>>97172787Rip castraferrums. They look silly with no femurs, and they'll look silly with femurs as well. They got half legs
>>97173020You take that back. Castraferrums are PEAK, can't improve upon perfection.
>>97173020
>>97173085The hull is peak. I love that look. But from the waist down... >>97173148 yeah. It's not even bad, really. But everything else IS better...which makes it bad by comparison.I want castraferrums to be relevant, especially rules wise :(
>TQLegion Mastodon, without question. I like the thought of My Guys using it as a mobile base.
>>97173312I'm a bit of a mobile base fan myself
>>97173228Man what are you crying about, castraferrum rules are great. Cheap yet durable firepower, it's almost criminal how low their point cost it. Especially one with two gravis plasma cannons is real nasty at the moment, will deal with any type of infantry for a mere 135 points. Genuinely don't understand why you don't see more people using them.
>>97173343Oh right, double gravis plasma cannon, I always forget about those. I may not believe in regular plasma guns but gravis plasma cannons look powerful enough. Are plasma deredeos still viable?>Genuinely don't understand why you don't see more people using them. They look silly chonky. Idk if they are still -1T and -1 invuln compared to Contemptors like they were last edition
What edition has the best rule set? What edition has the best mission set?
>>97172787Anyone got the link to the HH novels? The old mega a link I had is missing a few books of the books i intended on reading
>>97173367Dude what the fuck are you smoking, castraferrums have had a 5++ invulnerable just like contemptors for two editions straight now. They do have one lower toughness, but against most weapons that can kill dreadnoughts well it doesn't even make a difference. Gravis plasma cannons are most certainly powerful enough, but honestly most of the weapon options are pretty good. Even the gravis bolt cannon has 6-7 shots with 2 damage, and it's free.Plasma deredeos are still very much viable, large blast with 2 damage breaching 4+ hurts, especially with how accurate blasts are now People keep under-estimating the impact of that
>>97173228I, for one, can't wait for them to make Castrator dreadnoughts.
>>97173381The Titanicus open war cards are the best, can't play without them
>>97173343/hhg/ convinced itself plasma wasn't viable when plasma stopped being AP2 native
>>97173437Wew those are some scary weapon profiles, maybe it is right that the War Engine slot is so restricted. But I could swear the Castraferrum's atomantic shielding was inferior to the Contemptor's in 2.0. Then I think it turned Instant Death wounds into 3D instead of 1d3D like the Contemptor's, that must've been it. Glad that's no longer the case then idk
>Two editions later, people still fear the AP2 blast combat of 1.0.Weren't ruins 4+ cover save back then? Are you telling me marine players had AP2 rain on their heads and never once considered stepping into cover for a bit!Now it even blocks LoS. I think it's safe enough out there...I hope
>>97173593Nah I think the war-engine detachment could have been 2 slots, at least. But maybe it's restricted so GW can put a fancy dreadnought detachment in a tactica journal down the line or something, Mortificators already allow you to bring 3 contemptors in 1 detachment. With DA you can just include a dreadnought with every detachment, prime slots aplenty with all their special detachments.
>>97173508This looks dumb, for the same reason any attempt at extending the legs of a boxnaught doesn't work: the faceless coffin and slit body design only works with the squat ass no knees toddler body type, the proportions are all off if you extend them because now the illusion of the slit being the "head" is broken.
When did the Dark Mechanicum start using the Chaos Star?
>>97173618My 10 man plasma gun TSS buffed by Alpharius did not care one bit if something stood in cover or not, 20 wounds with AP 2 are still gonna kill most units in one volley. Not to mention the abundance of large blast weapons with AP 2 and ignores cover. Most of the time you didn't even get the chance to roll a single dice before putting all your infantry back in the suitcase.
>>97173593>I think it turned Instant Deathit did, but no more ID so everything is simplified on ++ savesas it stands, CF don't even have Explodes (X) so they're much better gunner positions when you're standing them next to something that cares about Explodes results
Making a start on saturnine, people weren’t kidding about how awful the terminators are to build Also fuck the asshole who decided to sculpt Aquila’s onto everything

>>97173437A TS pyrae deredeo sounds fun. Shoot people up and then burn them up in melee
>>97173618Just because it was supposed to be the most devastating conflict in human history since the Men of Iron war with terrible and forbidden weapons unleased and demigods striding the battlefields does NOT mean you can just delete ten guys with one attack.

