>>97149609Beastmen vs Orcs with all new sculpts except the Orcs are fucking shit
i have no issues with beastmen but don't go after my orcs, motherfucker. i don't mind you fuckers and i nearly started a beastman army when they were the only oldschool models left in age of shitmar. i didn't start collecting until 2020 because that was when i finally had disposable income to waste on toys but i've always liked warhammer fantasy and always liked orcs, but settled for 40k orks to collect until TOW came back and i could finally collect the actually good orcs.but you beastniggers are alright, just don't go after my orcs. we should be united by our love of rape and murder of humans.
Hi guys, completely new player here. I started collecting the Beastmen!!! They were always my favorite of the most iconic Warhammer Fantasy characters!!! Well, wish me luck! I hope to see you on the field of battle one day! Peace out.

Postan again for feedback. Have made some changes since, but want to get as much as I can before committing to models beyond boyz, blorcs and boars
>>97149826You know exactly what was meant. If using that logic then every single faction in the game is humanoid, which is perhaps a flaw with the label but there's no need to be pedantic. And yes bugmen should be on the list, they of course are in the Cringe category.
>>97149857>You know exactly what was meant.Yes, hypocrisy.Go join the bugmen, you.
>>97149851I'd give those Blorcs some weapons, and stick the BSB's banner on them while giving the latter (if he's meant to join them) the War Banner aswell as some magical protection. If you wanna min/max a bit there's probably a better unit size for your regular orcs than 30 as you don't get the full benefit of rounding off the volley number. You'd might want to also give them Da Spider Banner and the unit champion the hat that doesn't make them impetious.Don't forget that chariots can be fun!
>>97149892>benefit of rounding off the valley numberWhat do you mean by this anon? Thanks for the remaining advice. Think I've gone back to throwing spears for that blob thinking about it
>>97149679This is great, it's giving me inspiration for what to put on my Orc BSB. /wfg/ beasts vs boys faction war when?>>97149851Give weapons to the BlOrcs. Only half+1 need shields to give the whole unit the shield save at range. Get some cheap units to threaten at range and to act as chaff. While the orc warboss with Porko's IS fun (I love that fucking item), I think he probably does less than just getting a pair of boar chariots, which would give you more flexibility. The Boar boys are going to crush almost anything they charge anyway, so he's a bit superficial against all but the hardest targets. The only disagreement I have with >>97149892 is that there are enough BlOrcs around to stop your boys being impetuous anyways, as you really want them advancing, even with bows, which are more there for utility than to be a shooting block every turn in most matchups.
can i make great weapons work for blorcs, i think they look cooler than double choppas
>>97149935Yes, Great Weapons are fantastic. 2 choppas just doesn't pump out the same amount of damage against anything but the squishiest enemies.
>>97149942thanks for the advice and good to hear, ill build half shields and half great weapons when i get a box then
>>97149927Warbows have a special rule called Volley Fire that lets half of each rank behind the front row also shoot. When deciding what counts as half you round up the number meaning that a row of 5 orcs with warbows can Volley Fire as many shots as a row of 6 since their half both count as 3.
I hope James does something about the weapon balance since I can't really think of any reason I wouldn't take a Great Weapon over any other choice, if it is a choice. Great Weapon is too much of an auto pick.
>>97150096Flails be flailingShields be boardingAdditional hand weapons be crazy
>>97150146None of these are the correct choice if you can also take a Great Weapon. The +2 strength is too much of a buff. Hand weapons is the shittest option out of these all even if you can get Frenzy for even more attack rolls. You also forgot Halberds, which isn't surprising. The only Halberd worth a damn is the Dread variant since it has fight in extra rank.

