>Su Dongpo was a talented and famous author and poet during the Song Dynasty. He had a friend who was a high accomplished monk named Master Fo Yin. One time, while he was in Huangzhou, Su Dongpo had a burst of inspiration and wrote the following poem:
>I bow to the Buddha,
>Whose light of wisdom,
>Shines on us all.
>Sitting on my golden lotus,
>Even the eight winds,
>Cannot move me at all.
>After writing it, Su Dongpo felt quite pleased. Not only did he praise the Buddha poetically, he also subtly hinted at his own transcendence, saying that the “eight winds” cannot move him. Su Dongpo then sealed the poem in an envelope and had a messenger send it to Master Foyin across the river at Jinshan Temple. He believed Master Foyin would surely praise his poem greatly.
>However, when Master Foyin read the poem, he wrote “Fart” at the bottom of it and sent it back with the messenger. When Su Dongpo saw the word “Fart,” he immediately became furious and shouted, “How outrageous!” He stormed off to Jinshan Temple to confront Master Foyin, but when he arrived, he found that Master Foyin had already ordered that no guests would be seen today. Su Dongpo, even angrier, ignored this and was about to push open the door when he saw a note on the door, which read:
>"The eight winds cannot move you, yet one fart blew you across the river?"

Magic, Other Magic(Blood Vampire), Physical (Vitality for Human form)

Fey because they are humanoid and don't have a weakness, mental compulsion or lose the human form, I like the conceptual magic the best, first concept will most likely be preservation but only my own. Vitality for the human form instead of the elf one to make getting blood for blood magic easier.

So, "One" was an idiot when he tried to stop Vtorusha. She simply wanted to talk to the gods, nothing violent. Oh, and the gods apparently don't know what's going on in their world, and can be persuaded to completely change their plans with a simple conversation.
Gonna persuade them to become my sex slaves real quick, I suppose.

On the other hand, the elder gods can quite easily convince you of anything, True Love is an option under their disposal and it can essentially turn your bisexual and this is something they offer you for a cheap price, they have far more potent and manipulative tools at their own disposal, they can deus ex machina you to convince you of almost anything.

See, I agree with this, but:
According to anons, Vtorusha explicitly built a giant mecha just for "talk." Presumably, she thought it would work.
"One" sacrificed his life trying to stop her. Presumably, he also thought it would work.
We're left with two options:
Vtorusha and "One" are idiots.
The goddesses are complete pushovers.
>>
>>97172928
sure... the mecha was just for talk...
>>
>>97172892
The Elder Gods are extremely limited in what they can do because the story is a collaborative effort. The story has to be consistent and they cannot contradict themselves and that also means that they cannot change the characters on a whim. The only thing True Love does is ensure a situation where the chosen companion gets feelings for you, nothing more. You are quite capable of screwing that up if you wish and it won't change their personalities in any way.
>>
>>97172943
Anons won't lie to me

>Anon, it's explicitely stated she dodn't want to strike them down, the mecha was to reach them

Even if she was fully pacifist and wouldn't use the mecha to force her will, which aligns with her ideas, the others could still doubt her intentions.
One saw his pupil with a goddam gundam wanting to "talk" with the gods so they make what she wants.
>>
Arguing can take many forms even in reality, let alone metaworld. Even if her intentions towards the Elder Gods were relatively peaceful, I don't think it was so in the case of True Jobbers. It was a three-way war, after all.
>>
>>97173025
She would keep her rebellion against the god-script, still wouldn't go full Charlotte "murder the gods, topple their thrones and commit genocide".
>>
>>97173038
>She would keep her rebellion against the god-script
Doing what? its either killing them or convincing them. Would she tie herself to a tree as a protest?
>>
>>97173038
And how will she do this without fighting the gods?
>>
>>97173047
Steal new letter from the godscript? Keep pushing for humans creating their own plots and crushing the goddesses? try to seal them off this reality? There are a ton of options she could take beside Charlotte's.
>>
>>97173071
>crushing the goddesses
>>97173038

Yeah, riiight...
>>
>>97173071
>Steal new letter from the godscript?
how?
>Keep pushing for humans creating their own plots and crushing the goddesses?
1. they can't.
2. the second part of this is violence.
>try to seal them off this reality?
how?