>>97173636I do not understand what they wanted to achive with dreadnoughts in 3ed. Everyone loves them, everyone has multiples of them. So they nerf the contemptor, because it was supposably too good. They don't nerf the too good, they nerf all builds. melee/shoting all of them. Then they nerf the leviathans, I guess to promote the new dread. A bit meh, but I they want to sell model. But the new dread has bad rules. Then they nerf the doredeo, that was never a problem. And we somehow end up with the castaferrum as the best dread. Not because it is awesome, but because point for point you get the most attacks/shots with them. So you would think they would sell the good dreads for 3ed. They don't. Confusing to say the least.
>>97174849Dreadnoughts could be T5 A2 with a 3+ and it wouldn't matter. They're so awesome as a concept they would still be used.
>>97172787the more bitching i read about female custodians; the less i respect the ones bitching about it
>>97173815boy did you build the legion imperialis leviathan dread in 13 or so pieces ?or the 28mm thallax ?
Melta Blast Gun or Flashburn Shells on a Kratos? I like both the melta and the big gun aesthetically
>>97174919Melta kratos seems to be a signature now, but I prefer the Battlecannon aesthetically, as both the melta and volkite are comically undersized for the chassis
>>97174915>y did you build the legion imperialis leviathan dread in 13 or so piecesI will now buy these models
>>97174960The volkite is for sure undersized and the melta is getting there but I like how the melta looks. Might just build it with the battlecannon and just say I'm running the melta turret, but I'm not a fan of that desu
Btw, some store accidentally put up the siege assault for preorder 1 week early. Official price ~£129
>>97174960>>97174977All of the turret options are unbalanced so you actually want the smaller option because it's the least worst choice
>>97175017>so you actually want the smaller optionEhh, not a fan of how the volkite option looks
>>97175005The leviathan is the most attractive model there
>>97175019What a loser
>>97175026
>>97175005>ugly overpriced terminators with incomplete weapon loadouts that come 6 in a box instead of 10 in a box>useless melee dreadnought that will literally never get into melee in 3rd editionI do want 10 breachers but not paying $210 for them. I can just get shields from a recaster/printer for like $10-20.
>>97175022Each to their own. I completely get people's criticisms of the new cataphractii proportions, but being the deviant that I am, I like em for fixing the issue I had with the OG shoulders being detached from the torso and overpriced volkite. Breachers are also my kinda jam for UM Roman testudo vibes. I really dig the UM roman look with white tassels you get on Cata.
>>97172787>>TQI realised my dream and finally built and painted the fatass Mastadon just in time for it to be baller as fuck in 3.0
>>97175064I do somewhat chuckle every time I see posts of resin superheavies and other units only for geedubs to release em in plastic for way cheaper like a week later. Given the phasing out of resin FW vehicles, I wonder how quickly we'll see a plastic mastodon after the probably plastic glaive, falchion etc. Maybe a plastic stormhammer in the mix.
>>97175046The breacher helmet, shields, and bolters (i.e all the new bits) are great, it's just their presence on nu-scale that I won't abide.
>>97174960the melta is like 3 space marines long. It's the perfect size for warhammer-sized maps. A longer barrel would only make sense on a gun with 120" gun range (even though somehow battle cannon with antitank shell is only 24" range)Also, the cannon option on kratos looks retarded. It extends to the very back of the turret with a 1" gap. There's zero room for anyone to be loading the ammunition nor for an autoloader mechanism. And since the turret hangs half an inch backwards over thin air, you can't pretend there's a hole in the bottom rear of t he turret and ammo simply rises vertically from the hull to feed the gun (as the turret is too far back and that mechanism would be hanging in the air and also the loading hoist would need to rotate sideways 10-20 feet as the turret turns as it isn't near the center of the turret at all so it spins)So you must be a british no-guns non-tanker to appreciate the kratos battlecannon design.
Why would you attach a magos to an Autonata unit, the bemefits aren't worth getting pinned
>>97175064I kinda want a Mastodon for massive games so I can Partybus my Alone and Forgotten blackshields, but besides that I'll never play a game that large I also can't imagine painting that well. Big models don't really work with my scorched armor color scheme.
>>97175118Can you tell me why? My buddy is doing mech and can't figure out the tech magic bullshit
>>97175107Their "presence"? Care to elaborate?
>>97175133They were designed for the new models. They won't necessarily match up with the old models, therefore I do not desire them.
Saturnussy
>>97175115There is space for an autoloader. Look up the T114 prototype tank. Literally an offset autoloaded 105mm gun. And based on the layout of the Kratos and singular cupola (for the commander) it's even clearer it'd be autoloaded. You could feasibly have a carousel loader like in the T-72/80 series in the turret ring feeding rounds vertically into the battlecannon.
>>97175080>Mr.Giggles giggles because he sees a mastodon which GW will sell in plastic for $250>I bought the thing in resin for $136.50 from china which is cheaper than any plastic mastodon could ever be from GWGW doesn't make it hard at all.
>>97175122It lets you control objectives.
>>97175118>the bemefits aren't worth getting pinnedHuh? I thought it was the character what became unable to be pinned as he's attached to a unit (automata) that cannot be Pinned

>>97175181it's basically a point-blank drilling laser for melting through fortress walls so it can crash inside and blow its load in their defenseless innards.12" (6" melta) with just one shot, S10 Ap2 Dmg4 with 5" blast. That 5" blast means it's nearly impossible for it to miss a tank when it's driving 6" away from them to try to melta them for 8 wounds. But because it's so huge and slow and only dangerous to 6", it's impossible to use it as a battle tank, it's only there to be a transport who just so happens to obliterate landraiders sitting on the objective it's deploying to.