The ability to freely include allies as part of your army (from a limited list of "compatible" factions) would make it much better. Of course, we'd have broken combos, but nobody should care about catering to tourneyfags. I want to include a single unit of Shadow Warriors, led by a unit champion, in my Lizardmen army. I want to include a couple of units of State Troops in my VC army. Bretonnian Lance a WE army, or some Longbeards in an Empire army.
>>97152359This is gay.
>>97152364If doing allies is gay then I'm the biggest queer on earth
>>97152379sounds like you're a second edition aos refugee then.
>>97150096Halberds should have fight in extra rank. You should be able to fire pistols in melee too (we've historical sources talking about pistol-armed cavalry being the most dangerous at that range because of the lethality of their firearms).
>>97152267GW doing a second starter set in a single edition seems unlikely
>>97152396Maybe not, maybe it would be too hard to rebalance. But James officializing it in some sort of way would at least make it easier for people to introduce it to their group of friends without them thinking you're trying to powergame. It's hard enough introducing things like the Renegade changes or the Renegade Comp system.>>97152402I've literally never played a game of Smegmar in my life, never will.
>>97152267>>97152307I think wood elves and tomb kings are one of the weirdest matchups possible, they just cannot look like they belong to one battlefield. One or the other has to play the part of the fish out of water.
>>97152359Unfortunately that's not how the ally rules work and for once it's not the tourneyfags' fault. When you want to bring allies, you have to treat them as a separate army & follow all the necessary rules for fielding an army. So, 25% core requirement, 1 character, but you are allowed to only bring 1 non-character unit instead of 3. If you want to blame someone for taking allies not being good/viable, blame the writers.
>>97152359imagine wanting to have fun and thinking you need a corpo-borpo's permission to do it.

I'm trying to understand how a unit with as many characters as its entire fighting rank is wide plays. Does the entire command group get pushed to the second rank? If the enemy doesn't direct attacks against models they are in base contact with do you still just remove the regular infantry as casualties when the enemy succeeds at their wound rolls? Is this even possible? I'm not quite sure how the rules Not Enough Room and Too Many Characters interact with each other.

>>97154206'Eavy metal looks kind of bad in person, so I don't like painting it. I prefer layering and cleanliness with not too extreme edge highlights. I am currently working on a High Elf army and am pretty happy about them. There is also my Wood Elf army, but they were painted with a year of experience between some of the modles in it. Here is picture of my unit of Wildwood Rangers, who are finished by now.
>>97154013>>97153896so as far as my reading of it, the game does not consider adjacent to the front rank (as in the character is standing just to side of the unit on its flank) as actually being part of the front rank. per the rules, the front rank is capped at a max number of characters equal to other models in the front rank, unless its a single rank unit n which case anything goes.but, lets say you have a 2x5 unit with a front rank of 2 models and 3 characters join the unit. you can have one character in the front rank, then the unit champion, then the standard and musician would be pushed to the second rank. then you could have characters 2 and 3 adjacent to the front rank on its flanks. it says that any characters which cannot fit in or adjacent to the front rank go to the rear rank, so lets say you reform that unit into 1x10 and now the front rank is only a single man for arguments sake. you cant have any characters in the front rank, but you can have one adjacent to it on either side, so you get characters 1 and 2 on the flanks, the champion in front and then musician and standard in ranks 2 and 3 single file, and then the 3rd character with no room would go to the back. you can have a character next to a character if the first character is actually part of the front rank, but you cant have a character adjacent to the front rank and then another character adjacent to them even further off, as they would not then be adjacent to any rank and thus illegal (though they could stand there as their own separate unit)since casualties are removed from the rear rank, i dont think its possible to have a unit with only characters available to allocate to in the front rank, though you would need to keep track of step ups, and i think a character in the rear rank who then finds themselves alone due to removed casualties would just step up as well.
I also tried some harder edge highlights on my Spellsinger

