Rus Vikings are a bit of an oxymoron if I recall correctly. The term 'Rus' was initially used in a similar way as the 'viking'.

the Rus were a swedish tribe who went viking along the volga river and eventually established themselves there as the ruling class of the slavs, who bear their name today as a result, the writings of ibn fadlan (iirc, might be butchering the name atm) describe a group of these Rus vikingr, which the opening scenes of The 13th Warrior are based upon.

I don't think anywhere but here is going to care about what is essentially a random model from the 80s.
It's only notable because of the Johnny meme, and that meme has become utterly irrelevant and unknown anywhere but here.

AK Interactive has new Acrylic washes in 18ml Dropper bottles on their webstore now. Their deep shade acrylic washes are probably going to get discontinued soon for anyone that uses them and likes them.
Has anybody here used them and is able to comment on their quality?
How are they compared to ArmyPainter washes?

I don't want to accidentally make mustard gas using oils and enamels so I stick with nontoxic acrylic paints.

And if you're here because you want to kill time waiting for an acrylic wash to dry you can also read the book I wrote in the last thread only to notice that this thread was made after posting it.

Hey folks,

I just received a wonderful Secret Santa gift from a friend. When I initially got the box I realized it was from the Monster Hunter World board game, but only an expansion to it. I don't have the base game, but I opened it up to discover a beyond massive sculpt of Kushala Daora for me to paint. You can see what it looks like next to a Terminator I'm working on.

So Kushala Daora's whole design gimmick is that it's covered in metal scales (and it's notorious for knocking hunters down with gusts of wind but that's a whole other thing) which means I have the opportunity to really explore playing with metallic shading. I've worked on numerous minis with metallics, but never had said metallics be nearly the entire color scheme.

You can also see in the attached image what it looks like in-game and how others online have tackled the project. I'm personally thinking of airbrushing a base lof light and dark silver before applying colored washes and then drybrushing vibrancy back up with levels of silver/copper.

However, as this is such a large hunk of plastic and I dread approaching it wrong, I was curious if anyone else here has some solid ideas for how they would go about applying the different levels of metallic tones. Mind you I will also be doing a custom, snow-themed base, so don't think it's going to be sitting on the single chunk of plastic. This will most likely be a project I work on on-and-off over the course of a few months.
>>
>>97186439
if you want slightly different colors of metal, you can try mixing inks into the paint, or airbrushing it over metal.
>>

>>
>>97186439
well I would definitely use an airbrush. I would also try to remove the arms before painting. I still think trying to highlight metal looks like shit so I would try to go from light to dark starting with something like aircraft aluminum or silver and going to dark aluminum or steel and then hitting it with an oil wash.
>>
>>97186617
Order more then?
>>
>>97186439
Yoo nice one. I have a buddy that got that same board game and we were both astonished at the size of the kushala.
He hasn't painted it yet but the approach was going to be the same. Brush evrything dark silver metalic, spot highlight with different metallics, wash and drybrush. Large organic pieces can be surprisinigly leniant especially with an airbrush. Have confidence and let the airbrush go brrrr. He painted his rathalos already I'd share a pic if I had one on hand but it also turned out pretty good for surprisingly easy effort.

>if that is true /wip/ is singlehandedly driving up eBay prices
That's *mostly* true.

Johnny is unusual in that he was only available in blisters or individually via mail order - so he's not "limited edition" or "unreleased" - but because he's absent from the Blue Catalogue circa 1990, completionist collectors might not have ever known they were missing him until he was no longer available from Citadel. I suspect this rarity is also at least partly responsible for the prices.

By contrast, Brother Sheer also only appears in mail order inserts and White Dwarf adverts. However, he was one of the models you got duplicates of if you bought a Rogue Trader-era Tactical Squad. Consequently, while he's not in the Blue Catalogue either, he is nonetheless fairly ubiquitous.

Dearest Californianon,

Your package has been retrieved from the lockbox one street over (it has a remarkably similar name and this neighbor often gets my deliveries). Lotann is exactly the model I hoped to add to my budding Idoneth Deepkin army. I'm sure the candle smells just like the ocean, a scent foreign and unknown to the Sonoran desert. I appreciate the dice and look forward to getting them into the table with my models. I love swedish fish, once upon a time I used them in a fake proposal to my now wife (got down on one knee and pulled out "some red herrings" (I did pop the question later that night)). The chocolate did not survive a Mesa weekend in a mailbox, even in winter, and is now reconstituting in my freezer (not the first time this has happened, don't worry). I always need new hobby supplies as I refuse to buy myself new stuff even when it wears out. Thank you again for your thoughtful gift and Merry Christmas.

If you want to get the army table ready quickly, just do base colours (tallarn flesh or cadian flesh for skin) and then an Amry Painter strong tone wash for everything but the skin and soft tone for skin.