>>97175241No superheavy ever makes its points back
>>97175239Cortex controlers were a better way of dealing with this, even if it meant the marines were better at fielding robots that the mecanicum
>>97175241the problem with the whole "shoot your way to an objective" strat is it doesnt work in HH3.Superheavy doesn't allow the 10" thing to move through walls, only light grass.Shooting happens after the movement phase, so your 1000 point mastodon deathstar is unable to drive through any enemy vehicles at all. That means for just 45 points for 2 infiltrating tarrantula turrets, he can block the 2 roads in front of your mastodon so you must stop moving for the entire turn, then shoot them, then he can drive an empty 60 point rhino in front of your mastodon on his turn, you cannot move anywhere on turn 2 and aren't contesting any objective, he shoots the rhino, then turn 3 he drives another empty rhino in front of your mastodon. Maybe, maaaaybe turn 4 you can get it moving slightly. Oh, the game ends in 4 turns.
>>97175270this is handled so much better in the game Infinity. Each activation of a unit has 2 parts. So you can do Move-Move, or Move-Shoot, or Shoot-Move.It'd allow something like a mastodon to vaporize the rhino in front of it first, then move 10" forwards afterwards. Warhammer, having shit rules, doesn't have this, so it's trivial to cockblock a transport over and over again with disposable 20-50 point roadblock units.
>>97175005Wait, are there only three body sculpts for the terminators?
>>97174883That is not my expiriance with any table top game. If it is yours, then I can only congratulate you.
>>97175270And lets not forget that with all the points in the masto+deathstar, the person also doesn't have the points to push objectives. While his opponents does. So even if by turn 3 his opponent decided to let the masto player ignore core rules, charge through stuff etc they are still losing because of math and line 2.
>>97175283And the anwser to this would be deploying 4 tarantulas instead of a rhino and 2. each a separate vehicle. each has to be targete separatly. And again, no one says you can't take 6 or 8 or 10. I have seen 8 and 10 a lot lately.
>>97175323looks like six>>97175283Space Hulk plays that way, with AP to choose what you're going to doit's extremely limiting and doesn't work on an open tabletop (why nobody plays infinity)
>>97175341Funnily enough my local HH group is balancing the amount and type of line units we bring this edition vs dreads in 2.0.
Holy shit, just finished Ashes of the Imperium. What a display of complete idiocy, how the hell does ROBOUTE FUCKING GUILLIMAN get constantly, and reliably outwitted by a fucking Apothecary noone's ever heard of?And the cherry on the cake of pure shit of course, is that the only reason the UMs didn't just orbitally annihilate the Luna Citadel is to "preserve the Gene-looms" which the Traitors naturally destroyed before allowing them to fall into Loyalist hands again. The book is just an endless list of retarded strategic decisions and tactical blunders by the one Legion that supposedly avoids making those above all other Legions.I am thoroughly disappointed in this retarded book, there were a million ways to make the Sons of Horus and other traitors look decent by getting away from the Sol System, but making the UMs look completely incompetent and getting bogged down in a bargain bin "Iron Cage"Adding insult to injury, the Mary Sue Apothecary who slaughters a whole command squad wins a duel with a honor guard because "the Ultramarine didn't really want to be here"Chris Wraight must have been smoking some proper dogshit when writing this drivel.
>>97175391it works great on an open tabletop. People stopped buying infinity because metal prices went up 400% and they had to transition to shitty forgeworld resin and forgeworld prices while not having nostalgia-goggles of braindead 40k players willing to buy shitty overpriced resin in a gay setting. The rules themselves were a blast. The free reactions doesn't work on wide open table, they'd have to split reactions into paid-reactions and free-reactions and make paid-reactions like shooting a moving unit cost points like reaction points in horus heresy already do.
>>97175201>Horus HeresyNo
>>97175391also, there's zero reason why a game benefits from a wide open bowling ball tabletop. Neither horus heresy or 40k are playable without heavy terrain with their trash rules already. Have you not seen tournament layouts in the last 10 years?!

So like at a certain point, if you're making enough reserve rolls it's enough to depend on right? Thinking of having that outflank focused army be indeed Sons of Horus led by a terminator centurion, a master of signal, and a herald on bike, with the force having a core of 12 outriders with twin plasmas and shotguns, 5 outrider commands with twin plasma, carsoran axes, and combat shields, 20 veteran tacticals with volkite chargers, and 10 tartaros siege squads with plasma blasters in 4 dreadclaws from there I've got a few hundred points left over that for now I've got specced into a breacher squad and two tactical squads but is still flexible for now. 3 reserve rolls on 2+ and 4 on a 3+ are probably reliable enough right?

