>What is /awg/?
A thread to talk about minis and games which fall between the cracks, or peoples' homebrew wargames.
The >>>/tg/hwg thread doesn't entertain fantasy (for good reason) and the other threads are locked to more specific games.
This thread isn't tied to a game, a publisher, or a genre, let's just talk about fun wargames. Any scale, any company, any miniatures.

>Examples of games that qualify.
A Song of Ice and Fire, Argatoria, Batman Miniature Game, Carnevale, Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings,
Deadzone, Dragon Rampant, Dropfleet and Dropzone Commander, Freebooter's Fate, Frostgrave, Gaslands, HeroClix,
Kings of War, Maelstrom's Edge, Malifaux, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Masters of the Universe: Battleground, Moonstone,
Oathmark, OnePageRules, Open Combat, RelicBlade, Rumbleslam, SAGA, StarCraft, Stargrave, Sludge, Urban War, Void,
Warcaster, Warmachine, Xenos Rampant, Xenotactics...
...and anything else that doesn't necessarily have a dedicated thread.

>Examples of companies providing rules and/or miniatures for alternative wargames.
Archon Studio, Atomic Mass Games, Black Site Studios, CMON, Goblin King Games, Mantic, North Star Military Figures,
OnePageRules, Osprey, Para Bellum, Seb Games, Spellcrow, TTCombat, Victrix, Wargames Atlantic, Warlord Games...
...and many other publishers.

>£20

Is he actually joking

I remember when they went £5 to £7 then like £10.50 seemed too far. In fact he put them up to £15 then back down to £10 "on offer" when people had obviously complained a bit.

£20 is nuts. I mean with these it's more a question of if you can be bothered painting 50 of them than the cheap price, but still

He put the Space Rangers from £2.50 to £5 too. You could get a Stargrave sprue of 5 for that price.

Wrote this in another place. Basically it's the accidental commercialisation of the 28 movement by the kind of retards that watch lore videos on YouTube

Trench Crusade is too popular for the good of the wider scene. It should have remained another 28mag zine. It was originally just Mike Franchina's unconnected grimdark artworks and Tuomas made some skirmish rules for it (which don't really match up with the mass trench warfare of the setting)

It just hit the zeitgeist at the right time. Between the instagrammable art, the generally left-wing indie wargames/28 scene having a buzz, and then the right-wing "Deus Vult" types who make 40k outrage videos and their thralls got their hooks into the aesthetics of it.

And then you get your whales spending hundreds on yet another kickstarter they will never paint. It's grown into a beast it was never meant to be really, I can't blame Mike and Tuomas for running with it.

And now, with the abandonment of any future STL releases for hard plastic only, you're seeing the commodification of the indie "grimdark 28" movement.

Look at those Mormons who paid Napoleon Dynamite to front their "The Grim & The Dark" film which is half him acting dismissively towards miniature wargaming, and half an advertisement for their wargame 1490 Doom which is seeking to inhabit this new space TC finds itself in.

I ignore it. Somehow, rules-wise it's even worse than Mordheim without the soul that makes you turn a blind eye on Mordheim's poorly designed rules and lack of balance.

I like some of the multipart STLs it has inspired. But I've no interest in playing the game and the fluff seems entirely based on vibes and aesthetics, which is fine and as far as I can tell, the intention of the creator.

I am glad it's popular enough to have its own threads so we don't need to discuss it here.

I was interested in it until I realized it was another stillbirth based on concept art like the whole pic related thing. You can tell as well, as soon as you look at the setting you can see they've pic n mix'd straight from 40k. Nobody has anything to say about it mechanically or even the slightest mention of "having fun".
Wouldn't be surprised if its for money laundering

I saw north star posting on Facebook today that three more plastic trench crusade Prussian kits were announced for 2026. If I understood it correctly, they won't be produced by north star, which is a shame really as north star kits are great for conversions and kitbashing.

So everything else in the world is increasing in price but this man MUST produce his product are the same or lesser value than it was years ago?

That it makes so many of the faggots here upset tells me it has done something right.
The lack of any particular criticisms, >>97171976 being the sole one while still being vague, gives evidence that the only problem is that it is successful where other projects have not been; the easiest way to get this website to talk shit is if you are a success.

Aesthetic is fine, rules seem fine, setting could use some fleshing out but it is in it's infancy so that gets a pass in my book. I am disappointed that the TC team decided to rip a page out of GW's book and overprice their small quantity of plastic minis.

What I don't like is how a unique kind of obnoxiousness has seeped into the Trench Crusade community. It is like the hipster obnoxiousness that alternative wargamers like me get when we put ourselves higher than Warhammer wargamers because we play games that are more niche than Warhammer, but taken to an almost comical extreme.
A post I saw from another thread >>97128918 goes into more detail.

I'm glad anons into Trench Crusade made their own general and I hope it stays that way. Those guys have unfortunately been so buck broken by trolls that they see trolls when they aren't there or pointing out a genuine problem with the game.

You are right Anon. By this logic Warmachine Mk4 was a massively successful game under the Privateer Press management.

If he wants to actually sell any minis and stay competitive on the market? Yes, absolutely.
>>
>>97171468
I tried to buy the dwarfs for my 3yo son to paint because he loves painting miniatures, usually I have him paint green army men.

The problem?
$45 shipping on top of the £20 price. They are literally more costly than if I bought my son a pack of high quality Victrix or Perry Miniatures to paint.
I remember back when they sold 48 orcs for $8 like a decade ago.
>>
>>97172663
Nigger... Perry Miniatures are £20 a box for 40 troops, and they are highly customizable multiparty plastic kits with dozens of options and include informational pamphlets about the history and equipment of the unit, uniform color guides, and several dozen usable flags in every single box. In the last year Perry had to increase they box price from £20 to £22 and they apologized to their fans and said they hate having to do it and they never wanted to.

Meanwhile this faggot produces monopose low resolution toy army men tier "miniatures" and charges the exact same price as Perry Miniatures despite his product being something you'd find on AliExpress. He has gleefully raised his price 400% in the same amount of that Perry raised theirs 10%. The ONLY reason people even even bothered with EM4 was because of the super low cost, because if it wasn't for the low cost they aren't worth bothering with due to their abysmal quality
>>
>>97173101
Kinda, yeah. MK4 is doing a lot better under Steamforged, but PP was able to turn things around greatly with MK4 and stabilized themselves enough that someone thought the game was a good investment.

God. I think I got 50 of these in a nice box for like ten canadian dollars over two decades ago.
>>
>>97171468
Way too expensive for those minis, but then again.. they have been available for cheap for over a decade, and nobody itt should complain at all.. if you were interested in them even slightly, you had years to buy them and there was no excuse to not just buy them
>>
>>97174027
What if I didn't need them before but could use now?
>>
>>97173331
The thing is: both Perry and this guy need to run an injection molding machine. No clue how many of those em4 minis he can make with one injection shot, but essentially, making X of those minis costs exactly the same as making 1 spure from Perry/northstar/victrix etc.
The fact that the Perry etc minis are better does not magically make em4 injection molding cheaper.
They are certainly not worth that new price, but just because they are simple monopose minis, they are not necessarily cheaper to produce.
If the mold is just one mini, and each one is coming out of the machine individually, then it's even more expensive than minis in parts on a sprue