The only realistic choice its really killing one of them to gain the ability to write yourself, so you can fight them. And at the end giving up your power or don't use it.

But its all pointless because more humans will eventually become gods. So she is literally just trying to be dumb on purpose.
>>
>>97172967
yes, that is their main weakness their are purposefully restricting themselves for the sake of their story, a god without these self imposed restrictions could write any fanfiction none sense they want. Just breaking the restriction is a bigger hassle than destroying and resetting the entire world, as it would create feuds among the elder gods and that would be quite disastrous.
>>
>>97173047
from my understanding she would try to convince the elder gods of her view, that its better to give humans freedom than speeding up the mass ascension

>Phoenix
>Boons: 1 Magic (healing), 2 Physical (strength to all forms), 2 Extra Form (human of opposite sex)

I was tempted to take money or the house, but as a near immortal acquiring material possessions will become trivial. Healing magic should be able to be turned profitable easily. Not to Troon out, but living life cycles as a man or a woman will help keep eternity interesting. Also, while aging sucks, healing magic should remedy the worst aspects of that + the phoenix is the only being that has a shot at resurrection after death. Boost to strength in all 3 forms will help me keep from getting overpowered by anyone.
Besides the hair tel (and aging) a phoenix has no really weakness or banes

nta, and only tangentially related:
If I were a god in charge of a world that I wanted to be filled with interesting plots for everyone in it, then I would make agriculture hyperproductive so only a tiny share of humanity would have to toil the fields every day, not like the 90% (?) we had in our medieval europe. I'd set it at more like 20% or 30%. So this is what I expect of the world of OR under the auspices of elder gods.

>Bounty Strategies

>Oblivious Archmage Adventurer-Getting to him quickly is paramount. Once I do I am going to explain EXACTLY who I am and why he can’t be allowed to continue doing what he is doing. If he prefers, I will unsummon him at the central temple, but I actually think that he should let me kill him. His dangerous boon can safely be removed from his soul after death, and I literally work for “the afterlife janitor”. I can offer him a proper reincarnation or a good afterlife (I will run this by my boss beforehand of course). Ironically, I am the next event in his paradoxical luck (as having a mana nuke in your soul and a psycho skill stealer hunting him is his current plight). Imprint for Homunculus, his staff, and maybe even recruit his dwarven companion.

>Reckless Magitech Tinker-Same deal but I don’t have to kill him. Completing the optional objective should be much easier with his cooperation. His God’s Eye boon will make it even easier to convince him I am telling the truth. I offer him a sweat heart deal where he can stay in the village with his waifu, have his own stash of toys (I will warn him that his patron may have booby trapped them though) but prevent the spreading of the inventions. Boss explicitly said containment is acceptable. Loads of goodies. In particular it would be nice to have a set of those jump packs since only I can fly.

>Scheming Mary Sue Saintess-Not going to convince this one. Incapacitate, Kidnap, Unsummon (lots of details I won’t bore you guys with). Once done mopping up the simps should be pretty easy. Completing the optional objective with help from the “Villainess” will probably take a while but be worth it in the long run. Gratitude of the Queen, resurrection item, and amulet obtained.

It depends on what you want. The value is meant to imply how difficult the target is to take down.
The three that have three points aren't particularly hard to take down with preparation, specially with a build that has a counter. The Slaver hero can easily be tricked thanks to his lust and killed or just sniped from away, the Weapon shifter has glaring weaknesses and can be easily trapped and the Monster is just an HP sponge. They also come with cool items you can scavenge or just a lot of Exp from the monster.

this depends quite a bit on you actually being able to convince these people to give up what theyre doing despite one of them being an idiot and the other probably thinking he can trust his fake god of craft more than anyone else, also like i doubt its gonna be easy to deal with the saintess that way i mean unless you can prevent her from suiciding and maybe even if you do shes going to see this shit coming cause bullshit powers and her harem and whatnot are not going to be very helpful in the endeavor of getting her into a temple for an extended period of time, so your only options are to steal the items so they cant be used and then kill her or just kill her so many times her ability croaks and she stays dead, or you kill her enough times she just gives up and lets you unsummon her or smth, by the way with a build like yours or atleast with your classes and whatnot, i feel like youd be better off taking targets that are much more valuable than the tinker and archmage but maybe thats just me