>>97154283Hey, thanks. The way you laid it out makes sense. I'll need to revise my plan. I was thinking of making a brick of goblin bosses since they are cheap as shit but it seems there are restrictions. And, to be honest, good and reasonable ones.
>>97154505yes, the Jade College even has a Eugenics program going on to make more wizards
>>97149609Where is the model is the paladin on foot on the far left from? I recognize him from that old art piece with the Bret Lord fighting a giant Norscan on top of a lighthouse.
What if tomorrow they announced totar war Warhammer The Old World?
>>97154505 This is from AI.In the Warhammer Fantasy setting (part of the "Empire of Man"), full Colleges of Magic members (Magisters) can have families, but it's complex; apprentices face strict rules, often needing decades to qualify, and while marriage isn't forbidden for all magic users, the intense, often secretive nature of wizard life makes traditional family life challenging, though some notable wizards have had children, showing it's possible but not typical for everyone in the ranks. Key Points for Colleges of Magic & Families:Apprentices (Initiates): Training is intense and long (decades), often demanding monastic devotion, making family life difficult, but some lore suggests temporary relationships might occur, just not full marriages until becoming a Magister.Magisters (Master Wizards): Once fully qualified, rules loosen. Marriage and children are possible, but their focus remains on magic and the Empire, with many remaining solitary or having complex relationships. The Grey College (Shadows): Known for secrecy, their members might avoid family, but it's not a strict ban.The Celestial College (Heavens): Focuses on prophecy; members often keep to themselves but aren't necessarily celibate.Notable Examples: Some famous wizards, like Teclis (High Elf, but influential), have connections, and within the human Empire, characters like Balthasar Gelt (though a bit ambiguous) suggest some form of personal life, even if not traditional families. In essence, it's not a universal "yes" or "no," but a spectrum – apprentices are restricted, while full wizards can, but often don't, due to lifestyle, duty, and the secretive nature of their craft within the volatile Warhammer setting.
>>97154544you could still do a ball of goblin bosses, you'd just need a unit attached. considering 20 goblins is like the cost of a single boss they're so cheap its not really a big ask, unless for some reason you wanted a really dense small footprint of characters with no extra dudes hanging around, in which case you could still quite a few goblin bosses on or adjactent to a fairly minimum sized unit.

>>97157060Previously the wolves of the sea had the exploit of joining characters to skin wolf units to have them benefit from their mutations, I hope this exploit has been now closed, as I believe it was against the intent of the rules.

I posted on here last week about working on an insectoid race from an Oceania equivalent. I have fleshed out some of the lore and unit list but one area I haven't made a decision on is the weapons. Traditional cultures in that area worked bone, wood, jade etc and it makes sense to fold in insect stings/venoms in some way, but I wonder if this is stepping on the toes of Lizardmen aesthetics or if there's a more interesting and thematic way to do it. For additional context their armour (besides natural chitin hides) is spider silk woven into a sort of gambeson, and heavy armour layers this with laminate plates from spider silk and tree resin
i like the design of the new marauders, but i genuinely believe cad is an inferior way to sculpt miniatures.the detail on the hair, fur and chainmail takes a hit and ends up being too stylized (anime/mmo) compared to handsculpts. the apparent thickness, and the texture of the robes/cloth scraps is also noticeably and worse than older metal minis imo
>>97158076I dont like them at all. should have been kurgan inspried. this shits just gay.
>>97158054>bone, wood, jade etc and it makes sense to fold in insect stings/venoms in some way, but I wonder if this is stepping on the toes of Lizardmen aestheticsstyle matters more than substance here: lizard weapons are vaguely reminiscent of precolumbian ones, but they're way more solidly constructed on a closer inspection, they don't read as the result of a tribal society, so you should feel free to have toothed weapons and such
Could a bretonian knight be blackmailed by a chaos lord/entity and not be corrupted at the end?

>>97159442Is he supposed to be cross eyed?
>>97159594The worst thing is that GW can make decent painting and Modelling guides, but only for MESBG.
>>97159488I honestly have zero idea They are only doing this shit for the old head systems, but that is populated by people who know better then to singularly rely on citadel paints and at least with Heresy 3rd a lot of the long term guys have dipped out of that edition. So I guess this is meant to some how get newfags to buy a dozen paints for basic infantry models.
This is sort of a nitpick but to me it just shows a hilarious lack of professionalism on GW's part, but the paint guides on the TOW boxes and the paint guides in the official citadel color painting app use completely different paints for the models. I'm not really sure how they are supposed to serve a new hobbyist if they come in and see the company recommend two completely different paint schemes.
>>97159633>>97159629I am a very mediocre painter and I basically rely on copying tutorials to get serviceable results and I never follow GW tutorials. Always youtube tutorials as there is more variety in end results AND I don't really like the contemporary Eavy Metal style.
>>97159488>>97159629I've come across a fair few guys that genuinely only use GW tutorials and cannot fathom buying different paints. Even in my local store a few of the guys religiously only buy citadel paints, even though they have ready access to lots of other paints in that store. But if GW wants to scam retards into buying mediocre paints sealed in horrible bottles I'd just let them. Can't take the retardation out of a retard, after all, and they'll just smash their head against another scam.(a little like why you don't give alcoholic natives money)