Maybe a Mastodon can shoot 5 of them at a time>Not only is Tank Shock gutted, but Ramming is literally goneBro what the fuck. You literally can never crash? >>97176081As much as I dislike fluffy things being removed, does anyone remember ramming doing anything in their matches? I don't, much as I would've liked to. I do miss things like the knight thunderstrike gauntlet YEETing tanks around though.
>>97176157Rhinos. They were like Chihuahuas; excessively obnoxious despite their fragility. I had them tank shock squads off objectives (it caused a Fall back on a failed Ld test), had the foe waste antitank to attack mere troops (keeping big guns away from actual tanks), and their Multi-melta made them impossible to actually ignore. Little box zooms 14" across a corner, then melta-ranges a Land Raider and blows it up.Tank shock also allowed outflankers to bypass models squatting on the Outflank marker. Though it didn't always work: Saw Dynat's S9 hammer stop a Rhino's tank shock dead. But it was cinematic. All of that is gone.I bet Night Lord players never told you, but Tank Shocks were perhaps the only way to have an enemy squad begin your shooting phase already falling back. People joke about bolters being useless until they all start wounding on 3+ a d the other side can't return fire.
>>97172787How likely is it that boxnaughts will get a new kit in heresy? They're not needed in 40k anymore, and they could bridge the gap between Contemptors and Saturnine suits.

>>97175978They are pretty, but I'm not a huge cybernetica enjoyer. Vultarax and Domitars are pretty great, though. Plastic domitar when.
>>97176250The only thing that would ever make GW bring the boxnaut back was if players would pay a luxurious price for them OR if it'd pay off huge somehow in intellectual property.GW already charges the luxury price for all current dreads and the average customers wouldn't pay any extra for boxes, and there are 10,000,000+ cheap boxnauts out in the planet already, so GW re-releasing them would simply lose GW money. GW intentionally made NewDreadnought since there are 0 already owned saturnine dreads in the wild - so 100% of saturnines will have to be purchased (if not fakes)And GW already has the IP of the boxnaut so well-established that nobody is gonna steal it (and it's ugly enough nobody wants to steal it very badly)So, zero percent chance.

>>97175863generally when a game is nearing end of life, each print run is intentionally smaller (the company doesn't want to be stuck with a flop with 100,000 copies of dead weight nobody wants) so rarity skyrockets. It's common for all games... I'm bummed because the game of thrones LCG basically printed 1% as many of the final dragons expansion as the first 6-7 expansions (since they already knew the game was ending internally), which made it entirely impossible to get as there were so many more total players than available copies.I've seen copies of that final rare expansion selling for like $200 while an entire collection of all 8 expansions and 3 core sets and all this other stuff goes for $300. Anyone not retarded with money just ends up skipping the rare parts when this happens (just stick to PDFs, prints or proxies stand-ins instead)>>97176404brayarth ashmantle is already in the Legacies so he's never getting a journal.
>>97176404the boxnaut model is used as Cassian Dracos in 30k. Brayarth Ashmantle is a warhammer 40,000 person. "755.M41 got fucked by genestealers while using a thunderhammer to hold them off, placed into a dreadnought built by vulkan", so yeah... warhammer41k characters don't mean new 30k kits.
>>97176250In the long run it's extremely likely Not any time soon though, maybe late 4th edition at the earliest
>>97173020THey still exist

>>97175005NU-terminators look so trash
>>97176561My heart will go on like Celine Dion said
>>97176250This gets me wondering what they might come up with for a 4th Edition box, whether it's still Heresy and/or also Scouring. There isn't really as much left for resin to plastic which is mostly recon/fast attack/characters left wanting at this point, but unless they're inventing new shit like with 3rd's Saturnine Dread and Araknae, Castraferrums are also right there and the old Drop Pods were repackaged for Heresy when 40k SM replaced theirs, so maybe I could see boxnaughts going the same way and taken out of Legacies.
>>97176439oh yeah, wrong made up name>>97176426>destroyers are never getting a journal
>>97172787What's that OP pic from specifically? I love these kinds of images.
>>97176852probably from one of the imperial armor books, probably vol 2 if I had to guess
>>97176829destroyers might purely because they're an entire class of troopers, so they can do new things and new kits for sale, not merely a new paintjob on an old guyCassian dracos has zero reason to ever get a journal. If anything, what Salamanders needs are a non-zero amount of actual salamanders characters. They're missing every single non-primarch.Forgefather T'kell from the legions card game is the first salamander forgefather and Artellus Numeon the captain of the firedrakes and 1st company and equerry to Vulkan has no fucking right to be missing from the game.