Elemental soul (metal) (prepaid)

>Plans
I took the armored personnel carrier as i way to move quickly with my group from a place to another and potentially for support with some attached heavy artillery weapon, i also realized there is a combo with that and Elemental soul (metal) since the carrier its basically a moving box of metal it should let me attune my soul with the element while inside it, now that i think about it the majority of the time i should also be wearing the heavy armor from the blessed soul class, that also should help. I choose metal since it does not have a direct counter to it like ice is to fire.
If possible before the hunt starts i would like to gain a few more levels for me and my companions but even if i don't do it my plans won't change. Before enacting it each plan i will consult with my companion to see if they have other plans.

Wandering weapon shifter: (i took her first mainly to acquire warlock woe) i will try set up a pit hidden by leaves if she falls for it then i will let the wolf jump in the pit to try to distract her while i and the rest of the group reach her to attack her from above, binding her with sealing chains and throwing molotovs and explosives at her while trying my best to cover her with as much caustic liquid as possible, if warlock woe gets involved we will just avoid it or try to restrain the movement with sealing chain. If the trap does not work nothing much changes, we will just sneak attack.

Gleeful draconic evolver: i don't really have a well defined plan for this one, i guess that i will try to kill his companion lizard before he finds me and then attack him with my party giving priority to restraining him with my chains and damaging his wings and then attempt to just directly killing him with a javelin missile and Warlock woe support, if that does not work personally rushing to cut his head before he can evolve would be the next course of action.

Scheming mary sue saintess: i will might just support the rebellion, that might be the most convenient path to victory and probably the one that will help me level up more.
If possible i will deal with the harem only after dealing with her and preferably after they go on a rampage so i will have an excuse to put the Villainess to the throne.
>>

Neither of them are unreasonable people and I have a dedicated persuasion build.

For the Saintess I should have maybe elaborated on my plan a bit more. I am going to capture her in the secret chamber that she teleports to. Also her auto reload only activates on death which is why I am unsummoning her.

I probably could take harder contracts but why when I can do more contracts later and I minimize the risk now while I am starting out.

>Your mistake is thinking all the elder goddesses care about great "hero" story, JNPL likes simple SoL too.
No I agree with that, but if a historical realistic share of people are farmers then the world is too homogenous for optimal storytelling. I'm not saying the rest should be heroes, I'm saying in the elder gods' place I'd want high diversity of jobs and various other features in people's lives, so it wouldn't be nearly the same SoL story told a large number of times, it would be more varied SoL stories.

What do people think of a waifu being tied to your power? You get your power, you knows its capabilities and sub-abilities, but it also comes with an Avatar that has its own physical body to use when you are not using the power. The avatar basically serve as their own character and a waifu tied to your life, but has their own goal while working alongside you.

Additionally if you get smoked, the waifu/power dies too.

I'd go after the Oblivious Archmage, too. But I don't want to kill him - I want to recruit him. Dude wants to be a hero? I've got a whole list of f'ed up isekais to point him at. Just have to structure the pitch so that it sounds like a quest line from D&D/manga/epic fantasy. You know, material he's familiar with, providing a framework he's comfortable in. And while he's helping, lay the groundwork to get him to go have his Mana Abyss boon mapped out.

(Gonna get my Gandalf groove on.)

A couple of the other targets might be recruitable. I could see the Body Thief having fun tormenting the Mary Sue Saintess, if you make it worth his while. And the Fallen Slave Hero still thinks of himself as a hero. He just needs to be pointed in a different direction, away from the Boss.

The Magitech Tinker, on the other hand? He looks recruitable, but the homunculus companion makes me think the Tinker's fallen farther than the narrator realizes.

That would be in keeping with the general vibe of the Dark gifts, but I bet there are workarounds. ScottishAnon repeatedly said that players can gain more powers after the cyoa ends.

So there are probably ways to purge those flaws. If you look at the Maw, for example, it constantly vomits up trash-tier minions. Something equivalent might be an option for some dark disciples.

Is there a way to send him to some specific universe to have his boon detonate in? My build definitely reveals me to be a bit of a soft touch I suppose because I actually want to help him and Tinker.