>>97159786If it was some random hobbyist posting of a social media I wouldn’t really care. This is GW’s team trying to sell you a product and show off what you can do with it. most of the stuff in the article is fine if bland, but it suggest a level of not giving a shit to let a model that poorly painted in to a advertisement. Imagine a fitness company showing you what it’s community has done with this program and they randomly show you a bunch of people who lost a little weight and a guy who gained an extra 30 pounds and is now diabetic. Do you give that little to a shit about your own product?
I don't mean to derail the true topic of the thread but Dark Omen has finally been rereleased on GOG. Thought some of you might be interested.
Does anyone know where to look for physical army books? Trying to find the 8th edition army book for wood elves but I’m not gonna pay $80-90 for it.
Assuming the marauders update is a sign of how things are gonna go; do you think it’s everyone’s chaff getting updated or is it the worst looking sculpts of your faction getting updated?

>>97159883Periodically stalking eBay isn’t a bad idea. All the stuff up right now is 80-100USD but just looking at the sold items finds the book coming up at 60 and less semi frequently.Check newest especially at weird hours. Somebody just trying to get rid off it will probably show up randomly

Finally getting the Waaaagh going lads
>>97159885I think the long game plan is that all the old models are getting replaced eventually. Chaos is probably the priority number 1 because they are the most important faction for the narrative of the setting but after that they are probably going to slowly redo everything. I'm also not sure if the legacy factions will ship with their old models or if they'll just come out the gates with an entirely new line of plastic models.
>>97159838That's fair. Maybe they want to show different skill levels to attract the normies being chased away by the painting side of the hobby? Or they're just being stupid again.>>97159945But dat's not a right propa lad, 'e's grey!

>>97159951I assume a lot of stuff will be allowed to carry on for a good while with only the mediocre sculpts even by the standards of the time being short timers or potentially not coming back in favor of new designs. I’ll use Lizardmen as an example Slann, the dinosaurs, and skinks are all fine The heroes are probably a coin flip Kroxigors probably come back as metals and left alone for a second wave update Saurus and especially their cold ones are bad enough they would probably come back redesigned
>>97160009I'd be perfectly fine with that if they get rid of the trim. I can't stand trims, CSM look like shit because of it, and half the AoS chaos range does as well
>>97160036They don't even have to redesign Saurus, just repose the AoS ones so they rank better. And replace those shields

To answer your question, the AoS chosen. They rank well on TOW base sizes. As other anons have pointed out the kit is pricey but for their comparatively high cost in points it feels a little less bad. I also use the AoS chaos knights. >>97158076Well GW has an extremely stylised sculpting style now that all their sweatshop sculptors use so everything is generic and melts together. Compare the new dogshit Bretonnians, bad body proportions and the armor is just bargain bin fantasy novel cover slop. We no longer have history enthusiasts and reenactors which a deep knowledge of human arms and armor, instead we have nerds that grew up with video games and have never even touched a sword, helmet or cuirass. Notice for example that all fantasy minis have cloth trim on maile, they can't sculpt mail properly in cad. The Bretonnian foot knights are fucking disgusting and I genuinely dislike anyone that owns them.
>>97160786So true!I am reminded of the Perry brothers talking about sculpting different dogs of war mercenaries and how their experience with re-enacting allowed them to better understand the poses pikemen would have while marching or in combat.
>>97160786>>97160837I'm glad I'm mainly into the human factions that are very easily proxied because of this. Even heroes are relatively easy to get - I'm sure I can find a damsel on a horse somewhere, for example.
