit for them. Definitely seems like a missed business opportunity to my ignorant ass. The kit itself was pretty damn great for conversions too which would have made it an ideal "sneak commercial" to suggest that people use for kitbashing AJ specific units, aswell as just for mark specific models in general. I still use bits from it from time to time. As for the Warshrine I still think that we'll see it get a rerelease once they get around to making actual mono-god AJ's in a couple of years or so. Is it still availible as an AoS purchase?

>>97164740Okay, but you now need to tell me how to best go about greenstuffing a flayed man for the standard bearer. I'm struggling especially with making the face which seems like it would be rather easy with the right little trick up ones sleeve.
>>97164730I'm wondering if the original molds were fucked so this whole rumored chaos refresh is a sort of package deal. I know it won't happen because nuGW CADslop but imagine if there was a mutations sprue like the old days to mix with the new sculpts.
>>97164784The fact that they haven't even released seperately purchaseable god specific mutation sprues for 40K suggests that such things isn't of interest to them. I wonder if there's some research that suggests it would take away winnings from other types of god-specific models, but even so it seems like it would be the sort of thing they could tailor towards a win-win situation by making it designed to be instantly kitbashable with specific the god-aligned models rather than have it be a more generic fit.
>>97164730the forsaken sold terribly and people were very vocal about disliking the sculpts, but ultimately it's purely a factory floor decision, they were probably allocated about 8-10 kits per army or something.
>>97164730It's weird because forsaken never made the jump to aos either, despite being a fairly recent sculpt, I wanna say late 7th or esrly 8th?Warshrine isn't in aos anymore, no.
>>97164768I might aswell also ask you dinguses whether or not I should add more nurglings to this standard bearer. I'm personally a bit undecided but I guess it could be fun to have one swinging from a bit of the impaled man's gut. Since the idea is to have the nurgling already in the imagine wielding the impaled man's looted sword I'm also thinking that a potential other nurgling would be in someway rocking his broken shield.
>>97164740Posted my BS last thread, he's half base coated now though. Zog off goatboyz!
>>97164821Ah, yeah with that in mind the decision seems quite prudent. I reckon we'll eventually see new models for them though. However, it seems more than unlikely to me that they would be making a single kit that's customizeable enough to include enough bits to represent a full unit of whatever mark you fancy. I could plausibly see them release mark specific kits for them though, albeit possibly not for every availible mark.
>>97164852Love the monochrome color scheme
>>97164827>Warshrine isn't in aos anymore, no.Well that's promising!
>>97164437That would be great.
>>97164730>>97164827the forsaken kit was released in 8th, the rules were first added in 7th, but they were reviled at launch because the kit was one of the first of its kind to reach 4€ per infantry model (and the rules weren't particularly good either), their potential for conversions was never actually used due to thatbut nowadays that price point is almost commonplace, if not in tow then in other systems

>>97165726Nah, they should have parry and fight in extra rank, would go a long way to deal with their issues. I also think that templates should autohit and volley fire should permit the full second rank to fire.
>Empire>Undead >Orcs and Goblins>High Elves >SkavenUnironically, besides these five, it seems like all the others are just filler. These are the quintessential Warhammer Fantasy™ experience. You could honestly distill it even further to just the first three, and one could argue even the first two. It's weird to me to see beastmen in particular get a lot of love here on /tg/ because they seem to be especially irrelevant in the whf world. What should be a single side unit in a chaos army is expanded to be its own army. To me this seems like a cheap gimmick to sell more models. Lizard men are equally bad but I'll give them a pass because at least they have sovl
>>97165874Beastmen are the red-headed stepchildren of chaos, ignored by their creators and hated by everyone else, including themselves. They're a great NPC faction, a constant low-level threat that keeps empire from progressing and developing.

>>97165874no, anon, high elves and skaven aren't essentialundead are an essential part of fantasy wargaming, so are orcs&goblins, and then we have the conversions fodders being chaos and not!historical humans.high elves aren't any more essential than wood elves or dark elves or dwarfs, and the utility of skaven is vastly outmatched by the one of goblins, skaven are uniquely warhammer, but aren't essential to it.and I say this as someone who doesn't collect any of the factions that would fall into the essentials either.beastmen are getting love because they've been underdogs all their existence and because they happen to have had an immediately existing playerbase that had to move to tow from aos, or at least a lot of shit on the second hand market, including boxed deals.
>>97165874I dont care for the empire.
>>97166025Don't forget that the beastmen also have horrendously overpowered rules at the moment.

>>97166082I'm not defending the analogy between Germanic tribes and Beastmen, since it's retarded and very Romano-centric, but I would say the battle between Ariovistus and Caesar shows that there were somewhat pitched battles between these two types of forces. Sure, the Romans probably had a few more points there (not only larger numbers, but higher quality troops in general as well), but still...>>97165874>Not including Chaos as one of the essentialsI don't know, anon, I think you're just trying to have a hot take/be contrarian.