Yea Tinker could potentially be more evil than he appears and I should prepare for that possibility. You can tell the companion section was written later because it is somewhat inconsistent with other parts of the CYOA, like the Villainess entry saying the Saintess has precognition, while the Saintess description just says she has encyclopedic knowledge of the video game paths (i.e meta knowledge, which is a huge difference).
>>
>>97174636
Literally talking, wich is her canon plan.

What do you anons think about taking Monster Alignment to copy the gleeful draconic evolver's boon and then send my regards to have your own evil playthrough?

Well, what she did to True Jobbers is effectively a form of genocide.

His evolution ability is not a monster ability but a divine boon and those cannot be copied normally. That said you could probably just eat him and then hound your boss and the nature god for the boon.
>>
>>97175039
I don't know if (you) could copy the evolution bit. The Murderous Skill-Stealing Minmaxer can't take divine boons, and his build is all about stealing abilities. With a less optimized build . . .well, I woulfn't count on (you) being able to grab the Evolution boon.

You could probably grab the abilities the Gleeful Draconic Evolver's current evolution has, though, as those are monster racial abilities. Or if you suck up to the Nature or Thief gods, they might be able to hook you up with something similar.

So what's the story behind MCYOAG and CYOAG and Jumpchain and what makes their CYOAs any different from each other?
>>
>>97175175
/mcyoag/ assumes the players are all in the same world and writes about how they would interact. Jumpchain is a gigantic spin-off that's basically about playing as one character going through multiple worlds instead of playing multiple cyoas.
>>
>>97175126
Admittedly it is sort of true since I am in part doing it to have synergy with an Angelic race
>>
>>97175126
that sounds more like a warlock than a paladin but eh, i guess some people dont see the glory of being a holy warrior that can wipe the floor with entire circles of hell kek
>>
>>97175175
>>97175187
Big difference is also anons here are more likely to self insert and make the "best" for themselves and MCYOA anons are more likely to roleplay and even be intentionally flawed.
>>
>>97175134
Interesting. With your desire to be an angel, I'd have thought [Smite] would have been a big selling point for the paladin class. Instead, you're going for a charismatic "knight in shining (black) armor" build.
>>
>>97175195
A holy warrior in the service of a skeletal death God. It's metal as hell and if boons weren't at such a premium I would take thematic reinforcement as I got a serious angel of death vibe I want to embody.
>>
>>97175226
Well I don't want to be weak by any means and Smite is awesome in any case. I know I won't be able to cheese every confrontation but I always liked being diplomatic in games and getting the "good ending".
>>
>>97175175
>So what's the story behind MCYOAG and CYOAG and Jumpchain and what makes their CYOAs any different from each other
The /cyoag thread is the original.

Jumpchain is a spinoff loosely inspired by the idea of planeswalking. Players start in one CYOA/jumpchain world, and move that build through several additional CYOAs, accumulating powers in each. Power creep is often an issue, as a jumpchain build can end up quite powerful after a while. They've been split off long enough to have their own catalog of jumpchain-optimized cyoas.

/mcyoag only spun off about two-three years ago. At the time, we had a bunch of people who wanted their builds to all be in the same version of the world, and they wanted to do this for several cyoas at the same time, including a Harry Potter one. Having multiple "shared" worlds got messy, so they spun off into their own thread. Less chance of them missing a post about a shared world they cared about, while people who weren't interested didn't have to wade through their discussions.

/cyoag and /mcyoag generally have the same library of cyoas
>>
>>97175175
>>97175293
Jumpchain spunoff for the exact same reason Power Armor, Magical Realm, Stardust, Conduit, Accidental Magical Girl, Tower Girls to a certain extent (there was also a meltdown over furries with that one,) and a few others split off: The author, Quicksilver in this case, made a really popular CYOA (about Pokemon, though he made one about Infamous too) Conversation over this CYOA was very popular, and there was even interest in fan expansions. This made people who hate it have a shitfit and scream and stomp until the popular CYOA they didn't like was chased off. Jumpchain is only different from all these others in that its format allowed the massive explosion of fancontent to the point where jumps became an entire sub-genre of CYOAs, and this has made it very, very enduring.

