Having said that peasants are still very fragile and need to be handled with care. Saving everyone is impossible, and natural selection is also part of evolution, but many humans try to go against nature in many ways and need to be stopped, regardless of what social class they are from. Animals are easier to uplift than humans.To treat people normally it's neessary to pretend to be normal as well, otherwise it's the commoners that feel threatened by interacting with a young master. Because he entered that path, he's not a normal commoner anymore, but his reason for that is the will to make the world a bit better for the commoners, who can't defend themselves. He can't even imagine living forever. If he doesn't get killed in action, then he'll likely retire one day and try to live out the rest of his life as a normal human. The meals were delivered as promised. Work wasn't very exciting, but he also didn't sense corruption in the army, which would make him desert. The outpost getting raided and slaughtered was a complication of course, but that's not exactly Xun's fault.

Sometimes in the genre it's something that can be tested with magical items or special techniques, other times it's something that can only be inferred indirectly by feats. For example, in xianxia intelligence and perception are usually related to the soul, so it might be possible to test someone's 'soul energy' to determine their intellectual talents. Similarly, skill and body might have their own testing methods relating to their Qi pathways and Bones.Or if it's the latter, then talents would be tested by feats in some consistent and organized matter, ideally while they're young and haven't started practicing any crazy techniques yet. So body talent would be tested by basic physicals like sprinting speed and carrying weight. Intelligence from some kind of IQ testing. Reaction speed tests for perception. Skill would be the tricky one, but maybe the clan has some kind of tester Qi technique where you emit light and the more you master it the light shifts to different colors.Either way, Xianxia society is pretty obsessed with the idea of talent, so it's safe to assume they have at least some idea of how to assess it. As for how aware they are of other people's stats, that's a case by case basis. How famous they are, how open they and their family are with personal info, etc. You probably can't just look at someone and tell their talents even with high perception, not unless there's an extremely wide power gap. Most of the time it comes down to being told about it... (which again, Xianxia society is obsessed with, so it's not unreasonable to have a published stat book bragging about how talented everyone is.)

As for power, Spirit Beasts are generally weaker than cultivators, but even the weakest Spirit Beast demolishes a non-cultivator, and the strongest ones are at minimum late-pure realm. Spirit beasts can be just as powerful, and sometimes more powerful than cultivators in the same realm even when including geniuses who fight above their realm, and in terms of lifespan they usually mog humans with high consistency unless it's an insect or something. Spirit beasts with ten or more times the lifespan as a cultivator aren't at all rare.Mainly their issue is lack of potential. Most have their realm decided by birth and attained at adulthood with no way to go further without outside interference or extreme good fortune. A beast that grows up to be at Pure Realm is gonna stay there even if they live a thousand years. But that also means that some spirit beasts can just eat and sleep all day and grow to become as strong or stronger than our clan ancestors. Sometimes a particularly smart spirit beast figures out or is taught how to cultivate though, in which case all bets are off.