>>97166227>secondaries leave and go pollute 40kfinally some good news
>>97166227This has been the case since the early 90s anon
>>97166251Well you gave some incorrect analysis of Caesars battle against Ariovistus. First, we know Caesar was inclined to exaggerate the number of enemies, but the Suebi almost certainly outnumbered the Romans. The Suebi we able to completely surround the Roman camps and this was one of the only times in the Gallic Wars than many of the Roman troops and junior officers were fearful they were going to get crushed. Secondly, this battle wasnt a traditional pitched battle at all. A large force completely surrounded a smaller force and had no intention of laying active siege or fighting, they were simply hoping to starve the Romans out. Caesar made several attempt to get Ariovistus to attack his position but he never did. The only reason a battle occured it because Caesar left his little camp and forced the Germans to fight him, and then he proceeded to beat the brakes off of them. It was a completely one sided fight, one of Caesars most one sided, despite the massive disadvantages stacked against the Romans.

after almost 6 months to the day, my beastmen MTO is on its way
>>97166082This is true and it does point out how poorly the rules are equipped to portray asymmetric battles in universe. Historicals have lots of rulesets that specifically address the imbalances of the Zulus, Gauls, etc. but make them still fun to play with an equivalent chance of winning. If Warhammer wants to have shit like beastmen there should be similar mechanisms representing asymmetric forces instead of forcing the implausible absurdity of goatmen fighting shoulder to shoulder in discipled ranks
How do I position Lightning Cannons?Do I accept I'm shooting my own ranks in an attempt to reach the enemy?
>>97166832Yes, that's kind of the Skaven way. Clan rats are supposed to be expendable bodies that fall to your own fire just as much as to the enemy's.
>>97166517its miles better than the wyvern model they actually released.

I have old Battle of Skull Pass and Blood Island or whatever was the name of the one featuring skavens and HEs. Now, skaven aren't back in the game yet, but what's the cheapo way to turn the other 3 into functional armies?
>>97167435buy more models for them second hand, or 3d print them or whatever, then pain them.I don't understand what you mean? Obviously the way to turn them into functional armies is to have enough models, base them, and paint them.

>>97166227This was pretty much a given since 11th edition 40k is most likely a few months out and GW can’t comprehend hyping one systems while supporting the others. It’s gotten to the point that the community site will have every article be about a new release for weeks on end even once they have ran out of shit to say. When heresy had some new plastic knights coming out a few years back around a dozen articles taking about how cool and strong they are flooded the site.Production will also probably go to shit since GW will want to make three different versions of the starter box again
Hello>currently playing 4ed warhammer fantasy rp>got engineer dwarf character>im rp as Charles bronson from death wish movies frenchise>no one has an ideai have a question if someone can tell me, as engineer i have Tinkerer and Artist talents, and i cant find explenation for dummies of what exacly they do.Rn i think that tinkerer work that i can fix anything without needed skills like i can attemt to fix sword without any smith skills. Correct me if im wrong on this. And i have no idea what artist does, do i have to chose skill like drawing, sculpting or i can use them all? And to two above how to add them to the skill rolls?
>>97165874In essence the Empire is the only central character, our protagonist faction. Everyone else exists to be the villains (or allies) of the week that will inevitably get crushed by her forces. Most other armies are okay, but we could get rid of the High Elves, the lizardmen, the Cathayans and maybe the Dark Elves. Wood Elves are fine since they can pop up as the neanderthals that freak out whenever noble foresters of the Empire clear our a bit of green. Dark Elves might pop up for cowardly raids (which they inevitably will always lose) but I don't think they ought to appear that often. Their playerbase luckily doesn't seem that large though.Oh yeah, Chaos Dwarfs don't fit either, but they're too short to be included in TOW anyways.

>>97168431chaos, focusing on knights jousting triad
>>97168431What about Orcs & Goblins? Bretonnia and VC are great armies but don't cover the full spectrum of combined arms the same way that O&G do.
i would love to have a 2nd army, especially as afaik none of my wargaming friends are collecting TOW, but i am running out of space as is. i should just sell some of my 40k shit since i don't particularly like 40k but whenever i look at the models i kind of end up liking them again and not wanting to part with them.

>>97168577I mean how much space does an army really take up, you could have like 10 of the things in a single file closet. Unless you're living in a dorm or something a second army shouldn't fuck you over, space-wise.
>>97168577>i should just sell some of my 40k shit since i don't particularly like 40k but whenever i look at the models i kind of end up liking them again and not wanting to part with themI wish I realized this sooner. Instead I spent a lot of money on a 40k army all at once that I find no desire to finish after playing a few games of 10th. I assumed it would be like Fantasy where I would build up my guys, then play/paint over time. But playing 40k made me lose interest. So I hold onto the DG now in case 11th is good but otherwise they collect dust.
>>97168949Oh great nevermind then
>>97168039There is really not much more to it.If your character sees an emblem of some foreign city, he can quickly draw it accurately, and you can argue. You can then use it in your campaign to ask for information, instead of trying to explain it for dummies. The Talent "Artistic" also automatically gives you the skill Trade (Artist) for any career that you enter, including your engineer. That's the one you can use for rolls. Thanks to Tinker, you can use your skill Trade (Engineer) for pretty much any repairing activity. Even if it's something outside of the usual sphere of engineering.

>>97169485Nta but I do that sometimes. Space is finite, and I'm mostly in it for the hobby, not the games. I have 12 armies, so when I want a new one to work for a few years, something else has to go. That's just part of collecting warhammer for 20+ years. Some armies I'll keep forever, but others are more transient. A passing interest, I'll paint it up and enjoy it for a summer or two and then it will find a new home with someone who will hopefully enjoy it more than I did and give another hobbyist a cheaper start on their collection. I'll often buy used as well and attempt to breathe new life into an old collection.
>>97169485selling armies makes the hobby self perpetuating and is the best way to get what you want from the game. Plus it is a great motivator to paint and complete your army just to up it's value. I've gone from one TOW army (TK), sold it and used proceeds to buy two armies (Beasts and Empire) and will probably sell the beasts and pick up Kislev and another faction next.