Just read through Isekai Bounty Hunter. It's good but not an end-all be-all CYOA like you faggots wanted me to believe.
>>
>>97173912
Which of the targets in Isekai Bounty Hunter do you think is the most dangerous to the world? Personally, I'm torn between the Mary Sue Saintess and the Mind-controlling Eldritch Witch. Both control vast armies of followers who will amplify their stupid/evil decisions a thousand fold, and zero track record of being responsible.

And what (plausible) class would you like to unlock?
>>
>>97173912
I'm making a necromancer build with animated armor and the dark knight overlord (who I plan to use as bait for the slaver hero to raise him as a death knight after he dies) to hard counter the reality-warping witch because nothing levels necromancer class harder than a god of death-sanctioned genocide of an entire country in pursuit of genre purity and nothing is more resistant to mind control than a mindless undead servant. But I'm too sleepy to finalize it today.
>>
>>97175416
I agree with you that Witch is likely the most dangerous threat to the world itself.

What (plausible) class would you like to unlock?
Of the ones listed that aren't obviously cheats (looking at you weeabo), I would say the Charming Hero class that that slaver has is cool, more realistically the Inquisitor Class and Sentinel Class from the companions look good.
>>
>>97175416
the most dangerous to the world are always the ones who even after death could leave permanent and far reaching consequences therefore:

>magitech tinkerer
his inventions could be reverse engineered and its blueprints spread, once the knowledge is out there would be no way to remove it, you could expect grand changes to warfare and economies

>fleshcrafter demonlord
if any of his abominations can reproduce and some of them are let out of the pocket dimension then you can expect entire ecosystems to collapse and races to go extinct
>>
>>97175416
I think Planeswalker is a bigger menace than Saintess imo
>>
>>97175503
I will disagree with Tinker since the Pantheon could do a Dark Ages reset if they needed to. It drives home the plausibility of the scenario of God's using reincarnators to inconvenience other Gods though.
>>
>>97175416
Plainswalker (possibly) could be the biggest threat because:
1. Planeswalking mechanic is not explained in detail, could be just willing herself to teleport to some other world in 1 second
2. Abilities are non-mana reliant, probably can't just anti-magic her planeswalking away
3. Is said to have some other hidden abilities which could be equally unpleasant
4. Immortality has no faults like the witch's; may be possible to bonk on the head and keep unconscious but who knows? Maybe her planeswalking activates automatically in that situation or whatnot
5. Will try to legalize gay marriage which will doom the sinful world to hell faster than the demon lord
6. Can return in 9999 years to try again if not stopped (see immortality)
>>
>>97175539
>world is fucked up so badly they need to reset the entire thing
yeah I still think it's a very bad outcome, gods are pretty much destroying the current world for a copy of the past

Perhaps, but I bet there's a class with memory wiping abilities. The Immortal Mind-controlling Witch has Thrall-master, a mind-controlling class, and the homunculus has a memory/skill-duplicating power. So psychic type powers aren't unknown here.

Without that? You definitly have a point.

Democracy is fun...until your side is on the losing end of election day. And it takes a lot of time and social investment to stabilize one. I give it two-three years until the Planeswalker has to resort to terror tactics and/or declare herself dictator. Either approach gives the old order a good shot at a nostalgia-fueled resurgence. And then she'll be just an odd footnote in history, like Savonarola in Italy

No it didn't you stupid dipshit. Modern politics is mainly derived from World War 1 and its immediate fallout. If we're being honest modern politics to this day is mainly defined by WW2 and the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Union.

The influence of the French Revolution died by the time of the July Monarchy. The Revolution of the 1840s which threatend to topple monarchies and cucked several of them has more influence than the French who not only regressed, but the Second French Empire was a pitiful managed autocratic state.

I speedread Entropist and it was years ago, I think it was: starting Son's power is purely the waifu, intemediate Son's power is mostly planeswalking + minion transformation, advanced Son's power is from continuously grinding up numeric multipliers. Is that about right?

>>
>>97175848

Isn't she (the Planeswalker) the central authority?
>>
>>97175851
I don't know how can you describe a sons power in different phases while being generic about it. Only one power had numeric multipliers so not really.

Son's powers in general are about infinitely scalling power based on practice, combat experience and study being paired with more easy powers that help the scalling powers. Like a Power Word build searching to have a lot of different thematic powers to make them stronger with power word and mix them, while a physical build wants to stack multipliers and a magic build wants to increase their magic fields.

Overall the waifu is the strongest being in the group until the Son gets really advanced. Planeswalking is an early thing to g oto other places and minion transformation its an early thing to start training not from 0 and get talent in what makes the minion strong.

The strongest point of advanced sons tend to be versatility, being hard to kill permanently and practically infinite energy reserves in the form of trillions of souls.

I went with Belle and The Village but B.B. and Olathoe were close seconds. I love B.B.'s back story but have a general dislike of the 'Sherlocke Holmesian' style detective. i think the real sticking point about sons is that not only are each of them capable of growing outside of the bounds of this worlds system allowing them to eventually just punch gods to death, but if you do successfully manage to kill one, all you do is piss off all the rest of them who are very likely to send their own forces to come and wreck house, including the older sons who are already capable of smashing the planet to bits and slaughtering this worlds gods single handedly, and theyd take special interest in you the person who actually did the deed

pretty sure they know about the birth of a son from the moment it happens cause like theyre all connected through the father or smth like that, iirc thats also why youre able to know all these things about what a son is and about your own powers and how to use them etc etc, oh and is also why youre able to make pacts with some of the older sons to get more power in exchange for some oaths to be sworn by yourself, so yeah, theyre well aware of you from the moment youre born, and as such theyll also know just as well when you die

oh also from my understanding of things essentially the prevailing belief among sons is that the reason for all the soul burning is to deal with souls that are getting to old and therefor end up doing nothing but suffer from like defects or smth i think so alot of them view themselves as the good guys keeping the world in order as existences most powerful janitors, kinda, also apparently all the souls you burn go directly to the father or smth and arent just annihilated in entirety, or atleast i think thats the case, its been a bit

its very different the father info dumping you all the changes you are experimenting and having
a notifcation of any son being born and dying.

> oh and is also why youre able to make pacts with some of the older sons to get more power in exchange for some oaths to be sworn by yourself

the description of the oathgivers in fact show it doesn't work like that
>Luckily for you 4 ancient sons noticed your birth and have offered their assistance through the Father
This implies the 4 ancient sons noticing your birth was luck and they offering their help through the Father implies its not the opposite, the Father offering his help through alerting sons.

>oh also from my understanding of things essentially the prevailing belief among sons is that the reason for all the soul burning is to deal with souls that are getting to old and therefor end up doing nothing but suffer from like defects or smth

Some of them want to end existence, others target evil souls to erase them and others just want power. Souls do not degrade unless subjected to absurb amounts of pain caused by very very prolongued torture.

Dwarves aren't interesting as themselves, they're interesting for what surrounds them. Big ruins, big tunnels, artifacts that have big benefits to wielding. The reason they're on the decline in 90% of settings is because they're more interesting for what they're leaving behind.

Tolkien invented the modern dwarf as a derivative of the Germanic dwarf, which was a later invention in Germanic religion occurring at the time of Christianization and may have been influenced by this. This dwarf was effectively a combination of various 'little/hidden people' folklore and the older Svart, Myrk, or Dokk (Black or Dark) Alfar (Elves.) The Dark Elves had the roughly the same behavior as the modern dwarf, but were as beautiful as the Light Elves save for their black or brown skin, said to be stained with soot or tanned by the flames of the forge. Notably, while Tolkien used the later dwarf concept directly, he also took the earlier Dark Elf concept and, while not using that term for it (Dark Elves exist in Tolkien, but refer specifically to certain elves who reject the light) spun it off to create the Noldor race of the Eldar. These elves are big on forging, gems, and wealth as well, and their most famous city was underground. He had the Noldor and Dwarves be good friends for their similarities until an incident of greed over the jewels and a stiffed payment.

>Would using a genie wish to unlock all the classes be smart?
Probably not. The rules of the setting limit people to one hundred levels, max, at which point they're a demigod. So at most, you could get a hundred classes.

And they'd all be stuck at level one. Supposedly, the class skills gained by levelling up get a lot better the higher (you) go, as (your) soul can hold more power. Wishing for everything caps (you) at rookie level in all of them.

Alternately, they'd all just blend into one jack-of-all-trades class, like the Minmaxer's universalist class.

Wishing to unlock one specific class might be worth it, though, if it's something exotic that (you) really, really want. And aren't sure how to unlock it the "normal" way.
